Bonhoga Gallery Shetland Arts presents Variorum by Barbara & Wilma Cluness Barbara & Wilma Cluness have created an eclectic mix of artwork in recycled & new materials. Exhibition Saturday 21 Sept to Sunday 3 Nov Pick up full 2013 Exhibition Programme from Bonhoga Gallery & Mareel.

At the Café Bar in Mareel we pride ourselves on using fresh, locally sourced ingredients to create delicious, rustic dishes and refreshments - the perfect accompaniment to a day out at Mareel.

The Garrison Theatre

Shetland Accordion & Fiddle Club presents Accordion & Fiddle Festival Final Concert Sunday 13 October

Shetland Arts Development Agency manages Mareel, the Garrison Theatre & Bonhoga Gallery. We also develop and promote a year round programme of film, music, theatre, literature, visual arts & dance events. We do this because we want to see Shetland celebrated as a place where inspiration & innovation are valued; where people want to live, work & study; and we want the full social & economic potential of the islands to be achieved.

Singers & Songwriters Night Sunday 20 October from 7pm

Monthly Singers & Songwriters Night with performances from great local acts, plus an open mic session. Performances take place in the Main Auditorium via Café Bar entrance.

Oxjam Music Quiz Wednesday 9 October, from 7pm

Oxjam presents a general knowledge music quiz, with fabulous prizes to be won! Max team size: 6 people. Quiz takes place in the Main Auditorium via Café Bar entrance. *£3 per person to enter, must be prebooked via Shetland Box Office. Plus a raffle at the end of the night!

Aly Bain, Ale Möller & Bruce Molsky

Aly Bain is Scotland’s supreme traditional style fiddler. His playing is unique, driving, impassioned and pure, with a vibrant, unmistakable tone that has earned him a following of ardent fans throughout the world. His most recent collaboration with Swedish multi-instrumentalist, Ale Möller, created the album Fully Rigged a celebration of shared Nordic heritage. Completing the line-up is Bruce Molsky, returning to Shetland after his hugely successful concert at Mareel’s Official Opening Weekend last year, has also explored traditional music from an astonishingly broad range of cultures over the past two decades. Chris Stout & Finlay Macdonald

with Ross Martin Thursday 7 November Doors: 7pm, Start: 7.30pm Mareel Auditorium Off the back of recording their new album The Cauld Wind at the studio in Mareel, Chris Stout and Finlay MacDonald, joined by master guitarist Ross Martin, will be returning to the venue for a thrilling live performance on Thursday 7 November, presented by Shetland Arts. Finlay said: “We had been experimenting with different venues for almost two years because we wanted to use a space with a beautiful acoustic which would capture the overall sound that we produce - the Main Auditorium in Mareel was just the perfect place!” Chris added: “Although a lot of the material is from the pipe repertoire, we have composed a fair chunk ourselves and looked to other contemporary composers for inspiration.” £14 / £10

Concert & Website Launch Saturday 23 November Doors: 7pm, Start: 7.30pm Mareel Auditorium Bongshang, Haltadans, Laureen Johnson & Paulo Ritch, The Revellers, Shoormal Band & the Jennifer McCormick Trio, Teevliks, the Yell Shanty Singers, & Neil Thomson of Fair Isle: Mareel music-makers. Over the summer, these musicians and poets have been exploring some of Shetland’s more remote landscapes. The results and stories from their inspirational visits will be heard for the first time at this concert. On this special evening, eight new songs, pieces and suites of poems will be performed by their creators. The event also marks the launch of a new website, backfrombeyond.org, the centre-piece of this project, will also be launched, from where each of these new works can be downloaded for free. £14 / £12

Tuesday 19 November Doors: 7pm, Start: 7.30pm Mareel Auditorium Deacon Blue front man Ricky Ross travels to Shetland as he tours his new album ‘Trouble Came Looking,’ to perform songs from his solo career and Deacon Blue, and to tell the stories behind the songs. Ricky says of the tour: “I’m looking forward to playing places we couldn’t get to with Deacon Blue, and sharing the untold stories behind my songs.” Ricky began writing ‘Trouble Came Looking’ as the recession hit. It’s a modern folk album about the helplessness felt as governments signed off billions to protect banks, leaving the people to fend for themselves. £20

Saturday 30 November Mareel Auditorium Students studying BA Applied Music at University of the Highlands & Islands locations all across Scotland, including Shetland, come together for a spectacular live concert at Mareel.

AB/CD are the world’s number 1 tribute to legendary aussie rockers AC/ DC, and are the only tribute to be officially endorsed by the band themselves.This will be AB/CD’s 6th trip to Shetland following previously sold out shows at the Clickimin Centre, Mid Yell Hall, Symbister Hall and North Star. £20 18+ event

Saturday 7 December Doors: 8pm, Start: 8.30pm Mareel Auditorium At their headline festival appearances this summer on the Grass Roots Stage at Belladrum and at Fringe by the Sea, The Springsteen Sessions are undertaking an extensive 20-date tour of Scotland and the north of England - from Lerwick to Berwick! For three years now, this exciting and talented group of Scottish musicians have thrilled audiences across the country with their dynamic versions of the best of The Boss and The E Street Band - from the early albums like Greetings from Asbury Park right through to Wrecking Ball. All the classics and anthems are delivered with attention to detail, ensuring that the authentic sound of Bruce and The E Street Band is delivered. with support from Bleachie, The Revellers, & others Friday 20 December Doors: 6.30pm, Start: 7pm Mareel Auditorium The Amphetameanies make a welcome return to Shetland following their appearance at Shetland Rocks in 2004. A ten piece band that opened the very first T in the Park playing the main stage, they put on a fantastic show for all. Supported by Bleachie, a Blondie tribute band who are the nearest to the real thing you can get, and with local support from The Revellers and other special guests.
