CREATIVE INDUSTRIES: FILM SUBJECT TO APPROVAL (SQA)

Entry requirements: Four Standard Grades (at General level or
above). Applications will also be welcomed from holders of other awards and qualifications deemed comparable to those above, or from students who have completed an appropriate Access programme. Applications from students without qualifications but who demonstrate ability, interest and commitment are also welcomed.
COURSE SUMMARY This course is designed to develop your knowledge and understanding of the working practices of the UK Creative Industries with a focus on video production. Students will develop creative and technical skills relevant for employment within the Creative Industries, one of the fastest growing sectors of the UK economy, and for progression to further learning. The course is based around a set of core Creative Industries modules with specialist modules in subjects including scriptwriting, camera work, lighting, directing and editing.
COURSE CONTENT Creative Industries: Intro to the Creative Industries, Creative Project, Creative Process, Creative Analysis, Social Networking, Working for Yourself, Work Experience. Video Production specialism: Video Camera Operations, Video Editing, Lighting, Directing, Sound Production: Recording and Editing, Scriptwriting Students will also have the opportunity to study Essential Skills modules in Information Technology, Communications, Numeracy, Information Technology and Higher English.
HOW WILL I STUDY? Classes will be taught by working professionals using a combination of practical real world projects exercises, online resources and classroom/studio-based tutorials. Music students will learn through practical real world projects in conjunction with NC Creative Industries: Music students.

CREATIVE INDUSTRIES PROGRESSION Academic: Successful completion of the NC programme provides progression to BA Film Making at Shetland College UHI, or HNC and Higher National Diploma (HND) film and video courses and related subject programmes at other higher education institutions throughout the UK. Employment/Career: This NC programme prepares students for a range of careers in the film and media production industry or a related Creative Industry area.
