FROM
THE
FOUNDER
It’s hard to believe that November 2015 marks 20 years of Arbor. Looking back, I’m astonished that so much time has passed since we first turned a love for riding, and confidence that we could offer something fresh, into our first board. The only way I get my head around the years is knowing that we never slowed our pursuit of craftsmanship, commitment to the environment, and dedication to the good times that got us here in the first place. For us, it’s been a non-stop journey into shape, material, art, and life lived in the pursuit of skating and snowboarding. The funny thing is that I feel like we’re just getting started. So we don’t plan to stop for long and reminisce. The future looms large and this 20-year offering represents where the Arbor Collective is heading: a direction defined by a two-decade long partnership with riders, artists, distributors, dealers, reps, suppliers, media, and our larger in-house crew. Many have been part of Arbor through the years, and all have added to what we are today.

SINCE
DAY
ONE
The Arbor Collective is a crew of friends with a range of approaches to what, why, and where to ride. Tying these diverse perspectives together is a shared respect for the environment. That connection is a huge part of why Arbor was founded, and continues to be a driving force at the brand. Since day one, we’ve donated a portion of everything sold to groups that protect and restore forests, and promoting the sustainable use of natural resources. This is our Returning Roots program. The effort has been centered on the Koa highlands of Hawaii. We see this as the best way to give back to the planet and culture that gave us riding in the first place. The native Hawaiians invented surfing as much as 1,000 years ago, on boards made from Koa wood. If you surf mountains, sidewalks, or swell - the Hawaiians get a nod of gratitude. The Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative is our main Returning Roots partner today. This group is not just planting trees - they are rebuilding forests. By Spring 2015, they will have planted over 300,000 Koa trees on 800 acres of former forestland, with a full range of native understory plants to complete the ecosystem. The Hawaiian Legacy Reforestation Initiative is helping Arbor to do our part in the restoration and protection of forests, while we strike an important balance with our use of sustainably sourced wood materials.

THE TEAM As our product offering grows, so does the scope of our team. Originally starting as a small downhill skate crew, our family of riders has grown to reflect the evolving environment of skate. Now that small crew has grown into the best downhill team in the industry. We’ve brought in powerful street riders to grow the Whiskey Project and young guns to back up the performance of our Sucrose Initiative wheels. From fresh blood to veteran, we believe great brands are built on great people. It is our goal to elevate Arbor and its family riders by building great content for our customers on a consistent basis.

JAMES
KELLY
Born in Petaluma, CA - James grew up riding with some of downhill’s most influential skaters. For years, he’s been showing that there’s no road that can’t be conquered. He has perfected his abilities to skate anything at speed, while building the discipline required to keep calm when the consequences are high. James is no stranger to the racecourse and podium, yet he’s most at home on the hills surrounding his family cabin in the Western Sierras.

LIAM
MORGAN
Oakland native, Liam Morgan helped lead the evolution of what freeride skateboarding is today. For years, Liam has been re-defining the sport, blending speed and massive slides with an ability to ride switch at all levels and a unique confidence on both mountain and urban roads. He has proven that skill and style still drive top level skateboarding, and that being a professional downhill skateboarder isn’t just about racing.

TYLER
HOWELL
Tyler Howell came out of the local Santa Barbara surf scene to surprise us all with a natural ability on any board and a propensity for going big - often to the joy and terror of anyone in the vicinity. Since joining the crew, he’s worked hard and dedicated himself to skateboarding - and skateboarding has given back. In the mountains, the parks, or whatever landscape he ends up skating. Tyler has a long time ahead of him to shine with speed and style.

BRANDON
TISSEN
Brandon Tissen has the ability to pull tricks that make you look twice. With a strong capacity as a skatepark rat, his style and skill flow seamlessly from downhill to coping. Brandon is at the forefront of what it means to throw down in any discipline, but his true talent shines when he brings all these styles together. Brandon is actively defining the future of hybrid skateboarding. His style mirrors his personality - smooth and understated with an underlying intensity that is prone to pop off at any moment.

CAMERON
REVIER
Hailing from the rural cuts of upstate New York, Cameron slays concrete in a way that few can match. Known for his clean style and high-speed lines in the tightest transitions, Cameron skates with precision while maintaining the vibe of what skateboarding is all about. On any given day you can catch him at the Venice skatepark giving one-man demos that show what it means to skate with determination and flow.

SEAN
IMES
Coming from America’s hometown of Plymouth, Massachusetts, Sean has brought over one of the most stylish frontside feeble grinds to the west coast of Venice Beach. Besides skating huge rails for breakfast, Sean handles some of the biggest gaps and stairs with his patented back 360’s and backside bigspins. Sean is an all terrain vehicle and backs it with speed and finesse.

Someone once said, “You guys must be drinking Whiskey if you think Arbor can sell street skates.” Three years down the road, it turns out we were able to do both. We just stayed on course: built from our roots, trusted our team, and stuck to the Arbor story. The Whiskey Collection is a deck only offering that draws on Arbor’s Artist Collective to increasingly deliver fresh graphics. The boards are built with a blended construction of six Maple plies for the lightweight performance you expect, and a Bamboo ply for added pop and durability. Bamboo is a grass that is one of the strongest materials on the planet. It has 40 times the effective life of carbon fiber and provides considerably more return than traditional materials. Bamboo’s weight-to-strength ratio is superior to steel, yet it is light, flexible, and resistant to compression. The Whiskey Project - Grassroots Construction.

The Heritage Collection was created to celebrate 20 years of Arbor and the wood shop tradition that helped inspire our founding. These hand-shaped, solid wood planks are made in a style that evolved between the early 60’s and mid 70’s. A time when genuine craftsman were intersecting line and grain to create shapes that would define the future. The Heritage Skates are made out of premium Hawaiian Koa wood sourced from sustainable “wind fall” trees off the Big Island. The boards come with custom Heritage Series wheels and Bennett Trucks for a turn that has that sidewalk surf vibe built in. For the collector, each model is individually engraved and numbered to mark the limited 95 piece per shape production run.

Established in 2010, Caliber Truck Co. has quickly become one of the most recognized performance truck brands on the market. Quality, performance, and amazing content has put their products on the map and caught the attention of skaters around the world. The first trucks to market were their Forty-Four and Fifty reverse kingpin models. With help from top riders like Liam Morgan, Caliber rapidly became one of the most influential brands in downhill skateboarding. With the introduction of their Standard design, Caliber now has a truck for all skaters. Today, Caliber is the go-to truck for Arbor Skateboards. The partnership has reinforced our Certified Complete offering of fully assembled skateboards built using select, high-end components that match the performance and geometry of each of our shapes.

The Sucrose Initiative was developed to bring together rider based design, performance across a wide range of conditions, and an effort to start reducing our reliance on petroleum based materials.
G R O OV E T U B E C O R E S Arbor’s Groovetube core has a wider “tube” profile that allows the wheel to hold its shape where it’s supposed to and flex where it needs to. This greatly improves performance across of a range of conditions by improving grip, roll, and slide. Though wide and supportive, the Groovetube core is only 35mm tall, smaller than any other core on the market, and gives you more life out of your wheel than all of the competition.
SUGAR FORMULA Arbor’s new Sugar Formula significantly improves performance and creates one of the longest-lasting wheels on the market. The natural component also reduces, in a small but important way, the petroleum footprint of our wheels lessening the environmental impact of constantly sliding wheels. This resistance to deterioration ensures that you maintain speed and performance in your riding, improving grip, slide, and the life of your wheels.

The Arbor Collective is a diverse cooperative of athletes, artists, designers, and friends who share a respect for the planet. Since 1995, it’s been good times, all day, everyday, without fail. Along the way, we worked to combine time honored craftsmanship and forward thinking construction, with a serious commitment to the environment. The result - Arbor Snowboards, Arbor Skateboards, and Arbor Apparel; three stand alone lines connected by a shared perspective on design, quality, and performance.
