This is what everyone’s been waiting for, end of the monsoon and the start of the fishing season! Do you have your gear ready? Well I’m sure the folks around Penang were preparing way in advance for this very day. Last year, on 27th November, Shimano held its Open House at Sunway Hotel Seberang Jaya in Prai, Penang. And despite a heavy downpour, the event saw a large turnout. A wide array of Shimano products was on display and attendees had a chance to try out the latest Shimano products such as Vanquish and OCEA Conquests reels, Jigwrex UD rod and Shimano’s new Kairiki braided line.

As with every Open House, Shimano staff were readily available to answer to any questions that anglers might have on products, Shimano technologies or after-sales service. Besides the latest products, anglers were also able to get a 30% Open House discount on their favourite products that were on display such as the Beastmaster 3000XP/XS electric reels, Caius baitcast reel, Speedmaster Slow Jig rod, Grappler BB light jigging rod and reel as well as King Slasher and Pebble Stick lures among others. There were various rod and reel combo sets and special offers on fishing apparels, anglers who purchased an Open House catalogue package were also entitled to a chance to take part in the lucky draw.

Figure 3: Attendees purchasing the catalogue set, which entitles them to a chance in the lucky draw In a first for event organizers, attendees had a chance to watch a live demonstration on the various casting techniques that an angler can use such as roll-cast, side-cast and overhead-cast and how backlash can be avoided conducted by Ben Akhtar from OFT Pancing Sdn Bhd. The demonstration was also streamed Live onto Facebook so that anglers who were unable to attend the event were able to catch a glimpse of the demonstration.

Angling & Outdoor Recreational Fair 2017
At the Angling & Outdoor Recreational Fair 2017, there will be a chance to interact with renowned Japanese Electric Reel instructor, Mr Takahashi Tetsuya. Mr Takahashi will be at the show on 28th ,29th and 30th of April. He will be sharing about his fishing experience in Kuching on top of explaining about electric reel fishing and giving electrical reels tips for the anglers. There will also be an autograph/photo session for all anglers attending the show. There will be 1 show on 28th April at 5pm-5.45pm , 2 shows on 29th April at 2pm-2.45pm and 5pm-5.45pm and 1 show on 30th April at 2pm-2.45pm. Come join in the excitement!
