THE DIGITAL ARTWORK OF JIM TIGNOR
DIGITAL ARTWORK I have been drawing, coloring, and painting since I was a young child. A few years ago I began dabbling on my iPad making digital art, or digital collages. It has gotten to the point where I almost never paint with oils anymore. The power, portability, and ease is unparalleled. I’ve included a variety of my most recent works here. I hope you enjoy what you find. ~ Jim Tignor

FISHING Typically, I draw what I love. Fly-fishing is one such subject matter. In the last two years I’ve become utterly obsessed with Tenkara fly-fishing. The following images are inspired by my time on the river, or tying flies

SWEAT, PAIN, AND ENDORPHINS There are few “activities in my life that have been constantly important for me. Both cycling and running have been the most consistent. I am happy going by myself or in a small group. I define myself as both a cyclist and a runner. Preferably in the woods or high country.

I once heard a trail runner refer to running downhill at top speed as “letting God drive.

SCIENCE FICTION I have been an avid reader my whole life. I read a variety of genres, but will readily admit, one of my favorite genres is science fiction. I am particularly drawn to the magic and loneliness conveyed by astronauts and robots. The following series celebrates these ideas.

SPIRITUALITY I think of myself as an irritable and non-compliant Quaker. Sometimes I’m amazed by the world around us, and other times simply annoyed by our own thick headedness. These works likely only make sense to me. Regardless, I hope you enjoy them.

"A Modern Take on the Canterbury Psaltors". In 1170, Thomas Becket, Archbishop of Canterbury, returned from exile in France with a series of splendid manuscripts which were to influence the style of the scriptorium at Christ Church, Canterbury, the monastery servicing Canterbury Cathedral, then one of the most important centers making illuminated manuscripts in England. The work is simply lovely. This is my attempt to render something, anything, that reflects it's glory in digital form.

HEROES, VILLAINS, AND DUDES My first recognizable drawings as a child were super heroes. I’ve always loved them. As I got older, I came to appreciate the villains a bit more. I still enjoy the escapism of spandex and muscles.

I’d never heard of a “Drink and Draw before. The premise is that you buy a beer (or two), and everyone is given a piece of paper, a theme, and about 15 minutes to make a drawing. This occurred at a local bar which features over 60 old school video games, and the theme was Star Wars. The sketch to the right won me a graphic novel. Later I decided to make a digital collage from the image.
