Welcome to another edition of The Riverbank, which shows, as ever, the packed and busy world of Shiplake College. This marks the third issue that we have published digitally, and I hope you find that the additional array of content available at your fingertips adds to your enjoyment!

There has been so much packed in to the first half of this academic year. Already we have launched the exciting learning and teaching framework, the Shiplake Seven, become part of the British Boarding Schools' Association celebratory orchard,

and impressed audiences with the junior and senior productions. This amongst our usual plethora of sporting achievements, activities, and trips abroad.

I am happy to report that Shiplake is still excellent: following our brilliant ISI inspection results, we have continued to develop innovative and unique ways to learn and mature. I hope you enjoy reading about these within this magazine.

NEWS

Record-Breaking Sixth Form Results In a record-breaking year, the College delighted in revealing an excellent set of results at A Level, AS Level and BTEC. The attainment of high-end grades (A*-A) by both Year 12 and 13 increased by almost 10%, whilst the attainment of A*-B grades also rose significantly, by almost 12%. Headmaster Gregg Davies commented ‘I am very pleased with the results. The outstanding grades achieved by Sixth Form pupils demonstrate again the considerable strength of teaching

and learning at Shiplake. These achievements are a reflection of the endeavour and resilience that our pupils have displayed during their time at Shiplake.’ Leavers gained admission to a variety of leading higher education institutions, including Oxbridge, Ivy League and Russell Universities.

Freddie Ireland left to join Clare College, Cambridge; Henry Cawthorne headed to Dartmouth College, USA and George Lawley to Royal Holloway University of London, to name a few.

A Warm Welcome to New Staff

New faces joined the Shiplake family for this academic year. In January, Director of Music Mr Richard Curran and DT teacher Mr Tom Bayley, joined September starters Head of History Mrs Catherine Munro, Head of Theology and Philosophy Miss Lizzy Morgan, Business Studies teacher Mr David Rose, Photography teacher Mr Oliver Weait, English teacher Mrs Jane Redley, History teacher Mr Jonathan Gillespie-Payne and Learning Development teacher Mrs Judit Coulehan. A teacher who needs no introduction to the school is Mathematics teacher Mr Chris Ellaby, who himself attended Shiplake as a pupil. Mr Roy Kemp joins the team as Estates Manager.

BSA Orchard

The Boarding Schools’ Association was created to champion boarding and promote boarding excellence, representing independent and state boarding schools both nationally and internationally.

To celebrate the association’s golden jubilee, the Boarding Orchard was launched, encouraging schools to plant fruit trees in their grounds. Shiplake was the 48th school to join, proudly assuming the accolade of the first school to plant a mulberry tree.

Change of Deputy Head Academic

The school looks forward to welcoming Dr Gareth Hughes, who will join the staff as Deputy Head of Academic. Current Deputy Head of Academic, Mr Ian Munro, has been appointed the new headteacher of Kelvinside Academy, a leading independent school of 600 girls and boys aged 3-18, based in Glasgow.

Mr Munro will be taking up the position of Rector, a title often used by schools in Scotland, from April 2016. Mr Munro becomes the fifth Deputy Head of Shiplake to receive a promotion to headship in as many years and also becomes the youngest serving HMC headmaster, which is a impressive achievement.

Gareth joins Shiplake in September 2016, having worked as Head of Curriculum Innovation at Radley College. He had taught Geography and was an Assistant Housemaster at Radley, before being made the Head of Geography in 2010.

Media Heads Out

All Business for BTEC Business BTEC have had a busy few weeks with external visitors and trips to exhibitions.

Year 12 Media Studies pupils expanded their classroom from the usual four walls to take in the entire Shiplake site, as they swapped pen and paper for cameras and scripts. Working on their practical projects, the Sixth Formers were given the brief to create an opening of an original television show, filmed on the College grounds.

Shiplake Seven Launched

The teaching and learning framework, the Shiplake Seven, has launched. This is designed to foster and open-minded develop key interpersonal qualities in our young learners. motivated The framework encourages Shiplake pupils to be curious, reflective open-minded, motivated, reflective, determined, creative determined and independent in their learning. These seven qualities not only provide a solid foundation for pupils to achieve success creative throughout their education, but also equip our leavers with independent “develop the genius within you” the skills they need to enter the next stage of their lives, as Alexander Everett, Shiplake College Founder confident, personable and talented young adults.

Learning with Lego Year 7 and 8 enjoyed a trip to Legoland with the Mathematics Department, to enjoy a number of mathematics-themed workshops throughout the day.

The pupils tackled such tasks as creating pulleys and gears systems, entirely from Lego!

Other workshops included computer coding, controlling robots by inputting instructions on angles of motion and revolutions of circles. A far cry from the classroom, but an innovative way of getting to grips with mathematics!

Battling It Out

Year 7 Historians were treated to a rather unusual History lesson, donning cardboard shields and foil-covered helmets to re‑enact the Battle of Hastings.

The hands-on approach aided the boys’ understanding of the intricacies of warfare.

Pupil Excels

Having done exceptionally well in the Bebras UK Computational Challenge at the end of last term, ranking amongst the top 20 pupils across the UK, Year 7 pupil Jamie Liu was invited back to participate in the final stages of the national contest.

GCSE Results Revealed Alongside exceptional Sixth Form results, GCSE grades showed a strong consolidation of our overall pass rate, with 95% of pupils achieving at least five A* to C grades. This success is built upon impressive performances in key curriculum areas of Science, Mathematics and English. Many pupils attained an impressive record of high-end grades, with Charlie Ward and Charles Bertram standing out as star performers. Darien Patel, Austin Burnand, Jack Leigh, Sebastian Roberts, Zach Messer and Oliver Walker were amongst a large group of students who achieved a majority of A* or A grades.

ACADEMIC

Headmaster’s Business Award Launched

The Business Studies and Media Studies Departments have launched this year's competition for the prestigious Headmaster's Business Award, following on from the success of the inaugural awards last year. Tasks will include developing a marketing campaign for a Gucci product, and a promotional campaign for a Nike product. The two departments are working together to encourage pupils to prepare creative and innovative entries using the latest technology. The pupils will then turn their work into documentaries, which will be judged by a panel of esteemed judges.

GCSE to A Level

Making the jump from AS Level to A Level is incredibly difficult, and the difference in workload levels means that Year 13 pupils spend a lot of time concentrating on studying. However, perhaps a more noticeable jump is the one from GCSE to AS Level; changing from studying many subjects to just three or four in intense detail is a challenge for anyone!

In order to make the transition as smooth as possible, the new Year 12s attended a seminar,

hosted by Elevate Education, on tips and ideas on best practise to get the most out of the AS Level year. The talk covered revision techniques, research tips and how to organise time.

Drop Everything

Year 10 Take Off Two pupils from Year 10, Zack Green and Dominic Brown, were treated to a ride in a very unusual mode of transport; a helicopter! As a reward for winning the Eaton Prize, named after Old Viking Bill Eaton, Zack and Dom went up by helicopter to view the area, and their own homes, in an airborne capacity.

The award recognises two Year 9 pupils who have shown significant academic progression across the year.

Skyping Space

Commander Chris Hadfield has found fame on YouTube playing the guitar and singing Space Oddity from the International Space Station. Before becoming

a weightless singing sensation, Commander Hadfield is foremost a pioneering astronaut, having flown two space shuttle missions.

Shiplake pupils skyped Chris to ask him their burning questions.

He spoke candidly to the packed Lecture Theatre about his experiences.. He described witnessing sunsets from the Space Station, and how being in zero gravity is like ‘magic’. Chris revealed that the guitar from his world-famous video has been round the world 14 times!

... and read. In December, an initiative to encourage reading for pleasure in youngsters took place across the school. At exactly 11.00am, pens and pencils were downed and reading material was chosen, and the entire Shiplake cohort enjoyed an hour of reading.

Staff joined in as well, in this innovative attempt to inspire more reading outside the classroom.

Pupils Explore

Year 13 Geographers visited St Helen and St Katharine School, Abingdon to enjoy a talk about Human Geography. The lecture was given by Professor Danny Dorling, a lecturer at the University of Oxford amongst other impressive roles on his resume. Using big data, maps and statistics, Danny, renowned author of The Population of the UK; Unequal Health and The No-Nonsense Guide to Equality, explained concepts of human geography, poverty and wealth and contemporary Britain.

Historians at Hampton Court

Biologists Explore Year 13 biologists headed to the Isle of Wight to investigate topics relating to the A Level course. They visited sites of Special Scientific Interest.

Year 8 historians travelled to Hampton Court Palace, to enjoy a day learning more about Tudor life, and the reign of Henry VIII. The boys have been studying the Tudors in class and relished

the opportunity to experience a more hands-on approach with learning. The pupils learnt about Tudor architecture, the logistics of running and housing a court of 800.

Mosque Visit

Kenya Expedition with Gap Africa

Year 8 boys visited the Baitful Futuh Mosque in Morden, which is the largest mosque in Western Europe. The boys learnt about Muslim beliefs ande practises.

DofE Expeditions Gold and Silver Duke of Edinburgh expeditions took place towards the end of 2015. Pupils working towards the Gold Award headed to Scotland, to cycle, kayak and canoe their way across the highlands. Those pursuing a Silver Award travelled to the Chilterns, to camp and hike. The expeditions were hard work but incredibly rewarding.

In July a small group of pupils headed to Kenya for a lifechanging expedition, accompanied by Headmaster Mr Gregg Davies, Mrs Alison Davies and Mr Darius Bluck. Organised and led by Marcel and Sally Wagner, in association with charity Gap Africa, the trip had a great significance for the College Expedition Society, as it marked 25 years since its founding.

Pupils Enjoy Literary Festival Pupils from Year 9 English, accompanied by Head of English Mr David Sharkey, attended the Henley Literary Festival. Events varied from current affairs to sport, but the Shiplake boys were audience to a discussion about World War I. The talk was given by former Shiplake teacher Mr Jon Cooksey. event, which provided a helpful foundation for future study of literature from World War I.

CO-CURRICULAR

Actors Head to Edinburgh The Edinburgh Fringe Festival has long established itself as the largest arts festival in the world.

Shiplake’s very own troupe of thespians, the Scruffy Penguin Theatre Company, took to the road and headed to Scotland, to perform in the increasingly popular event. Performing a piece entitled Alice, the crew of 11 actors, accompanied by Head of Drama Mrs Jenny Nunes and Mrs Sian Pearson, enjoyed an intense experience as a travelling theatre company. The troupe performed in front of a live audience each day of the Festival, and headed out onto the city streets to generate interest and intrigue.

Dramatic Evening Year 11 Performing Arts pupils entertained a live audience with a collection of monologues and duologues, that showcased their ever-increasing performance skills, highlighting the incredible progress that has been made since starting the course in September last year. Organised

by Head of Drama Mrs Jenny Nunes, parents, staff and fellow students filled the Tithe Barn theatre, giving the budding thespians an appreciative and crowded audience! Will Parton kicked off the evening with an emotional performance about abandoning a loved one.

Following Will’s touching piece were Dan Butt and Sam Lowe, who had also both chosen to perform monologues. Dan’s piece was taken from a play called Home, whilst Sam Lowe stunned the audience with his convincing portrayal of a suicidal man.

Pirates Steal Stage The Drama Department put on a spectacular production of Robert Louis Stevenson’s Treasure Island. Combining award-winning playwright Bryony Lavery’s hilarious script with an ambitious changeable set, fantastic costumes, a folie artist team and a group of shanty singers, the production was exciting and action-packed.

Lower School pirate hakkas, the discerning landlubbers and the main pirate crew (with plenty of 'arrrrs' and sword fights), thrilled audiences across the whole week.

Off to Court

Sixth Form pupils were invited by her Honour Judge Angela Morris to take part in a local art competition, held in Reading Crown Court. Avid enthusiasts, working with the theme 'Off to Court', took the wonderful opportunity of exhibiting artwork to the public and Year 13 pupil James Hargreaves won a prize!

Orchard Victorious in House Art

The annual House Art Competition was held in the Great Hall, with pupils from across the school showcasing their hard work. The Great Hall was adorned with a variety of pupils’ and staff members’ artistic triumphs, and parents, friends and family were welcomed to the exhibition.

At Break of Day

The senior production, At Break of Day, explored the journey of two soldiers making their way home from war, and one of the soldiers records his experiences in a notebook. The hard-hitting performance saw Year 13 pupil Angus Meldrum and Year 11 pupil Will Parton take on the parts of the two soldiers, ably supported by a fantastic cast of actors.

Artists Light Up

A local art exhibition was held in October at the Old Fire Station Gallery, in Henley. The Henley Arts and Crafts Guild Autumn Exhibition is a highlight in the local calendar, and local artists are offered the chance to display their artwork for the community to see. This year, two Shiplake Sixth Form students; James Hargreaves and Billy Sayers, both Year 13, were invited to display artwork in the exhibition.

Florizel String Quartet Visits

The Florizel String Quartet performed for staff, pupils and parents in the Lecture Theatre.

Made up of outstanding young musicians from the prestigious Academy in London, they are working on crafting careers as professional performers. The quartet visited at the invitation of Director of Music Mr Richard Curran, giving a spectacular performance to the eager crowd.

The group opened with Beethoven's String Quartet No 1 in F Major, followed by Debussy's String Quartet in G Minor. The audience was mesmerised after such a captivating concert: Mr Curran commented that 'the repertoire was light-hearted, and thoroughly enjoyed by all.'

Lunchtime Concerts Lunchtime concerts made a return for the Autumn Term in spectacular style; a group of accomplished musicians played for a crowded Lecture Theatre. Originally started to offer budding musicians the opportunity to perform in front of a live audience, the increasingly popular concerts provide the ideal platform to gain this experience. Different pupils perform in the concerts, and audiences enjoy a range of piano pieces, singing, wind and brass pieces.

The Tempest

Pupils from Years 11 and 13 visited the Oxford Playhouse to see Shakespeare's The Tempest performed. The front row seats provided a fantastic view for the innovative and unique portrayal of one of the Bard's great plays. www.shiplake.org.uk

SPORT

Players Tour South Africa

Rugby players enjoyed an action-packed rugby tour in South Africa. The busy schedule saw training in the mornings and travelling around the area to play against a variety of different schools. Of the five fixtures played, the team experienced different pitches and playing techniques, making local friends. The group also spent time indulging in local culture, visiting an elephant sanctuary and taking a safari walk along hiking trails, immersing themselves in the stunning scenery.

Rugby Awards

At the end of the season players celebrated the outstanding achievements of boys involved with the sport. Awards were given for such categories as Player of the Season, Most Improved and Outstanding Service.

Amidst rain and wind, the annual House Cross Country event took place. Every pupil takes part, gaining glory for their houses. Finishing in first place for the juniors, and achieving the fastest overall time by nine seconds, was Year 10 Orchard House pupil Tom Nike, with a finishing time of 19 minutes and 48 seconds. Orchard House Year 13 pupil Olli Riley was first for the seniors, making it three years in a row! Lucy Watson (Year 13, Welsh) came in first for the girls.

Runners Inspire The Shiplake sporting community received a visit from Rob Young and Adam Holland, who are breaking records running marathon distances daily. The pair inspired Shiplake's athletes.

Lessons About Nutrition Tim Clark, a high-performance rower, visited the school to give an insight into nutritional knowledge for aspiring and elite athletes. Tim, who currently trains at Leander Club and has won a gold medal at the World University Championships, gave a talk on fuelling the body for exercise as well as recovery.

Cross Country Hat-Trick

Row to Glory

The House Ergo competition went down a storm, with teams competing for victory. After taking part in a one minute rowing challenge, followed by a relay race, Everett House was declared the ergo winners, whilst Burr were the relay champions!

Summer Rowing Camps

90 rowers of all levels of experience took part in two weeks of rowing camps over the summer.

Taking advantage of the College’s well-equipped Boathouse, participants rowed in eights, octuples, quad sculls, double sculls and pairs.

SPORT

Shiplake Kicks Off Rugby 7s Shiplake hosted the curtain raiser to the hotly anticipated schools' Rugby 7s season. Top rugby teams from schools across the country headed to the College to play against their rivals. Shiplake were joined by teams from Caterham, Tonbridge,

Cheltenham, Hurstpierpoint, Seaford, Abingdon, Bedford, Oakham, Haileybury, Radley and Worth. The teams battled it out to be the proud winners of the Cracknell Cup, with Bedford taking victory.

FNL 2015

Headmaster’s XV Selected

Three sets of Headmaster’s XVs have been selected so far this academic year. This sporting achievement recognises fifteen pupils who have been exemplary in their sport over the course of the season. Winners so far have included Charlie Sichel, Toby Orchard, Emily Wilkinson and Elizabeth Findlay.

Friday Night Lights against Merchant Taylors' School took place at Henley Rugby Club.

Nike Races Ahead

Football

Year 10 pupil Tom Nike impressed at the Southern Counties Cross Country Championships. Tom is part of Reading Athletic Club's team.

A review of the football season will take place in Part 2 of the 2015-2016 Riverbank.

Rowers Race Pairs Head

GB Glory for J16 Crew

For the event on the famous Oxford versus Cambridge Boat Race course, Shiplake boated an impressive nine crews, including three girls double sculls, three boys double sculls and three coxless pairs. Seb Newman and Charlie Rollet-Manus finished 7th from the 470 boats competing, coming 2nd in the Junior 18 doubles. Oliver Gerrard and Will Carey finished 26th, and James Love and Ben Pogmore finished 15th in their division.

The summer holidays proved very busy for the Shiplake rowers. The J16 crew, having sailed through the Under 16 Great Britain trials, represented their country in a race against France.

The coxless four travelled to London to represent Great Britain, facing international crews. Seb Newman, Christian Hjortland-Marks, Henry BloisBrooke and Hugo Oglina joined a GB squad of 15 crews, achieving victory over the French crew!

House Parties

The start of the Autumn Term meant that new and existing boarders were welcomed into the different houses, enjoying House parties, barbecues and trips out; the first two weeks of term flew by in a haze of fun-filled events!

Reading Between the Lens

A photography competition took place over the summer, to take a photo of yourself reading in an interesting place. Here’s the winner...

Masterchefs

Pupils from Gilson and College House have taken on a number of challenges – cooking, singing, general knowledge quizzes and a netball match. The ‘Masterchef’ challenge saw boys versus girls, creating sumptuous three course meals for a panel of judges. The boys were victorious with their menu of salmon and cream cheese starters, chicken wrapped in Parma ham and chocolate brownie.

Inspirational Author Visit

Award-winning author, adventurer and filmmaker Matt Dickinson visited the College to deliver a fascinating talk on his incredible life, which has included climbing the world’s tallest mountain, Everest, and creating numerous documentaries centred around pushing the human body to its limits in the most inhospitable environments. Digital librarian Miss Claire Knight and Mrs Eleanor Hallam organised the visit, after reading Matt’s book, The Everest Files, with Lower School. The group were enthralled by his talk, which was informative, funny and energising.

Christmas Service The whole Shiplake community joined together for a beautiful Christmas service at St Mary’s Church, Henley. The service included performances from the Chamber Choir, readings and festive hymns, and was led by the Rev'd Stephen Cousins.

Readings were given from a number of pupils, including Darius Braun, Claire Fifield and Sylvester Sutherland. Music scholar Bobby Howard-Jones sang the solo of Once in Royal's David City beautifully.

Cadets Impress

Cadets from the CCF impressed during the recent Biennial Inspection. Cadets received different awards and instructor lanyards for passing such courses as Method of Instruction and Teamwork and Personal Development. The cadets had been split into their various disciplines, and accomplished different tasks throughout the day, such as using model aircrafts to assist with the understanding of principles of flight, and undergoing intensive leadership and team building activities.

Burns Night

Shiplake celebrated Burns Night in style; haggis and tatties were served for lunch, and pupils queuing were serenaded

by James Croser on the bagpipes.

James donned full traditional Scottish dress, looking every bit the part!

Winter Concert

The annual Winter Concert returned, and family, friends and parents filled out the Sports Hall to enjoy another evening of musical talent and entertainment. The evening was a resounding success, with the Orchestra, Chamber Choir and First Eight taking to the stage, amongst many other groups.

Festive songs were played alongside toetapping popular hits and jazzy tunes.

Geocaching

Outdoor Education is a popular part of the timetable, and covers a plethora of different activities.

Recently, however, Mr Darius Bluck, Ms Anna Morgan and a group of pupils have been exploring an altogether different activity: geocaching.

Geocaching is a real-world, outdoor treasure hunting game, using GPS enabled devices to track down a specific set of GPS coordinates to try and find the 'geocache' (or container) which is hidden at the location. Proving a popular event with the pupils, they have already found the pieces in this worldwide treasure hunt.

Getting Social for Gap Africa

Debating Matters Year 13 pupils headed to Leighton Park School, Reading, to battle it out in the Debating Matter contest, hosted by the Institute of Ideas. Claire Fifield, Ollie Riley, Ed Warren and Matt Brown participated in the debate.

The teams discussed such topics as sex selective abortion, and the use of performance-enhancing drugs in sport. With one victory and one loss, the teams are eager to return next year! www.shiplake.org.uk

Skipwith House Charity and Events Captains Anna Davies and Carl Harris organised and hosted a social for Year 9 pupils from both Shiplake and Queen Anne's School, Caversham.

With the help of ten Shiplake Sixth Formers on the night,

the fundraising scheme raised money for the charity Gap Africa. Over 75 pupils from the two schools attended the social, enjoying music and dancing. The group raised over ÂŁ390 from the sales of tickets, soft drinks and snacks.

Touch Down for OVS Rugby The first Touch Rugby and Beer Festival was a great success.

Although the day started cloudy with patchy showers, the sun quickly broke the barrier of cloud and blazed down on what was a fantastic day of unparalleled sporting triumph in the inaugural games. Teams of parents, staff

and Old Vikings from across the years entered, and ten teams of mixed abilities battled it out across two pitches to become the reigning champions. The matches were close, but after 22 intense games, it was the Staff Tall team left to take on Staff Small. The speedy Staff Small

The Largest Coffee Morning The Parents’ Association held a coffee morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support. Hosted in the OVR, staff and parents donated baked and bought goods, to raise money for the charity.

The event was a great success and raised £235 for the charity.

got the better of the long-limbed Staff Tall, winning with just three points to two. Players and spectators enjoyed beer from Keystone Brewery and a barbecue and hog roast throughout the afternoon.

This year’s event will be on Saturday 10 September.

Satch Strikes Gold

Old Viking Will Satch (07S) won a gold medal at the 2015 World Rowing Championships on Lake Aiguebelette, France. Will, having been training since winning a bronze medal at the Olympics in 2012, headed to France to represent Great Britain as part of the Men’s Eight. He rowed alongside the 2014 World Championship crew.

We Shared a Tent

During December a reception was held to celebrate 25 years of the Shiplake College Expedition Society. Hosted

by Old Vikings and current pupils and staff, the event celebrated past trips, showcasing stunning photographs from them. The expeditions have long been held by charity Gap Africa, and so the event provided the ideal opportunity to look at the myriad of future projects for the charity. Over £400 from the sale of photographs was raised for the charity.

The British crew raced against Germany; the win made it the third consecutive year that Britain’s men’s eight have won the title.

This is also the 15th medal won at the 2015 World Championships.

WIDER COMMUNITY

Catering Serve an Update The Shiplake College Catering Department underwent extensive refurbishment over the summer. Updates to the Eat 2 Win restaurant have made the cafeteria modern and stylish.

The finishing touches, such as blackboards displaying the dish of the day and wire pudding stands would not look out of place at the most fashionable restaurant. The refurbishment to the space means that more room has been created, to allow

easier access to the serving areas. The menus have also received an update, with an impressive selection of food across breakfast, lunch and dinner still being offered, as well as healthy snacks and desserts.

The College held a service to remember those that have fallen during wars, and those still fighting today. The guest speaker was 7/7 London bombings survivor Mr Tim Coulson MBE.

Thinking Space

To coincide with the Rugby World Cup, the International Defence Rugby Competition pitted twelve military teams, made up of soldiers, airmen and marines, against each other. Some Lower School boys were invited to be ball boys for the event. Wing Commander Ferguson presented them with the commemorative shirt as a thank you for their involvement.

SCBCSA Dine Out on Achievements

The Shiplake College Boat Club Supporters’ Association hosted a Rowing Club Dinner at the iconic Leander Club in Henley.

Nearly 100 parents, supporters and Great Britain rowers Alex Gregory, Matt Langridge, Polly Swann and Old Viking Will Satch joined the event. The evening was a celebration of the achievements of the Shiplake Rowing Club throughout the academic year, offering parents and supporters an opportunity

to relax over an excellent dinner.

A fundraising campaign was put into motion, raising much-needed funds for the 2015 ‘Trailer Cash’ campaign. During the evening, a number of fundraising activities were held, professionally organised by Jonty and Toni Hearnden. The result was an incredible £3,000 towards a new boat trailer!

Safety First for Pupils

Mr Nick Windsor from Watlington and Henley Fire Stations, visited to give a ‘Choices and Consequence’ lecture to Sixth Formers. www.shiplake.org.uk

Remembrance Day

The School Library Association have published a case study on Shiplake's distinctive Thinking Space. Written by Miss Claire Knight, the article was published in the SLA’s Guidelines, in an issue dedicated to e-resources in Secondary School Libraries.

Shiplake is at the forefront of this exciting venture, and it’s wonderful to see the recognition of Claire’s hard work.

Fundraising Sam

Teacher Mr Tom Crisford's son, Samuel, overcame cancer and, at the tender age of five, has helped raise over £20,000 to help other young cancer survivors.

Summer Ball

The PA Committee are in full organisational mode for the Summer Ball on Saturday 18 June 2016. The black tie event, which will take place in the marquee at Shiplake College, is the ideal opportunity to celebrate the academic year, and socialise with parents and friends.
