Illegal Minerals Mining Said To Be Of RS 96000 Crore Biz In Tamil Nadu Is A Big Hoax The minerals mining business in Tamil Nadu is a very profitable yet regulated industry. The stigma of being a mining company makes it more controversial than it is, taking into account the numerous fraud cases in this sector all over India in the recent years. This case is a classic example of how people are misguided into believing something that’s not true just because it seems to be so.

VV Minerals, a private heavy mineral mining company based in Tamil Nadu and owned by Mr. Vaikundarajan. It was alleged to be involved in illegal sand mining last year by a group of envious rivals, who put up wrong allegations about them. Once the complaints were registered, immediately their actions were suspended until a proper investigation was conducted.

After the investigations were over, the company was proven to be innocent and the claims were dismissed. However, VV Minerals, India is still under a lot of speculation, because

allegations such as these not only create negative impression of the company but also tarnishes their reputation on global fronts where they export their products.

The government does not realize how much this is going to impact the country in the future. They also fail to see what the consequences are of banning the mining activities for about a year now. There have been thousands of people who rely completely on this profession as their daily income, who are now jobless. This has aided not to the benefit but to poverty in these underdeveloped regions.

Heavy mineral mining is also one industry that is strengthening international trade with countries such as China. The Managing Director of VV Mineral, V Subramanian, in a recent interview on Economic Times also explained the

adverse effects of how the government has neglected this industry and imposed such high export duty on their products.

He goes on to explain in another informative news piece on Daily Pioneer about how the government does not realize the worth of ilmenite in India. Ilmenite which is used in making of TiO2. Titanium Dioxide is useful in various applications in industries such as paints and coatings, plastics, paper, ink, fiber and many others.

Illegal sand mining by VV Minerals is not possible as the AERB has certain norms and rules to which private mining companies have to adhere to and abide by it while carrying out their business. J Muthurajan, the Director of VV Mineral makes sure that all the rules are followed by the company.

VV Minerals, India mainly deals with heavy mineral mining of four minerals, namely, garnet, zircon, rutile and ilmenite. They do not deal with thorium mining. There were strick checking done at their mining premises, which proved that they were not involved in any illegal activity. The thorium scam allegations were also dismissed as the thorium content in the sands of the Gulf of Mannar is said to be very low.
