No Ill Effects On The Environment Due to Heavy Mineral Mining, Says Vaikundarajan Most people are unaware about the mineral mining process. In a quest to help people understand the mining industry, we are writing this piece to better educate on the space. VV Mineral has been awarded the 'Number One Garnet Exporters' in our country. Other than this VV Mineral also produce and export other heavy minerals like rutile and ilmenite.

As you are well aware, the process of mineral mining starts with the extraction of mineral rich sand from the sea shores. After the minerals are successfully extracted they are then shipped to a processing unit.

These extractions are done manually in India with the help of hand tools. Contrary to popular belief, the heavy mineral mining does not lead to land depreciation, as sand extracted is transported back to the shores to fill in the empty spaces left after the mining process is completed.

Today, there are countless new methods to bring about efficient and better mining processes. One such technique is the sustainable mining technique, which not only makes

mining possible, but is successful in not polluting the environment.

Below are a few ways one can achieve a pollution free mining activity  Sprinklers cuts down the release of red dust into the atmosphere  Through techniques like afforestation, reclamation and rehabilitation of dormant mines can prove helpful  Water which is extracted during mining can be recycled and reused in villages for secondary purposes like washing clothes and utensils.  The use of mechanical road sweepers help in maintaining cleanliness in the surroundings on mining routes  It is true, that mining can have some drawbacks to its surroundings, but there are positives which cannot be easily discredited.

Firstly, mining can only be conducted at certain places where the minerals are present. Thus, places where mining takes place amenities like education, health and sanitation are provided and benefits the locals in the long run. In India, many of the mines are located in under developed

tribal areas, where the scope of development is less and people’s living standards are low.

As studied in school, minerals are non-renewable resources because of this mining is a temporary activity. This is until the resources are all used up or exhausted. The Ill impact mining has on the environment can be tackled by using the sustainable method as mentioned above.

The company has got various steps in the conservation of water by using water smartly during the mining process. As VV Minerals do not use fresh water they save more than 1.2million kilo litres of water every year, which is a big amount of saving. Also VV Minerals, India do not use chemicals in their units as the use of chemicals would pollute the environment. VV Minerals is a family grown business started by Mr. S. Vaikundarajan, the current chairman of the VV group of companies. The company undertakes mining, however, they use eco-friendly methods.
