Raids On Mining Sites Of VV Minerals, India Reveal No Large-Scale Violations
Special inspection teams conducted raids at the sand quarry of V.V. Minerals, a heavy mineral mining company involved in Garnet mining, Zircon mining, ilmenite mining and rutile mining operations in Tuticorin district, and no large-scale illegal sand mining along the stretches of beaches at Vaipar, Vembar,
Periyasamipuram and its surroundings in Vilathikulam taluk was found.
Two teams comprising District Revenue Officer, Special Deputy Collector (Stamps), Assistant Director of Mines, Revenue Divisional Officer-Kovilpatti, Pollution Control Board officials and other revenue officials conducted raids at the mining locations for over six hours . There were other companies where illegal mining activities were found. Fines would be imposed on the offender soon based on the findings of the final report submitted to the Collector.
VV Minerals, India is privately owned by S. Vaikundarajan and his son V. Subramanian. Heavy mineral mining is an eco friendly process of extracting heavy minerals from beach sand. There is not possible sea erosion and environmental hazards attached to this activity.
