Vaikundarajan’s Office Premises Raided But As Expected No Proof Of Illegal Mining Found
Office premises of S Vaikundarajan at Keeraikaaranthattu near Thisaiyanvilai were raided by investigating authorities. As many in the industry expected, VV Minerals business was clean and nothing was found which could implicit the mineral mining for any wrongdoing. The raid was in relation to a case of alleged export of sand rich in thorium, a radioactive material, to foreign countries.
Mining producers face sever and constant inspections by government agencies throughout the year. All of these support the belief that VV Mineral played no part in the scam. Another factor to be considered is that the government does not grant any permission for private companies to extract minerals like thorium and monazite, which possess radioactive material. Extraction for mineral like garnet, ilmenite, zircon and rutile, the government does give permission.
VV Minerals were condemned of two claims. The first was that there was some illegal activity at the beach sand area. With this they also used to transport monzaite to their warehouses. The second claim was based upon the amount of thorium reserves in the nation.
Private organizations come under the supervision and ascendancy of the Atomic Minerals Directorate of Exploration and Research (AMDER). As per a report presented in the Lok Sabha in 2002, the ADMER states that the country has around 12.8 tonne of thorium in the country. In 2012, a similar report was presented which claimed that there is only 10.7 tonne of thorium in the country. Leading to the question, where is the remaining 235,000 tonne of thorium?
Another factor to be considered in regards to thorium is its availability. The mineral is scarcely available in the country. In most parts of the world, the mineral is readily accessible and not considered rare. Thus, if
the minerals are not rare, it would not be a wise idea for private corporations to sell a product to outsider who is deemed illegal in the host country and get minimal profits.
The actual consumption of thorium is 4 tons annually in our country and the total consumption of the same can be summed up to 10 tons in the whole world which are known facts. Statistics prove that the IREL itself export nearly about 5 tons of monazite per annum. Thus this proves that numbers that they were consuming annually did not match up to the numbers that they were accused of. This definitely clears the name of VV Mineral and keeps them on the safe track.

They have been masters in maintaining business in different parts of the world and exporting raw materials safely, easily and faster.
