Reconnect with nature by adventuring the Shoalhaven’s vast wilderness areas and peaceful waterways. From a quiet paddle to a heart pumping cliff climb, there are so many ways to rewild yourself in nature, and our friendly local guides make it simple. If you’re keen to try something new, here are some tips on where to start.

The Shoalhaven is a world renowned rock climbing destination. Climb Nowra and Outdoor Raw can take you to the best spots for your skill level and provide all the instruction and encouragement you need to guide you safely up a spectacular precipice. Why not book a Cliffnic and sample fresh local produce whilst safely attached to a cliff platform? Dare to climb across wobbly obstacle courses and zoom along ziplines at Trees Adventure, kids and grown ups alike will love it.

Whilst it’s easy to independently enjoy many of our beautiful coastal or mountain walks, the support and knowledge provided by a guide makes for a safer and richer experience. Local guides like Big Nature Adventures can help you navigate and tackle full day hikes like the famous Didthul Pigeon House Mountain (Balgan), or The Castle in Morton National Park. Region X will wow you with their Murramarang Coastal Hike where the kangaroos surf and the pebbles sing - only a local guide can show you those things!

Hire a mountain bike and conquer high quality trails at MUD Mountain Bike Park, ride around the brandnew BMX track at Kangaroo Valley Pump Track or pedal along the SCUM Tracks at Coondoo, Superbowl, Butterfly and Cabbage Tree Lane trails near South Nowra in Currambene State Forest. For the ultimate get back to nature experience, Bluegum Bushcraft helps ‘rewild’ the entire family, reconnecting kids and adults with nature, shelter making, and campfire cooking.

Explore estuaries, rivers, lakes and bays with a water-based tour. Book a surf lesson with one of the Shoalhaven’s many top-notch instructors, including world champion surfer Pam Burridge. Kayak or canoe the epic Shoalhaven River in Kangaroo Valley where operators offer everything from voyages through towering sandstone gorges and the sunken forest, to leisurely paddle trips with local wines and canapés, and everything in between. Further south, take to the blue and enjoy world class kayaking in the crystal clear waters of Jervis Bay with resident dolphins and abundant wildlife surrounding you.

Whilst you’re enjoying the beautiful Shoalhaven, be a conscious traveller and leave only footprints on our unspoilt land. Bring reusable carry bags, water bottles and a keep cup to use at cafés. If you forget, these items can be purchased at our Nowra and Ulladulla Visitor Information Centres. If you’re an electric car owner, welcome! There are electric vehicle charging stations around the region, all of them in beautiful places like Silos Estate, near Berry which has the largest EV charging station in Australia.
