Follow in the footsteps of the ancestors and join Djiriba Waagura on the song line of the whale migration on the burri burri whale walk from Murrays Beach in Booderee National Park. Hear stories of the Country, take part in a traditional smoking ceremony, taste bush food and see the breathtaking views this amazing landscape has to offer. You can also join Djiriba Waagura along the Shoalhaven River for the warigala badha cultural education walk at Mundhamia, home of the red bellied black snake. “Braeden and I find Shoalhaven a great accessible escape. It’s so easy to build your own itinerary at Shoalhaven.com” Julie Jones
Day 2 Day 1
Our dream Shoalhaven trip kicks off early cause we can’t resist a pit stop at the delicious Famous Berry Donut Van, then we head to the “Everyone Can Play” Boongaree nature playground where Braeden can enjoy the zipline, carousel and basket swings. Not far from the heart of Berry, we stock up on locally made sweets and savouries for later, at the industrial barn-style Treat Factory and Dairy Bar which has a great ramp for wheelchair access. We’ve heard so many good things about the new art museum at Bundanon that is fully wheelchair accessible and also has a hearing loop and braille so we check that out too and enjoy a meal at the onsite Ramox Cafe. Then we finish up our day at one of the several ultra-comfy accessible apartments at Quest in Nowra, and have a sunset evening meal on the Shoalhaven River at Ponte Bar and Dining.
Braeden’s favourite adventure is just down the road in Huskisson on Jervis Bay Wild’s Port Venture where there is a custom wheelchair spot on the bow to watch the whales and dolphins. In summer the team love to use their purposebuilt hoist to get him into the boomnet, close to the action! We’ve recently discovered the two new breweries in Huskisson in the industrial estate and love the facilities at Jervis Bay Brewing Co, with open pathways and outdoor areas, great for accessibility, kids, and pets. If we want to get close to the water then we take off along the 4km Round the Bay Track which leads us to Nelson Beach where a recently installed ramp allows Braeden to utilise his beach wheelchair to easily get down to the water and enjoy the view. There is a Changing Places facility right there at Plantation Point and at nearby Vincentia Home&Co Shops. Book the accessible family suite at Holiday Haven Huskisson Beach to spend the night.
Day 3
Before we head home, we love going south to Mollymook and Ulladulla either for the Livvi’s Place Playground or the Brodie Time Walk near the harbour where fossils mark a million years for every metre along an accessible pathway. From May to November we always head up to the Warden Head Lighthouse in Ulladulla which has just been freshly upgraded, and do some whale watching and spot wild flannel flowers nearby. We follow the pilgramage of local surfers heading to Hayden’s Pies, in Ulladulla and enjoy the gourmet down to earth pies along with a coffee. A few hours later we are back home with that Shoalhaven after-glow. We’ll be back again soon!

Blessed with picturesque vistas, Shoalhaven is Australias premier destination for whale watching, promising unparalleled experiences for observing these majestic creatures in their natural habitat. From mountainous backdrops to sparkling coastline, each vantage point in Shoalhaven reveals a symphony of marine life and stunning sunrises and sunsets. Commence at Crookhaven Heads Lighthouse, an historic landmark and ideal spot for observing migrating humpbacks from May to November. Further south near Ulladulla is the recently revamped Warden Head Lighthouse providing sweeping views from Jervis Bay to Bawley Point. On the northern headland of Jervis Bay, atop 80 metre cliffs is Point Perpendicular Lighthouse, and the southern headland of Jervis Bay in Booderee National Park is the ruined and allegedly haunted Cape St George Lighthouse. Besides their historical appeal, a perfect locale for viewing the annual whale migration.
