› OUR APPROACH

For all of our projects we work through a tried and tested process. We always start by getting to know our clients and understanding their needs - their brand; their position in the market place; their visual language and how it’s expressed. This level of understanding is essential when designing original and consistently successful solutions. In order to do this we look at the different elements that are going to be used to build up the visual

language (logo, use of colour, typefaces etc.) and how they will be used throughout communications. Our aim is to gain such an awareness of our clients and their projects that we can simplify the design process, work faster and create fresh designs which are consistently on brand.

When we talk about Identity and Brand Image we are referring to the visual language of elements which are used to communicate a brand. This usually begins with the logo, the most recognisable element of any brand.

We only start to design the branded items when we have a clear understanding of the identity and the visual language. Whether it’s stationery, brochures, newsletters, mailers or websites the identity needs to work in harmony across all areas of communication and the balance of the visual elements needs to be determined correctly.

Designs mean nothing if they can’t be produced accurately and on budget. With every project we undertake one of the first considerations is to sit down with the people who are going to be contracted to produce our designs and see what we can achieve with the production budgets available.

Colour and imagery are another integral part. They can be used to generate impact, define information and actions, create emotive visuals and capture the imagination. Type gives consistency to a brand, so it’s essential to have a clear set of typefaces with defined uses.

We then design initial options to explore different approaches and formats, which we develop further in conjunction with our clients through a series of amendments to produce the final designs.

We structured the design of the website around Bravehearts business. A great part of film production involves investment so the site needed to achieve a balance between attractive movie content and clean, factual information. As an extension of the brand, we needed to create a website design that can take the graphic brand and bring the content to life. And as each film project is an individual investment vehicle, SHO have begun designing their pre-offer brochures. These publications cover all aspects of the film project from story to cast to production, distributed to potential investors.

Business Stationery Direct Mail

› GOOD NEWS PRESS (GNP)

SHO designed the promotional campaign for the Good News Press digital book printing press, which was awarded first place at the 2008 Digital Printer Awards. We’ve designed many things for GNP over recent years like their annual calendar to designers and creatives. This year we created a different typographic treatment for each month, listing each font of interest as a reference for their audience. Everything we design for GNP has to contain this spirit of innovation and

Future Fit approached SHO to redesign their professional fitness industry prospectus, with full diploma and module course details, to be an informative guide to new clients and the hub of their selling activity for employees. SHO also designed the full range of printed and promotional material from DVD’s to course books and stationery/

SHO began working with Bobby Simmonds when the business first started. We initially developed an identity, stationery and a website for the company to begin trading, which expressed the personality of the people who set it up and the products they make. As they grew we extended the identity design and applied it to promotional literature, marketing material and finally the new e-commerce website which is also fully content managed.

The aim of our design for the RCR corporate identity is to express the values and energy of RCR simply and in an engaging way. By off-setting the initials within the icon it creates a sense of movement and progression, to reflect the development of skills that RCR bring to their clients. Colour is also a key element, a bold use of colour to be highly recognisable as well as creating a versatile platform for typographic communications, which can be easily applied to stationery, brochure, marketing and presentation material.

Integer, leaders in industry research and analysis, wanted to create new business campaign to promote their unique products and services to new clients. Working within their established graphic identity, SHO created a campaign which can run across the different industry sectors Integer cater to, around the theme of ‘Seeing Further with Integer’. The creative uses x-ray 16 imagery to illustrate the added depth that Integer data and analysis can deliver compared with their competitors

As retail branding experts ‘i-am’ wanted a website that would be like nothing anyone had seen before. From that starting point, SHO began designing a site that would quite literally look like nothing visitors had seen before. With a bank of over 300 images combining with a variety of animations, we ensured that every time a visitor came to a page of the site it would look different to any other time they had been there before. A very unique solution.

This boutique hotel and restaurant in the French ski resort of La Tania, needed to have their identity, marketing material, stationery, menus, signage and website all designed and produced ready for the start of the season. The website is the main hub of the business with bookings and reservations made online. The easy to use content management system allows the staff to edit and maintain all the useful information on the site while performing all the daily tasks of any business.

Wilberforce Chambers are one of London’s leading barristers’ chambers and long established in Lincoln’s Inn. When they approached SHO initially they were looking to refresh their entire identity and to update all their corporate and promotional literature and online presence. Working through a structured rebrand we designed a complete set of new literature along with a fully content managed website, in a style that’s modern and yet retains the established excellence of the chambers.

SHO designed a completely new identity for capital project management company High-Point Rendel, to refresh their traditional image and bring a new energy to their business communications. From stationery through to advertising and corporate literature the identity also included clear guidelines for easy application and use internally. 24

› FUTURE FLYERS

Future Flyers organise the largest careers fair for students in Oxford and produce numerous career guides on subjects like management consultancy and investment banking. For a number of years SHO has designed the careers event promotional material and brochure, as well as the career guide publications. As a student run organisation we get to work 26 with new people each year and develop new ideas to ensure the design stays fresh.

› BBC & ALEXANDRA PALACE

A marketing pack was commissioned by the BBC and The Alexandra Palace Trust to promote the idea of converting the venue into a new media campus for north London, and bringing a new lease of life to the historic landmark. With the central idea of ‘the birthplace of television’ as a starting point, SHO created a complete pack containing printed brochure, information cards and DVD packaging for the visual presentation.
