Dear Mikey,
please forgive me, for I have shopped again... Hi There Shopping Tribe Can you believe it’s been 1 year since we launched our digital magazine? We can’t. Time sure does fly by when you’re having fun. To celebrate we have teamed up with some of our favorite brands and have a huge giveaway on our Instagram page, so make sure you check it out. We chatted to artist Libby Watkins about the growing success of her business and we can’t thank her enough for the amazing artwork she did for our cover. Hope you love it as much as we do. In this month’s issue we’ve picked some our favorite bum bags, yep this 90’s fashion statement has made a comeback and we couldn’t be happier. Our top picks for this winter’s #musthave, the faux fur jacket. We found a way to shop the outlet sales without leaving the house and Maui chatted to Pete Evans about his new pet food range. Happy Shopping!

LIBBY WATKINS I have been a big fan of Libby Watkins ever since I bought my first piece at Avalon Market Day so many years ago, it was a framed ink palm tree which is still proudly hung in our home. I’ve been following Libby’s career and to see all her hard work pay off makes me so happy. I love that she has extended her art into limited-edition pieces for the home and wardrobe, at affordable prices. I’ve got to know Libby quite well over the years and with all her success Libby is still so humble, which I think contributes to her success. I sat down with Libby to find out how it all started. Libby Watkins began creating in her home studio garage as a young girl. There were many late nights sewing singular fashion styles and painting large statement artworks mainly for friends and family. These early days of creating, fueled an incredible yearning to fuse her creative thoughts together full time and this led to the birth of the Libby Watkins (LW) brand. Her work reflected an island oasis, “Paradiso”, igniting tropical balmy feels and incorporating intoxicating signature brush strokes. In 2015 when her search for bold unique fabrics was unsuccessful she decided it was time to launch a studio print collection with the idea born straight from her studio palette. She used her passion for art and design and a background in fashion design both in Australia and overseas, to create what she had been searching for - a brand that celebrated art, style, colour and texture and rebelled against the predictable and pervading ‘beige’ aesthetic of the time. Inspired by the Australian land and her surrounding coastal “scape” on the Northern Beaches area of Sydney, she assembled a utopia of this in conversational extreme. Her vision was modern with design cues and an injection of Australian art. In the absence of a shop front and a studio to gain exposure, her pieces were originally displayed at local artisan markets. Libby would often encapsulate herself in the home studio and create, create, create to showcase her finest pieces. She focused on new collections to make each public exposure inspirational. Soon pop up galleries followed, with Libby always being mindful of overheads, but trying to remain as focused as possible on her creativity, the artist’s life blood.
7
In 2014 she opened her first gallery at Palm Beach, north of Sydney, Australia the location paying homage to the artist’s roots. The gallery was the launching point for the luxury brand to grow alongside the Libby Watkins ever developing aesthetic. Today, Libby’s works are available online, in galleries globally and fine boutiques in Australia. A trip to New York a few years ago inspired Libby to expand the brand into unique tropical fabric designs for the home and wardrobe. These limited-edition pieces include wallpaper, cushions and handbags which remain unique and especial to the purchaser. The core of the brand will always be signature artworks created by hand in the studio, jungles and botanicals of the most decadent tropical accents. In a world of mass production introduce yourself to Libby’s delightful, bespoke, pieces all etched from the island and designed to take you to a world far away. www.libbywatkins.com

TRIED & TESTED I’ve spoken before about how I struggle getting to sleep and I’m waking up tired all the time. I’ve tried herbal teas; herbal sleeping tablets and I tried a lavender spray which helped me fall asleep but still woke up tired. I am a bit of a night owl and definitely not a morning person, I very rarely wake before the alarm and when my alarm goes off I want to throw it out the window. A friend of mine Fo, who lives in Melbourne told me about Vida Glow Beauty Sleep, she swears by it. I’m willing to try anything.
I gave Beauty Sleep a go. First night I added 1 scoop to water and drank it at around 10pm. I went to bed around 11pm (it doesn’t make you drowsy). I set my alarm for 7am. I woke up in a panic, crap I’ve slept through the alarm. Well, that’s what I thought until I looked at my phone at it said 6.23am. WHAT? I’ve woken up before the alarm, I’m not tired and I said good morning to hubby before having a cup of coffee (not a morning person). I am not kidding when I say this is a first. Second night, I mixed 1 scoop with a little hot water and heated up some almond milk and added to powder. It was a little sweet having it this way, if you have a sweet tooth you will love it, personally I prefer with water. Sorry, should have mentioned the Beauty Sleep flavour is Vanilla Chai. Same thing again, went to bed and woke up before my alarm. I took the Beauty sleep for 5 days then decided not to take it for a couple of days. Guess what I woke up tired and not before the alarm. What I’ve found is when taking Beauty Sleep I’m having a deep peaceful sleep, which is allowing me to wake up not tired and feeling well rested. I am a restless sleeper and I’m a grinder (lucky Mike) so I don’t really get a good rested sleep. I do now, I truly cannot recommend Vida Glow’s Beauty Sleep enough. www.vidaglow.com.au

I’ve been a bit excited to share this review with you. About a month ago Mum and I were invited to the launch of Pete Evan’s new range of pet food called Healthy Everyday Pets. It was being held at North Bondi Surf Club. I really wanted to go but Mum was a bit hesitant, because of my Inflammatory Stomach Disease. My diet is super strict, I’m on prescription food ONLY and steamed veges and medication every day. If I’m fed something that doesn’t agree with me, the pain is excruciating, I start panting and shaking uncontrollably and Mum starts to cry, and she comforts me, so I can understand why she was a bit iffy. After many kisses Mum said we could go. I could see she was nervous. It was a freezing cold day, we rugged up, Mum packed my medication just in case and we left early on Saturday morning to cross the bridge and head to Bondi for breakfast with Pete. I was so excited. We arrived, and the table was set for king and queens, there were waiters serving our food and treats. Mum really needs to pick her game up, none of this bowl on the floor anymore. There was a kissing booth, a play area and dogs everywhere, I made so many new friends. Now time to eat. I snorted the first tasting, then the second and the third. It was so delicious. I could see Mum watching me carefully. If I’m going to have a reaction, it’s normally within 30 minutes. An hour went
by and I was good, great even. I had to find Pete and tell him. He was so lovely, he listened to my story, he patted me and even laughed at my jokes. I cannot tell you how happy I am to have some variety in my diet and that’s healthy too. When we left we were given a giant goody box to take home. Thanks Mum best day ever. Now, I think Mum wants to get serious and say a few things to all the other parents out there. She’s quite passionate and protective so get ready for her rant. Don’t say I didn’t warn you! Maui x

Hi Everyone, Kath here! I’ll give you the short version about Maui’s condition. I cannot prove or claim it’s the cause, but I believe her condition was caused from the RUBBISH food that is being passed as food for our pets to eat. I am furious we have NO pet food regulations here in Australia, it disgusts me, and something must be done about it. The Pet Food industry should be ashamed of themselves. Most of the pet food you buy from the supermarket is the equivalent of feeding your kids McDonalds every day. NOT GOOD. I am going to be making a lot of noise about this soon, I’ll keep you posted. Maui mentioned to you how nervous I was about taking her to this event, she’s right. The pain I see her go through breaks my heart, so I am so strict when it comes to her food. This food is fantastic. The protein is high at 36%, with a claim of being 90% from meat. The fat content in the Athlete formula is 24% which is all animal fats. This pet food has ingredients like alfalfa, beef broth, whole egg (powder), coconut oil, parsley, kelp and kale instead of the junk sugar filled pet food that is available of our shelves. I know I’ve said it already, but it makes me so angry I could cry. Maui is nearly 10 and suffers from joint pain and arthritis. To know that this food has marine fish oil and green lipped mussels both being great sources of omegas which is great for joint issues.
34
This is not an ad, I’m just very thankful that someone, being Pete, is so passionate about our pet’s wellbeing. It makes me happy that after 2 years I can finally feed Maui something else other than her prescription dog food which by the way costs $70 for a 3kg bag and I can buy a 6kg bag from Healthy Everyday Pets for $75. Not that price matters, I would pay anything for my girl’s health. Thanks Pete, it’s about time someone shook up the industry!
