No, I think not.” The widower walked to the door and got ready to go home. There he said, “If I could find a preacher who would deliver a short sermon at my dog’s grave, I would give him $200.00.” At that, the preacher opened his eyes wide and said, “Well, why didn’t you tell me that the dog is Lutheran?!” *** En Bleed Schpariger Es waar en Kall as wunderbaar bleed waar un doch hett er gegliche fer en Maedel hawwe. I don’t know how to ask.” Then his friend said, “You don’t ask for a kiss. This is the way one does it. You go to her home. Then talk a while. When you are ready to go home, go to the door. Then say, ‘I had a most enjoyable time this evening.’ When she comes closer, bend down and say, ‘I have to go home.’ When she comes closer, give her a kiss on the forehead. This is the way that one begins a courtship.” So the shy fellow thought to himself. “This I’ll try out next Saturday night.” The following Saturday night, he went to her home and they sat for a while and talked. After a while he took out his watch and said, “Oh my! It got late early. I have to get up early tomorrow morning. I must go to church. I think I’ll go home now. But all of a sudden he became very nervous. He went to the door. There he said, “I had a most pleasurable time this evening.” She came close to him. He leaned down and planted a big kiss on her forehead. Then she said, “Oh, John! Oh, John! A little bit lower!” Then in the softest voice possible he said, “I had a wonderfully good time this evening.” *** This is the second in a series of three columns in which Dave Hornberger is sharing stories with us which he heard over the cracker barrel years ago, and in his words “specially vum Lewengut, der Poschtmeeschder vun Kleinfelderswill.” Tune in next week for the final story in this series. Again a hearty salute to “Daafid Harnbariyer vun de Keenichschtrooss in Effredaa!” September 18, 1985 En bleed BischliGnippli

Junior Hannah Bruce, daughter of Amy and Alfred Bruce, is already so involved in this school and it is only her junior year. She is currently taking AP Language and Composition, Civics and Government, Choir 2, and Honors Precalculus and Trigonometry. Next semester she will be taking Physics, Journalism, German 3, and Introduction to Forensics. On top of this vigorous course load, she is involved in Choir, Band, Choralaires, Chamber Choir, NHS, and Global Scholars. She is especially proud of her position as treasurer in the Tri-M Honor Society, her position as Senior Class President, and her role as Sergeant at Arms in Student Government, along with being on the varsity tennis team. While juggling all of this, Hannah has sustained over a 4.0 GPA during her entire school career. In her scarce free time, Hannah does many things outside of school. She currently has a job at Boehringer’s Drive-In, and when she is not there, she is playing with her dog Penelope. She also has played piano since she was 2.5 years old; this love of music led her to enjoy her favorite band, Greta Van Fleet. She is fond of their songs “Heat Above” and “Age of Man.” In one of their songs, “Broken Bells,” they sing, “When out of silence we will sing, and even broken bells will ring.” This resonates with her because she says, “Basically this part means that bad things are going to happen but a lot of the time, they happen for a reason and you can learn from them. Also, that even if you’re broken, you’ll be okay and fulfill your potential.” Hannah is not sure what she plans on doing after high school, but she does hope to travel to Venice, Italy. Lititz Christian School Jerry Jing

Senior Jerry Jing is a kind-hearted, selfless individual who shines as bright as a vibrant and colorful beacon to inspire those that gaze upon his kindness and joy to the world. The sheer perfection that emanates from his body leads those to aspire to work harder to achieve their goals. Jerry is proud to be associated with Lititz Christian for many reasons. Jerry’s favorite reason to go to Lititz Christian is because of the people who go there, so he can learn and have fun throughout the day. Jerry’s hobbies consist of basketball and soccer because he loves to play sports with his friends. Since Jerry liked playing sports so much, he decided to play soccer and basketball for his school. Jerry loves history class out of any other class because of his teacher’s ability to teach the subject extraordinarily, but he also likes math. After high school, Jerry plans on going to college, but he doesn’t know which one to go to just yet. Jerry attends church at LEFC in Lititz. Jerry’s greatest accomplishment is getting accepted into the National Honors Society. In his spare time, Jerry likes to take a nap to stay relaxed and unstressed. In conclusion, Jerry loves sports and physical activities. Next, he loves to stay relaxed and rested so as not to be exhausted or overworked. Then, he likes history as well as math class. THIS WEEK’S

Biblical Message

He will complete it. Author: Wenger Philippians 1:4 - “Being confident of this very thing; that He who has begun a good work in you will complete it until the day of Jesus Christ.” Have you ever known someone who starts projects and doesn’t finish, or it goes on so long it takes years because they just can’t get motivated to finish it? I am

glad God doesn’t work that way. He always finishes what He starts. God starts a good work in you the same moment you believe on the Lord Jesus Christ as your Savior. There are many transactions that occur at that moment of salvation. It is sad, but often Christians don’t understand and/or fully appreciate these great truths. Space won’t allow enumeration of a complete list of transactions that take place, but the major ones are as follows. I would encourage you to take your Bible and examine these verses. We are justified (declared righteous) (Rom. 3:23-28), we become children of God (1 John 3:1-2), we are baptized

or placed into the body of Christ the church (1 Corinthians 12:13), we are forgiven (Ephesians 1:7), we are sealed by the Holy Spirit (Ephesians 4:30), we are Indwelt by the Holy

Spirit (1 Corinthians 6:1920), we have an eternal relationship with God (Ephesians 2:13), The power of the sin nature is broken (Romans 6:10-14), We cannot be condemned…

ever (Romans 8:1-3, and We have eternal life now (1 John 5:12-13). There are many more benefits that occur at salvation. These truths have to do with your position in Christ. In other words, these transactions are once for all…they take place at salvation and are irrevocable, they cannot be changed and do not depend on your everyday living or your condition. All of these benefits are a down payment if you will, and He (Christ) will make good on payment in full. He began this work in every believer, and He will complete it. The position/condition of the believer is where the confusion lies. As a Christian, you look at

your everyday life and say yes but, I don’t feel very righteous, I don’t feel saved. Feelings can be misleading. You must trust in facts. The railroad illustrates this well: the train’s engine represents the facts of God’s word; the caboose is our feelings. The engine drives the train and the caboose is just along for the ride. We are not to rely on feelings but trust facts (what God declares in His word). Our daily condition doesn’t match our position in Christ. This process of becoming what we already are is called sanctification. Positional truth takes place at once, instantaneously at the moment of salvation; our growth in Christ takes time and is a daily process.

Students Take Trip On Polar Express

Ephrata Library Programs

A verse that illustrates this is Galatians 2:20, “I am crucified with Christ nevertheless I live; yet not I, but Christ lives in me: and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by the faith of the Son of God.” In a positional sense, Paul was crucified when Christ died on the cross. That’s our position. When Paul says, “the life I now live I live by faith” that is our condition or daily living. Doubt and disillusionment often have their roots in the believer’s ignorance of these great doctrines. It is our responsibility as a believer to study and know these doctrines. How can you walk in truth that you don’t know and understand? So it’s not that our daily life is of no concern, but that our daily life reflects who we already are. So, although our daily living may need a lot of Devine attention, don’t despair. He that began this work will continue and will complete it. Do we think that the God who by his word spoke the entire universe into existence would not be able to bring to completion the work He begins in a believer? Live what we already are. He…Christ will complete what he started.
