The Friendly Circle Meeting
The Friendly Circle held its August meeting on Tuesday, August 8, at Akron Community Church. President John Rice welcomed everyone and conducted the meeting.
Nancy Forry and Anna Mae Pickell greeted 59 members and three guests to the meeting. The theme song “The More We Get Together” was sung followed by The Pledge of Allegiance and “God Bless America.”
Accompanied by Gladys Horvath on the piano, they also sang ”In the Garden” and “Home on the Range.”
President Rice asked for a moment of silence for members deceased since March 2023: Doris Hartman, June Garner, Mary Lefever,
Betsie Lienbach and Samuel Sherk.
The devotional leader was Pastor Scott Brubaker from Swamp Lutheran Church, Reinholds. Pastor Scott’s meditation was from Matthew 14 on John’s beheading and the miracle of “Feeding of the Five Thousand.” People followed Jesus just like they followed Moses through the wilderness, “Making a way out of no way.” Jesus told the disciples to feed the people with only five loaves and two fish after he blessed them, and all the people were fed. This is how people should live, by living generously. God intervenes to provide He makes a way out of no way. When people are suffering, open your hearts to others and show compassion to those who are suffering in mind, body and spirit. If nothing is broken,
