Besides his wife, he is survived by two daughters: Lisa A. Billiter, Lititz, and Anita K. Auge, Reading; five grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.

Horst G. Berendt, 89, Denver, passed away on Monday, August 7.

He was the husband of the late Dolly Berendt (nee Gerhart).

He is survived by a son, Erich, husband of Kym, New York, New York; a daughter, Linda L. Cubic, Ephrata; one grandchild; and two sisters: Rosi and Evi, and their families in Germany.

Robert E. “Bob” Gutshall Sr., 86, husband of Karen L. Carnahan Gutshall, Lititz, passed away on Tuesday, August 8.

The Denver-Ephrata Area Rotary Club recently recognized Hailey Haldeman of Stevens as a Cocalico High School Student of the Month. Hailey is the daughter of Glenn and Tammy Haldeman. She graduated from Cocalico High School where she challenged herself in academics. She was a member of the National

Honor Society, Symphonic Band, and Co-Leader of the Environmental Club. She has received numerous honors and awards including AP Scholar, 4.0 Honor Roll, and Student of the Month from the Business, Math, English and Science Departments. She volunteers with the Denver-Ephrata Rotary Club at the Denver

Fair, Reamstown Days as a game attendant and a Denver auction runner. Hailey’s future plans are to attend Millersville University to obtain a Bachelor’s degree in computer science to become a software developer or an engineer.

Ephrata Fair Volunteer Opportunities

A drop-in meeting for volunteers will be held from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Tuesday, August 22 at the fair building, 19 South State Street, Ephrata.

A variety of volunteer positions are available for all ages and skill sets. The fair needs laborers to help with setup and cleanup before, during and after the fair.

Some positions require physical mobility while others can be performed while sitting. Skills needed vary from being an extra pair of hands for assisting, to clerical work requiring some computer knowledge. Morning to evening there are jobs to do.

All volunteers will receive on-the-job training. Fair committee members will work with you to help get the job done. The fair provides any equipment and tools necessary to accomplish the tasks.

Fair committee members will be available at the drop-in meeting to answer questions and guide you to a successful volunteer experience. They need your help to have a successful fair this year.

Anyone who would like to volunteer, but cannot attend the meeting, can call Elaine at 717-733-4451 ext. 1890.

He was the husband of the late Joanne C. Loose Gutshall.

He is survived by a son, Robert E. Gutshall Jr., Ephrata; three daughters: Deborah Ann, wife of Michael Timm, Reinholds; Donna M. Gutshall, Mount Joy; and Judith A., wife of Ronald Good, Lititz; a stepson, Steve, husband of Toni Puciato, Catonsville, Maryland; a stepdaughter, April, wife of Tim Discoll, Taneytown, Maryland; ten grandchildren; 23 greatgrandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; and a sister, Beverly, wife of Keith Persun, Manheim.

He was preceded in death by a son, Kenneth S. Gutshall, and a great-grandchild.

Julie Faith Hoover, daughter of Mahlon H. Jr. and Janet M. (Weaver) Hoover, Ephrata, was stillborn on Tuesday, August 8.

Besides her parents, she is survived by two brothers: Jaydon and Jared Hoover, both at home; a sister, Jenna Hoover, at home; grandparents: Mahlon and Martha (Martin) Hoover, Ephrata, and Titus and Martha (Martin) Weaver, Terre Hill; and great-grandmother, Mary Z. (Martin) Martin, New Holland.
