Don’t Age Alone...

Join 125 Live Today If you are breathing, you are aging. At 125 LIVE in Rochester, the goal is to make sure no one from 18 years and up ages in a silo. Every adult can benefit from exercise and fitness programs to social clubs, games and programs in arts.

125 ELTON HILLS DR. NW, ROCHESTER | (507)287-1404

“At 125 LIVE, we offer something for every dimension of wellness for active adults,” says Operations Director Ken Baerg. “We want someone in their 20s to prepare and be healthy in their 40s. We want someone in their 40s to grow and be ready for the 60s. We want those in their 70s and 80s to be fit physically, mentally and spiritually.”

125LIVEMN.ORG | INFO@125LIVEMN.ORG

Exercise and fitness General fitness training programs are offered daily. The programs can range from personal sessions to group classes taught by instructors that are trained to teach all ages. For those needing more specialized services, Baerg said 125 LIVE is now offering classes to address

Some programs offered include:

medical needs. Currently, 125 LIVE offers exercise

• Yoga & Meditation

expanding to offer specialized classes for Diabetes

• Cardio

and Cancer patients.

• Zumba • Pickleball • Ping Pong • Boxing • Tai Chi • Dance • Cardio Drumming

programs for Parkinson’s patients and plenty of heart-healthy options. In the future, 125 LIVE will be

“We

instructors that focus on the functional treatment for members,” Baerg said. “Through exercise programs, medical patients walk more, move better, speak louder and become more functional in their daily lives.” To see a schedule of classes and programs, visit the 125 LIVE website at 125livemn.org.

125 ELTON HILLS DR. NW, ROCHESTER | (507)287-1404

Warm Water Pool Another amenity in the 125 LIVE membership is the warm-water pool. Using a warm water pool can be a good resource for those suffering from arthritis, or for light exercise for those with balance issues.

“With a warm-water pool, the water lowers the weight burden and allows you to move around and get the joints going,” said Baerg. “In a warm-water pool if you fall, you really only risk getting your hair wet.”

Exercising in a warm-water pool also aids in rehabilitating injuries by repeating movements with slight resistance and ultimately building muscle memory. Besides personal use, there are swim instructors available for group & private lessons/classes.

Social Programs Sometimes it’s tough to get out of your shell, but with 125 LIVE’s social programs, no one has to age alone. There is something for everyone. Games, group classes and clubs, tournaments and so much more is offered daily at the center. As an example, 125 LIVE is home to the Castle Quilters Club. Members have come together to make quilts as a hobby, but also to give back to the community. Quilts are made and often donated to homeless and women’s shelters. Other social programs include: • Open art studio • Billiards Rooms • Computer lab • Pickleball, ping pong and dancing

Become a Member 125 LIVE provides the services and facilities to allow adults to embark on their own journey to “aging successfully.” To become a member of 125 LIVE, arrange a tour, or get more information, visit the website at 125livemn.org.

Varicose veins – Why they happen and what to do When you’re young, scientists describe veins as being nice and elastic like rubber bands. However, as we age, our veins become stiffer and lead to issues such as spider veins and varicose veins. As much as we hate how they look, varicose veins are just a common part of aging, but not something we have to live with. For most, these veins can just be a cosmetic concern, but there are a number of reasons you shouldn’t ignore them completely. Reasons to seek treatment include: • Discomfort: Many diagnosed with varicose veins complain of burning or throbbing sensations or even swelling in the infected area. • Limited physical activity: If you find ourself wanting to exercise less, or the discomfort limits your ability for hiking, cycling and fun – it may be time to talk to the doc. • Blood Clots: With the veins not operating at 100 percent, there is an increased chance blood clots can form. In this case you may need to wait for treatment, but it will be needed. When it comes to treating varicose veins, at one time the only option was surgery. Not the case anymore. There are plenty of local companies that provide minimally-invasive options without a complicated and painful recovery. By: Thelma Grimes
