RELIEVE JOINT PAIN AND BEAT BOOMERITIS A wave of boomeritis continues hitting Baby Boomers hard these days. But don’t be fooled by the catchy name, boomeritis is not welcome to the active senior because it means there’s a problem in the joints. Boomeritis is a term coined by doctors because like everything, Baby Boomers have earned enough respect to get their own medical terms. Boomeritis is a broad range of bone and joint ailments, including tendonitis, bursitis and arthritis. For the active senior, boomeritis can put a damper on biking, hiking and schooling Gen Xers in a game of pickleball. Some tips to deal with boomeritis includes: • Massage: Getting a regular massage can reduce muscle tension and stiffness, promote flexible joint movement and improves blood flow. • See a chiropractor: Regular visits to the chiropractor can reduce joint restrictions, inflammation and promote proper spine positioning. • Practice healthy habits: Besides eating right and drinking plenty of water, the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons stresses that boomers must do proper warm up before exercising, and proper cool down after. • Listen to your body: As most regular care physicians will stress, it’s important to listen to what your body is telling you.
