Chair Standards

Ergonomics

Compact Chair Considerations

• Backrest must withstand a force for one minute • Chair must withstand a heavy bag dropped on it • Chair must withstand a heavy bag set in center of seat for 100,000 cycles, then 20,000 cycles on each corner • Load test acting as someone leaning on backrest and must not tip over • Load test on front edge of seat and not tip over • Arm rest must with stand both vertical and horizontal force for one minute • Legs must withstand horizontal load on front leg • Seat depth of 15-18” recommended for adults • Back height of 12-16” above seat “ideal”

• Ergonomic chairs can be categorized into four parts: seat height adjustment, the backrest adjustment, armrest adjustment and others • Most ergonomic chairs height adjusters range from 380mm to 530mm from the floor • Backrest should be able to adjust vertically and horizontally • Backrest should sit below shoulder level • Seat Depth between 16.9” - 21.1” to account for 5th and 95th percentile of men and women • Seat back should keep back straight • Seat height to be appropriate and comfortable for position of knees.

• Able to store together to reduce space. • Used to maximize space and create touch down space. •Less material often results in cheaper price point. • May include removable padding, stretchable elastic cord or fabric, or snapping piece to allow for easy travel and packing. • Camp stool should be no smaller than 10”x10” • Slope of seat front to rear 5° to 8° (3/4” to 1” drop) • Seat back recline angle 0°-5° (formal); 10°-15° (casual)
