BIOGRAPHY 20+ years as an Art Director makes the difference in my photography. You can learn the core skills as a photographer, but it’s having that great eye that really matters. I was lucky to work with many great photographers, and was smart enough to pay attention. It also taught me how to work with people, how to connect and put my subjects at ease, and how to get the job done! I’ve been fortunate to have much recognition for my work over the last few years, and hope this leads to more commissioned work, especially political and socially aware portraits. As it’s a subject very close to me, I have started a portrait series of adults with from Cystic Fibrosis. Some published and awards: • Shortlisted - 2014 Professional Photographer of the Year competition (UK) • Finalist: Shoot The Face Oct. 2014 • Getty Images photographer (200+ images) • Feature article - Professional Photographer UK (Aug.2014) • Shoot Me magazine - feature editorial (Oct. 2014) • Veux Magazine - Feature editorial (July 2014) • ACF Magazine - issues 10 and 11 • Feature article - DPReview • PH Magazine #31 - feature • SEE.me finalist • World of Photography • Vogue Italia (21 images)

the defective gene. CF affects the lungs and pancreas, and calls for multiple daily treatments.
Over 6 months, 25 cities and 6,000 miles around North America to complete - the book aims to shine a new light on what was once considered a “childhood disease, Cystic Fibrosis. Today, about 70,000 people worldwide have CF, a genetic, fatal disease that is only passed along through both parents being carriers of
Right now over half the CF population is over the age of 18. Hope for a cure might still be a ways off, but hope for a better future is already upon us. That is what this book aims to show. It is a testament to the will and spirit of the people that have to live with this on a daily basis, and in their own words describe their trials and tribulations.

BIOGRAPHY Adrian Mirgos, 1989, Poland. He lives in a small village near Warsaw. His fascination with photography and design started a few years ago. In the meantime he finished two schools in Warsaw - photography at the European Academy of Photography (2012) and motion graphics at the Active Art Study of Theater and Film Techniques (2010). After some unpaid projects in 2011 he gave up a job as a graphic designer and set his goal to practice and develop in black and white photography. Adrian got several awards: nomination to the Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year 2014, 6 medals in the International Photo Awards, video exhibition during Visa Pour L’Image. In early 2013, Adrian after being unemployed for a few months, he decided to devote his free time and do something new: Vieworld B&W Photo Magazine. He created the logo, website, fanpage, all corporate identity. Adrian is responsible for everything here – including photo editing. Currently every issue reads a minimum of 2000 people from all over the world. In the future he would like to show Vieworld on the paper and through this magazine teach people why and how to make photo editing. His the biggest photo project he realizes during the Woodstock Festival - one of the biggest music festivals in the world which takes place in Kostrzyn over Oder in Poland. One of the factors which determined presentation of the festival on photography was a documentary shown in one of the TV channels which was edited in a way to show the festival as one of the worst places, where only bad things happen. Originally it was supposed to be a one-time project in 2010. Over the next few months he decided that it will be several-year project which will end probably in 2015. In the future he would like to show this project in the book publication. Obviously, it involves high costs, so it will have to probably wait a long time.
37
LUCID DREAM Woodstock Festival always had followers and opponents. He hopes that by showing this series, at least some people will see that even though hundreds of thousands of people are having fun in one place you can still be sure about your safety. Originally it was supposed to be a
one-time project in 2010. Over the next few months he decided that it will be several-year project which will end probably in 2015. Every year he tries to create a separate photo series, so that on one hand all of them can be summarized in one series, and on the other, each individual series will show something else.
Photos from Woodstock were awarded several times: IPA International Photography Awards (US) - Deeper Perspective Photographer of the Year - nomination top6 / 2014 - 1x Gold, 2x Silver, 2x Bronze medals / 2012-2014 Fotovisura Grant 2014 - Finalist Projekt Przetwórnia (PL) - Finalist top9 / 2012 Visa Pour L’Image (FR) - Few photos were presented during Counter-Culture Evening / 2013

FREESTYLERS - STREET TALENTS This project or concept, gathers three passions of photographer Susana Luzir: Photography, lighting and the human talent of people often unknown by society, for the most part, athletes who train on the street or in conditions far from ideal, but that reaches a level of high performance, able to take pictures with great visual impact, and for the most part, difficult execution technique for both.
While each person is different, each photograph produced contains very own characteristics and specific style of Susana Luzir. These characteristics or patterns, are: colors, contrasts, lighting, composition and cleaning of each image. More images of this project can be seen on its official website: www.susanaluzir.com

BIOGRAPHY My name is Raquel, I‘m a photography lover. I’m self-taught and don’t like think too much about technical facts in photography. “Maradores” it a personal work I wanted to do, but finally the government of “La Oliva - Fuerteventura”, wanted to include it on the “Feria de Fotografia de Fuerteventura 2014” so I had to developed it too fast to have it ready for it. I did it in two mornings, shooting to the people at the village of “El Cotillo” - a little village on north Fuerteventura - “Maradores” is an imaginary word - moradores & mar - because of the close relationship between the people who leave at this village and the sea.

BIOGRAPHY Andrey Kels was born in Siberia. I am very grateful to my parents for the fact that in 14 years they introduced me to the wonderful world of photography, taught to show the film and print your own photos and gave first camera FED-3. But with the advent of digital technology has changed all very much, you can shoot more, the result could be seen immediately. Photo - it’s not a professional activity, the main work is a completely different plane. Photo allows you to create and share wonderful things. Most like to shoot photos in nature and nudity, as it is a natural and living beauty. In nude photos I try to show beautiful and strong women with erotic side. Most like to shoot outdoors, in the fields, forests, mountains and the sea, it allows you to convey the beauty of the female body, combined with the beauty of nature, I think it’s more than just a live photo photo studio. Really enjoy working with black and white photograph in the nude, it betrays a certain charm and atmosphere of the shot, without distracting the viewer. Really like to try new styles and trends shooting, shock and surprise the audience.

AUTHOR OF THE MONTH ALEX TIMMERMANS HOLLAND

92
BIOGRAPHY Alex Timmermans never imagined that a photographic process, which has been invented by Archer more than 160 years ago, was going to have such an influence on his passion for photography. Alex Timmermans, born in 1962, is a self-taught photographer with a strong liking for ancient photographic techniques. He practiced photography throughout his whole life, starting with a Nikormat ftn. The change from analog to digital seemed to be a logical step. However, the excitement and magic of films got lost during this change; “everything became more predictable…too predictable”. Working on the wet plate process made photography inspiring again. Being able to use antique camera’s and brass lenses with a glorious photographic history like Dallmeyer, Hermagis and Darlot. It is pure because of the possibility to use ‘simple’ chemicals to reproduce amazingly detailed pictures. In this photographic process, coincidences will greatly influence the result. Apart from working with chemicals, these coincidences can be caused by the many different weather conditions as well. In general, shooting a single plate takes about one hour or sometimes even longer. Most of this time is consumed by setting up the lighting, pose and the positioning of the camera. Apart from this, there is no possibility to prepare plates in advance. So - to make just one single picture - you will have to go through the whole process: cleaning the glass, pouring the plate with collodion, sensitize, exposure, developing, washing, fixing, washing it again and finally varnishing. However, seeing the picture changing in the fixer bath - from a negative into a positive - is a magic spectacle which makes it worthwhile to spend so much time and energy on it. Doing this outdoors means you will have to take everything with you, including a mobile darkroom, home-made chemicals etc. A fully loaded wagon. Alex has succeeded throughout the years to collect a few original studio and field cameras with a formats up to 24x 24” but he prefers to use this 12x12” camera for his outdoor “storytelling”work. Moreover, throughout the years, he has collected a priceless collection of antique lenses. Mainly Petzval type lenses are the lenses he prefers to use. The characteristics of a Petzval lens is that it produces extremely sharp images in the centre and becomes softer going outwards. More information about his work and this fascinating process can be found on Alex’s website: www.alextimmermans.com The work from his Story telling series is being sold by several galleries in Europe and the USA. You can’t get any closer to a photographic process itself while working on wet plate photography.Collodium photography is not only a kind of photography. It is a passion as well! 93
Quote from LOMOGRAPHY Photography has progressed into a myriad of processes and genres but there are still some people who passionately create imagery using the traditional tools that started it all. Photographer Alex Timmermans is one of those them. See his wet collodion photographs after the jump. Shifting weather, varying amounts of chemicals and even the slightest change in lighting can affect the outcome of wet collodion photography. Wet plate photographer Alex Timmermans understands all of these things and still pursues the labor-intensive photography process with passion and commitment. Timmermans transforms would-be normal scenes into vintage-looking imagery that pay homage to the early photography processes of old. The photographer spends hours creating images by mixing the right amount of chemicals, developing plate after plate to create the final image. All of these are done to produce a single image and Timmermans is more than fine with that. Timmermans’ work is a visual treat and that exhibits an imaginative take on contemporary portrait photography. With the various advancements in technology, photography gear and processes, seeing Timmerman’s “fresh” take on modern-day photography is soothing to the eyes. Each wet plate photograph also gives a proud salute to the dedicated photographers of the past. Quote from PETAPIXEL From portraits to surreal scenes that feel as if they were pulled out of some long-lost storybook, the wet plate collodion photography of Alex Timmermans is unlike any we’ve seen or featured before. Many wet plate photographers prefer to work from their studios, where they have more control over the exposure they are so painstakingly creating, but time and again
94
we’ve seen that some of the most spectacular results come from taking these age-old processes out into the world where their cumbersome nature goes against every trend in photography today. We saw this earlier in the week with the week when we featured the wet plate street photography of Jonathan Keys, and we see it again today with the wonderfully surreal work of self-taught Dutch photographer Alex Timmermans: As you might imagine, given his chosen medium, Timmermans doesn’t really care for digital photography. Speaking of the transition from film to digital, he says, “everything became more predictable…too predictable.” By comparison, wet plate collodion photography is the antithesis to ‘predictability.’ Little twists of fate, chemistry and even weather often lead to surprising results, and this element of serendipity delights Timmermans as much today as it did the first time he took a wet plate photograph. Quote from MY MODERN MET Self-taught photographer Alex Timmermans has been practicing photography his entire life. Over the course of his career, tons of digital equipment has become readily available. However, the artist finds that he prefers working in traditional photographic techniques—particularly the wet collodion process. Through this approach to photography, Timmermans produces portraits and fine art photographs filled with strange and surreal elements that suggest a variety of interesting narratives. The Dutch photographer enjoys the very traditional and purposeful approach to photography. It can take a full hour to produce a single composition and there are many uncontrollable elements, including slight differences in chemicals or changing weather, that can result in unexpected surprises. “Seeing a picture changing in the fixer bath—from a negative to a positive—is a magic spectacle which makes it worthwhile to spend so much time and energy on it,” explains Timmermans.
