Ten Buck knife models can be customized to individual preference, with selections ranging from steel to handle materials. Accuracy begins with the barrel.
he Bergara B-14 rifle launched in 2014, hence the model number B-14. It’s the rifle that truly put Bergara (a division of BPI Outdoors) on the map. Before that launch, the Spanish manufacturer was mainly known as a barrel maker, most notably for CVA’s line of muzzleloaders. Those barrels gave CVA muzzleloaders a well-deserved reputation for accuracy. Such acclaim taught the company just how important barrels were to a rifle’s overall accuracy and performance. The next step was the formation of Bergara Barrels in 2006, a step that allowed the manufacturer to expand into the production of centerfire rifle barrels.
At this point, Bergara tapped Ed Shilen, of Shilen Barrels fame, as a consultant to ensure the barrels coming out of Spain consistently printed tiny groups. Major gun manufacturers were soon lining up to take orders of Bergara barrels for their guns. By 2012 Bergara decided to test-build their own rifles and launched Bergara Custom Rifles. From the start, Bergara’s custom rifles were a hit with hunters and shooters. It only made sense to design their own action and start offering quality rifles with the Bergara reputation for accuracy to the masses.
The B-14 action was introduced in 2014 and is based on an enhanced Remington 700 action. What this means is the B-14 uses any stock, trigger, or scope mount compatible with the Remington 700. By going this route Bergara didn’t have to reinvent the wheel; using the same footprint as the Model 700 allowed Bergara to capitalize on the huge variety of Model 700 aftermarket parts. Timing is everything, they say, and as Remington teetered into bankruptcy, an enormous door of opportunity opened for Bergara. They did what Remington should have done years earlier and evolved the 700 action while still keeping to a reasonable the price point. The rest, as they say, is history.
The B-14 series gives you a lot for your money, but doesn’t require you to spend a lot of money. The B-14 Wilderness line is a good example of what Bergara offers. Consisting of seven models, these are no-nonsense performers built to withstand the rigors of backcountry hunting (SRP: $969-$1,749.) The B-14 HMR Carbon Wilderness has a synthetic stock and carbon-fiber barrel. The HMR stock, designed by Bergara, features a mini chassis embedded in a synthetic stock with adjustable length of pull and cheek riser. These rifles feature hand-painted stocks and premium Cerakote metal finishing. They also feature a threaded barrel and an omnidirectional muzzle brake.
Some Wilderness series rifles feature Bergara’s CURE carbon-fiber barrel. This came out a few years ago and uses a manufacturing process that differs from epoxy carbon and carbon sleeve barrels. Instead, the CURE uses a fine mesh of stainless steel to dissipate barrel heat, which is a problem for some carbon-fiber barrel manufacturers. The stainless strands in the carbon fiber conduct heat away from the chamber and down the barrel to more efficiently dissipate heat.
If you want a lightweight rifle, the B-14 Squared Crest Carbon rifle weighs 6.2 to 6.5 pounds, depending on the caliber. The Crest Carbon is born from a stock crafted entirely in carbon fiber with an internal spine making it the pinnacle of strength and rigidity.
This 100-percent carbon-fiber stock is designed with industry-leading technologies to withstand anything you throw at it.
The B-14 action became so successful it spawned a number of other Bergara rifle families, some of which sell at the other end of the price spectrum. The Premier series, for example, consists of handbuilt production rifles designed for tactical, hunting, and competition shooting. Although B-14 rifles are manufactured in Spain and undergo quality control in Bergara’s facility in Georgia, Premier series rifles are completely built in Georgia by former USMC gunsmiths with actions made in Georgia and barrel blanks from Spain. Given their precision, they carry a higher price, starting at $1,749.
The big news this year is Bergara is offering Premier barreled actions (short and long) so customers can build their own rifle. SRP: $899.99. Premier barreled actions come in a variety of popular calibers, lengths, and tapers. Even Bergara’s CURE carbon-fiber barrel is being offered. SRP: $1,200 to $1599.99, depending on barrel style.
Another recent success with Bergara has been with the rimfire rifle line. The BMR (Bergara Mirco Rifle) bolt-action is popular with small-game hunters and shooters and is priced to be used in NRL22 competitions.
“There have been several factors that have contributed to the success of the Bergara B-14 line of rifles,” says Chad Schearer, Bergara’s director of advertising and media relations. “When Bergara launched the B-14, we focused on a style of rifle that had been proven and around for many years. Known for renowned barrels and actions, Bergara knew we could deliver an exceptional rifle with a good price point. Bergara also added innovation and features that other brands weren’t focusing on at the time. Bergara knew that to succeed with the B-14 line it was going to be important to deliver quality that wasn’t previously produced at that price point. Ten years down, the road Bergara continues to focus on what was important when the B-14 was introduced, and we continue to develop other models in this great line. It’s the people at Bergara who make the difference.”
That last line echoes an early Bergara tag line: “Our barrels make the difference.” What was true then is true today.

he political landscape is changing in Washington, D.C., in 2025 for the better for the firearm industry and those who revere the Constitution, especially Second Amendment rights. Presidentelect Donald Trump will return to The White House, having won both the popular vote and a large Electoral College margin, and will have Republican majorities in the U.S. House of Representatives and U.S. Senate for at least the next two years.
But that’s not the only good news ahead for the firearm industry in 2025, though. Election returns in several states have provided a boost for pro-Second Amendment supporters and appear to show voters pushed back on overreaching gun control governors and anti-industry majorities in some Blue states that are usually hostile toward lawful gun ownership.
Even with President-elect Trump’s victory and eminent return to The White House, governors are scrambling to “Trump-proof” their states before he is officially sworn in. They recognize the political shift at home in their respective states might make pushing an anti-gun agenda even more difficult.
One of the biggest developments occurred in The Wolverine State. Michigan Democratic Gov. Gretchen Whitmer has been a staunch gun-control supporter during her first term as the state’s top executive. In 2022, Democrats won sizable majorities in both the state House and Senate, giving Gov. Whitmer a trifecta and marking the first time a single party controlled all state government in 40 years. For the final two years of her eligibility to act as governor, though, she’ll be severely hampered in pushing through even more gun control.
That’s because Republicans flipped at least four seats on Election Day and retook the majority in the Michigan House of Representatives. There are still two races that have yet to be called that could push their margin higher. The results couldn’t have come at a better time.
During her early tenure, Gov. Whitmer was a constant combatant against the lawful firearm industry, going so far as to brag about shutting down Michigan firearm businesses and putting 6,600 Michiganders out of work in doing so, deeming them “non-essential” during the Covid pandemic.
“I would do it again. I absolutely stand by the decision that I made,” Gov. Whitmer said. “I’m not going to apologize. And I’m not going to be bullied into doing things differently. It was very clear, the purchase of a gun does not fall in that [life-sustaining] criteria.”
Last year, she signed into law universal background checks and instituted mandatory firearm storage requirements as part of a six-bill gun control package. Gov. Whitmer also supports reinstating the failed 1994 Assault Weapons Ban and gun control grab bag favorites like “red flag” laws that deny due process to the accused, closing loopholes that are in fact just the Second Amendment, and more. There’s just one problem keeping her from getting her way—voters.
“I can’t just change these laws on my own,” Gov. Whitmer said. “I need a legislature to work with me. I don’t have a legislature that is very friendly when it comes to working on this issue.”
Fortunately for Michiganders that value the Constitution and Second Amendment rights, voters did speak and they rejected that agenda in a big way. The new Republican majority puts a stop to almost all likely gun control bills while forcing her to tack to the middle ground over the next two years.
Republican Gov. Joe Lombardo has spent his first term with a Democratic-controlled state legislature, both in the General Assembly and the Senate. Democrats were salivating over the prospects of winning veto-proof supermajorities on Election Day but that failed to come to fruition.
After the election dust settled, Republicans prevented supermajorities in both chambers of the legislature after winning 15 seats in the 42-member Assembly, a gain of one seat, and eight seats in the 21-member state Senate. With the majority unable to override his vetoes, Gov. Lombardo has touted himself as a one-man roadblock to the Democratic majority’s policy priorities, including strict gun control, according to The Nevada Independent. Last year, Gov. Lombardo set a record for the most vetoes issued in a single legislative session, rejecting 75 of the 611 bills passed by the Legislature.
In a critically meaningful development in Minnesota, Republicans won and flipped just enough legislative seats to draw even with the Democratic-Farmer-Labor (DFL) party and split the Minnesota House of Representatives evenly, ending the DFL’s total trifecta control in
Minnesota as DFL Gov. Tim Walz returns to the Governor’s Mansion after losing his White House bid with Vice President Kamala Harris. It’s not an outright majority victory Republicans hoped for at this point, but a tied House will provide a check on the agenda of Democrats who still hold the state Senate and governor’s office. The parties must reach a power-sharing agreement to determine how the House will run, according to the Minnesota Star Tribune
Gov. Walz, for all his camo-draping Second Amendment talk during the campaign would likely still sign into law gun control policies passed by DFL majorities if they reached his desk. That’s been his track record to this point, including enacting universal background checks and so-called “red flag” laws that deny the accused due process rights.
Overall, 23 states currently have Republican trifecta control of the governor’s mansion and each chamber of the legislature. On the other hand, Democrats can claim 17 trifectas after the election. There are 10 states with divided government. While Democrats are on track to end Republican supermajorities in North Carolina and Wisconsin, it appears that Republicans have also narrowly ended Democratic supermajorities in Colorado and Vermont.
With such slim margins in individual legislative chambers in only a small number of non-trifecta states, each and every single seat victory is a big one for gun rights advocates, Second Amendment supporters, and the firearm and ammunition
industry that provides for the exercise of those God-given rights. As the legislative sessions begin in 2025 and pick up steam, NSSF will as always keep our members informed.

Now more than ever before, civilians are seeking effective means to protect themselves without resorting to lethal force, and Byrna's selfdefense platforms will undoubtedly continue to play a pivotal role in a rapidly developing market. Once dominated by low-cost products such as mace sprays, tasers, personal alarms, and novelty defensive key rings, the civilian self-defense market has undergone a significant transformation in recent years, moving away from close-proximity, last-ditch defensive tools toward civilian-legal ranged weapons capable of warding off attackers from a distance. But why the sudden change?
With the rising awareness of personal safety concerns and an increase in urban crime rates, we've seen a growing demand for more effective self-defense solutions, aside from firearms and lethal force. This rapidly growing need has spurred innovation within the industry, leading to the development of safer, more reliable, and consistent less-lethal solutions.
Historically, civilians seeking less-lethal self-defense solutions had limited choices, made worse by spotty reliability and inconsistent results. Mace sprays provided a portable means to incapacitate an assailant, but their effectiveness could be compromised by environmental factors, such as wind and back spray. Handheld tasers were widely seen as a more reliable alternative to mace, but came with concerns around safety as users had to be close to would-be attackers for a taser to be effective. Personal alarms and key ring devices, while useful for drawing attention, lacked the immediate deterrent effect that many users desired.
Byrna Technologies, however, has disrupted the market, offering civilians a 50-state legal—and ethical—means for self-defense. The company’s innovative products combine the familiarity of firearm mechanics with non-lethal technology, enabling individuals to defend themselves from a safe distance without the ethical and legal complexities associated with lethal weapons.
Founded with the mission of providing civilians with effective non-lethal selfdefense options, Byrna Technologies introduced its flagship product, the Byrna HD “personal security device” in the late 2010s. Resembling a firearm, but firing non-lethal .68-caliber projectiles designed to incapacitate an attacker without causing permanent harm, this innovative approach to self-defense empowers individuals by combining the familiar ergonomics of a firearm with the non-lethal technology necessary for safe, effective self-defense.
Byrna actively works with communities, law-enforcement agencies, and lawmakers to raise awareness about the importance of less-lethal defense options. Through strategic partnerships with advocacy groups and participation in
community events, Byrna aims to promote discussions around personal safety and the role of non-lethal options in self-defense, effectively providing viable defense solutions while also saving lives. Their outreach efforts have resonated with a diverse audience, from urban apartment residents seeking personal protection to outdoor enthusiasts looking for non-lethal solutions while engaging in recreational activities, truly making the Byrna platform a viable option for everyone.
Since the initial release of the HD platform, Byrna Technologies has released a number of other self-defense devices, further raising the bar for less-lethal defense options, and further establishing Byrna as the unchallenged leader in the civilian market. These include the Byrna SD and Byrna LE, which offer various features such as enhanced muzzle velocity, improved accuracy, and specialized projectiles designed for different defensive situations. The versatility of Byrna's product line makes it an attractive option for a broad demographic, as well as many lawenforcement agencies.
Interestingly, Byrna's competitors have been slow to catch up. Many of today's less-lethal options still rely on outdated technology that lacks the effectiveness and user-friendliness of Byrna's offerings. While some companies have attempted to bring other innovative solutions to market, they often fall short of the bar set by Byrna's proven performance, reliability, and safety.
The rise of companies like Byrna Technologies marks a significant shift toward the broader acceptance of advanced non-lethal self-defense solutions among civilians. As more individuals seek meaningful ways to defend themselves without resorting to lethal force and its inherent risks, the demand for effective and responsible self-defense products has continued to increase as well.
Luckily, the continued expansion of e-commerce and modernized direct-toconsumer sales models continue to make less-lethal products more accessible as consumers become more informed about their self-defense options. Further, the market will continue to grow and adapt, catering to changing needs and a more diverse user demographic. Booth #43948 (byrna.com)

Barrett Firearms Manufacturing, Inc. has secured a significant new contract with NATO-allied Norwegian Defense Materiel Agency (NDMA). The agreement enables the Norwegian Armed Forces to upgrade their existing Barrett Model 82A1 rifles, in service since 1999, to the more advanced model M107A1.
“We are honored to continue our partnership with the Norwegian Armed Forces by providing the M107A1, a rifle that embodies our dedication to precision, reliability, and innovation. This move ensures that the Norwegian forces are equipped with the latest advancements in long-range firepower,” says Barrett CEO Bryan James.
This is an important step for both NDMA and Barrett. The M107A1 rifle, chambered in .50 BMG (Browning Machine Gun), is a substantial upgrade from the Model 82A1, offering reduced weight, improved performance, greater durability, and modern features tailored to meet the evolving demands of modern warfare. The M107A1 is also suppressor capable, adding a critical feature for reducing the rifle’s signature in various operational environments.

Staying ahead of the competition requires an ability to call an audible.
Anderson Manufacturing, a family-owned business based in Hebron, Kentucky, has been in manufacturing for almost 70 years, making rifles, components, and accessories for shooting enthusiasts of all stripes. Recently, the company appointed industry veteran Jeff Stawiarski as its new chief executive officer. The strategic move is designed to reinforce Anderson Manufacturing’s commitment to innovation and growth.
With a wealth of experience, expertise, and thoughtful leadership, Stawiarski has demonstrated exceptional vision and stewardship throughout his career. He has held positions at Xtreme Scents, W.L. Gore, Vista Outdoor, and, most recently, EOTECH. His appointment is a pivotal component of Anderson Manufacturing’s continued efforts to expand its market presence. As CEO, he will lead Anderson Manufacturing’s strategic direction, fostering innovation, and driving sustainable growth.
SHOT Daily: What do you see as the biggest challenges facing the industry in the next five years?
Jeff Stawiarski: The biggest challenge I see is the attempt to hold gun manufacturers liable for the criminal misuse of their products. I grew up in Michigan, so I have some connection to the automotive industry. If you’re going to go after a gun manufacturer for an act committed by someone who
is not a law-abiding citizen, are you then going to go after a car company because the driver of that vehicle caused the death of someone? That’s not how it works. It’s not the vehicle, and it’s not the gun; it’s the person driving the vehicle, and it’s the person shooting the gun.
SD: What opportunities do you see?
JS: If I’m not mistaken, this industry has a $90 billion impact on the American economy. That means well-paying jobs for Americans and significant tax revenue for state and federal government entities. What we do also helps support law enforcement and the military to help keep us safe from harm both at home and abroad.
Of all the people I talk to—and I have a pretty wide and deep network in firearms, ammunition, optics, and accessories—this industry will continue to stay strong. So, I believe firearms, along with all the other ancillary products, will continue to flourish.
SD: When you get up in the morning, what gets you excited about working in the industry?
JS: Although I have never served in the military or worked in law enforcement, I take great pride that I work in an industry that supports our military and helps to make a difference in law enforcement. I think in the end we make products people are passionate about—people who are passionate about going to gun ranges, people who are passionate supporters of the Second Amendment. I feel that every day I come to work I’m making a difference for these people. I’m from Detroit, where many people at one point in their lives work in the automotive industry. I once worked at an automotive company that made springs and coils. Let’s face it: you can’t get excited about making springs and coils.
SD: In a very competitive world, how does Anderson Manufacturing stay ahead of the pack?
JS: We have a diversified portfolio. We not only build parts, but we build firearms. The work we do on the OEM side is very important. Believe it or not, almost 70 percent of the brands in this space use Anderson parts. Whatever the flavor of the month is, we can deliver. For example, last year it was parts; this year the demand is for finished firearms. It’s kind of like a quarterback at the line of scrimmage who reads the defense and calls an audible. Well, we called an audible. We’re very versatile and nimble, and that allows us to adjust to changes in the marketplace.
Another competitive advantage is we’re a family-owned American-made company. Although the company has only been building firearms and firearms parts for 30 years, the company is nearly 70 years old. Its DNA is in heavy machinery and CNC manufacturing, and that experience over 70 years has helped Anderson carve out its niche in the firearms industry.
SD: The new Frontline series, which consists of two rifles and three pistols for the civilian market, is based on your longstanding Defender series designed for LEOs. What did you learn from the user experience of the Defender series that helped you design the Frontline series?
JS: We have learned so much from our law enforcement partners all over the nation, especially from our team next door—Boone County Sheriffs. When we came out of the development phase and into the testing phase, Boone County Sheriffs were a key element to help us with the next steps. Through testing, we learned that every area of operations is unique and that we need to be flexible when it comes to developing a build-out plan. In essence, we found out that there’s no cookie-cutter approach to arming an entire department. We needed to speak with the LEOs who have boots on the ground, understand their command elements, and even integrate ourselves into some of their training
evolutions to get a grasp on what a solid duty rifle looks like for each respective team. As a result, we learned that we have to be nimble as a manufacturer and ready to meet each respective department with their specified wants and needs.
Some of our key takeaways included barrel length and twist ratio, which was heavily dependent on the department’s standard ammunition weights and operation terrain, and gas-system length and corresponding buffer weights to mitigate recoil to support efficiency in follow-on shots. We also revamped our handguard design by implementing seven sides of MLOK compatibility with top rail support, quick-detach sling points, and a tapered retention system with anti-rotation shoulders to give these rifles the rigidity that LE duty rifles demand.
Our partnerships within the industry helped us develop the Frontline and Defender Series by implementing Magpul’s K2 Grips, MOE SL Stock/ BSL Arm Brace, and also Breek Arms’ Warhammer charging handles that support ambidextrous charging and mitigate gas blowback when shooting suppressed.
SD: One of your primary tasks as CEO is to expand the company’s market presence. How will you go about doing that?
JS: I think this is a loaded, yet fair, question to ask a CEO. Really, it’s about the people that work in the company. My director of marketing, Jennifer Tuttle—another new player to Anderson with longevity in this space—Jeremy Hammons, our vice president of sales and marketing, and I will be leveraging our industry expertise and connections to develop the Anderson story and evolve the brand. There is also a lot of focus right now on operations. It’s not about coming in and fixing things at Anderson. Instead, it’s about using the team’s expertise to introduce new processes and identify areas of continuous improvement in order to allow the company to expand and grow. In some cases, that’s been identifying internal talent and encouraging growth or making sure we have the right people in the right jobs that speak to their skill set.

Thermal and night-vision optics are quickly becoming more popular with hunters, especially now that prices for some brands have become more affordable. X-Vision Optics is one such brand with prices that allow hunters to try the thermal and night-vision space without taking too large a bite out of their wallets. The company, a privately owned enterprise run by avid sportsmen who are primarily predator hunters, has been in the thermal and nightvision optics game for about five years. Their idea in getting into this space was to compete with the big dogs in the industry by offering features that hunters expect, yet at an affordable price.
The Shadow 100 night-vision binocular is priced right at $150 and is well suited for hunting coyotes. Other binocular models in the Shadow series add features yet keep it in a Walmart cost range of $170 to $400. The price point allows customers to try out night-vision optics without investing a ton of money.
The technology in thermal optics is more complicated than that for night-vision optics. Think of a thermal optic as a miniaturized computer. You don’t actually view through a thermal optic; instead you see a visual representation of the target displayed in pixels just like what you would see on a computer screen. That’s the reason thermal optics are so expensive. As the cost of some processors has decreased, so has the cost of thermal optics.
The Flex thermal-optic series, which consists of three models, is a good option for close-in hog hunting.
The newest and hottest thermal optics in X-Vision’s lineup is the Flex series. These thermal optics are set up like a red-dot reflex sight and are about three times the size. The Flex sight is well suited for an AR15 platform, as the sight has a built-in clamp that is compatible with Picatinny rails. The Flex series is designed for up-close to mid-range targets, so think nighttime pig hunting. Three models—Flex 2, Flex 1, and Flex 1 Wide View—all come in different price points, from $1,999.99 to $3,499.99. The top-of-the-line Flex 2 has 1-4X magnification and a 1,700-yard detection range. The OLED screen size is 3.1 inches. There are five color palettes to chose from and six reticle options. You can also set up reticles for three different firearm platforms or three different loads. The picture-inpicture function enables you to display a highprecision zeroing frame. A built-in memory allows you to save photos and videos. Since the Flex series uses a quick-detach clamp, X-Vision offers a sight handle that allows the user to mount any of the Flex thermal sights to a handle for scanning and tracking.
The Impact line of thermal optics is more like a traditional thermal optic, but with longer
range detection and higher magnification. There are three models—Impact 150, Impact 250, and Impact 350, with an SRP range of $2,999.99 to $5,999.99. The Impact 150 has a 2.4-9.6X magnification range and can detect up to 1,100 yards away. On the high end is the Impact 350 with a detection range of 1,500 yards and 2-16X magnification range.
Monocular and binocular models are also in the lineup. The Infinity family consists of two thermal monoculars. The Beyond series consists
Beyond thermal binoculars can detect heat signatures up to 1,500 yards.
of thermal binocular models that can detect heat signatures up to 1,500 yards and have builtin rangefinding capabilities. They also can take photos and videos.
All X-Vision thermal products have a threeyear warranty. Night vision and other products carry a two-year warranty. A dealer program is in place for retailers. For your customers wanting to try thermal optics, X-Vision Optics is great entry-level brand with competitive pricing. Booth #72814 (xvisionoptics.com)
The battle lines are drawn for us and the stakes are high.
Each election hundreds of millions of dollars are spent to elect candidates who vehemently oppose our freedoms. They mock our values and beliefs, while working to destroy our industry and eliminate our rights.
That’s why Protect Liberty PAC was created to protect our liberty, defend America’s cherished freedoms, and save the firearm industry.
Just as our Founding Fathers joined together to lead a fight for liberty and freedom in the face of tyranny, so can we.
Please join with us in our fight today and let’s safeguard the firearm industry and our liberties before they disappear forever.

Given CrossBreed’s experience and expertise in developing premium leather and Kydex holster solutions, it was only natural that the company would open a new product category for sportsmen seeking a high-quality option for their rifle-carry needs.
The new CrossBreed rifle sling series debuts with three stylish, high-performance hand-crafted models. All models are made of premium five-ounce cowhide leather and are offered in two finishes—black or brown—to best match the rifle’s aesthetics. The Scout is a minimalist-style sling ideal for scout rifles and carbines. It is a onepiece sling with a trim one-inch width that easily holds to the shoulder and allows the shooter to quickly wrap up in a “hasty sling.” (SRP: $24.95.) The Walker, built on a two-piece configuration, works perfectly for carbine- and rifle-length arms when the shooter desires extra width to more evenly distribute the gun’s weight. The shoulder strap boasts a two-inch width and is backed by a soft suede lining to enhance comfort. (SRP: $49.95.) The Tracker, another two-piece sling design, is made for hunters demanding maximum comfort and support for all-day rifle carry. The Tracker adds a robust foam padding sandwiched between the base five-ounce cowhide and soft suede backer. This, combined with a 2.75-inch width for optimal weight distribution, makes for a hunting sling that will keep you going from pre-dawn until you are back to camp. (SRP: $49.95.)
All three slings utilize Chicago-style screws to secure the sling swivels and to make sling length adjustments. With the two Chicago screws on the adjustment holes, it is designed to have a streamline function without the use of bulky keepers to get in the way. Booth #14843 (crossbreedholsters.com)

Tetra has developed a new grease formula called Obex Prime. The idea is to offer something that meets or exceeds the specifications of NSN-grade lubricants that are already approved for use on medium-caliber weapons systems. For the sport shooter, that translates into elite performance characteristics out of any gunmetal treatment.
Obex Prime Grade 1 light grease is designed to be applied very sparingly as the fluoropolymer-based lubricant protectant penetrates and coats gun parts, providing an environmental barrier from fouling that ensures minimal friction and wear while assuring the user a maximum number of rounds fired before relubrication. The Tetra difference is the super-small specially treated spherical particles of fluoropolymer that create that ball-bearing smooth surface that stands up to extreme conditions. That, combined with the other specialty ingredients, gives the shooter a special concoction that delivers unmatched performance.
Obex Prime operates at an extreme operating temperature range to prevent galvanic corrosion while delivering serious pressure and load-bearing tolerances. Available in one-ounce tubes. SRP: $14.99. Booth #14852

Predator hunters know that volume matters, and the new Primos Double Take electronic coyote call allows you to adjust the direction of the call thanks to independently adjustable speakers at either end of the call. With its 24-bit sound system and independent speakers hunters can customize the call setup to match the conditions. Each Double Take call comes with a remote control that operates up to 200 yards away from the unit, and the full-color backlit control screen makes it easy to adjust call type, volume, and other features even in total darkness.
Tall grass or brush can obscure the sound of e-calls, but its adjustable legs allow you to elevate the call above the grass for improved sound quality and then fold the legs for storage and transport. NSSF President and CEO
Joe Bartozzi (left) presents Jeff Reh with the Ken Sedlecky Award.
NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, has presented its highest honor—the Ken Sedlecky Lifetime Achievement Award—to Jeff Reh, who served for four decades at Beretta USA Corp. as General Counsel and was a member of the NSSF Board of Governors for more than 20 years. Reh was recognized as the recipient of the award at the NSSF Members Meeting during the industry’s annual trade show, the SHOT Show.
“Jeff has been a pillar of wise counsel throughout his decades of
service at Beretta and NSSF,” said Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO. “For his leadership and many other contributions to the firearm industry, he is a most worthy recipient of the NSSF Ken Sedlecky Lifetime Achievement Award. Jeff is a long-time colleague and friend, and it’s an honor to present this award to him.”
The NSSF Ken Sedlecky Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves by their long-term commitment to the success of the industry and by their
support of NSSF’s mission to promote, protect, and preserve hunting and the shooting sports.
standards for safety, interchangeability, reliability and quality, coordinating technical data, and promoting safe and responsible firearms use.
Reh was a leading voice in helping to guide the firearm industry through some of its most challenging times. In the late 1990s, he helped create the Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund, which raised tens of millions of dollars to successfully fight politically motivated lawsuits filed against the industry by municipalities. This aggressive response to these frivolous lawsuits led to Congress passing the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act, which was signed into law in 2005 by President George W. Bush.
Reh and Beretta also contributed greatly to growing participation in the shooting sports over the years, showing strong support for programs like the NSSF-developed Scholastic Clay Target Program. Today, the scholastic shooting sports are thriving and have tens of thousands of participants nationwide.
In the area of firearm safety, Reh, an avid target shooter and hunter, showed unwavering support for NSSF’s Project ChildSafe program and, more recently, its new Gun Storage Check Week campaigns.
Reh, who retired last year from Beretta USA, served for 22 years on the NSSF Board of Governors, 17 of them as the board’s Co-Vice Chairman. His guidance assisted in the growth and influence of NSSF during his board tenure.
He also served for 23 years on the board of the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute (SAAMI), including two terms as Chairman. SAAMI is the organization that creates and publishes industry
Reh was unable to attend the SHOT Show award presentation but received the Ken Sedlecky Lifetime Achievement Award—a handsome Canada goose mounted on a stylish wood base—late last year in Washington, D.C., from Bartozzi.
The NSSF achievement award’s namesake, Ken Sedlecky, had a long career at Smith & Wesson, was inducted into the National Skeet Shooting Hall of Fame, and was known for mentoring new youth and adult target shooters.
NSSF, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, has honored three new inductees—Robert Delfay, Richard Hammett, and Arthur Wheaton—to its Hall of Fame at the 2025 SHOT Show. These career leaders were recognized for accomplishments that have strengthened the industry and expanded the shooting sports, hunting, and firearm ownership.
Joe Bartozzi, NSSF President and CEO, praised the contributions of the three Hall of Fame inductees in remarks made at the NSSF Members Meeting at the SHOT Show. SHOT Show is the largest trade show of hunting, shooting, law enforcement, and outdoor-related products in the world.
“On behalf of a grateful industry, it’s my honor to recognize Bob Delfay, Dick Hammett, and Art Wheaton for their exemplary careers and their many professional accomplishments. They each played pivotal roles in creating a better future for the firearm industry and popularizing the shooting sports and hunting,” said Bartozzi.
The inductees have their images and career highlights displayed in large panels erected in one of the most heavily trafficked corridors of the show. “The contributions of these three inductees are directly linked to the success of this great trade show and its importance to the millions of employees and customers connected to SHOT Show,” said Bartozzi.
Bob Delfay served 30 years with NSSF, including the last 10 years as its President and CEO. During his career, he was at the forefront of some of the industry’s biggest, most impactful initiatives. These included developing the SHOT Show into the world’s largest trade show of its kind; the creation in 1971 of the first National Hunting and Fishing Day, which Congress officially recognized to occur on the fourth Saturday of every September; and the formation of the Hunting and Shooting Sports Heritage Fund that was supported by 200 companies to fight frivolous lawsuits filed by municipalities. In retirement, Delfay didn’t rest as he helped establish a 10-year, $1 million dollar grant program, in partnership with NSSF, to benefit the future of hunting and conservation.
Dick Hammett spent 42 years with Olin Corporation in finance, marketing, and senior management roles. He was President of the Winchester Division from 2002 until his retirement in 2011. Hammett was both a passionate sportsman and industry leader, having served on the Board of Governors for both NSSF and the Sporting Arms and Ammunition Manufacturers’ Institute. Hammett was an ardent champion and supporter of youth shooting sports programs, including 4-H, the Youth Shooting Sports Alliance, and the Scholastic Clay Target Program, and he was an advisory board member for Kids and Clays, an organization that raises money for Ronald McDonald House Charities.
The Chairman of NSSF’s Board of Governors from 2002 to 2007, Art Wheaton has maintained a focus throughout his life on conservation, hunting, and the responsible use of firearms. He spent more than four decades with Remington Arms Company, starting as a junior engineer and eventually retiring as Vice President General Manager Worldwide Sales in 2001. NSSF launched major programs during Wheaton’s tenure as Chairman, including Families Afield, Hunting Heritage Partnership, and First Shots. Wheaton supported NSSF’s expansion of retailer-focused services, and he championed the growth of NSSF’s fledgling Scholastic Clay Target Program.

NSSF hosted the fourth annual Governors’ Forum at the 2025 SHOT Show Wednesday. The governors who attended were (in alphabetical order of their states: Idaho, Governor Brad Little; Montana, Governor Greg Gianforte; Nebraska, Governor Jim Pillen; Nevada, Governor Joe Lombardo; Oklahoma, Governor Kevin Stitt; and Wyoming, Governor Mark Gordon.
NSSF hosted the Governors’ Forum, this year moderated by Sean Davis, CEO and Co-Founder of The Federalist, to discuss the importance of the industry to their states, the legislative landscape, and what can and should be done to protect the industry from gun control special interests threatening the firearm and ammunition industry and Second Amendment rights.
“These governors are the leading voices for protecting Second Amendment rights and the firearm and ammunition industry that provides the means for Americans to lawfully exercise those rights,” said Lawrence G. Keane, NSSF Senior Vice President & General Counsel. “NSSF’s Governors’ Forum provides a unique opportunity for SHOT Show attendees and industry media to hear directly from those governors, especially in a year when the nation will transition to a new Trump presidential administration. NSSF has regularly welcomed
governors to SHOT Show, but the Governors’ Forum is a rare chance to hear directly about the issues and opportunities facing the firearm industry and Second Amendment freedoms to their states.”
At the outset, the governors agreed that the Trump Administration was not only a good thing for the firearm industry, but a good thing for their respective states. Energy and critical materials for manufacturing were top of mind for Governor Little, and he said that under the Trump Administration, “We’re headed in the right direction.” He also believes the administration would work hard to help small businesses succeed. Governor Stitt echoed those sentiments, saying, “There is a new day in America.”
A bloated and inefficient federal bureaucracy remains a huge concern for this group, and they believe that President Trump will work hard to reduce onerous regulations that hinder economic growth. Education is a top priority, too. For the firearm manufacturers in their states to proposer, they need to be able to draw on a “workable workforce” prepared through apprenticeship programs and other state efforts that give young adults the skills necessary to operate the sophisticated machinery utilized by the industry. They all agreed that a “skilled workforce is vital for American prosperity.” They also pledged their continuing support for the Second Amendment.

Gear that helps keep personnel safer and better prepared for challenging situations is front and center this year.
by Michael D. Faw
The Shooting, Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show is underway (welcome to Day 4!), and the trend continues that more and more manufacturers are generating gear with LE personnel in mind. The wide range of gear categories are designed to keep everyone safer, more in control of tense situations, and more accurate when it counts—in other words, better prepared for what the streets and back alleys toss at them.
When it comes to gaining control of a bad situation, nothing says “I'm in control” like a tactical shotgun in your hands. Mossberg has a wide range of shotguns in use by LE personnel around the globe, and it has released the new 940 Pro Thunder Ranch 12-gauge shotgun that wears the distinctive Thunder Ranch logo on the OD Green action. It will hold hold up to eight shotshells, has a drilled and tapped receiver for a sight, and an ambidextrous top-mounted safety. The 940 Pro also features dual-sided QD swivel mounts on the stock and forend as well as a barrel clamp with M-LOK mounting slots.

Factory-compensated carry guns are coming on strong. Here’s what you need to know to sell them.
by David Maccar
It’s a fact: Compensated pistols are fast becoming standard equipment for a variety of applications that now include concealed carry and self-defense. Why? Because the design helps reduce recoil while also helping shooters deliver precision shots.
Today, there are a number of concealed-carry handguns that come from the factory either with an integrated compensator, like the relatively new Smith & Wesson Carry Comp M&P9 2.0 (Booth #12427) and Springfield Armory’s new Echelon Comp pistols (Booth #11217), or that ship with a more traditional muzzle-mounted comp, like the Springfield Armory Hellcat RDP.
For years, compensators were relegated to big handguns; here, I’m talking about bonerattling magnum revolvers for hunting and semi-autos tricked out for rapid fire in competition shooting. So why should your customers want a compensator on a tiny carry gun in the first place? Because they work. Let me explain.
For all intents and purposes, in 2025 we can consider handgun compensators and ports as the same thing. The end goal of both has always been the same, to vent gas from a fired round upward, thereby reducing felt recoil and muzzle flip, making it easier for a shooter to get back on target faster for follow-up shots. That’s why they’re good for fast competition shooting—and for making rounds like the .460 S&W Magnum somewhat more manageable. Compensators come in two flavors: those that attach to the end of the muzzle and those that are integrated into the slide for a better profile and ease of use.
Some old-school handgunners ported their carry guns, both semi-autos and revolvers; that’s why you still see customized officer-sized 1911s from the 1970s and 1980s with gunsmith-milled ports. A compensated or ported .45 ACP full-size gun is an absolute dream to shoot. And the industry has always flirted with them, while they, along with muzzle brakes, became widely accepted on rifles and hunting handguns.
Traditional compensators attach to the muzzle of a barrel. They have one or more baffled expansion chambers that redirect gasses upward through one or more ports. They are more effective than ports because they also slow down the barrel and slide during the firing sequence, reducing felt recoil. That does mean some compensated guns may have trouble cycling with lighter loads, and we’ll get to that in a bit. Nowadays, that definition has to be expanded to include an integrated compensator, which is essentially a large port with a shaped slide cut above it.
So far, there are a lot of checks in the pro column for comps. They reduce muzzle flip and recoil; they allow a shooter to reacquire a sight picture faster; and they allow shooters to more easily handle hard-hitting and hard-kicking cartridges in semi-autos, like the 10mm. Compensators also help tame snappy recoil from a 9mm in small, super-lightweight polymer pistols and make a full-size steel 9mm feel like you’re shooting a .22.
But there’s always a tradeoff. Comps have been slow to be adopted by the CCW world because of what are largely a set of gun myths that the internet continually circulates.
The first myth says that when a comp directs gases upward, it also directs muzzle blast upward—right into the shooter’s field of view. That can affect a shooter’s vision in low-light situations, and as we all know real-world selfdefense scenarios, unlike pistol competitions, often play out in low light and in tight spaces.
Tests have mostly laid this myth to rest by concluding that the size of a muzzle flash mostly depends on the type of ammo being used. Some loads produce a significant flash with or without a comp. If this is preventing a customer from buying a gun with a comp, advise them to test their carry gun with their self-defense ammo of choice in low light, training they should be doing anyway.
Another often-repeated downside goes something like this: “If you have to use a compensated gun to defend yourself in a tight spot, or if you have to shoot from an unconventional position, the gas will burn you.” Okay, sure, if
someone fires the gun right next to their face, they’re going to experience a minor burn. And if they fire through a jacket pocket, the gas could singe their clothing. Even then, it won’t be a catastrophic event. You can also remind a customer that the gas ejected from the cylinder gap of any revolver produces a similar effect.
You might also hear someone ramble on about debris ending up in the ports and causing malfunctions. To this group recommend a different holster, one properly designed to accommodate a compensated pistol.
Springfield Armory’s Hellcat RDP uses a more traditional muzzle-mounted compensator.
There’s one more downside that bears addressing: Much like muzzle brakes on rifles, comps make handguns louder. And this one isn’t a myth, it’s just the plain truth. It’s a side effect of the compensator’s function of venting hot exhaust gases.
The final concern a customer may bring up, and one you may want to mention to them, is that a compensator can affect a pistol’s reliability for the reasons mentioned above. They do slow down the movement of the barrel and slide a bit. If they thread onto the barrel, they also add weight to it, which can affect performance. And, of course, muzzle-mounted comps make a gun longer.
You solve the reliability question by telling a customer to get their comped handgun and ammo dialed in over a few hundred rounds to ensure reliability. That way they know exactly how the gun performs. In a severe case where they can’t get any ammo to function reliably, a lighter recoil spring may be called for.
But, the great thing about factory-comped pistols is they go through extensive R&D at their respective gunmakers, so these issues are thoroughly weighed and tested before the gun comes to market.
Lastly, today’s compensators aren’t the comps of even 10 years ago. Back in the day, a gunsmith had to time an aftermarket comp so it would thread onto a barrel tightly and be level when it stopped turning. Shims were involved, and removing one for cleaning, which is necessary when breaking down a semi-auto, wasn’t fun. New systems for attaching a comp, like
Experience a revolution in concealed carry ammunition. Built with precision, this new Jacketed Hollow Point projectile features precut serrations in the lead-alloy core, surrounded by a heavy copper jacket, engineered for precisely regulated expansion. Optimized for performance out of short barrels, but tough enough to withstand full size handgun velocities this projectile holds together perfectly and delivers unmatched performance, and the proprietary design ensures consistent expansion and terminal performance, giving you confidence in every shot.
“Tests have mostly laid this myth to rest by concluding that the size of a muzzle flash mostly depends on the type of ammo being used.”
Springfield’s proprietary Self Indexing design, make attaching and detaching as easy as a installing a suppressor. Of course, integrated comps never have to be messed with at all.
In the end, what you’re really selling is a better, less-punishing shooting experience, which translates to more fun when shooting and training. You’re also selling the promise of more reliable follow-up shots when it truly matters.
And compensators do work, especially on ultra-compact CCW pistols in 9mm. That snappy little round in a self-defense load can be awful for some people to shoot from a small gun, but the difference shooting the Hellcat, for example, with and without the comp is illuminating. And if a gun is eas ier and more fun to shoot, a person is more likely to train with it more often. And that is obviously a very good thing.

THE ARCHERY BUSINESS PAVILION WAS A NEW — AND SUCCESSFUL — PART OF SHOT SHOW LAST YEAR, AND IT PROMISES TO BE EVEN BETTER IN 2025.
BY ARCHERY BUSINESS STAFF
In mid-February 2023, the NSSF (National Shooting Sports Foundation) announced the creation of the Archery Business Pavilion, a new exhibit area for the archery and hunting industries at NSSF’s annual SHOT Show. The Pavilion is an exciting collaboration between NSSF and Grand View Outdoors, a leading provider of outdoor content. ( Archery Business , Bowhunting World and Shooting Sports Retailer magazines are part of the Grand View Outdoors family of brands.)
Fast-forward to January 2024 — and specifically the 46th SHOT Show, which set new benchmarks for industry innovation, collaboration and engagement. With an expanded show floor, a record-high number of exhibitors, and an array of new features and networking opportunities, the 2024 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, was the largest to date. More than 55,400 industry professionals packed the 13.9 miles of aisles over four days at The Venetian Expo and Caesars Forum — including the Archery Business Pavilion — eager to view new,
innovative products used for hunting, shooting and outdoor recreation.
“The energy on the SHOT Show floor in 2024 was off the charts,” said Chris Dolnack, NSSF Senior Vice President and Chief Customer Officer. “The feedback we’ve received from our exhibitors and attendees has been amazing, and we can’t thank them all enough for helping us make the show what it is: the greatest trade show in the world.”
The 2024 Archery Business Pavilion (located in Caesars Forum) featured exhibits from leading manufacturers and suppliers in the archery and hunting industries. The new area of the show provided a focused environment for archery and hunting retailers and industry professionals to explore the latest trends, products, and business opportunities in the archery and hunting sector. So, what was the feedback from 2024?
“I spent a good amount of my time
each day in the Archery Business Pavilion,” said Archery Business Editor Dave Maas. “Of course, because I have ‘skin the game,’ I wanted the new space to be a success. I must say I was impressed. The NSSF team did an outstanding job of making it easy for Show goers to find the new Pavilion. The space was clearly marked on the SHOT Show overview map, and special lime-green carpet runways (think shortcut) across the floors of Levels 1 and 2 in the Venetian Expo (the two main exhibit spaces) helped direct traffic to the SHOT Bridge, the path to Caesars Forum and the Pavilion. NSSF even had Show workers standing with signs directing people to the SHOT Bridge and the Pavilion; nice!
“The Pavilion space itself was big and bright, in a word — outstanding. In my opinion, traffic in the Pavilion was good. Yes, it would take a bit to get busy in the mornings, but I attribute that to the fact the Pavilion and all other booths in Caesars Forum are a bit of a hike from the SHOT Show entrances.”
The SHOT Show’s Archery Business Pavilion continues to grow in its second year with a dozen new exhibitors joining their fellow archery and hunting companies.
Among the new exhibiting companies for 2025 are Arcus Hunting, Buck Blitz, Canyon Coolers, Koola Buck, National Archery in the Schools Program (NASP), New Century Products, T.R.U. Ball/AXCEL Archery, Viper Archery Products, and FL Outdoors, whose brands include Swhacker, C’Mere Deer, TAC Vanes and Steel Force Broadheads.
“Momentum continues to build in year two of the Archery Business Pavilion at SHOT Show, and we’ve seen the addition of significant exhibitors,” said Grand View Outdoors President/Publisher Derrick Nawrocki. “This in addition to FeraDyne Outdoors, Summit Outdoors, and many others which are coming back, along with Moultrie Mobile, which is doubling the size of its Pavilion booth footprint.
“It is worth mentioning that many of the traditional and more modern firearms shop retailers, who are looking to expand their existing inventory with categories in the hunting, archery and general outdoor markets, are now able to see that segment in one area, which is one of the goals of this space — helping to make the SHOT Show as efficient and convenient as possible for buyers.”
“We’re pleased with the growth of the Archery Business Pavilion and the opportunity that it presents for exhibitors and nearly 5,000 buyers who have intent to purchase archery, bowhunting and hunting products,” Dolnack said. “Since the 2022 SHOT Show, our post show surveys revealed that 24 percent of the retail buyers had an interest in the category as traditional firearm retailers look to expand their offerings.”
It will be located within the upcoming SHOT Show in Las Vegas, Nevada, from Jan. 21 through Jan. 24, 2025. You’ll find the Pavilion in Caesars Forum in the Academy Ballroom.
Any manufacturer of outdoor, hunting and archery-related products can exhibit in the Pavilion.
The Pavilion features 16,000 net square feet of exhibit space and enclosed archery lanes to demonstrate new products for prospective buyers in Caesars Forum.
Exhibit space is limited; first come,
first served. Those who exhibit in 2025 will have first choice for space for 2026.
The Archery Business team, including editors and key staff, will be in the Pavilion working on best ways to cover and promote companies that exhibit.
Additional coverage about the Pavilion will appear in SHOT Daily during the show and within the pages of other B2B brands such as Archery Business , Hunting Retailer and Shooting Sports Retailer.
SHOT Show attracts attendees from around the world, including buyers, media and other industry profession-
als. The 2025 show will cover more than 820,000 net square feet of exhibit space, featuring over 2,700 companies showcasing the latest in firearms, ammunition, hunting and shooting accessories, archery, outdoor apparel and much more.
Visit www.SHOTShow.org/archeryfloorplan to see the Archery Business Pavilion floor plan for 2025. If you’re looking at a map of the entire SHOT Show space, the Archery Business Pavilion is located in the Caesars Forum
area showing SHOT Show University and meeting rooms.
Note: It’s likely that by the time you read this article, it will be too late in the game for you to make the decision to join other companies in the Pavilion during SHOT Show 2025. That said, it’s never too early to begin thinking about the future, and specifically SHOT Show 2026. Be sure to look for future content in this magazine about the Archery Business Pavilion, including feedback from those companies that attended in 2025. For more information on the Pavilion and SHOT Show, visit www.SHOTShow. org/archeryexhibit.

Modern shooting stances place the shooter facing the target with the buttstock lodged firmly in the shoulder pocket. Unfortunately, such a position often means the shooter must lower the head to the optic in order to acquire the target. Troy’s Statis is a 2.26-inch optic mount that solves this problem by allowing you to keep your head upright for greater situational awareness, reaction time, and ergonomics while engaging targets. This height also sets your optic at the perfect level for use with helmet-mounted night-optical devices, gas masks, or face shields.
A full-length clamp and two precision-machined cross bolts lock the mount to your rail. Troy also has inset the locking bolts so there are no additional protrusions to create snag hazards. Set to co-witness standard-height BUIS, the Stasis window eliminates the need to deploy folded back-up irons, roll your rifle to offset sights, or fumble with bulky QD systems if your optic goes down. The Stasis mount is compatible with optics sharing the Aimpoint Micro footprint.

Whether it’s hunting grouse, pheasants, or an elusive covey of quail, Kick’s Upland Flush choke tubes are proven performers and come in two restrictions—mid- and long-range—with an orange Cerakote finish. SRP: $80.
