A Message from the Committee Welcome one and all to the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Pageant 2008. This exciting event is always the kick off to our Fair on the Labour Day Weekend and we are glad you could come and support us. What wonderful experiences we have shared this past year with our Reigning Royalty and Candidates. It has been an extremely busy time attending many community events from the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo, The B.C. 150 Homecoming celebration, unveiling of The Wildfire Monument, The Fireman’s Ball, Celebration of the Arts and the reopening of the Community Garden just to name a few main events that happened right here in our town this year. The town of Barriere became incorporated this year and we welcomed a new Mayor and Council who have been such a huge support to our pageant program. Our three Candidates Jessica Thompson, Dawn Anderson, and Amanda Coder have spent many hours doing community service, fundraisers, training programs, and much more preparing for this weekend. We also hoped they had a little fun on the way at the sleep overs, visits to the Rainer and Wittner farms and the dancing, singing and riding in Limo’s. The girls were first class all the way and we enjoyed their spunk! Our Queen Farran Lyons and Princess Samantha McDermott have done an admiral job representing our community not only here in Barriere and the North Thompson but all over B.C. We thank them for their ongoing spirit and commitment to this program during a very busy year. They both should feel very proud of their many accomplishments during their reign. We wish them the best that life has to offer in their future. We would also like to thank the dedicated parents for pitching in and being there when we needed you. We cannot keep the pageant program going without you and please know we appreciate you all. Lastly we are grateful to our very supportive sponsors and all the businesses offering bursaries and other means of support. It takes a lot of people to make an event like this happen so please take the time to read the acknowledgments.
Thank you and enjoy the evening, Pageant Co-ordinators, Wendy McDermott & Beverly Murphy
Welcome to the North Thompson Fall Fair Queen Pageant. My name is Farran Lyons, Queen of 2007/08. I would like to thank everyone; family and friend, visiting royalty, judges and the community for coming to say farewell to Sam and I and welcome the new royalty of 2008/09. Over the past year Sam and I have had the pleasure of traveling the province and representing the North Thompson Valley. We have met so many wonderful people, who have made our experiences even more enjoyable. I would like to thank my sponsor Dorothy Russel of Ghinty Service for her sponsorship. I would also like to thank my family and friends for always having faith in me and supporting me in everything I do. This amazing program is made possible by the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Association and the pageant committee, who show incredible dedication and support. Our candidates Dawn, Amanda and Jessica have been working very hard these past few months. I would like to congratulate them on completing this program, and to thank them for each unique quality they have brought forward. Good luck ladies! Be proud of who you are and all your accomplishments. I hope you all enjoy the pageant and I look forward to seeing you at the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo.

Welcome to the North Thompson Fall Fair & Rodeo Pageant! This year I was given an opportunity to learn more about my province and represent my community. As we travelled to several different communities, I was intrigued by the beauty and diversity of British Columbia. I one day hope to explore it in more depth because of what I have been able to see. Our province truly has so much to be proud of. I have made many friends throughout my travels and have truly grown as a person. I have memories that will last a lifetime because of this wonderful program! There are many people who made this past year possible me and I would like to thank them for caring about their community and the youth in it. I would like to give a big thank you to my sponsors, Kim and Eldon Law, for letting me have this experience, the community for making it all happen, and my friends and family for supporting and helping me. Everyone in the North Thompson Valley has shown Queen Farran and I such incredible support and I thank each and every one of you for welcoming us at every event. My reign has been everything I could have asked for and more because of people like you. Our Candidates have been working hard for the past six months and deserve to be acknowledged for all they have accomplished. They are all so unique and talented and have already done Barriere and the North Thompson proud. As I say my farewells, I would like to thank you al for attending and supporting our youth.

Amanda Coder 1 was born in Nelson BC, however, I grew up in a small rural town about 2 hours north called Valemount and have been a resident of Barriere for the past 3 years. I am currently attending Barriere Secondary School and entering Grade 12 in September. After high school, I am planning on taking a year off from my studies to pursue my love of traveling to experience different cultures in various countries ; then attend Thompson Rivers University where I will begin to pursue a Bachelors Degree in Nursing. In my spare time, I enjoy a variety of sports especially speed skating , snowboarding , downhill biking, and soccer. I also enjoy spending time with my family and friends . Two proud achievements of mine are qualifying and competing in the BC winter Games in Cranbrook and the National Long Track Speed Skating Championships in Quebec City. Things that 1 would like to experience are different cultures in many parts of the world, learning how to assist people in third world countries and going on a volunteer project to build shelters for the homeless. 1 have chosen to be a Candidate for the North Thompson Fall Fair Pageant because 1 believe that not only will I get to know the 3 other great girls, but I will gain more learning experiences and opportunities from everything I learn from pageant and have a great opportunity to be involved in and represent the wonderful community I live in.

Dawn Anderson I’m Dawn Anderson, I am 16 years old, and will be in Grade 11 in .2008 - 2009. I was born in Kamloops B.C. and have lived in Barriere since the day I was brought home from the hospital. I like to be active and play all kinds of sports. In my spare time I like to visit and spend time with my family and friends. My favourite hobbies are drawing and playing a lot of sports to keep active. When I graduate from high school I want to work to save up money so that I can travel before going on with my education. I have chosen to become a candidate of the North Thompson Fall Fair and Rodeo Pageant because I thought it would be a great learning experience and also a fun and educational way to spend my summer. I am also looking forward to building on lasting friendships and the new friendships that I will acquire during this time.

I also enjoy camping and going to Quesnel to my Poppa’s trailer at Dragon Lake and travelling. After I graduate I plan to go to TRU to get my Bachelor of Business Administration or get my Bachelor of Education and would like to teach over seas in England or Australia. I have chosen to become a candidate to overcome my stage fright, to experience new things and meet new people. My sponsor is the Barriere Lions Club. I am very honored to be representing the Lions Club because they do so much to help the community. One thing I would like to experience is going on an exchange program to England or Australia.
