History, Location & Potential In Bridgehampton Village Bridgehampton. In 1920 Warren G Harding wins the Presidential election in a landslide, the 19th Amendment is ratified giving women the right to vote, the Sacco-Vanzetti trial gets underway and, for the first time ever, the World Series is broadcast to millions over radio as the NY Giants beat the NY Yankees And that same year, much further east, a quintessential 2- bedroom cottage was completed on a half-acre parcel in the then, very quiet, village of Bridgehampton. A century later, that same one level cottage, variously renovated over the years to include 2 bathrooms and updated amenities, awaits its next chapter only one block to the now very busy Main Street of that iconic Hampton village. Ripe for further renovation and expansion? Sure. But with room for a 4,500+/- SF house, plus a finished lower level, pool and cabana, this well-situated parcel with established parameter landscaping could be the site for something much more ambitious. But just as 1920 didn’t last forever, neither will this opportunity Ponder the possibilities today with your own private tour. See it all at myhamptonhomes.com/106966/ Exclusive $1.895M WEB# 106966

elcome to the Fall 2018 issue of Hamptons Real Estate
Showcase.
In
this month’s Marketwatch report, Ruth Thomas speaks with several leading brokers to get the lowdown on the Hamptons real estate market. Looking back on this past summer, we hear that it was a busy season for rentals, particularly shorter term, and an active one for sales in the $3 million and below market segment. Well priced new construction remains in high demand and is moving quickly throughout the Hamptons. The high-end luxury market is very busy, with prices having stabilized or gone down. As usual, there is very low inventory for anything under $1 million. Fall is traditionally one of the strongest seasons for sales in the Hamptons, so we will have to see how this one plays out…stay tuned.
Featured on this month’s front cover, The Slater Team of Sotheby’s
International Realty present a modern beach house located in East Hampton Village South. The interior design embraces the “Hamptons beach cottage” feel of years past combined with today’s modern edge. Featuring a Smart Network home system and energy efficient construction, this wonderful home is also biking distance to ocean beaches, as well as being near many fine restaurants and village shops.
This being our “Brokers to Watch” issue, be sure to check out some
of the rising stars on the Hamptons real estate scene starting on page 44. These up and coming agents bear close watching and we wish them all great success! Also in this issue, don’t miss Rachel Bosworth’s “A Curated Space,” featuring interior designer Barbara Page Glatt, whose designs aim to create living spaces that evoke the spirit and personality of its owners; Dawn Watson’s Haute Spot featuring a chat with futurist Faith Popcorn, who coined the terms “cocooning” and “cashing out” as well as predicting many other trends that have become a part of our mainstream culture; Hampton Habitués for some good news gossip about our notable friends and neighbors; Sam Wilson’s “Site Specific,” featuring Hamptons based sculptor Robert ‘Mojo’ Mojeski, whose love of movement is suggested in his works of forward motion; plus much more. Enjoy the issue!

from French journalist Bernard Pivot? Or get the inside scoop on the favorite curse words and various proclivities of our favorite actors?
Speaking of actors, it looks like the cast of
“The Affair” is back. Most of the gang has been spotted hanging out and filming in Montauk, with the exception of Ruth Wilson, who has left the show. And contrary to those reports that Joshua Jackson won’t be returning either for season five, we’ve got the photographic evidence that puts him here with the crew and out and about in Montauk. Stay tuned for more soon. The final season, set to air next summer, will be the last for the Golden Globe-winning Showtime drama.
Also returning is our favorite East End hostess
with the mostest. East Hampton’s Ina Garten returns for the third season of “Barefoot Contessa: Cook Like a Pro.” Cheers to that. The Food Network show debuts on October 21. Topping that, there’s a special Thanksgiving episode in the lineup, featuring Jennifer Garner and Nigella Lawson, airing on November 17. We are already counting our blessings.

says, “The rental season was good this summer but was overpowered by sales especially in Westhampton to Hampton Bays. The Hampton Bays market is on fire this year and is going to get better and better the next five years. Prices of high-end homes have either stabilized or gone down. The prices in Hampton Bays have gone up consistently. The inventory of lower priced homes is very sparse and in demand in all areas. The high-priced inventory in all areas is higher than usual. New construction is up and moving rather quickly especially West of the Canal.” Constance believes, “The end of November and December will see a slowdown but activity will soar mid-January.”
Angela Boyer-Stump of Sotheby’s International
Realty, Inc. says, “It was a quirky season. Many homes rented early while other great properties went unrented. Sales were not quite as busy as last year at this time, but still very active. The high end of the market is very busy and Bridgehampton and Sagaponack continue to be popular with buyers. East Hampton was on a run first and second quarter. New construction is flowing and moving. Buyers want to see something bold and edgy.” Angela thinks, “The reductions that happen now Presented by Marc Heskell of Saunders & Associates

Marc Heskell of Saunders & Associates says,
“Overall it was another strong rental season with a mixture of less full season rentals and more July thru LD, July or August and short-term rentals of two to three weeks. As for sales, the first half of 2018 showed a slight decrease in volume of about 5%, while the median sale price increased by about 5%. The most active properties continue to be those priced under $1M and $1M–$1.99M, which combined generally represents 70-75% of deals done. New construction and turnkey properties are still in high demand, as are waterfront, water view and unique south of the highway homes.” Marc has “seen a meaningful increase in deal activity in the summer, which should translate into a strong fall market.”

SPACE
INTERIOR DESIGNER BARBARA PAGE GLATT TAKES A FRESH AND MODERN APPROACH TO CLASSIC DESIGN BY RACHEL BOSWORTH
T
he place we call home is an extension of our being. It expresses our individual personality, bringing out unique characteristics and
style in the various spaces throughout. Aiming to create living environments that evoke the spirit and personality of its owners, Barbara Page Home uses a classic yet fresh and modern approach to design. Led by owner and interior designer Barbara Page Glatt, the firm works carefully with clients to create the individualized interiors that suit their personal styles and desires. The result is a thoughtfully curated space that takes into consideration even the most minute details.
Page Glatt has a background in journalism
and has written extensively on the topics of her field, which helps her in the process of working and communicating with a diverse array of clients looking for different things. By gathering as much information as possible, including how clients see themselves using a space, what their needs are, and what their lifestyle entails, conversations can answer important questions like determining the type of furniture, fabric used, and carpet choices. For example, a dog and white carpet often don’t mix, she says.
“Sometimes clients don’t even know what they
need but when you talk through it, they’ll discover something,” Page Glatt explains. “I use an extensive questionnaire which identifies the family’s wants and needs, use of the space, style and color preference, etc. The more information I have, the better the design I can provide my client. Good communication is the key to a great interior designer-client relationship.”
Another important design aspect Page Glatt
shares that clients can sometimes overlook is scale. Someone may see a sofa that looks beautiful in a showroom, but when it comes to their own living spaces it may be too large and will overwhelm the space or not make sense with other parts of the design. It is an easy mistake to make a purchase based on the personal preference of a piece alone. Working with a professional that has a trained

While interior designers often have their
own personal styles they enjoy, it is essential to the client to have their own vision come through in living spaces. Page Glatt is more transitional and often works with modern clients, though it is important to listen to what it is the client needs. It is this ideology that has allowed Barbara Page Home to find great success in designing high-end residential interiors for clients in New York City, the Hamptons, Connecticut, Westchester County and Palm Beach.

BEDTIME FOR THE GARDEN TIPS FOR PREPARING YOUR GARDEN BEFORE WINTER
BY ANNE HALPIN

inter is a time of rest for gardeners in the Hamptons. But before winter sets in, it’s wise to clean up the garden
and prepare the plants that will remain in place through the cold weather. Cleaning up the garden can remove pests that would overwinter on plant debris and can help prevent problems next spring. Do a final weeding and put the weeds and other plant debris, that are not diseased, on the compost pile if you have one. Bring in stakes, row covers no longer in use, and grow netting. Bring clay pots, hoses and tools indoors for winter storage. Winter is a good time to clean, oil and sharpen tools, to scrub out and disinfect clay pots. Here is a rundown of other things you can do to get your garden ready for winter.
Pull annual flowers such as impatiens and
marigolds when frost kills the plants or when they stop blooming, and put the plants on the compost pile or dispose of them. Cut back perennials at the end of the growing season, too. Cut back stems to 3 to 4 inches from the ground. This summer’s intense heat and humidity were tough on East
