What made you turn to real estate? SWC: I’ve been in and around the business for many years – during my senior year in high school and freshman year of college I worked for a luxury brokerage in Saddle River, NJ, my hometown. I was enthralled with the market, and by 23 I owned my first property. Before the move to Ralph Lauren Media I worked for a Manhattan developer by the name of M.J. Raynes as well as MacAndrews & Forbes Holdings Inc., which gave me insight into the development side of real estate, to which is a large part of my business. NRES:Where are the best values right now on the North Fork? SWC: The entire North Fork, actually. It’s very laid back and low-key but there’s still great food, shopping, boating, and we have spectacular beaches! 10

NFRES:What are the most common mistakes made by buyers and sellers? SWC: Honestly number one is not working with a top broker. There’s a lot of information involved in sizable transactions, and your broker plays an integral role in ensuring all the pieces of the puzzle fit together. Choose someone who will get the job done. NFRES:What is one of your more notable sales in the past year? SWC: My most notable sale so far this year has been a challenging property to sell. It had been languishing on the market for years. It is a gorgeous 37-acre estate, 14,000 sq. ft. home with a working horse farm and a farm filled with incredible nursery stock. The perfect buyer is purchasing the property, which is one the best parts of the job, making that perfect match! NFRES:What are some things you like to do, and places to be when you are not selling everything in site? SWC: Oooh I like that question! I’m blessed to have a loving and fabulous husband, and two incredible children. Spending time with them is at the top of my list! Us Clarrys LOVE boating! My husband and I enjoy visiting the vineyards such as Croteaux and Macari, while also eating out at some of our favorite restaurants. Welcome to the August issue of North Fork Real Estate Showcase.We hope that everyone has been having a great summer. The maritime village of Greenport is marking its 175th anniversary this year. On page 30, editor Ruth Thomas takes a look at how this original fishing and whaling port has attracted a diverse group of visitors to its authentic waterfront throughout its history. Marking its 175th anniversary as an incorporated village in 1838, Greenport, was settled in 1682, and was originally a major fishing and whaling port. Located near the easternmost tip of Long Island’s North Fork, Greenport borders Long Island Sound on the north and the Peconic Bay on the south. Attracting fishermen, tourists, beachgoers and boaters alike, Greenport is an historic seaside resort town. Fishing is a commercial industry in Greenport. Captain Bob Hamilton, a commercial fisherman for the past 40 years, catches winter flounder, butterfish, porgies, squid, bluefish, and fluke from April to October in Gardiner’s Bay on his 1955, 60 ft. Stern Dragger “Miss Nancy.” He also goes rod and reel fishing for striped bass and bluefish during the season on his 24 ft. Privateer. Later in the fall, he goes bay scalloping in Peconic Bay. He sells his day’s catch to Southold Fish Market and Braun Seafood Co. in Cutchogue. As he says, “everyday is an adventure on the sea.” Boating is a popular pastime in Greenport.
