lan Gabay, the Chief Marketing Officer of noah’s leaned on the elongated bar in the epicenter of the restaurant. “The customers have embraced Noah Schwartz (the Executive Chef) and Sunita Schwartz, (the Wine Director),” he said, smiling, “The restaurant is reflective of both their personalities.” And that couldn’t be more accurate. In January of 2010, noah’s first opened its doors to reveal a calming green sea foam themed restaurant in the heart (and near the dazzling water) of Greenport, New York. Yet, there was no way either Noah or Sunita could have imagined the success they are experiencing today. Their goal was to concentrate on locally obtained ingredients and small plate seafood dishes from our very own North Fork. Looking at the rave reviews from the New York Times, to TripAdvisor. com, many have declared it a success. The combined fortes of Noah and Sunita fused together are what make noah’s, their joint project, work. And now, with “Noah’s On The Road” (their mobile restaurant) and their catering line 24

thriving, one might even wonder if noah’s is becoming its own empire on the North Fork. One cannot just assume that “Noah’s On The Road” is merely a food truck. In reality, it’s an airstream, a self-contained kitchen. Both Noah, and his brother Justin, dreamed about exploring this avenue of customer gratification. “We really saw the need for food trucks in this area.With the wineries not being able to serve foods, and having hungry audiences sitting around, we kind of came up with the idea.” In the summer, one can see the airstream at wineries, private events, the Jitney stop in Southampton, rehearsal dinners, weddings, and even one’s own backyard. Noah realized that people want to have a fun cocktail party, and a high-end food truck fills the niche perfectly. “Noah’s On The Road,” like the main hub restaurant, also strives to use local ingredients, even if it is not always our local ingredients. “In keeping with the Noah’s style of what we do, we sourced small Midwestern companies that smoke and raise their own meat.” Noah said. “We definitely did our research and found the most

sustainable product that we could serve. We are proud of it even if it’s just a hot dog.” And it’s a good hot dog, too. The catering line, on the other hand, is a service that has been around since the opening of noah’s itself. People have come to expect that if they’re choosing noah’s, they’re going to get the best local ingredients, and the best wine. “People usually ask if we can pair wines with each course for them. Sunita looks at my menus and feels what the flavors are, and picks appropriate wines to work with.” With the food, the goal is not to just expose people to the variety the North Fork offers, but to educate them on where the food comes from as well. Noah said, “In the summer when we start getting all of our corn from Lathams in Orient, we put right there on the menu Lathams, Orient – sweet corn.” But it all comes down to three ideals: family, local fair, and the North Fork. The success of husband and wife, combined with their passion for the area around them, has made noah’s stand out.

ummer is off to a great start on the North Fork and the real estate market is heating up! For the first half of 2015 the market has been very strong and predictions are that it will remain strong for the second half. With prices increasing, demand high, and inventory low, now is the time to jump in. Judi Desiderio of Town & Country Real Estate reflects,“The first half of 2015 has been the best six months ever!” She adds, “This summer is poised to be sensational for the North Fork—we have so many South Fork buyers looking to the north for the quiet relaxation you can only get there. Waterfront and bulk acreage are hot. There is a sizable uptick in the quality and design of the new construction.” She observes, “Prices are heading north while inventory is heading south. We need more!” Judi believes, “The second half of 2015 will be even better than the first half. I’m quite bullish on our prime North Fork territory!” Dolores Peterson of Colony Realty observes, “The market has been very strong on the North Fork for the first half of the year and I believe the market will stay strong. Many people are looking to relocate on the North Fork from Nassau County and the Hamptons.” She remarks, “All areas are hot right now. Prices are holding steady; in fact, they actually came up a bit since last year. There is not enough new construction as there are not enough building lots available.” Dolores believes, “The second half of 2015 on

the North Fork will keep going strong.” Tom Uhlinger of Douglas Elliman Real Estate notes, “The first half of 2015 has been very active. Expect that to continue through the summer season. Offers are being made and there is excitement in the air.” He reflects, “Homes are selling under $500K and there is much activity in the $600-$900K range. New construction has picked up about 25%. Prices are somewhat static, but if priced right properties are selling. Inventory is low in the under $500K range, but ample from $600-$900K, off the water.” Tom predicts, “There will be a continuation of interest, prices warming up, and new inventory coming on.” Peggy Van Gordon of Daniel Gale Sotheby’s International Realty comments, “The market

It will surpass the first quarter in terms of median sales price and volume.” Gina Galante of Brown Harris Stevens observes,“The market has picked up tremendously after this past winter. The summer season will be one of the best in years.” She states, “Homes that offer close proximity to beach and boating are always in demand. The median sales price as well as the average sales price is up as inventory has decreased from 2014. New construction is a bit

limited but there seems to be a little more than in the past.” Gina expects, “A very healthy real estate market for the second half of the year.” Sheri Winter Clarry of Corcoran exclaims, “The first quarter of 2015 was nonstop! There has been a steady flow of traffic this summer.” She observes, “All segments of the market are active and every town has interest.” She states, “It is an excellent time to buy or sell, but we need more new construction! t’s time to savor the warm weather and glorious sunsets of summertime on the East End. After the seemingly endless bitter cold and snow we endured here this past winter, it’s time to unleash our inner beach bum. One way to make the most of summer this year, even when you’re not at the beach, is to create your own little tropical paradise at home. It’s easy to use tropical plants to turn your deck or patio into the perfect setting for a summer party, or just a quiet island of color and greenery where you can kick back with a book, take in the sunset or gaze at the stars. Many plants that come from tropical climes put on a brilliant show in our Long Island summers, and local nurseries stock them. Here are some ideas for bringing a touch of the tropics to your summer landscape. To get a tropical feeling, look for plants with flowers in bright, hot colors and great big, luxuriant leaves, and plant them in lush abandon. Tropicalismo is not about austerity or control. Forget clipped rose bushes and clipped hedges. Never mind pastel colors. Instead, for one glorious summer you can mix tropical trees and shrubs

with plants you may already know as houseplants and summer annuals, all in big pots and tubs and planters, or even in a garden bed. Group several together for a gardenlike effect. Remember, the key is mix lots of flowers and foliage.

will bloom all summer and well into fall, in a host of hot, bright reds, oranges, yellows and pinks; cactus dahlias, which have pointed petals, work especially well. In a shady spot, feature the colorful foliage of coleus or caladium.

Here’s how to do it. In the center of your pot or garden, place a tall plant, perhaps a hibiscus with large flowers of red, orange, peach, pink, yellow or white, or a brugmansia, or angel’s trumpet, which bears big, dangling trumpet flowers of pale apricot or soft yellow. Another option is a colorful vine trained on a tripod or trellis, perhaps mandevilla with its big pink trumpet flowers, or allamanda, with yellow ones, or an exotic passionflower. In a smaller tub or barrel, scale down: a canna with its big leaves and brilliant red or orange flowers could serve as the central focus there. In a shady spot use a palm or a philodendron vine trained on a moss-covered frame or upright slab of bark as the centerpiece.

Finish the planting with a lush edging of spilling, trailing plants such as lantana, calibrachoa (million bells) or sweet potato vine with chartreuse or deep purple-black leaves. These plants are widely available locally when the weather turns warm.

Around the tall central plant place voluminous mid-height plants, such as elephant’s ear (colocasia), split leaf philodendron, and houseplants like dieffenbachia or spathiphyllum (aka Chinese evergreen, seen on many an office desk). Dahlias

Don’t rush the season, though. Tropical plants can’t take cold weather, so don’t plant them outdoors until nighttime temperatures stay above 50 degrees. It is not unheard of to have a frost here late into May, but knowledgeable local nursery staff can give you advice. When your containers are planted, complete the scene with comfy lounge chairs and maybe a hammock, some tiki torches or lanterns, a fire pit or chiminea, and a cool tropical drink. Then sit back and enjoy the warm summer evenings in your private getaway.
