buyer of this home will get to enjoy incredible sunrises and sunsets from the privacy of their very own beach. This is an exceptional property that’s not to be missed. In this issue, Rachel Bosworth takes a closer look at Pantone’s 2019 color of the year – Living Coral. East End interior designers are gearing up to use this exciting tropical color to help bring the beach indoors. Pantone cited Living Coral as a color of carefree happiness. A press release says it “symbolizes our innate need for optimism and joyful pursuits.” Given today’s landscape — we couldn’t agree more! to something that feels less trendy and bold.” Described as emitting the desired, familiar, and energizing aspects of color in nature, Living Coral is multi-faceted in what it represents. It is elusive, vivid, and mesmerizing. It was chosen for 2019 in reaction to technology and social media’s overwhelming influence in daily life in an effort to renew the longed-for human connection. For interior designer James McAdam, Living Coral has always been color of the year. Adding a pop of coral makes a splash in North Fork décor, especially on the exterior. Think a coral-striped pool umbrella or piping on lounge chair cushions and pillows. It creates a bold yet elegant design and thought-provoking discussion. “When every other boy in high school had a crush on someone named Jane or Mary, I had a crush on Coral,” McAdam quips. “It’s like living inside a conch shell. From a crushed velvet wing chair to grasscloth wallpaper you can’t help but smile when you see the color coral.” Halstead Real Estate licensed real estate salesperson Timothy O’Connor has a background in the fashion industry and experience in interior design. While her personal style lends itself more towards neutral tones, Douglas Elliman licensed real estate salesperson and staging professional Sandra Wittich finds the color ideal for accessorizing a space. “I would use a real piece of coral in this color on top of a stack of neutral bound books on a coffee table or picture frames in this color on bookshelves,” she explains. “Incorporate pillows in this tone on a couch, bedroom or slipper chair to tie it into a room in a more subtle fashion.” Though the title of Color of the Year sets 20

The previous day, she’d styled the flowers for a Bridgehampton wedding in which her brief had been to create “minimalist centerpieces.” On that occasions, she chose starkly wonderful jasmine vines and stems of lisianthus and astilbes. But she had even less to work with at the East Hampton cottage. Challenged to make an arrangement out of “nothing,” she picked up a pair of scissors, walked on to the deck, dodged the conkers, went down the stairs and made for a privet hedge. Privet? Ten minutes later, she’d trimmed half a

dozen privet switches to size; and with the clarity of purpose of an ikebana master, she placed them one by one in a crescent-shaped vase. Slowly, slowly, an arrangement took shape. “You have to place them with intention,” she explained. “In winter, when nature is sparse, it makes sense for your arrangements to mirror the outdoors.” During the cold months, she’s partial to wintergreens, vines, mosses and papery birch branches, which employs in woodland themes. “I’m really into the ‘less-is-more’ approach,” she notes. “I like to do arrangements that look ‘found’ and not overly-arranged.” The finished arrangement was revelatory. As it happened, it didn’t look found at all. No, it looked as though a very gifted florist had seen the beauty in the ordinary and brought a small, gorgeous piece of nature into the room. www.sadiedesign.co
