ow how time flies and it is so hard to believe that we are getting ready for our 22nd annual Harvest of Excellence production sale! What an exciting group of cattle that we have assembled from our genetics. The boys have all been working hard on this group and we are very happy to say that this is the deepest set from top to bottom that we have ever had.! If you are looking for one to take home and make a cow out of or looking for a contender in the show ring we have what you need. As always we are loaded with Chi’s and Maine’s but are always excited to offer a couple Angus and a few other breeds. We invite you to browse the pages of this catalog and take a look at our girls.
If you know us, you know family is at the core of what we do everyday. When you buy from us you become part of our family and we wouldn’t have it any other way. We treat your kids like our own and love that our customers create a bond and closeness with our family that goes much further than the show ring. With all this being said, we sat down together and came up with the idea of creating an event where our customers can come spend time together with us as one big cattle family. We also want to have an environment where people can enjoy each others company without the pressure of a show and to help them learn more about the things we do day-today to prepare for the cattle shows. This has led us to our first ever Show Cattle Family Camp. We are inviting every family who buys an animal
from us to our show barn in April for an event you do not want to miss. Brad, Tyler, and Kurtis will be providing hands on practice in different areas of showing cattle. We will also have games and time to hang out and get to know one another. We will start the event on Friday night with a wonderful meal. We are extremely excited about this opportunity to get to know our customers better and to help you learn and ask questions. We want to encourage your entire family to come to make memories together. More details will be given as we arrive closer to the date. Don’t forget to add this to your Spring calendar. While we could talk about this elite group all day we invite you to stop by the farm and see them for yourselves. We will be here for you to discuss your needs and available all year as you take these heifers on the road to the shows. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday November 3rd. As always lunch will be served beginning at 11:00 am. May God richly bless you and yours this Fall! To Him be the glory! See you at the sale!

Selecting our lot one for the sale is quite the task, but each year we try to highlight a new and upcoming donor in our program. This year is a special one, a few short years ago this incredible heifer calf’s mother was our lot one. We are thrilled to have this female carry on her mother’s tradition. The thing we can hang our hat on is predictability and this cow family is a “no miss” for us. Two years ago, I was in Modoc at the Cates family Christmas and Tyler took me to the barn to show me his new purchase Watchout. I was in awe of an Angus bull that brought so many positive things to the table. We soon knew we had to use this bull. You will see several other females in the offering that are phenomenal as well. This mating is everything we dreamt of. When you add the look and power from the Who Da Man line of genetics and all of the volume and trendy look of an angus, you will have a special creature.

If you have followed our sales in the past, you have seen some amazing females out of our Y Not cow. This year may be the very best set of them yet and that’s a big statement considering what all this cow has produced. We know how good these Chiangus cows are and what they have done for us over the years, but we now feel the rest of the industry is finding the same love for them. With the craze for the angus sired females we feel there is no better way to do so with a clean maternal cow on the bottom side. These heifer calves have what it takes to win year around at any level. They are so correct, balanced and functional in there build while having that added look and power. Not to mention when mating these three no matter what you will still have a high % chi.

his Fu Man Chu daughter is one of the most special lots in the sale. She is consigned by the Vickrey Family from Warren, Indiana. This heifer goes back to a cow the Vickrey’s purchased in the fall of 2011 sale here at Winegardner’s. Dalaney exhibited her at the 2011 Hoosier Beef Congress where she was named Champion Commercial Heifer and went on to be Reserve Grand Overall. While this cow doesn’t seem that significant, the sale of this Fu Man Chu daughter is. 50% of the final sale of this heifer will be donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation in the name of Dalaney’s Destiny Makers.
improve the quality of life for those with CF and ultimately to find a cure. These generous donations have allowed the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation to build their own top notch research facility because of every donation given 90% is dedicated to research. Because of this state of the art facility, many new FDA approved drugs have been brought to the market and everyday a cure is closer to becoming reality. To date, through the support of the Livestock Industry, Dalaney’s Destiny Makers have raised nearly $250,000 to be put towards this research and finding a cure to a disease that effects the lives of many.
When Dalaney was 14 months old she was diagnosed with Cystic Fibrosis. A terminal disease that affects the functions of the lungs, pancreas, liver and digestive system. At the time of diagnosis, the average life expectancy was 18 years old. This was very devastating news to both family and friends of Dalaney. However, in true Vickrey fashion, sitting on the sidelines and worrying about what was yet to come wasn’t in the cards. After much research, it was discovered that there was no Government funding for Cystic Fibrosis. All research funding came from donations throughout the world. Through the Great Strides organization, Dalaney’s Destiny Makers was formed. The Fort Wayne area chapter recently recognized DDM as the longest running group they had. Funds donated to the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation help develop new drugs to fight the disease,
Dalaney has made a name for herself in the Livestock world. Whether on the end of a halter, a pig whip or digging into the firm brace of a show lamb, her showmanship skills and knowledge of the industry demand attention. This December, she will reach the coveted mark of 18 years old. The most feared age when she was diagnosed with this disease nearly 17 years ago. With the drive of this family and this young woman, they have helped to raise a tremendous amount of money to go towards this research than has now stretched that life expectancy by more than 20 more years. By purchasing this heifer, you not only give yourself the opportunity to tie in to a really special show heifer and cow prospect but you also help to give hope to many more kids that someday a cure will be found.
