CRICKETER VIRAT KOHLI RESIDENCE

2014-2015

Mr. Kohli Residence

RESIDENCE DESIGN Location- Gurgaon Area- 500 Square Yards

The Residence started in 2012 along with the architecture part as well. The essence of the residence is showcasing power with contemporary lines and colors all over the house. The family and the house both showcase male dominance, thus justifying our designs. The house has 4 floors, out of which 3 floors are contemporary and only a floor being playful and colorful. The residence is as well a Green Building and has been rated ‘ Gold’ as well. The residence is still ‘UNDER COMPLETION’ stage.

My Role -

The residence was still at a constructional level when I joined the project. I started the project as an Assistant Designer, but eventually looked after all the aspects individually. - Good for construction drawings for all Areas. - Material Procurement and dealing with vendors - Project Management - Furniture Designing/ Proposal/ Shop Drawings of furniture for the space - Client handling - Interior Styling

PG ACCOMMODATION FOR GIRLS Location- 17/7 Shakti Nagar, New Delhi Area- 242.7 Square Yards A PG accommodation for teenage girls has been proposed for the site having close proximity to Delhi University Area and Kamla Nagar Market, thus making it a beneficial location. A thorough research on existing paying guest accommodation for girls was done to understand the general requirements and the various issues and problems they face. It was observed that Pgs have a highly competitive market in that area. Thus, the Pg’s were made as self sufficient as possible.

Experiential Strategy -

A PG accommodation is a culturally rich and diverse environment bringing together all the culturally diverse people. I have proposed a standard layout for a PG accommodation to be applied to all the PGs. The main motto of the design is to force social interaction between the culturally diverse people integrating them into an equal and democratic environment and providing them a space for personalization as well. The space aims at making a person feel at home with an efficient and rich design merging areas for forced interactions and combining them emotionally with a strategic spatial planning and interiors of the space.

PG ACCOMMODATION FOR GIRLS Lower Ground Floor-

A casual dining area with an innovative seating arrangement has been proposed, even the furniture layout of this space has been designed as such that the residents interact as much as possible. Also, the entry to the premises starts from the dining area, so that there is visual as well as social coherence between the people passing by and the people sitting there. The owner’s cabin has been given a separate entry so that it does not disturb the private space of the girls, but a window has been proposed between the cabin and the dining area for the owner to keep a check on the space.

PG ACCOMMODATION FOR GIRLS

Ground Floor

As one moves from Lower ground to ground floor, the person enters into visually forced interactive space, that is the television lounge. The furniture of the lounge has been designed according to the dynamics of verbal interaction. Even the lounge has a wooden ledge staircase in one of the junctions to keep food or some liquid. A small pantry has been proposed as teenagers of this generation are likely to sleep late, thus for their benefits and use. Keeping social coherence as main aim, each space has been made either social (bathroom, lounge, pantry, front balcony) or semi-social (shared bedrooms, corridor, staircase), but the fact that everyone needs a persona space too, an exclusive idea of having a phone booth has been designed, for giving the residents a completely secluded and soundproof place to themselves, at the rear balcony because it is the corner of the house. Apart from the phone booths, the bedrooms have an alcove for each resident to customize or accessorize it according to their likes. It has been made sure to provide them a home like lifestyle in a PG so, that they do not feel away from home.

Residence Design 4BHK Apartment design for a Nuclear Marwari Family

Baheti’s Niwas

2014

Baheti’s Niwas

Residence Designing Client-Mr. Ajay Baheti Location - M2K Victoria Gardens, Near Azadpur Metro Station Area - 2200 square yards Designed with a Madalsa Soni Status- Ongoing, expected to complete by end of 2014

Concept-

To design a multi dwelling residence for a nuclear Marwari family by understanding the needs and requirements. The family was studied thoroughly to give them a space perfect to them. The family has three generations to deal and understand i.e. eldest being the retired father, his son and daughter in law ( Mr. Ajay Baheti and his wife ), and his grand kids( 16 year old daughter and 22 year old son). The Family is really religious and conservative, with a little orthodox, which came as a challenge since they were not very comfortable while accepting changes. The client had extreme focus on taking out maximum storage spaces.

Baheti’s Niwas

Residence Designing

Drawing and Dining Area As one enters the house, they open their foot wears immediately at the door, thus a fancy Show cabinet is placed at the entrance. Opening foot wears is a very famous ritual amongst the marwari families. Then seating for two people is proposed making the space welcoming and comfortable. For a religious family like that of Mr. Baheti, mandir is the most important part of the house. thus, breaking the monotony of using wooden and marble carvings, metal jaali with a niche was proposed to enhance the aesthetical appeal of the space, making it unique. A combination of turquoise, plum, purple, grey and brown with metallic silver, golden and copper has been used, to make the space lively and colorful. Towards the dining shades of purple with white and brown veneer have been combined, while in the drawing room, greys, browns with turquoise have been amalgamated.

Dining Space

The entrance to the kitchen is kept from the dining space for easy accessibility and privacy. Also, to break the visual entrance by the guests in the drawing room.

A simple design was proposed for the room, while the study table has been given a unique shape to highlight it. The room has a combination of bright colors with white as well to balance the color scheme of the space. Only polished finishes have been proposed and no metallic finishes were proposed to provide a different feel of the room altogether. A pebble tray with LED strip inside has been given to provide a soothing effect in the room , beneath the bed.

Hypothetical Green Office Design Location - Sultanpur, Gurgaon Area - 355 square yards Group Project

Design Brief- To propose a Sustainable office design for an Interior Designer’s based company ‘Designaholic’, whose facade faces the Metro Station. The Facade of the premises is completely glazed. Concept - The basic strategy behind is ‘An Idea’ expressed through a lit bulb spreading light and colors throughout the space which is radially arranged. The Ceiling has been used specifically to segregate each department into different colors. Primary colors have been used to express Private areas, Secondary for semi-social areas and tertiary for social areas.

Recessed Ceiling Plan

The ceiling represents the spatial division through colours such that the ‘BULB’ shaped reception being the beginning and in the centre , and the concentric acrylic flat tubes flowing from the reception , making the idea flow through the office . Rear Exit

Common Interactive Spaces

The beginning starts with a white color as marking the beginning of the space. From there, every color originates leading to another space, enlightening the space throughout with energy and ideas. The office has been divided to mostly 3 zones namely Administrative, Creative and Director’s zone. Cabins for the design team members, design heads, administration staff, IT and printing have been strategically placed near the windows for efficiency as these consume maximum energy.

Designaholic

Hypothetical Green Office Design The experiential strategy of the space is such that when a person enters the office, the person is directed to the reception allowing visual permeability into the design team and towards the rear exit. The reception also receives sunlight because of this visual permeability. The highly private zones like the founder’s and directors cabins have complete privacy disabling visual permeability into any area. While inside the design zone, the heads have a cabin to themselves, but there is a glass divider between the team members and the head integrating them visually and spreading sunlight through glass. For sustain ability, a thorough study on sustainable materials was made and applied. Even the acrylic boxes on the ceiling have an LED strip going throughout the tube. Each person to have a planter on their tables. White Reception Area has been used mostly for reflecting light throughout the space saving energy.

Retail Design Exotic Spices And Condiments Store

The Spice Route

2012

The Spice Route

SPICES AND CONDIMENTS STORE Location- DLF Promenade Mall, Vasant Kunj, New Delhi Area- 100 Square Yards

Group Project

Concept- Taking us back in time, reminding us of the markets where the spices were traditionally traded.

The inspiration is from the spice trade across the world.

Spice Route is a tribute to the pioneering spirit of explorers and traders who braved all odds in search of the finest and most exotic spices and herbs. Spice Route is a premium range of exotic spices and herbs from around the world, produced through a combination of traditional wisdom and modern techniques.

Experiential Strategy -The motto was to create an environment taking us back in time reminding us of the markets where the spices were traditionally traded. The most basic and essential elements of the spices have been used that is the trade route. A live counter for making and mixing the spices and pickles is shown with the traditional storage containers that were used in the earlier times. A world map is displayed on the wall showing the various spice trade routes and the major countries where some exotic spices were found in abundance.

The Spice Route

SPICES AND CONDIMENTS STORE The retail store has been designed as such that the person entering the store has an overall visual coherence with the complete store. The theme is focusing on all the earthy materials which is very neutral and close to the earth. The spices are kept open for a person to feel and smell the grains. Thus, the conditioning is planned in a very systematic manner so that the smell travels but not the powder. The main idea behind suggesting the spice route was to locate the materials according to their location of origin near the world map. Also, the store is at the beginning of the mall, catching a lot of eyes, thus, the exterior was kept visually transparent, trying to stimulate visual attraction.

View of the store from the Activity Zone

An activity zone was also proposed where the workers can just sit and beat or filter spices in the area. The main idea behind the activity zones is to attract ladies roaming with their kids in the mall and also for them to connect to the traditional way spices and pickles were acquired in their homes. The store is connected to a south Indian Restaurant through a lobby space acting as a Transition space between the store and the restaurant. View of the store from the Entrance

Modular Kitchen Design

Freelance Project- Consultancy

Location- Puru Apartments , Rohini, New Delhi Area- 81.5 Square Feet Client- A Retired Couple in their seventies

Design Brief-

To convert the kitchen into modular units and to integrate maximum storage possible for the space. It is a small kitchen in a 2 bedroom apartment in Rohini.

Concept-

To modify the kitchen into a modular space and extract optimum storage space. The main motto was to make it user friendly and easily accessible to the old couple, without compromising with the aesthetic appeal of the space. Also, it was kept in mind to use light colors for the overall kitchen for visual expansion of the space, whereas a few spaces were given a darker color scheme so that they do not reflect dirt too much.

Modular Kitchen Design

Freelance Project- Consultancy

Before After

Duration- 15 days Strategy-

The basic idea was to study the circulation pattern of the user in the space, ( which areas she uses more, which areas she uses less), thus, the major changes were to propose storage cabinets, to reposition the serving slab, so that the refrigerator fixes inside well.
