FASHION HOUSE LOCATION : MIAMI PROFESSOR : GREGORY STROH TEAM: SHREYA PATEL AND ASHLEY AUSTIN

The main objective of the studio was to investigate the notion of integrates/shared assembly systems developed through material assemblies, structural configurations and environmental condtitions with emphasis on performance and form situated within multiple contectual conditions Miami’s Design District is home to some of the most recognizable names in the world: Cartier, Dior, Versace, and many more. But what do all these brands have in common and how is this model sustainable within our current cultural condition? What sets these high-end experiences apart from common retail purchasing and other luxury brands is a carefully choreographed cultivation of image through intricate nuances of presentation and shrewd marketing - a subtext of luxury and exclusivity. The design directive for these spaces is singular and focused, showcasing exclusive products in an environment that communicates a carefully crafted image to the consumer. The design focus revolves around curated display, such as in a museum, with a play of visual connection between sectional spaces & programs, generating a sense of curiosity while coercing attention to the brand, playing upon the motif of exclusivity.

ABUNDANCE SCARCITIES LOCATION : KENT PROFESSOR : ROZANA MONITEL AND SANA FRINI TEAM: SHREYA PATEL AND ZUZANA KUBISOVA

Abundance Scarcities was an experimental studio run by two mexican architects - Rozana Monitel and Sana Frini. The main objective of this studio was to define Abundance and scarcities in our city through parameters of sustainibility, materials, time, clients, costs, production practices and communication policies. and based on the found scarcities design a prototype to address them. The studio was divided into tow parts : Research was a major part of this studio. From the drawn conclusions by all the teams a site was selected for an intevention and the proposal was made by team of 15 students which was later built in full scale by the team on site for 24 hours and observations were made about the usage of space by community. Our approach on Abundance and Scarcities was based on sustainibility in kent and the goal was to study the dicotomy between sustainable and non sustainable practicies in the city and to find solutions that might bridge the gap between the both. We approached abundance and scarcities as fullness and emptiness.

PROPOSED INTERVENTIONS

The definition of Abundance and Scarcity depends on how we percieve it. The moon cycle here represents the cyclic nature of the terms. Emptiness and fullness exists on polar ends in an idealworld and are never steady, Abundance and scarcity of any given commodity is cyclic.

In terms of kent as a community we identified a few actors that played an important role in really making the community sustainable ot not and analysed them in terms of domains of our definition od sustainibility and resilience and developed these two matrix that shows their positive and negative impacts on the community.

Kent as a city had may dichotomies in terms of sustainability in various parts. after we identified these areas of fullness and emptiness we turned them into icons and mapped the full and empty parts on a map where we can see the clear disconnect between different contexts.

The background research from the teams was compared and after a number of discussions and debates a conclusion was made that an intervention can be made withn the college campus to bring the community together in an effort to erase the disconnect betweeen the locals of the city and students of Kent State university. The esplanade is a walkway that connects the entiriety of campus and out interventiomn was to change the definition of this walkway where people can not only walk but also pause and interact with each others. we curated several pause points as the whole design and then picked one point which connecetd the architecutre vuilding, the esplanade and the parking lot to create a plaza for one day which would not only seve as a connector between the physical building anf parking but also blur the lines and activate the space.

THE LARRY NEIGHBORHOOD LOCATION : CLEAVELAND PROFESSOR : TARANEH MESHKANI

COVID-19 changed the way of lives of world population. Because most traditional workspaces are not conducive to social distancing, many have shut down. Companies around the globe have been forced to shift toonline platforms. This sudden change in societal behavior has questioned the physical office space. This project looked into designing of a new Twitter headquarters in cleaveland keeping in mind the new normal. I analyzed tech campuses’ megastructure through economic, technological, historical, political, and societal trajectories. Instead of proposing a new insular corporate campus, the students are asked to imagine new formal and programmatic strategies to design a neighborhood that blends live and work based on the needs of its residents and the existing site and its surroundings. The post industrial parcels along the cuyahoga river were initially analyzed to find the best location for the site. Through research i proposed the programetic requirements for the larry neighborhood and then proposed the urban blocks. one building from these blocks was detailed out as the end product.

A SPACE TO HEAL LOCATION : SAPUTARA, INDIA PROFESSOR : RAHUL PATEL

In modern ager and time, we tend to find it harder and harder to cope with stresses that come with the ever shifting social requirements that oversome our lives. The main objective for this project was to explore hoe architecture can help in process of getting well and attaining mental peace. The aim was to design a wellness center that works to improve the physical and mental wellbeing of peple by creating an environment that promotes healing through various programs within the built environment and explore how man made structure situated in an natural environment could enhance the mantal and physical wellbeing of people. The literature studied for desertation aimed to identify a set of criteria including light, color, matrials etc to create guidelines for creating suitable healing spaces. The site was located on hilly terrain at Saputara which is located in Gujarat, India. The parcel of land was awaay from human settlement in midst of a protected forest and hence served as an ideal location for the center.

RIVER EDGE DEVELOPMENT LOCATION : SURAT, INDIA PROFESSOR : ADVAITA JALAN, MONAL MISTRY, ATISH PATEL

All the major cites of world are built around rivers . Rivers are sources of water and were once ameans to transportaton. One such city that flourished on bank of river Tapi is Surat but, due to modernizaton and expansion of city the river has lost its importance and the project is about revitalizaton of the river edge via constructng a river front in the Adajan area of the city. The vision for the area is to provide development that enhances the community life, by providing recreatonal spaces through river edge improvements and to make area more comfortable for the users. Due to damming of river huge amount of silt has accumulated on the river bed and during monsoon regular flooding occurs in the area. Moreover, the road adjoining the site is encroached by street vendors. Due to lack of aminites nearby people has stopped coming to the river bank and the river has lost all its importance in the city. This brings a whole new potential to design a communal space for the people of city to come together.
