Pork Vindaloo Originated from Portuguese, it is a combination of wine and alho (garlic). The dish can be prepared from pork, chicken or lamb, tough Goa is famous for Pork Vindaloo, whose meat is marinated in chillies, ginger, garlic and cumin paste and then mixed with vinegar and cooked till meat turns tender.

Chicken Xacuti Delectable and luscious Xacuti gravy, which is a thick paste with the flavour of dried chilies, white poppy seeds, and roasted coconut, is a must have in Goa. The spicy gravy tastes simply heavenly with crab and chicken though it can be savoured with lamb and vegetables as well.


Kalputi Best savoured with hot steamed rice, this kokum, and coconut flavoured dish is a preparation of flesh obtained from fish’s tail and head. Mackeret, pomfret and king fish are local variants for preparing this spicy curry, Kalputi.

Patoleo This sweet, tantalising delicacy is not only a treat for vegetarians but for weight-watchers too. Prepared using rice dough, this dessert is filled with jaggery and coconut mixture that’s coated with turmeric leaves and then steamed. It’s a speciality at St. John’s Feast.
