Goa’s Beaches – Backpackers Paradise Goa’s pristine beaches make it difficult for first time visitors to choose their favourite beach spot as every beach has a different vibe and attracts different kind of travellers. My selection of the finest beaches for independent travellers and backpackers are Arambol, Anjuna and Vagator in the North and Palolem and Agonda in the South. The serene beaches of Mandrem, Ashwem and Morjim are also worth visiting if you are looking for a chilled out experience with many great yoga schools around. Hereare some of the must-visit beaches for Backpackers travelling to Goa: Arambol Arambol is a backpacker’s haunt with loads of beach huts, hippie clothing stalls and natural healingcentres around the vicinity. Arambol (also known as Harmala) is considered the beach of choice for many long-staying budget-minded travellers in the north.
Anjuna and Vagator Anjuna and Vagator were beaches that became popular in the 60’s but they still are a great choice today for budget travellers and you will still find some of the hippies here! Vagator has 3 beautiful beaches which are a bit rocky but offer stunning views over the charismatic red Goan cliff. Anjuna beach on the other hand is more sandy and is a better place to swim.
Palolem Palolem is blessed with a calm turquoise seawhich is perfect for swimming. It is also embellished with a white crescent beach backed with palm trees and colourful yet affordable beach huts. It is one of Goa's best beaches and it does not have a lot of hippie crowd what one would usually find up north. You could also try Patnembeach next door which is beautiful and a lot morequieter.
Agonda Agonda has a great sandy beach that gives you a rustic, laid back vibe; it is a secluded setting not too far from Palolem. Agonda has only been recently discovered and has some great beach huts for the budget traveller. Although it does not have much of nightlife, Agonda makes for a great getaway or weekend escape.
