SITE ANALYSIS

SITE ANALYSIS NATURAL FACTORS 1. geological base and landforms 2. topography - maps, slope analysis, reading topography, contours, spot elevations, conventions, drainage 3. soils - classification of types, texture and characteristics 4. hydrography - streams, lakes, swamps, water table, flood plain, watershed, aquifer, surface drainage 5. climate factors - sun, wind, and precipitation/orientation to, comfort envelope/ orientation 6. vegetation - trees, shrubs, vines, and ground covers 7. wildlife - those little and big critters that live and pass through and over the sea

The following theory is based on:

concept

geometry

plans

Main concept : Swarming and Wind

WIND What is wind? It is the perceptible natural movement of the air, especially in the form of a current of air blowing from a particular direction. How is it created? The wind is created by different parts of the surface by the earth are dissimilarly heated by the sun. The winds are directed from the points having high barometric( high pressure to the points with low barometric ( low pressure). During this movement they are diverted to the right on the Northern hemisphere because of the rotation of the Earth( forces Coriolis).

swarming What is swarming? It is the process of depositing many small fiber particles ( called swarm) onto a surface. It can also refer to the texture produced by the process, or to any material used primarily for the purpose of increasing its value in terms of the tactile sensation, aesthetics, color and appearance. In can also be performed or functional reasons including insulation, slip or grip friction, and low reflectivity. for example : a body of bees settled together, as in a hive. : similar to birds flocking along with groups.

exploring the taxonomy of a bird structure to possible relations, on the idea of making model : reputation, forming, tessellation and sectioning

FIRST ITERATION

this is the first model of how i figured out to get through to make the assignment on creating the ecological center. it is hard for me to think about the idea of creating it at first on the model, trying to tackle along with it. the model is also seemed incomplete as i was not assure of how i should start and express the natural form clearly.

SECOND ITERATION

iteration two is made with balsa wood. this is my first time of using wood for my model making so i did not figured out that it can be bent in the water after a few minutes. so i made the model without bending it but it does not go with the natural form i choose. -Swarming and Wind

SIDE VIEW OF SECOND ITERATION

the ecological center can be with different colorful lights. therefore, i put on some light on my model with just one color of light and try to figuring out how it will work, whether there is a change of look when i apply on some filters on different color.

EXPLORATION ON THE RAMPING SYSTEM

THIRD ITERATION

the third model express the flow of wind and the swarming action of the natural form that i chose. i curled up the bass wood and figure out the form of what i wanted represent based on my rough sketches and some ideas. I also create ramps on the model in which i wanted to carry along with the levels of stories while i am improving my the model.

IN PROGRESS FOR THE FINAL ITERATION

FINAL ITERATION (step2)

length = 20

width = 15.5

this is the final model that i created. i wanted to express the form of swarming and the wind form so i went through this flow of structure. I do not wanted to bring many materials on the model and look chaotic. that is why I only wanted to use bass wood for my model to make it look simple and plain. the model includes 3 stories and an extended room on side after all.
