https://switchcompetition.com/winter-pavilion-london-results/
Brief: The Winter Pavilion London is an international competition set to create a multi-usage pavilion in the emblematic Hyde Park that can connect people, nature and architecture. The pavilion should celebrate and capture the essence of winter landscape by hosting different activities that would invigorate the zone. With its privileged location, the objective of the pavilion is to become a cultural and leisure reference point for inhabitants and visitors of the city, a space that is integrated in the natural environment of the park and that is flexible enough to adapt to and promote wide variety of fun winter activities on a moderate scale. The pavilion should enhance the olfactory, tactile and visual experiences of the visitors. The pavilion space should have an immersive architectural quality that would let people reflect on the tangible and intangible components of a natural habitat. The pavilion should let people be one with nature and absorb the natural winter landscape through the artificial volume. Concept Sketch 8

Soul Of Beirut Memorial
Soul Maze
Brief: The Souls of Beirut Memorial is an international competition set to represent several aspects following the tragic explosion that took place in Beirut Port on the 4th of August.
Render : Evening View 13
SOUL MAZE No matter what we do, what we build. We cannot honour the souls we lost. Some say after death, our soul moves on to a realm beyond human imaginations. Some might disagree. But whatever we do. We can commonly acknowledge the emptiness that we feel, the memories that they left behind, and the values they stood for.
We felt that a place, which embraces all these complicated human emotions and translates it into space. A place, that can truly symbolize, what this memorial stands for. The ‘Soul maze’ stands as a labyrinth to convey these complicated emotions. The columns stand nameless as if they weren’t made in the memory of the people who were lost but for the people who were left behind. The clear and transparent nature of the glass stands in for a soul, clear, transparent, transpa and at peace, just like a soul should be, devoid of any impurity. The reflection makes us realize what we lost was a part of us and what was left of us. Eventually, these columns fade into the sea, reminding us of the value of lost souls but also to move on, for a new tomorrow must come just like a wave in the ocean. After the explosion on the 4th of August 2020, we did not just lose more than 200 souls, but all hope was lost, for the city, and the whole country. The ‘Soul maze’ stands as new hope.

Brief: The project was to develop an Urban Design model that can be scaled up and replicated throughout the city to create a universal new identity while solving the present problem as well as the problem that may arise in future by studying the trends and pattern of the current urban fabric and development. The model has to promote pedestrian scaled environments and propose built form that is sensitive in scale with the surrounding community. Connect to the upcoming metro station and strengthen the urban development pattern while creating a new urban landmark. It also has to be economically sustainable in the long term and provide an efficient pedestrian network. 18

01 The entry to the metro station is provided with “Commuters Plaza” for its strategic location and revenue generating opportunities. The island was designed with Auto-Rickshaw bay so that the commuters don’t have to cross the street everytime to access them. Interactive bollards and planes were placed to make it a less confusing space and better accessible.
01
02 The whole experience is designed to be utilitarian in nature and captivating for young generations. The street in front of the mall was converted into a pedestrian only zone with “Ad Tower” as the major landmark. The “Synth Museum” was introduced below the flyover for youth and late night crowds. This mix development creates new and refreshing community space along the river while promoting ages old and proven river transportation that the city used to run on from the starting days of the jute golden era and before. The old structure is put to use carefully to promote jute use in mainstream and the essence of the place is preserved while making it more about the experience and values of the communities around. 26

Brief: The project acts as a model that can be replicated throughout the city to revive the dying community in and around old abandoned jute industry. By having a combination of luxury and affordable (MIG & LIG) housing with retail, community and exhibition spaces, it acts as a catalyst to promote a diverse and functioning community that is sustainable both in economic and environmental terms..

Revit + Twinmotion Part 01: The past and the present. Once the epicentre of culture and commerce, these now-abandoned jute mills were the backbone of Calcutta’s industrial heritage. From the dawn of the jute industry, Calcutta saw people from many neighbouring states from all kinds of cultural backgrounds drawn to the footsteps of its industrial activity. Cheap migrant labour force and a large supply of raw jute meant industry growing from its first Jute Mill in 1855 to 64th in the late 20th century at the bank of Hooghly river. The migrant people who came with the rise of industrial activities stayed even when the glorious days were over for jute industry and with people stayed their culture, a culture that is very much interlaced with the river (hooghly). When the factories were running and money was good, everything was ok, but after the independence things changed with raw jute supply cut because of the partition and creation of a new country in east bengal, Bangladesh (formerly East Pakistan). More than half of these jute mills now lay abandoned in heart of calcutta and its suburbs, home to anti-social activities and with close doors, a barrier to the culture heritage of all the migrant people who stayed in the hope of mills opening again and their interaction with the river (especially during festival season). Communities around the mill still sit in the nostalgia of the 20th century, hoping for better days and facilities as their living conditions further deteriorate into the darkness.

Part 02: A Future Beyond Jute Mills. The past few decades or so saw Calcutta expansion to the east and south of the horizon, with a focus on the mid and high riser as the solution for accommodating millions but the same decades saw administration negligence towards communities depended on Jute Mills and related activities. Having so much of the abandoned mill industrial land is like having superpower for a city like calcutta. Much of the Jute Mills sits on prime location making them the target of land sharks to convert them into real estate. Real estate is the wish of many jute mill owners as well. Housing Society behind closed walls may sound good to some developers but a part of the city that does not give back the local community does not sustain too well. A more sustainable approach could be something that generates revenue for both the mill owners and the communities dependent on them. As part of our model the project is designed as an urban catalyst to generate opportunities. By having a user group divided into people living in the high end housing complex and people coming for exhibition or other ticketed events or the general public that will come to enjoy the promenade and the plaza, creates a dynamic heterogeneous relationship across the socio-economical border that promotes a vivid atmosphere. With the plaza, promenade, amphitheater and river pool creating a string of public places, the whole area boosts the scope of various activities, both in terms of economics and recreation. 30
