As we kick-off the 2013-2014 school year, I would like to schedule another “Community Conversation” meeting. Over the last five years I have had the opportunity to host several “Community Conversation” events to learn more about what interested community members see as the strengths of Saline Area Schools, and what areas they felt we needed to focus attention on for improvement. Through these conversations and other opportunities, I have learned a great deal about how many of you see our district and it has helped guide me, along with the Board of Education, as we move forward.

Career and Technical education programs prepare the students for a broad range of employment and training services and are offered under the guidance of certified teachers, counselors, cooperative education and special population coordinators. The student’s selection of a career and technical education course in no way would prevent him or her from furthering their education beyond high school. The courses are full-year courses, open primarily to juniors and seniors. Interested students must complete an application form that can be acquired from the counselor or the South and West Washtenaw Consortium office. Additional program materials are available in the guidance office or from the instructors.

1. For the safety of all students, we ask that you say goodbye at the front entrance of the school. By reducing hallway traffic in the morning to only students and staff we can better ensure the safety of all of our children.

2. Students should not be dropped off before the 8:35 each morning.

3. If you are dropping your child off at school, please remember the drop off loop is a 7-second drop-off; children should exit the vehicle ONLY on the curbside of the loop.

4. There is no parking in the drop-off loop 5. The drop-off loop is a very busy place each morning, if your child has a project or several items to carry in please consider parking and walking your child to the sidewalk where they can safely walk to the front door We have had several changes to our staff for this fall. Sept. 3 - First day of school! 7:45 - 2:30 Mom2Mom Consignment Sale This will be the 6th sale held at Liberty School in Saline, which is organized and directed by local Saline Resident and mother of two, Teresa Ferenczy. This sale is held twice a year in the spring and fall and is a huge draw for sellers and buyers alike.

This is not your typical mom to mom sale where buyers stop by individual tables and owners sit and sell their items. This sale is different in that it makes it very easy for shoppers and buyers by having the sale run in a “department” style. Sellers drop off their items on Friday, September 20 between 3-6pm and the staff and volunteers of the sale sort and organize all the clothing by gender and size in one large room. There is a separate room for toys and large items as well as so many other items like books, baby gear, maternity, etc..The sale is on Saturday from 9-2. Entry fee is $1.00 for adults, from 9-noon and then from noon-2:00, everyone is free. After the sale sellers can pick up their unsold items or have them donated to a local organization. They will receive check within 10 days for their items sold. This sale is growing and growing every year. Due to space, there are only a limited amount of sellers at each sale. As for shoppers....get there early on Saturday for all the best deals.

August 19, 2013, Leesburg,Va. – Alex Pazkowski of Saline, Michigan and a student at Washtenaw Community College in Ann Arbor, Michigan represented the United States in Leipzig, Germany during the biennial WorldSkills Competition and won a Silver Medal in the Welding competition. Pazkowski, competing as a member of the United States “WorldTeam” also won “Best in Nation.” The 42nd international event was held July 2-7, 2013.

Pazkowski credits his instructor, Dave Jodway at Saline High School in Saline, Michigan, with laying the foundation for his love and passion for welding. “I had the pleasure of being Alex Pazkowski’s welding instructor from 2007 to 2009,” said Dave Jodway. “Alex was extremely motivated and had an extremely high aptitude for learning the craft of welding and he was the most dedicated and hard-working student I’ve ever had the pleasure of instructing.”

You can help keep Saline’s trees glowing! Do you love to see the twinkling lights on the trees lining our snow-blanketed streets in winter? They bring cheer to Downtown Saline all season long. More than 50 of our 78 lighted trees are now in urgent need of trimming. To make it happen, we have removed the lights from the trees this spring, and we hope to replace the lights in fall.
