SALLIE MACK SURVIVES, ENJOYS LIFE AND LIBERTY Lady Liberty could be the name for two leading ladies. Lady Liberty, the airplane, was built in 1941 for the Civilian Pilot Training program, getting pilots ready to serve in World War II. Model Sallie Mack of Satellite Beach proudly posed in Lady Liberty when it appeared at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum at TICO Airport in Titusville this past December for the 2012 Boomer Senior Guide. She experienced a fight for freedom as well, winning a battle with the big C. “I was diagnosed with Stage 3 cancer seven years ago and given a 20 percent chance to live. It was a tough few years for me. There are a lot of people I know now that don’t know about it. I don’t like people to feel sorry for me,” she said. Instead, Mack takes from the experience a renewed joy for life and pride that she was able to overcome a very serious illness in part due to a good personal attitude.
Mack has been in real estate for many years, starting in New York City where she went to make her fortune after graduating with an accounting degree from the University of Wisconsin at Madison. “I was born and grew up in Wisconsin and went to New York City to find my fame and ended up living there 16 years. After college, I’ve always been involved with real estate,” she said. Mack has weathered the ups and downs of the real estate business, and the economy as well as her health. The same sage advice rings true for both. “I learned that it doesn’t matter what they tell you, the most important thing is don’t give up.” 5|

PUBLISHER’S NOTE Last year, when I first started thinking about the 2012 Boomer Senior Guide, the first thing that came to mind was how many people contacted us on how much they liked seeing people they knew in the 2011 issue. I knew then that we should encourage other Brevard residents to participate and become models, if only for a day. Our first premise was that “The Boomer Senior Guide Launch Party and Expo” should be hosted at a destination location that would add a special ambiance to the event. Three things came to mind: how supportive the local businesses have always been, presence of the Greatest Generation, and a favorite place in Brevard County: the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville. For years, I have enjoyed the air shows held each March at the VAC. What a thrill to watch the spectacular aerobatic displays or even to take a ride in one of the vintage aircraft. It’s always interesting to talk with the pilots and historians who are there. I wanted to share my enthusiasm for this “nonprofit museum” that collects, restores and revels in aviation history. The hangar would be large enough to hold many visitors and would provide free access to the museum for our readers. Often, I’ve heard people say they “hoped to go to the museum one day,” so we have arranged for transportation from the Viera/Melbourne area. While planning we realized how much fun a retro photo shoot would be. The historical airplanes and automobiles housed in the VAC hangars made the perfect backdrop for resident models, dressed in uniforms and wardrobes from that bygone era. Thanks to all who helped make it possible. It was fun, and we learned so much about people who were our models and I even heard interesting stories from some of the tour guides and airplane owners who call the VAC their “home-awayfrom-home.” These stories, and more, can be found in the following pages. I hope you enjoy this year’s Boomer Senior Guide as much as we enjoyed producing it for you. Next year, maybe we will feature you. Jill Blue-Gaines Publisher

Reach for the stars!
For quality health care, we’ve earned the most stars—for the second year in a row. Health First Health Plans has earned an overall quality rating of 4.5 stars out of 5 from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) for 2012, making our Medicare Advantage plans the best available to residents of Brevard County. What are we graded on? Medicare gathers information from surveys of members and providers, claims information, and medical records and then rates performance on more than 50 items in five major categories: 1. Staying Healthy: Screenings, Tests, and Vaccines 2. Managing Chronic (Long-Term) Conditions 3. Plan Responsiveness and Care 4. Member Complaints, Problems Getting Services, and Choosing to Leave the Plan 5. Customer Service Information on quality can help you better compare Medicare plans. The 5-Star Quality Ratings are released annually by CMS to help beneficiaries compare each plan’s performance as they choose their coverage for the coming year. Choose a health plan with confidence in the quality of coverage, care and service you will receive. What else should be considered? In-network access to Health First hospitals is only available through Health First Health Plans. This includes hospitalizations for surgery and medical procedures that are not considered an emergency. For more information about Health First Medicare Plans, call 321-434-5665 or toll free 1-800-716-7737 (TDD/TTY relay 1-800-955-8771), 7 days a week from 8 am to 8 pm, or visit www.HealthFirstHealthPlans.org.
Inspiring healthy moments. A Medicare Advantage organization with a Medicare contract. For more information about the CMS Stars rating program, visit www.medicare.gov. YOU CAN’T KEEP A GOOD RIVETER DOWN, PARTICULARLY IF HER NAME IS ROSIE, THE SYMBOL OF FEMALE EMPOWERMENT AND CAN-DO ATTITUDE DURING WORLD WAR II Rosie’s persona is back threefold and then some, reincarnated by Melbourne’s Pauline Wilson and her daughter and daughter-in-law. Initially, Pauline Wilson was going to model alone, but once she mentioned it to daughter, Dori Cowart and daughter-in-law, Regina Wilson, the single act became a triple production. Other than Cowart’s modeling stint while in high school, the three women had no real experience before a camera. 12 | THEBOOMERSENIORGUIDE.COM
“We went online and researched Rosie to get the right look,” said Pauline Wilson, who was born and raised in Melbourne and a graduate of Melbourne High School’s Class of 1951. She never experienced the Great War, but her brother’s military duty during the Korean War brought back memories of the many sacrifices all families endure when their loved ones serve their country. For the photo shoot, the Wilson trio posed among other World War II legends: the airplanes at Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum. “My whole family is so excited about seeing the photos and the fact that Grandma is modeling,” said Pauline. Wilson has three children, ten grandchildren and five great-grands.

TOWN HISTORIAN GIVES WALKING TOURS OF MELBOURNE BEACH
By George White Finding historical sites and homes in Melbourne Beach is as easy as a walk in the park. Just ask Melbourne Beach Historian Frank Thomas, who has written a book on the history of the town with roots back to 1888. Thomas, a former English teacher at Melbourne High School and later Brevard Community College, leads a tour of Melbourne Beach each New Year’s Day. But he doesn’t have far to walk, as most of the sites are located around Ryckman Park. “It was purely by accident that it (Melbourne Beach) was left behind. Nobody paid much attention to it because A1A used to end here. The road south to Sebastian Inlet was only shelled in 1955 and there was no bridge across to Indian River County until 1965,” he said. Town founder Rufus Beaujean moved his family to Melbourne Beach in 1889 and built his first home the same year. He built the chapel in 1891-1892 and his second home, still located at 905 Riverside Dr., in 1894. Both are still standing and included on the tour.
Project5_Layout 1 1/31/12 4:30 PM Page 1
Thomas’ walking tour begins at the pier, followed by a peek at a 12-inch artesian well located nearby that once was used to generate electricity, according to Thomas.
Frank Thomas, Melbourne Beach Historian, on the front porch of the Ryckman House.
By 1981, town fathers had established a U.S. Post Office and Melbourne Beach was up and running. That post office was moved to the southern portion of Ryckman Park. Thomas said that the Ryckman House, also located in the park, was built in 1890 when the town was known for agriculture, consisting mostly of pineapples. “It was a tough existence out here,” he said. Thomas’ popular New Year’s Day walking tour draws more than 100 people some years, which caused him to start using amplification to be heard by the crowd. “What’s great about Melbourne Beach history is that it’s all contained in a small area,” he said. Books by Thomas on the town’s history are for sale at town hall, and the town’s history center. Thomas is available to give the tour to groups of 12 or more at any time.

REMEMBERING PONCE DE LEON’S LANDING IN FLORIDA
Juan Ponce de Leon’s hometown mayor, Santiago Baeza Benavides (left) and his wife, Maria, (center) of Santervas de Campos, Valladolid, Spain, and Sam Lopez stand near the spot on Melbourne Beach, Florida, where most historians now believe Ponce de Leon first landed in April 1513, discovering Florida.
By Darrell Woehler Florida was discovered in 1513 when Juan Ponce de Leon, sailing from a port in Puerto Rico, landed very near Melbourne Beach, Fla. And to commemorate that fact, numerous celebrations are being planned throughout the state, but perhaps none more ambitious than right here on the Space Coast. United Third Bridge, Inc., under President Samuel Lopez and the Florida Puerto Rican Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, Inc., has formed the Royal Order of Don Juan Ponce de Leon Historical V Centennial 1513, Melbourne Beach, Brevard County, Florida. Quite a title, but this is quite an undertaking. In conjunction with this, and to promote the 2013 activities, the committee was able to coordinate the recent visit of the mayor and his wife of the hometown birthplace of Don Juan Ponce de Leon in Spain. The Honorable Santiago Baeza Benavides and his wife, Maria Nuria Rodriguez recently made a whirlwind tour of the Space Coast. They visited the commission chambers at the Brevard County Government Center in Viera, when a resolution was presented showing that the time of Nov. 21 through 30, 2011, was dedicated in honor of the mayor and thanking him for his visit to Brevard County.
Melbourne Beach’s Mayor Tom Davis, Police Chief Dan Duncan and noted local historian Ann Downing provided a tour of the town on Nov. 22, 2011 including the town business complex. They also visited the Ponce de Leon Landing Park, south of the town complex of Melbourne Beach, where, most historians believe, to be very near the 1513 first landing of Juan Ponce de Leon. Mayor Davis presented the Key to the City of Melbourne Beach to Mayor Santiago at the Government Center in Viera on Nov. 28, 2011 and various lunches and other site visits were also conducted, including a Coast Guard tour of Port Canaveral. The mayor’s visit is preliminary to a hoped-for visit by the King and Queen of Spain during the 2013 festivities. The State of Florida’s designation of this event is called Viva Florida 500 and is being promoted by the state through various government agencies, including The Governor’s Office of Tourism, Trade and Economic Development and the Florida Humanities Council. The local committee has been meeting for more than 15 months and involves numerous sub-committees and their coordination with a large number of local and state government agencies as well as various Hispanic and other committees from counties throughout Florida. In addition to plans to construct a multicultural education building at Ponce de Leon Park on Melbourne Beach are plans to erect a large statue of Juan Ponce de Leon. The park is located at 4005 Hwy. A1A in Melbourne Beach. For more information, call 321-637-5732. 31 |
Neither Bob Bridges or his wife, Marie planned to become models. They did not hesitate, even when their model shoot required period attire from the 1940s. Bob is a retired commander with the United States Navy. His wife of 30 years is a certified nurse’s assistant. Bob Bridges still had his Navy “cover,” a white hat known as a Dixie Cup. He knew his original bell bottoms with 13 buttons would still fit. However, the shirt, known as a Cracker Jack, was borrowed from the Cocoa Army and Navy Store. The search for a 1942-style nurse’s uniform was a little more difficult, but the couple managed to find one that worked. They needed the perfect wardrobe to recreate Alfred Eisenstaedt’s world-famous photograph known as the “Times Square Kiss.” Marie Bridges said she felt right at home in her husband’s arms while being photographed at the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville. “We have had decades of practice,” she said. The Merritt Island couple says their real-life relationship and how they met and combined their families into one is like a scene from the movie An Officer and a Gentleman. Despite filling their retirement with part-time jobs and one full-time job, the one most important in their lives is raising their grandchild.

Louvanona Simpson, now a mother of three college graduates, works for the Brevard County Clerk of Courts preparing paperwork overnight for new arrestees and re-arrests. But most don’t know her past as happy hippie. “The Occupiers have nothing on me. Growing up in Charleston, S.C., I became a Freedom Fighter in 1964 at the age of 12. I remember the marches and curfews very well,’’ she said. “My best friend, Charlotte and I were caught up in the cause, the excitement and the fight for freedom. We paraded those afros, long skirts and no shoes, up and down King Street proudly in defiance of the establishment. ’’ Simpson spent 10 days in jail but has no regrets or jail record. Eugene Snook claims to be a big ham. When he entertains at Joe’s Club in a grass skirt and coconut bikini top (over his T-shirt) he said, “The crowd goes wild.” 44 | THEBOOMERSENIORGUIDE.COM
He was excited to be asked to fill the role of someone from the 1960s, as a model for the Guide. “The idea to dress up as an Air Force serviceman and a person from the sixties was really enjoyable,” Snook said. “I borrowed the Air Force uniform. I was an Army man, so I had to adjust to the inverted stripes, and then I was able to find the tie-dyed shirt at Goodwill. It all worked out well with a little searching.” Judy Gendron of Melbourne thought dressing up like the 60s seemed natural, but a bit different. “The hippies were not really my peer group because I dressed a little more conservative but I believe that they changed everything about how we perceive ourselves and speak up,’’ he said. Gendron is proud that, at age 21, she was considered Rhode Island’s first-ever female bartender and later, she earned a college degree in accounting.

HIKING
THROUGH BREVARD BY MARIA SONNENBERG
What costs nothing, can reconnect you with nature, improve your health and help you meet new people? Hiking, of course. Brevard County has an amazing diversity of ecosystems, as well as a bevy of hiking trails that nourish body and mind as you meander through habitats that range from coastal scrub and floodplain forests to open prairies and tropical hammocks. Hiking other parts of the country might involve fighting gravity at hills, but with the Space Coast’s flat landscape, hiking is easy on the knees. Many trails are wheelchair-accessible, so everyone can enjoy a day out in nature. At the Enchanted Forest Sanctuary in Titusville, free golf cart tours allow individuals with mobility and sight issues to still get up close to Florida in its wild nature. “We even help guests who may have macular degeneration to experience this beautiful environment,” said Barbara Hoelscher, former president of the Friends of the Enchanted Forest. Wild Florida coexists peacefully with technology at Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, founded as an overlay to the Kennedy Space Center. Wildlife sightings are plentiful at the Refuge; a great place to start is the gentle trail behind the visitors’ center. The green byways of Brevard County are sometimes so close to civilization that visitors can shop after the hike. In South Brevard, for example, Erna Nixon Park in West Melbourne offers a wheelchair-accessible half-mile of elevated boardwalk and trail that provides vistas of magnificent old live oaks draped in moss and fern… within walking distance of Melbourne Square.
Further south, in Palm Bay’s Turkey Creek Sanctuary, a 1.6 mile trail wanders through sand pine scrub and hammocks to a bluff overlooking gorgeous Turkey Creek, home to manatees, gators and other wildlife. Nearby is Palm Bay Public Library. At Pine Island Conservation Area in Merritt Island, enjoy two trails through pine flatwoods and glimpse mangrove forests and the marshes that fringe the Indian River Lagoon. The 1875 Sams House, the oldest standing home in Brevard County, is located in this pristine environment, allowing visitors to experience all aspects of the Florida of yesteryear. “Pine Island is a really good trail,” said Florida Trail Association member Jim Escoffier, who has enjoyed the pleasures of hiking for seven decades and has clocked in many miles leading hikes through many of Central Florida’s best trails, including those at Pine Island. “We lead 25 different hikes in 26 weeks, most of them between four and seven miles long,” he said. “All of them are free, except in the case where there is an entrance fee to a particular location.” If you want to wander a bit further afield, the 1,400-mile Florida National Scenic Trail, which loops throughout the Sunshine State, is within an hour’s drive of most Floridians’ homes, making it an easy day hike for most. While hiking is possible year-round, prime hiking season runs from October through March, when temperatures are cooler, the weather is drier, and insects are not as aggressive. During the summer, hikes along beachside trails such as the Barrier Island Center’s one-mile trail take advantage of coastal breezes to temper the heat and the bugs. Not far from Barrier Island Center in Melbourne Beach is the Maritime Hammock Trail, a 2.5 mile-long dripping with bromeliads, mangroves and killer views of the Indian River. Whether you prefer beachside trails or inland hikes, Brevard has plenty of trails to satisfy your inner wild child.
THE FLORIDA TRAIL One of only eight National Scenic Trails, the Florida Trail provides hiking opportunities through 1,400 miles of the Sunshine State. Numerous segments are near the Space Coast. Visit floridatrail.org or call 877-445-3352. For more information on hiking in Brevard, visit spacecoasthiking.com or eelbrevard.com. For a schedule of Jim Escoffier’s hikes, visit jjehikesced.blogspot.com. 73 |

Her father and uncle built and ran the Camelot Inn in Cape Canaveral, at the site of the current Zachary’s Family Restaurant. Airmen MAKE THE DIFFERENCE DURING WWII
BY GEORGE WHITE
Brevard County is, of course known as The Space Coast, putting it at the very center of the history of the U.S. space program, but this area is also linked with another important aviation milestone which has re-emerged in the national spotlight. Brevard is home to several of the AfricanAmerican airmen who trained at the Tuskegee Army Air Field in Alabama and served with the 332nd Fighter Group during World War II. They became known as Tuskegee Airmen. Several were on hand Jan. 20, 2012 at the Premiere Theaters Oaks 10 for a showing of Red Tails, organized by the Melbourne Area Pilots Association. The event included a reception prior to the movie and a question and answer session afterward. The Tuskegee Airmen were the first African-American servicemen to serve as military aviators in the U.S. armed forces, flying with distinction during World War II. Though subject to racial discrimination at home and abroad, the pilots and ground personnel of the Tuskegee Airmen played a key role in the war. They have been forever linked with progress in the area of understanding success which resulted in victories in the skies throughout the war. The highly publicized successes of the Tuskegee Airmen helped pave the way for the eventual integration of the U.S. armed forces under President Harry Truman in 1948.

Some have forgotten that during World War II, the U.S. military was racially segregated. Reflecting American society and law at the time, most black soldiers and sailors were restricted to labor battalions and other support positions. An experiment in the U.S. Army Air Forces, however, showed that given equal opportunity and training, AfricanAmericans could fly in; command and support combat units as well as anyone. There have been many books on the unit, and in 1995, HBO produced the movie Tuskegee Airmen. The 2012 Lucasfilm movie, Red Tails, was so named because the airplanes’ vertical stabilizers, or tails, had been painted red. Among those present at the movie premier was Tuskegee advanced pilot trainer Bob Hughes, of Melbourne, who welcomed the movie as important for current generations to get a better understanding of history. “I ask some of the younger AfricanAmerican kids, ‘Who were the Tuskegee Airmen?’ and most of them don’t know and don’t know how they fit into history. We’re all hoping this movie will show them,’’ Hughes said. Lt. Col. (Ret) Hiram Mann, a long-standing member of the Valiant Air Command Warbird Museum in Titusville, was also in attendance. He flew 48 missions during the war, retired with more than 21 years of service and went on to earn a master’s degree.
The facts surrounding the Tuskegee Airmen and their unique place in American service history are undeniable: + There were 996 original Airmen. These included pilots, bombardiers, and navigators with more than 10,000 black men and women serving as their vital support personnel. +T here were 450 pilots who served in combat overseas in the European Theater of Operations, North Africa, and the Mediterranean. +O f the Tuskegee aviators, 66 died in combat and 33 Tuskegee Airmen became prisoners of war. +T hey flew more than 700 bomber escort missions and ended the war as the only fighter group never to lose an escorted bomber to enemy fighters. +T he Tuskegee Airmen flew 15,533 sorties between May 1943 and June 1945. The flight of a combat aircraft on a mission is called a sortie. +W hite American pilots were not allowed to fly more than 52 missions, but black American pilots often flew up to 100 missions, due to lack of replacements. +T he Tuskegee Airmen destroyed 251 enemy aircraft and won more than 850 medals including 150 Distinguished Flying Crosses, eight Purple Hearts and 14 Bronze Stars among others. For more information on the movie Red Tails, visit redtails2012.com. For more information on the Tuskegee Airmen, visit tuskegeeairmen.org.

Peithman, a wig and mastectomy fitter, said, “It’s not easy to find a 70-year-old swimsuit that fits and is in good shape.”
Eda Peithman never expected she’d be a pinup girl at 60. She sent in her audition photo for the 2012 Boomer Senior Guide, looking much like any other model. When she learned her photo shoot would be set in the 1940s, she pulled out all the stops to make an impact on the art director. She was able to pull together an outfit, complete with veiled hat, gloves and pearls, but she said she had to search for the swimsuit. That search closed the deal with the director.

Peithman seemed to feel comfortable posing among vintage airplanes. She said, “When I saw that the photo shoot was to be at the Warbird museum, I thought of my dad, Deno Renieri. He was a tail gunner during WWII, serving with the elite Flying Tigers under General Chennault in China.”
She and her husband Neil belong to the Italian American Club of South Brevard and have two children and four grandchildren.
She worked in Massachusetts as a hairdresser and barber. Discovering she enjoyed solving thinning-hair problems, she began working with wigs. “Since most of my clients are chemo patients, I started solving chest problems, also.” She owns Eda’s Studio & Specialties, a shop in Downtown Melbourne.

Mary Pat Brennan and Don Kester have been following each other around since the early 1950s. Kester and Brennan’s husband were Air Force pilots stationed at Andrews Air Force Base in Maryland. They lived in adjacent communities and used the same baby sitter, but never met until 2000. They were both widowed, living at the Indian River Colony Club, where they met at a happy hour event. Brennan said, “It was déjà vu. We had 50 years to catch up on. Our children now join us at all occasions and we’re like one big family.” Kester retired from the Air Force after 32 years and can still fit into his WWII flight suit. Brennan, who has a passion for cooking, was an office manager for the Public Health Service. She was raised on a 10-acre compound, surrounded by grandparents, two dozen aunts and uncles and what she calls “loads of cousins.” She once manned the tiller of a small Egyptian sailing vessel, called a feluka, and sailed up the Nile River. Brennan said, “We’re still rocking, but not in a chair!”

Senior Life of Florida Years
THE
GOOD
OLD DAYS BY PAMELA TRONETTI, D.O., AGSF
Ahh, the good old days of medicine. Back when the old country doctor drove to the house to dispense medicine and wisdom and deliver babies. We did some reminiscing in the doctor’s lounge and found that those of us who’ve been around a few years have more things that we are thankful for now. Although we’re nostalgic about a few things, like using a simple billing system instead of dealing with dozens of insurances, for the most part, we appreciate the advances we’ve seen.
HERE ARE SOME OF THE THINGS WE DON’T MISS Laparotomies. If you had stomach pain and nothing showed up on a plain x-ray, you’d go to surgery. The surgeon made a large incision in the abdomen and looked around a spell to find the cause of your symptoms. The Sippy diet. Anyone with ulcers was put on this wonderful repast of four ounces of milk and cream on the hour and sodium bicarbonate on the half-hour. Pneumoencephalograms. To get a better view of the brain on x-ray, doctors would use a spinal tap to drain off all the cerebral spinal fluid. It was replaced with air, oxygen or helium. Headaches and vomiting ensued. And the recovery time for the procedure was two to three months. Calling in. The hospital operator had to know where every doctor was at all times. So all on-call doctors who were going to a dinner party, the theater or a friend’s house had to call in on arrival so the operator knew where to reach them. Rigid IV needles and endoscopy instruments. The IV needle was a straight one-inch needle that stayed in the arm, which usually required the arm to be taped to an IV board to keep the needle from dislodging. Likewise, if we wanted to look in the stomach or the lungs, the patient had better have the skills of a sword swallower because the instruments were cold hard steel. 94 | THEBOOMERSENIORGUIDE.COM
THINGS WE LOVE NOW Preventive medicine. At one time, no one got a mammogram unless they found a lump. Now we offer mammograms, bone density testing, colonoscopy, PSAs and other labs that detect disease early. Specialists. One of our doctors told of an unforgiving night when he was alone in a hospital doing a difficult delivery. There was no ER bustling with extra doctors; no surgeons, pediatrician or obstetrician; and certainly not a life flight to a neonatal intensive care unit. Diagnostic imaging. MRIs, CT scans, echocardiograms, ultrasounds and other tests offer noninvasive, painless ways to examine our patients. Effective medicines. Over the course of my almost 30 years in medicine I’ve been privileged to witness the development of medications for Alzheimer’s disease, osteoporosis, cancers, and a wide variety of options to treat diseases like hypertension, diabetes, infections and arthritis pain. Computers, fax machines, pagers, and iPhones. Technology makes communication between physicians, pharmacies, patients, and tertiary care centers easy. In medicine we often look back on those good old days of Dr. Welby, or to the future when Dr. McCoy will use a tricorder to diagnose any disease in the universe. But right now we have dedicated enthusiastic healers who have access to the latest worldwide research and make it accessible to their communities. We can hardly wait to see what the future will hold. Dr. Pamela Tronetti is an osteopathic physician who practices geriatric medicine at Parrish Medical Center. For questions or appointments call 321-268-6800.

SPECIAL NEEDS SHELTER
The Special Needs Registry is a confidential listing of those people who meet program criteria, and is updated on an annual basis. Patients with colostomy assistance needs, nebulizers, oxygen, feeding tubes, or Alzheimer’s disease are examples of medical criteria that are eligible for the registry. Individuals who elect to use a special needs or other public shelter should bring with them items such as cots, bedding, medicine, medical supplies, and food supplies, preparing to be self-sufficient for 72 hours. Special needs registrants should also be accompanied by at least one caregiver. Occupants’ comfort will be determined by their preparedness. For more information, call 321-637-4088.
