THE PARALLEL WORLD SHWETA MEHTA BA FASHION YEAR 3 SEMESTER 2 FASHION DESIGN FOR COMMERCIAL CONTEXT E19CC
INTRODUCTION
Diversity itself is termed as the state of being different to others. Which makes each one of us so unique. My chosen concept for diversity is ’’The parallel world’ ’which is about the parallel world of people suffering from spinal paralysis. A person suffering from such kind of disorder does have an equal opportunity of being able to dress fashionably and follow the trends all they need is maybe some adaptive clothing and we as a future fashion designers need to make sure that there are garments made for each and different diverse sector of our society keeping in mind the adaptive measures taken for the accessibility of their respective diverse customer.
DESIGN STATEMENT My chosen area of the diversity is the parallel life of people dealing with spine paralysis. A spinal cord injury is a damage to the spinal cord that causes changes in its function, either temporary or permanent. These changes translate into the loss of muscle function, sensation, or autonomic function in some parts of the body. It is most often caused by physical trauma and the person dealing can be temporary or permanently restricken to the bed. And would require a certain amount of external help for the purpose of the movement of their body, for various purposes and these people who are going to sit for hours on the wheelchair or lay on the bed need a certain amount of comfort in the clothes they wear and there should also be a certain level of adaptability and fashion details that will help make their life easier and hassle free. My main aim in this project is to help people dealing with this kind of issues to have a hassle free life using such garment details that will make their life easier. After looking at the trends and researching deep about my subject I decided to use zips and draw strings as part of my garment hardware within my collection making sure that the customer feels comfort and easy accessibility within the garment. My garments would then be supported by a circular silhouette large scale pockets and ribbings to give it a sporty yet urban feel.
