[Concept] I chose chapter 106 to be my inspiration. The summary of the chapter is as follow: a person in love would try to make dedications to his lover, such as presents. “Present ” as a symbol, has multiple meanings. I tried to simulate a lover searching a present to her lover and I found present is actually a symbol of possession.
// A Letter for My Love The letter for my love My dear lover, I would like to give you a present. However the process of searching a present made me suffered.
[Project Introduction] The project is about transforming emotional feeling to an actual object. The object, which should be a piece of furniture, should reproduce the subject in some way. Fragments d’un discours amoureux written by Roland Barthes is the assigned text. Students should chose an inspiring chapter and develop the subject to a piece of furniture. Student should consider human size when making the furniture. The every

[Development] In love, to dedicate is a symbol of possession. One wants to possession his lover though the present he/she gives. The one wants the present become a part of the lover, possessing the lover’s time, the body even the soul. Namely, the one is constructing a fully possession through
some sketch to study. I think the most possessing posture is not necessary the most body contacting. However the posture should create interaction between man and furniture.

Why Chair? The characteristics of chair are similar to the ones of possession between lovers.

Sitting on a chair is the most possessing activity in our daily lives. Taking my life style as the model, I spend at lease 14 hours a day to sit on a chair. Chair is the most common-used and often body contacting furniture. In order to reproduce the possession between lovers, I think chair is the best choice.

// Structure In order to build a supporting structure, I found an old wooden chair to act as bone.
// Shape To build the shape, I cut some sponge and roll them up. According to the posture, I stuck these pillows to responding positions.
// Cover I used tree big pieces of sponge to cover the chair. The sponge was attached along the highs and lows of the chair.
// Sponge 2.5mm
// Insert Cut small hole on the sponge and insert the components, one by one, till the whole chair get covered. The components are inserted along the shape of the chair.

Project III
; All-direction Cable Car Station} Deconstruction and Reconstruction of an Object December, 2011- January, 2012 Instructor: Chun-yu Hsieh
[Project Introduction] The project is about deconstructing, magnifying and reconstructing an object. The object should be basically chosen form small tools in our daily life. It should also content with a mechanical movement, which can be reproduced on the model. After deconstructing and analyzing the object, we have to magnify the object and build an over 30-centimeter long model. The model should be reconstructed by frame, in formcore without any glue. My object is a correction tape. The shape and length is very handy and elegant. The tape end is flexible; it can be lengthened and shortened by pressing the top section.

[Project Purpose] The purpose of project is to observe an object in assigned scales. Through going from one step to another, one have a chance to see the object in its actual size; then go beneath the skin to the inner part, analyzing the structure of the object. And after establishing the model, one has to see the object in the scale of architecture and imagine the functions. The observer goes through the process of changing the observing strategy and experiencing one abject in different scale. 1.

// The Outer Part I decided to use layers and patterns to build the outer part of the model. Two layers instead of one layer can bring more spaces. As for the sides of the model, I attempted to use the unique shaped units to create smooth visual effect. And the crossing wave-like pattern on the upper part of the shell is out of the attempt to build a complete but regular appearance.
// The Innerer Part When building the inner part of the model, I decided to put the emphasis on the mechanical function of the original object, which is to push and pull the central part of the correct tape. Therefore, arrangement as the way they are.
[The Model]
// The Light and Space 733 x 188 x 95 Latch by formcore
Observe the model with light and see the space among frames.
[Architectual Imagination]
All Direction Cable Car Station // The space is for people to stay and to walk through. It links the observation deck and cable car platforms. Sun lights spray trough the ceiling and make the space vary from light to gloomy.
If the model turns out to be a building, it could be an alldirection cable car station. With many windows on two sides, could provide the functions of a cable car station. The windows could direct the cables to different places; the two wheels could drive the cable and simultaneously be both the ticket booth and platform for passengers to get on and off the cars. When the to change directions and switch between platforms.
The other part of the building could be a public space for users to wait and relax. At the very end of the building, the full clear room rounded with glass could be an observation deck. It could be placed on cliffs and suspended in the air. Users could
