Siân Owen I am a Graduate with four years experience in Supply Chain and Purchasing I am ready to use the skills I've gained to further my career WORK EXPERIENCE
Assistant Buyer August 2011 - present ghd | Leeds, Yorkshire Personal Electronics An exciting role mainly sourcing, ordering, and expediting the company's print, Marketing, and VM requirements * I assist the Procurement Manager in the selection of appropriate print, gifting, and all other non-electrical suppliers and contractors. This includes tendering the manufacture of cosmetic bags to mulitple new suppliers in China. I keep track of samples we receive, analyse tenders, and make recommendations to the Buyer. * I work closely with the internal departments and suppliers to ensure all print, POS, and VM projects are delivered on cost and on time. I request quotes for print jobs including large-scale graphics, I analyse and negotiate the quotes and once I'm happy with the final costs I present them to the business. Artwork is supplied to me, I then manage the orders and with the help of my colleagues in Supply Chain we get the items to their final destination. * I have assistedthe Procurement Manager in identifying and eliminating weaknesses in the current procurement process. I’ve devised, implemented, and monitored robust and structured process driven methods of working. Using my Supply Chain knowledge I have methodically devised a process of communicating new purchases to the QC team to ensure that these are checked in an appropriate and timely manner. As mine was a new role I feel like I've been able to provide support to the Buyer to ensure that all purchases have been through a rigorous tender process to be certain that we're buying right. * Identifying areas of opportunity to achieve better communication between internal departments in all areas of non-electrical procurement. I plan, forecast, and organise the information needed for internal teams. I write reports on potential faults for items we're purchasing. My key achievements so far have been: - Implementing a new Procurement / QA system which has been very well received - Tendered POS kitting to a new service provider, negotiated a new contract, with immediate benefits for teams across ghd - Tendering new purchases to Chinese manufacturers - An integral role in planning global COGs for 2013

Supply Analyst – Wine (beginning in Household) August 2008 - August 2011 Asda | Leeds, Yorkshire Retail A challenging role replenishing stores & depots. Order planning from multiple wineries * I began in Pet Care and after two years I gained a promotion into Wine. During my time in the Wine department I ordered from both UK importers and wineries on the continent, namely in France, Italy, and Germany. I also took full responsibility for the ‘3 for £10’ deal and promotion space in store, this was massive from a volume perspective and had very different challenges compare to the rest of my range. * This role was full of challenge as it required diligent and accurate volume planning to both maintain excellent availability for customers and target level inventory to ensure the company wasn't losing or wasting money. I managed a wide range of slow and fast moving wines on regular promotion cycles. This means my communication skills improved as the very nature of the job meant I oversaw the end to end supply chain, including Store and Depot colleagues, Merchandisers, Distribution Teams, Suppliers, and Trading among others. * A large aspect of the role was dealing with huge amounts of data. To plan effectively we had to forecast down to the smallest detail. During my time at ASDA I could converse with numerous data systems including Retail Link and
SQL. My Spreadsheet and Database skills were often called upon by the wider team, and I was often the go-to-girl for shortcuts and proof reading of colleagues analysis of data. My main responsibilities included: - Effective and efficient order planning - Load planning from multiple wineries (“Milk rounds) - Driving availability and mainting inventory at the lowest cost to Asda - Using strong communication skills to network and influence teams from across Asda - Problem solving

Bachelor's Degree, Sociology September 2003 - July 2006 Leeds Metropolitan University | Leeds, Yorkshire During my time at Uni I was an active member of the Political Debate Society and enjoyed discussing difficult or sensitive political issues raised by the media each week. The modules I chose in my second and third years varied greatly. I enjoyed learning about a wide range of sociological topics from statistics and research to the sociology of time. My twelve thousand word project was entitled 'Decisions about euthanasia reflect complex processes of moral reasoning within the public/private interface. Critically discuss this'. In 2006 my chosen field of research was an emotive and often bias subject and prompted a careful and methodical approach. This thesis really tested my qualitative research method knowledge, in my previous projects I had usually written about more quantifiable data which meant I was able to use SPSS (Statistics Package for the Social Sciences) along with the more usual Microsoft packages.
