THANK YOU!

THANK YOU!

Imet Mrs. Elva Russell Rolle in 2007 late one evening on the way to dinner with her one and only son who she affectionately called her ‘Prince’ (Andrew Rolle). Andrew had picked me up and told me he wanted me to meet his mum. I was excited and nervous all at once. She embraced me and welcomed me into the family that very night. Over the years, we grew close and had a kindred relationship. We shared many memories that I will never forget. Attending tea parties, garden parties, birthday parties and vacations will never be the same. I enjoyed her company as I learnt so many things about life and family. It was in 2013, when Andrew and I got married and she told me to call her ‘mum’.

Mum and I would do so many things together, she was one of my biggest supporters. We shared countless hours of laughter, dancing and chatting. She sparked my interest in gardening and the outdoors. I remember her telling me that her plants were her ‘therapy’. I know that I will never have a green thumb like her or be able to make her delicious green bean casserole at Christmas. I do know that I will forever keep her words, instructions and love in my heart.

Mum enjoyed celebrating life and in an exquisite style. In this picture, we were celebrating my 35th Birthday. I can remember her joking with me and telling me I’m getting up there in age. She would further joke about how she was almost twice my age. This picture is my absolute favorite picture of us because it captures a moment of fondness and endearment. It also captures a small fragment of the past, present and future generations. I am blessed by her works, her family dynamics and her faith.

Mum was a woman of profound legacy, a woman of impact, a woman of a lifetime.

I love you and may your soul rest in eternal peace. Love Quela

IMiss You So So So So Much! I miss the funny laughter when you were here. But I will pray with you everyday. I miss the way you would throw your hands in the air and say to me “hug me like you love me!” We have a name in common and I will never forget you and I will make you proud.

How do you wrap up my years walking on this earth with my big sister Elva and fit it in the dash between the years of my birth and her death 1964 “-” 2022.

Wow this is profound, “46” and “64”, never realized until now.

Our family, a very large tight knitted group which has always been together celebrated, birthdays, holidays, milestones, events and gatherings.

Elva, on most of these occasions, had her hands in the planning of them. This entailed the most meticulous details; what is the menu going to be, when do we go shopping for the necessary items for the event, who needed to go for what, take her for this......

Whenever we had an event to attend and Elva was the driver, she would say be ready an hour before the event because she would be passing by half an hour before that time to pick you up. So she wanted you ready at least an hour and a half before the event. The translation to this is, be ready ten minutes ahead of what time she gave you and be outside waiting for her to pull up. Lord help if you were running late for Elva. Mummy would say, “Dr. Rassin is outside blowing the car horn”. My sister Elva was a stickler for being on time.

If ever you were a passenger and Elva the driver, oh what an experience..........

Elva possessed that strong sense of family, she always had an insatiable thirst to obtain the knowledge of the family history, she could not wait to share it with the family or with whoever would listen.

This past October, Elva planned a day trip to surprise aunt Doris just as a precursor to her 100th birthday celebration. Me, Ethelyn and Elva had an amazing visit not realizing this would be our last trip together. Here goes Aunt Doris, saying “Ethelyn and Elva, Nassau’s best”.

Elva, a results driven individual, always encouraged me as a young girl in athletics. She liked to brag about all of my God given talents and constantly encouraged me to pursue what God has instore for me. She’d brag about my DeShannon and my Destanee’s ease of navigating through her online shopping sites she frequented. Now should Elva ask you to purchase something for her on the other hand, you definitely had to pick her up or video call for her to place her personal preference on each item. She had a male family friend who lives in Florida, video call her and go through all of her favorite isles of her favorite stores, to ensure she got exactly what she wanted, the best!

My big sisters were always my protectors, our parents did not have to make the normal unpleasant meeting with teachers, attend PTA meetings and the like for me. Even as an adult Ethelyn, Elva and Angie protected me and continue to protect me. The best protectors!!

Elva insisted on cooking her, or my favorite dishes and would order me to sit with her to enjoy the meal. This was our private time to share our thoughts on things. On my last promotion, Elva called me and told me she was taking me shopping because I needed a few new suits and blouses to make sure I presented and represented well. No matter what I said about me having just a few things and not needing new stuff she insisted. I looked at Ets for help, but of course she was in agreement with EPA. Only the best! She liked it when I passed by after work just so she could critique what I wore to work. If my attire, shoes and hair were not up to her standard, which was often in her book. My big sisters Ethelyn, Elva and Angie had Patrenda as the subject matter, always. They all wanted to know how they dropped the ball on Patrenda. The best sisters!

Me and my three sisters had a favorite song preformed by Sister Sledge ``We Are Family, I got all my Sisters and me”..... This was the song we danced together, only us....The best times!!

Girl Elva, you have left some very large shoes to fill, planted the seeds, cooked all the meals, made the final ceramic piece, painted the last picture, made the final floral arrangement, penned the last contract, made the final sale, organized the final tea party, attended the last meeting, danced to the last song, attended your last church service and have made that final flight. You have done it all!!!!

You are the very best!!! Love, Patrenda
