THE STORY OF WOODSMAN NAMED VISU to move the pieces.

Many years ago there lived on the barren plain of suruga a woodsman by the name of Visu. He was a giant in stature and lived in a hut with his wife and children. One day Visu received a visit from an old priest, who said to him “Honorable woodsman I am afraid you never pray”. Visu replied “If you had a wife and a large family to keep, you would never have time to pray”. This remark made the priest angry and the old man gave the wood cutter a vivid description of the horror of being reborn as a toad, or a mouse, or an insect for millions of years. Such lurid details were not to Visu’s liking and he accordingly promised the priest that in future he would pray. “Work and pray” said the priest as he took his departure. Unfortunately Visu did nothing but pray. He prayed all days long and refused to do any work so that his rice crops withered and his wife and family starved. Visu’s wife who had never said a harsh or bitter word to her husband, now became extremely angry, and pointing to the poor thin bodies of her children, she exclaimed “Rise Visu, take up your axe and do something more helpful to us all than the mere mumbling of prayers”. Visu was so utterly amazed at what his wife had said that it was some time before he could think of a fitting reply when he did so his words came hot and strong to the ears of his poor, muchwronged wife. “Woman” said he, “The Gods come first you are an impertinent creature to speak to me so, and I will have nothing more to do with you”. Visu snatched up his axe and without looking round to say farewell, he left the hut, strode out of the wood, and climbed up Fujiyama, where a mist hid him from sight. When Visu had seated himself upon the mountain he heard a soft rustling sound and immediately afterwards saw a fox dart into a thicket. Now Visu deemed it extremely lucky to see a fox and forgetting his prayers, he sprang up, and ran hither and thither in the hope of again finding this sharp nosed little creature. He was about to give up the chase when, coming to an open space in a wood, he saw two ladies sitting down by a brook playing go. The woodsman was so completely fascinated that he could do nothing but sit down and watch them. There was no sound except the soft click of pieces on the board and the song of the running brook. The ladies took no notice of Visu for they seemed to be playing a strange game that had no end, a game that entirely absorbed their attention. Visu could not keep his eyes off these fair women. He watched their long black hair and the little quick hands that shot out now and again from their big silk sleeves in order Siddhi Times USA 4

After he had been sitting there for three hundred years, though to him it was but a summer’s afternoon, he saw that one of the players had made a false move “Wrong, most lovely lady” he exclaimed excitedly. In a moment these women turned into foxes and ran away. When visu attempted to persue them, he found to his horror that his limbs were terribly stiff that his hair was very long and that his beard touched the ground. He discovered more over that the handle of his axe though made of the hardest wood had crumbled away into a little heap of dust. After many painful efforts Visu was able to stand on his feet and proceed very slowly toward his little home. When he reached the spot he was surprised to see no hut and perceiving a very old woman, he said “Good lady I am amazed to find that my little home was disappeared. I went away this afternoon and now in the evening it has vanished” The old woman, who believed that a mad man was addressing her, inquired his name when she was told she exclaimed. “Bah you must indeed be had Visu lived three hundred years ago! He went away one day and he never came back again” “Three hundred years” murmured Visu. It cannot be possible. Where are my dear wife and children? “Buried” hissed the old woman” and if what you say is true you children’s children too. The Gods have prolonged your miserable life in punishment for having neglected your wife and little children. Big tears ran down Visu’s withered cheeks as he said in a husky voice. “I have lost my manhood. I have prayed when my dear ones starved and needed the labor of my strong hands. Oh dear people, remember my last words. “If you pray, work too”. We do not know how long repentant Visu lived after he returned from his adventures.

Business Problems and spiritual solutions. and lost everything they earned. All are not planned but when the planets’ positions change everything gets changed. What is the remedy for this? Atharva Veda is the only remedy and solution for this. The horoscope of the person is to be scrutinized by Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar (Dr. Commander Selvam). After scrutinizing the horoscopes he will prefer some Atharva Vedic Thantric rituals. A business is a legally recognized organization designed to provide goods and/or services to consumers. One who owns a business is called as businessman. Each and every one who starts a business does not shine as a successful businessman. It is not that they are not capable of running a business. The horoscope and planet position in the horoscope make a n individual as a successful businessman. The 2nd, 10th, and the 11th houses, the owner of those houses and the planets occupying those houses decide the factor of a businessman. Atharva Veda explains a lot more about the business. Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar has done a vast research in Atharva Vedic astrology and he has written a lot of articles on this subject. The planetary positions cannot be changed. It is called as “Destiny’ or “Karma”. None can change it. But by proper Atharva Vedic Yaksha devathas rituals one can make this karma or destiny in a smooth way. The evilness of the planets can be removed and the same evil planets will be made as the best, by the Atharva Veda Yaksha/Yakshini Devathas. The worship of Atharva Veda Yaksha/Yakshini devathas is called as ritual. There is a great difference between the regular prayer and rituals. Physically one may show many reasons for the loss in the business or closure of a business. But the fundamental base is only one. That fundamental base is astrology. If the planets and their positions are good, everything will go smooth and well. But if the planets and their positions are not well the entire things will be spoiled. There are many examples for the best businessmen, who have become the worst businessmen

Atharva Veda has wonderful mantras and rituals to bring up the down trodden business and it can make the worst businessman as a successful businessman. The rituals for the following Yaksha devathas are to be performed be at least seven learned scholars. The rituals should be performed only in a divine and auspicious place. The rituals are to be done as per the directions of Siddhar Swamiji. By adopting these one can become a successful businessman. The following Atharva Veda Yakshini Devathas are to be worshipped with the utmost dedication and devotion. The first Yakshini Devatha is Shodashi Devi. She is called Shodashi because she possesses all the sixteen Supernatural powers. Goddess Shodashi is the most enchanting beauty of all the ten great learning. Shodashi, who has the mantra consisting of sixteen letters, has organs glowing like a rising sun. She has four hands and three eyes. She is seated on the lotus, which is placed on the body of Shiva who is lying in a peaceful posture. She has a noose, a hook, a bow and an arrow in each of her hands. Eveready to shower blessings on her devotees, her appearance is completely cheerful and gentle. Her heart is full of compassion. A devotee who takes her refuge achieves great divinity like the deities. In fact her splendors are indescribable. Even the Vedas are incapable of describing her greatness. Being pleased with her devotee she gives more than he demands.

The next Atharva Veda Yakshini Devatha is Siddhidatri. She is capable of giving all sorts of occult powers. According to Atharva Veda there are eight types of these powers - Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Isitwa and Vasitwa. The number eight is given special consideration in Atharva Veda. The mother Siddhidatri is competent enough to give all Siddhis to the strivers and her devotees. According to Devi Purana the Lord Shiva acquired these powers only by the grace of this goddess alone. Only due to her grace the Lord Siva became Ardhanariswara. The mother Siddhidatri is four-armed. Her vehicle is lion. She is seated on a lotus flower. She holds a Chakra in her right lower hand and a mace in the upper. In the left lower hand there is a conch and in her upper left hand a lotus flower. By performing the rituals in a manner prescribed Swamiji Sri Siddhar and with his full faith the Sadhaka acquires all Siddhis. There remains nothing unattainable in the universe. He develops competency to conquer the whole universe. It is the duty of every person to always try to propitiate mother Siddhidatri and earn her favor. By her grace only a devotee crosses the ocean of miseries and remaining quite untainted, enjoying all worldly pleasures. By adopting the rituals prescribed by Swamiji Siddhar through the learned pundits in a holy place even the dull most businessmen can become the best businessmen. Meaning of Vaastu: From the time of immoral the vastu shastra has been come into being existence during the period of kings. But there was no information revolution as of today, only the kings & rich people has been observed to safe guard (vastu) the richness as well as their kingdom. Unfortunately the poor & drown-trodden people have no idea of present vasthu. Apart from earning crores of rupees in this matter, the house holders can obtain peace of life. From the very beginning I have been in touch with so called rich people & noticed lack of peace of mind, so the importance of peace of mind is unlimited. The influence of vastu is no doubt the peace of mind for the house holders. Those who are suffering from in health, wealth, debts, quarrels, court cases, property loss, misunderstandings, facing troubles at family life, disputes, frustration and tension and they look forward towards peace. The people who have frustration & negative outlook will crave for present vastu…… The ultimate answer is vastu. Those who follow “vastu” on basis of construction will attain their desired goals & perfect happiness. Vastu is the science of architecture of ancient India. Vastu, in Sanskrit means nature, a surrounding or an environment. Siddhi Times USA 8

The word Vastu came from Vasi, denoting anything existing such as a house, shelter, building etc. For every problem there is a solution to solve. God has given us an opportunity and talent to overcome these problems. We face all these problems due to erratic planning of the house construction. The almighty has given us the vasthu shastra, which enable us overcome all the problems, which we face in our day to day life. This science, after propounding the rules of construction, goes to prove that by constructing properly our buildings, villages, towns, cities, shops, offices, factories and industries we can make ourselves prosperous Vaastu considered the interplay of various forces of nature involving the five elements of earth, water, wind, fire and ether and strives to maintain equilibrium as these elements influence, guide and change the living styles of not only human beings but every living being on earth. Thus they influence our deeds, luck, behavior and other basics of life.

Solar Energy from Sun. Lunar Energy from Moon • Earth Energy • Sky Energy • Electric Energy • Magnetic Energy • Thermal Energy • Wind Energy • Light Energy • Cosmic Energy Utilization of such energies gives us pleasure peace, prosperity and money etc in our life Vastu can be used for every room, every house, every temple, every shop industry, town planning, tour, cities and even for earth. Vastu can be used for micro as well as for macro level. There are three forces in action to create harmony. Wind, water and fire or, vaayu, jal and Agni. If these forces are kept in their appropriate places, then there will be no disturbance. But if water is put in place of fire and wind in place of water or in any other combination, the forces will start acting accordingly and create disharmony and unpeacefulness. Vastu Advice by Dr Commander Selvam Siddhar For The Selection Of The Plot The selection of the land is the initial stage and is very crucial as it is like the

starting of anything. If you get a good one, you are lucky, if you are not then the problems start prevailing. So if you are going to buy a new land/property, make sure you do under guidance. If you get a wrong plot and without any consultation start construction then it will be a invitation for all sorts of problems like financial problem, health problem, worries, sorrows. Make sure you do not invite such inexplicable problems.

• Stairs-location shapes and rise. • Placement of the main gate doors windows, ventilators, and cupboards. • Electricity meter, main line, lighting system. • Placement of all the rooms, kitchen, bathrooms. • Placement of the water sources like overhead tanks, underground tank, septic tank. • Use of Eco- friendly materials

We will provide you with the assistance in selection of the best suitable plot. We follow the following steps:

Residential Vastu

• Check and determine the directions of the site. • Check the soil of the site as it plays a major role in forming the vibrations of that particular site. • Try to get a personal feel and touch of the property to observe positive or negative vibrations at the site. • Prepare a Vastu analysis chart indicating important aspects and grading of the plot and suggestions. Vastu Advice Dr Commander Selvam Siddhar For The Construction Detail The second stage after buying a land is to start construction. Now even if you have chosen a bad land you can correct it by making proper construction and using Eco friendly material according to vastu. If you have purchased a good land, it can be unsuspicious if you don’t make the construction according to the rules of vastu. If you choose the wrong materials in wrong place, they will start giving problem later. Imagine after whole construction you come to know that the material is the cause of worries. What will you do? You cannot demolish the whole building , so its always better to have precautions rather than to go for cures.

The meaning of vastu is dwelling, which is the home for god and humans. Vastu shastra is based on various energies that comes from atmosphere like solar energy from sun, cosmic energy, lunar energy, thermal energy, magnetic energy, light energy, wind energy. These energies can be balanced to enhance peace, prosperity and success. If a house is made according to these principles, the inmates enjoy all the happiness in life. If it is against vastu principals, it will be a place for all sort of problems, worries and no peace. ( for more information visit http://www. drcommanderselvam-vastu.org/) The interior signifies the space enclosed by the outer walls of the house. The

interior is not like the homogeneous mass of that of any sweet but it differs from inch to inch so its very important to plan it accordingly. Sometimes a person living in Vastu based house can face problems if the interiors is not done in proper manner and many a times the problems can be rectified by changing the interiors of the house/office. Vastu Advice For The Interiors Of The House The aim of Vaastu is to make us live in harmony with nature taking advantage of the magnetic fields, gravitational effects etc. of the earth, the rainfall, the galaxy and the whole of the nature and the universe and duly invoking the blessing of the Gods of the directions. So every direction signifies a particular room and if in any house the Vastu principles are not followed, that result in misfortunes and problems. Pandit L.V. Sharma

I

n past issues I have shared many of my thoughts on spirituality. First, I humbly submit my Pranams to the Almighty for blessing me with the opportunity to do so. In this issue I wish to talk about the spirituality taught to King Janaka by one of the great saints, Ashtavakra. The reason for his name is that he had eight misplacements in his physical body. Even though he had the misplacements his knowledge is great. Even though he lived and died thousands of years ago, his thoughts on humanity and spirituality are suitable even for today’s hectic world. The Ashtavakra Gita, or The Song of Ashtavakra (also known as the Ashtavakra Samhita), is an Advaita Vedanta scripture which documents a dialogue between the Perfect Master Ashtavakra and the student Janaka, the King of Mithila.

The Ashtavakra Gita comprises of a total of 20 chapters. Ashtavakra Gita presents the traditional teachings of Advaita Vedanta with a clarity and power very rarely matched. In the first chapter, the teacher Ashtavakra imparts the highest knowledge there is to King Janaka. In the 2nd chapter, King Janaka asserts that he has figured it out (as to what true knowledge is). In the third chapter, Janaka tests if King Janaka really got this knowledge, and starts explaining in more detail the nature of this “Brahma Jnana,” or “Knowledge of Brahman.” This continues through the 6th chapter, and then Janaka speaks again in the 7th chapter. Ashtavakra further instructs Janaka in chapters 8 to11. In chapters 12, 13, and 14, Janaka speaks, giving a rare glimpse into the mind of a true seeker, who surely but steadily shows the signs of “Jeevan-Muktah,” or liberated-whileSiddhi Times USA 11

always totally free. The cause of your bondage is that you see the witness as something other than this. Since you have been bitten by the black snake of the self-opinion that “I am the doer,” drink the nectar of faith in the fact that “I am not the doer,” and be happy. Burn down the forest of ignorance with the fire of the understanding that “I am the one pure awareness,” and be happy and free from distress. That in which all this appears - imagined like the snake in a rope - that joy, supreme joy and awareness is what you are; so be happy. If one thinks of oneself as free, one is free; and if one thinks of oneself as bound, one is bound. Here this saying is true, “Thinking makes it so.” On following the great sayings of this wonderful scholar saint Ashtavakra, our Swamiji Sri. Selvam Siddhar always says, “You will live according to your thoughts.”

living. The Ashtavakra Gita states that there is nothing as existence or non existence, right or wrong, or moral or immoral. In the eyes of the Ashtavakra, one’s true identity can be found by simply recognizing oneself as Pure Existence and that as individuals we are the Awareness of all things. The Ashtavakra Gita teaches that one is already free when one realizes that he or she is free. In the first chapter the student Janaka asks only one question, and for that one question the master gives a very big answer. The question of the student Janaka is essentially, “How is knowledge to be acquired? How is liberation to be attained? And how is dispassion to be reached?” For this question the master’s long reply is as follows. If you are seeking liberation, turn away from the objects of the senses like poison. Practice tolerance, sincerity, compassion, contentment, and truthfulness like nectar. You are neither earth, water, fire, air, nor even ether. For liberation, know yourself as consisting of consciousness, the witness of these. Only if you remain resting in consciousness, seeing yourself as distinct from the body, then even now you will become happy, peaceful, and free from bonds. You do not belong to any caste, you are not at any stage, nor are you anything that the eye can see. You are unattached and formless, the witness of everything. Only by being a witness of the world and worldly actions can one be happy. Righteousness and unrighteousness, pleasure and pain are purely of the mind and are no concern of yours. You are neither the doer, nor the reaper of consequences, so you are always free. You are the one witness of everything, and are Siddhi Times USA 12

Your real nature is as the one perfect, free, and action-less consciousness, the all-pervading witness. You are unattached to anything, desire-less and at peace. It is from illusion that you seem to be involved in Samsara. Meditate on yourself as motionless awareness. Be free from any dualism, giving up the mistaken idea that you are just a derivative consciousness, or anything external or internal. You have long been trapped in the snare of identification with the body. Sever it with the knife of knowledge that “I am awareness,” and be happy. You are really unbound and action-less, self-illuminating and spotless already. The cause of your bondage is that you are still resorting to stilling the mind. All of this is really filled by you and strung out in you, for what you consist of is pure awareness. So, don’t be narrow-minded. Keep your mind broad and wide. You are unconditioned and changeless, formless and immovable, unfathomable awareness and imperturbable, so hold to nothing but consciousness. Recognize that the apparent is unreal, while the un-manifest is abiding. Through this initiation into truth you will escape falling into unreality again. Just as a mirror exists everywhere, both within and apart from its reflected images, so the Supreme Lord exists everywhere, within and apart from this body. Just as one and the same all-pervading space exists within and without a jar, so the eternal, everlasting God exists in the totality of things. This long answer given by the master teaches the highest

spirituality. If everybody were to adopt this point of view there would be no ego and jealousy. The entire world would be very peaceful. After hearing the longer answer, the great student Janaka asks for a longer explanation from the great master by narrating his experience as well. This makes the second chapter of this wonderful work. Truly I am spotless and at peace, the awareness beyond natural causality. All this time I have been afflicted by delusion. As I alone give light to this body, so I do to the world. As a result, the whole world is mine, or alternatively, nothing is. So now, abandoning the body and everything else, by some good fortune or other, my true self becomes apparent. Just as waves, foam, and bubbles are not different from water, so all this which has emanated

Siddhi Times USA 14

from oneself, is no other than oneself. In the same way that cloth is found to be just thread when analyzed, so when all this is analyzed, it is found to be no other than oneself. Just as the sugar produced from the juice of the sugarcane is permeated with the same taste, so all this, produced out of me, is completely permeated with me. From ignorance of oneself, the world appears, and by knowledge of oneself, it appears no longer. From ignorance of the rope, a snake appears; and by knowledge of it, it appears no longer. Shining is my essential nature, and I am nothing over and beyond that. When the world shines forth, it is simply me that is shining forth. All this appears in me imagined due to ignorance, just as a snake appears in the rope, the mirage of water in the sunlight, and silver

in mother of pearl. All this, which has originated out of me, is resolved back into me too, like a jug back into clay, a wave into water, and an ornament into gold. How wonderful I am! Glory is to me, for whom there is no destruction, remaining even beyond the destruction of the world, from Brahma down to the last clump of grass. How wonderful I am! Glory is to me, solitary even though with a body, neither going nor coming anywhere, I who abide forever, filling all that is. How wonderful I am! Glory is to me! There is no one as clever as me! I who have borne all that am forever, without even touching it with my body! How wonderful I am! Glory is to me! I who possess nothing at all or alternatively possess everything that speech and mind can refer to. Knowledge, what is to be known, and the knower, these three do not exist in reality. I am the spotless reality in which they appear because of ignorance. Truly dualism is the root of suffering. There is no other remedy for it than the realization that all this that we see is unreal, and that I am the one stainless reality, consisting of consciousness. I am pure awareness, though through ignorance I have imagined myself to have additional attributes. By continually reflecting like this, my dwelling place is in the Unimagined. For me there is neither bondage nor liberation. The illusion has lost its basis and ceased. Truly all this exists in me, though ultimately it does not even exist in me. I have recognized that all this and my body is nothing, while my true self is nothing but pure consciousness, so what can the imagination work on now? The body, heaven and hell, bondage and liberation, and fear too, all these are pure imagination. What is there left to do for me whose very nature is consciousness? Truly, I do not see dualism, even in a crowd of people. What pleasure should I have when it has turned into a wilderness? I am not the body, nor is the body mine. I am not a living being. I am consciousness. It was my thirst for living that was my bondage. Truly it is in the limitless ocean of me, that stimulated by the colorful waves of the worlds, everything suddenly arises in the wind of consciousness. It is in the limitless ocean of me that the wind of thought subsides, and the trader-like living beings’ world bark is wrecked by

lack of goods. How wonderful it is that in the limitless ocean of me the waves of living beings arise, collide, play, and disappear, according to their natures. After hearing the longer explanation of experiences by the student Janaka, the Master speaks more. Knowing yourself as truly one and indestructible, how could a wise man possessing self-knowledge like you feel any pleasure in acquiring wealth? Truly, when one does not know oneself, takes pleasure in the objects of mistaken perception. It is just as greed arises for the mistaken silver in one who does not know mother of pearl for what it is. All this wells up like waves in the sea. Recognizing, “I am that, why run around like someone in need? After hearing of oneself as pure consciousness and the supremely beautiful, is one to go on lusting after sordid sexual objects? When the sage has realized that he himself is in all beings, and all beings are in him, it is astonishing that the sense of individuality should be able to continue. It is astonishing that a man who has reached the supreme nondual state and is intent on the benefits of liberation should still be subject to lust and held back by sexual activity. It is astonishing that one already very debilitated, and knowing very well that its arousal is the enemy of knowledge should still hanker after sensuality, even when approaching his last days.

person, who knows that what he sees is by its very nature nothing, consider one thing to be grasped and another to be rejected? For someone who has eliminated attachment, and who is free from dualism and from desire, an object of enjoyment that comes of itself is neither painful nor pleasurable. This country is great and the world is the greatest. We are all living an uncomfortable life, even though we have all the earthly comforts needed for a comfortable living. What is the reason for it? We all forget the spirituality taught by our ancestors! By adopting this spiritual life, one can have a peaceful and comfortable life. I whole heartedly thank the Almighty and Swamiji Sri. Selvam Siddhar for blessing me with the chance to share my thoughts on Spirituality. I pray that they bless me with ever more opportunities such as this. In our next issue we will continue to discuss this same subject. Om Nama Shivaya.

It is astonishing that one who is unattached to the things of this world or the next, who discriminates between the permanent and the impermanent, and who longs for liberation, should still feel fear for liberation. Whether feted or tormented, the wise man is always aware of his supreme self-nature and is neither pleased nor disappointed. The great souled person sees even his own body in action as if it were some-one else’s, so how should he be disturbed by praise or blame? Seeing this world as pure illusion, and devoid of any interest in it, how should the strongminded person feel fear, even at the approach of death? Who is to be compared to the great souled person whose mind is free of desire, even in disappointment, and who has found satisfaction in selfknowledge? How should a strong-minded Siddhi Times USA 15

Akasthya Yoga by Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar- Dr Commander Selvam The Word YOGA comes from Sanskrit and means to unite, the coming together of Soul and God. Yoga is a process by which you can dissolve your Self with God. Yoga is a method of meditation which brings a breakthrough in the evolution of human awareness. By this process a person becomes moral, united, integrated and balanced. The all-pervading divine power can be felt or experienced as a cool breeze. “Know thyself” is the main theme of all the scriptures - it becomes evident and one reaches an absolute understanding of oneself. Yoga is not only for the physical body, people practice yoga for many reasons to feel more connected, to quiet the mind and to strengthen the body. It is a mind – body practice that enhances physical and mental fitness, as well as spiritual well – being. Yogis view that the mind and the body are one and that if it is given the right tools and taken to the right environment, it can find harmony and heal itself. Yoga therefore is considered therapeutic. It helps you become more aware of your body’s posture, alignment and patterns of movement. As people worldwide know the benefits of yoga, it makes the body more flexible and helps you relax even in Siddhi Times USA 16

the midst of a stress stricken environment. This is one of the foremost reasons why people want to start practicing yoga - to feel fitter, be more energetic, be happier and peaceful. The main aim of yoga that we are trying to achieve is to unite our soul with the super consciousness which is “Our God”. Our physical and mental healthiness is essential in order to reach this target. Yoga emphasizes good health and prevention of illnesses and diseases. Yoga is also used as a therapy to help us recover and over come illness and stresses caused by a hectic lifestyle. Our bodies and minds reflect the stress, tension and depression that we subject it to everyday. The term Pranayama is a word from the ancient Indian language Sanskrit. It refers to the regulation of our breathing activity and to controlling our life force. We all know that none of us can live for longer than a few minutes without breathing, yet many people either don’t breath well or are unaware of what it means to breath properly. With a bad breathing habit a person only utilizes a fraction of their body’s potential life force. Prana is an energy or a form of life force which we can perceive in nature: for example wind is an energy that we don’t see, yet we know it exists because of the movement of the trees or grass etc. Similarly Prana is also invisible but we can still perceive it, for instance when we put our fingers in front of our nose and feel our breath. Therefore our breath is an

external manifestation of Prana. When we learn to control our breath, then we can regulate the subtle energies in our body and also control our mind.

There are three different forms of Pranayama exercises: Puraka, Kumbhaka and Rechaka. Puraka is inhalation, Kumbhaka is holding the breath and rechaka is exhalation

In Yoga there are several breathing exercises that harmonize the flow of Prana in our body. There are five different forms of Prana in our body which regulate various bodily functions; Prana, Apana, Vyana, Udana and Samana.

The neighbor happily abides the request. A week passed, without Nasruddin knocking to return the pot. The neighbor and Nasruddin bump into each other at the bazaar a few days latter. Nasruddin’s neighbor asked, “Where is my pot?” “It’s dead,” said Nasruddin. “But how can that be?” asked the neighbor. Nasruddin explained, “If a pot can give birth, then a pot can die!”

O

ne day, Nasruddin came riding into town. The people stopped him to ask, “Why are you sitting back to front on your donkey?” He replied, “I know where I am going, I want to see where I have been.” Later that evening, Nasruddin was cooking up some things. He went to his neighbor and asked for a pot and promised to return it the next day. A knock, knock came on the neighbor’s door the next day. Nasruddin had come to return the pot. The neighbor looks at his pot and inside was one smaller. The neighbor said, “There is a small pot inside the one I loaned you.” Nasruddin told him, “The pot gave birth.” The neighbor was quite pleased to hear this and accepted the two pots. The very next morning, Nasruddin knocked on the neighbor’s door to borrow a larger pot than the previous one.

One afternoon, Nasruddin and his friend were sitting in a cafe, drinking tea, and talking about life and love. “How come you never got married?” Nasruddin asked his friend at one point. “Well,” said Nasruddin, “to tell you the truth, I spent my youth looking for the perfect woman. In Cairo, I met a beautiful and intelligent woman, with eyes like dark olives, but she was unkind. Then in Baghdad, I met a woman who was a wonderful and generous soul, but we had no interests in common. One woman after another would seem just right, but there would always be something missing. Then one day, I met her. She was beautiful, intelligent, generous, and kind. We had everything in common. In fact she was perfect!” “Well,” said Nasruddin’s friend, “what happened? Why didn’t you marry her?” Nasruddin sipped his tea reflectively. “Well,” he replied, “it is a sad thing. Seems she was looking for the perfect man!” Once upon a time, Nasruddin went to the marketplace and put up a sign that read: “Whoever has stolen my donkey, please return it to me, and I will give it to them.” “Nasruddin!” exclaimed the townspeople, “why would you put up such a sign?” “There are two great gifts in life,” replied Nasruddin. “One is to find something that you’ve lost and the other is to give something that you love away!” Mullah Nasruddin had a beautiful daughter. She was the desire of all the evil eyes of the men who lived in his village. Everyone sought the hand of the fair maiden, but Mullah Nasruddin protected her from the outside world, saving her for the wealthy young Khan who lived just outside the village. At last the young Khan came to ask for the hand of the beautiful maiden. Mullah Nasruddin Siddhi Times USA 17

drove a hard bargain and was to receive the highest bride-price ever bargained for in the entire region. With the usual Muslim regard for tradition, Mullah Nasruddin insisted on a long waiting-period before the wedding vows could be taken. However, it seemed that the young and beautiful daughter of Mullah Nasruddin had a mind of her own. She had fallen in love with a young stalwart ne’er-do-well in the village, who constantly showered her with attention as she went to the nearby well to gather water in the mornings and at dusk. Her trips to get water began to take longer periods of time. Most people in the village knew what was happening, but no one dared tell Mullah Nasruddin. The time for the wedding approached and the young, wealthy Khan came to collect his bride. Mullah Nasruddin brought her to greet her betrothal, and lo and behold, she was very well pregnant by this time! The young, rich Khan was horrified, and turned on the Mullah Nasruddin, demanding to know why such a thing had occurred. And when Mullah Nasruddin merely replied that such things are normal when people get married, the young, rich Khan stormed out of Mullah Nasruddin’s compound, and said that he withdrew his offer of marriage to the young beautiful daughter of Mullah Nasruddin; and therefore, would expect a return of his down payment on the bride’s price. Mullah Nasruddin,

genuinely shocked, called after the young, rich Khan, and the young Khan returned. “Let us be sensible about this,” pleaded Mullah Nasruddin. “Actually, I should double the bride price now that my daughter is truly pregnant and can give you a son.” The young Khan, even more horrified, stuttered and asked, “In the name of Allah, why?” Mullah Nasruddin calmly replied, “Why just last week I delivered a cow to a man to whom I had sold the cow several months before. In the interim period, the cow became pregnant, and when I delivered the cow, I demanded and received twice the original amount. Now what is so different between a cow and a daughter?” Nasruddin heard that there was a banquet being held in the nearby town, and that everyone was invited. He made his way there as quickly as he could. When the Master of Ceremonies saw him in his ragged clothes, he seated him in the most inconspicuous place, far from the great table where the most important people were being waited on hand and foot. Nasruddin saw that it would be an hour at least before the waiters reached where he was sitting. So he got up and went home. He dressed himself in a magnificent sable cloak and turban and returned to feast. As soon as the heralds of the Emir, his host, saw this splendid sight they started to beat the drum of welcome and sound the trumpets in a manner befitting a visitor of high rank. The Chamberlain came out of the palace himself, and conducted the magnificent Nasruddin to a place almost next to the Emir. A dish of wonderful food was immediately placed before him. Without a pause, Nasruddin began to rub handfuls of it into his turban and cloak. “Your Eminence,” said the prince, “I am curious as to your eating habits, which are new to me.” “Nothing special,” said Nasruddin; “the cloak got me in here and got me the food. Surely it deserves its portion!” One day Nasruddin was taking a walk in his village, when several of his neighbors approached him. “Nasruddin Hoja!” they said to him, “You are so wise and holy! Please take us as your pupils to teach us how we should live our lives, and what we should do!” Nasruddin paused, then said “Alright; I will teach you the first lesson

right now. The most important thing is to take very good care of your feet and sandals; you must keep them clean and neat at all times.” The neighbors listened attentively until they glanced down at his feet, which were in fact quite dirty and shod in old sandals that seemed about to fall apart. “But Nasruddin Hoja,” said one of them, “your feet are terribly dirty, and your sandals are a mess! How do you expect us to follow your teachings if you don’t carry them out yourself?” “Well,” replied Nasruddin, “I don’t go around asking people how I should live my life either, do I!” One day Mullah Nasruddin went to market to buy new clothes. First he tested a pair of trousers. He didn’t like the trousers and he gave back them to the shopkeeper. Then he tried on a robe which was the same price as the trousers. Mullah Nasruddin was pleased with the robe and he left the shop. Before he climbed on the donkey to ride home he was stopped by the shopkeeper and the shop-assistant. “You didn’t pay for the robe,” said the shopkeeper. “But I gave you the trousers instead of the robe, right?” replied Mullah Nasruddin. “Yes, but you didn’t pay for the trousers, either!” said the shopkeeper. “But I didn’t buy the trousers,” replied Mullah Nasruddin. “I am not so stupid as to pay for something which I never bought!”

O n c e upon a time there lived a stone cutter who went every day to a great rock in the side of a big mountain and cut out slabs for houses. He understood the kinds of stones very well, that are wanted for the different purposes, and as he was a careful workman he had plenty of customers. For a long time, he was quiet happy and contented and asked for nothing better than what he had. Now in the mountain dwelt a spirit which now and then appeared to men and helped them in many ways to become rich and prosperous. The stone cutter, how ever had never seen this spirit, and only shook his head, with an unbelieving air, when any one spoke of it. But a time came when he learnt to change his opinion. One day the stone cutter carried a grave stone to the house of a rich man, and saw there all sorts of beautiful things, of which he had never even dreamt. Suddenly his daily work seemed to grow harder and heavier, and he said to himself. “Oh if only I was rich man and could sleep in a bed with silken curtains and golden tassels, how happy I should be” and a voice answered him “Your

wish is heard: a rich man you shall be”. At the sound of the voice the stone cutter looked around, but could see nobody. He thought it was all his fancy, and picked up his tools and went home, for he did not feel inclined to do any more work that day. But when he reached the little house where he lived, he stood still with amazement for instead of his wooden hut was a stately palace filled with splendid furniture and most splendid of all was the bed , in every respect like the one he had envied. He was nearly beside himself and in his new life the old one was soon forgotten. It was now the beginning of summer and each day the sun blazed more fiercely. One morning the heat was so great that the stone cutter could scarcely breathe, and he determined he would stop at home till the evening. He was rather dull, for he had never learnt how to amuse himself and was peeping through the closed blinds to see what was going on in the street, when a little carriage passed by drawn by servants dressed in blue and silver. In the carriage sat a prince, and over his head a golden umbrella was held to protect him from the sun’s rays. “Oh if I were only a prince” said the stone cutter to himself as the carriage vanished around the corner. “Oh if I were only a prince and could go in such a carriage and have a golden umbrella held over me, how happy I should be”. And a prince he was. Before his carriage rode one company of men and behind it. Servants dressed in scarlet and gold bore him along, the coveted umbrella was held over his head, every thing his heart could desire was his. But it was not enough He looked around still for something to wish for and when he saw that in spite of the water he poured on the grass

the rays of the sun scorched it and that in spite of the umbrella held over his head each day his face grew browner and browner, he cried in his anger: “The sun is mightier than I If I were only the sun” And the mountain spirit answered. “Your wish is heard the sun you shall be” And the sun he was, and felt himself proud in his power. He shot his beams above and below, on earth and in heaven, he burnt up the grass in the fields and scorched the faces of princes as well as of poorer folk but in a short time he began to grow tired of his might, for there seemed nothing left for him to do. Discontent once more filled his soul, and when a cloud covered his face and hid the earth from him, he cried in his anger “Does the cloud hold captive my rays, and is it mightier than I? Oh that I be a cloud and mightier than any. And the mountain spirit answered “Your wish is heard a cloud you shall be”. And a cloud he was, and lay between the sun

and the earth. He caught the sun’s beams and held them, and to his joy the earth grew green again and flowers blossomed. But that was not enough for him and for days and week he poured forth rain till the rivers over flowed their banks and the crops of rice stood in water. Towns and villages were destroyed by the power of the rain, only the great rock on the mountainside remained unmoved. The cloud was amazed at the sight and cried in wonder “Is the rock then, mightier than I? Oh if I were only the rock “. And the mountain spirit answered your wish is heard the rock you shall be! And the rock he was and gloried in his power. Proudly he stood, and neither the heat of the sun nor the force of the rain could move him. “This is better than all” he said to himself. But one day he heard a strange noise at his feet, and when he looked down to see what it could be. He saw a stone cutter driving tools in to his surface.

ilence holds the key to opening doors to a wholesome life, ultimate liberation and attainment of happiness. It uplifts our visions, our concepts, our way of thinking, feeling and how we act in our world. Silence is the tool which helps us know and experience fully who we are and what our purpose in life is. Silence offers the way to complete liberation for body, mind and soul. The appreciation for silence replaces the need for addictive thoughts and activities. When we love silence, there is no reason to run away from our thoughts and fears. The practice of silence brings unspeakable peace. Speech is the biggest consumer of our energy; it depletes the oxygen in our body and mind and causes energy burnout. This is turn causes the mind to overheat, which leads us to become angry, impatient etc and hence we are unable to think or act calmly, coolly or rationally.

Even while he looked a trembling feeling ran all through him, and a great block broke off and fell up on the ground. Then he cried in his wrath; “Is a mere child of earth mightier than a rock? Oh If I were only a man”. And the mountain spirit answered “Your wish is heard once more you shall be a man”. And a man he was in the sweat of his brow he toiled again at his trade of stone cutting. His bed was hard and his food scanty but he had learnt to be satisfied with it and did not long to be something or somebody else. And as he never asked for things he did not have or desired to be greater and mightier than other people, he was happy at last and never again heard the voice of the mountain spirit.

There can be many other ways to communicate with each other without using speech, Swamiji believes that when two people meet it is possible to communicate in an energetic level because communication is not just only by speech, but by synchronizing energy levels you can also communicate. Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar also known as Dr. Commander Selvam does much work with energy and believes we can synchronies our energy more in silence rather then through speech. Also he feels why we can’t develop other methods of communicating other then speech as he feels we loose so much of the essence of what we are trying to express through speech. Words can only ever give a limited interpretation of our real feeling; words will never grasp the real sentiments of feelings and emotions.

Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar also known as Dr. Commander Selvam recommends the practice of silence in his workshops and seminars. Only by participating in this silence therapy will you realize the benefits of it and the amount of energy you will gain from it. Siddhi Times USA 21

Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar also known as Dr. Commander Selvam believes healing energy flows more freely in silence Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar also known as Dr. Commander Selvam has been practicing silence at a very young age. At the age of fourteen he spent three months alone in the jungle. Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar also known as Dr. Commander Selvam has spent many other periods in silence, anything from three or six months up to a year. Spending time in silence in both important and necessary for Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar also known as Dr. Commander Selvam to exist in this world. Swamiji would like to express to people about his nature and his need for silence as a person, while traveling with his work or whether at home in the ashram he would encourage people to hug him or sit with him in silence from time to time. Swamiji would also like to express to people that he is extremely approachable and accessible if they would like to talk with and tell him their problems, he will listen and try to heal them. Atharav vedic Sound therapy invented by Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar for harmonization and deep relaxation:The technique of sound therapy has its roots in Nada Yoga, the yoga of sound, as well as in Yoga Nidra, the deep relaxation of yoga. Since time immemorial, sounds of Indian stringed instruments have been applied for healing and harmonization. In former times people have used stringed instruments for playing sacred music and as an accompaniment and assistance for the pujas (rituals), meditations and also for the yoga-asanas. And also today musicians in India are still invited to perform at rituals, healings and Yoga Nidra. In the course of our society’s media development, the CD has replaced the quality of live music. But Indian music always emerges newly in every moment and is a transmission from heart to heart.

The effects of sound therapy

Sound therapy contributes to the relaxation of tensions and blockades caused by stress. The getting down to a deep state of

Siddhi Times USA 22

peaceful mind revitalizes and restores the self healing forces. The sounds produce a tender massage reaching more or less deeply into the inner body. Selected tone scales (Ragas) of the Indian music tradition support the re-discovery of the basic harmonic condition of the mind. Using relaxation exercises at the beginning, the listener opens up for the nourishing and healing tones. The music leads to an extended self perception. It activates the inner experience and can help to discover a new access to one’s own inner resources. All body organs and senses come to peace hardly found even asleep. Crucial for this deep relaxation is the experience of real live music, as only this way a true dialog between musician and audience can begin, while the musician is sensitively in accordance with the immediate experience of the listener.

The Rudra Veena

The Bin or Rudra Veena is a zither and belongs to the oldest classical instruments of India. According to traditional sayings Shiva has created it while he meditated on the beauty of his wife Parvati. The Rudra Veena is an early form of the popular Sitar and has been called the mother and queen of Indian strings. Rich in basses and overtones the Rudra Veena has been the ideal musical instrument to arouse a meditative condition of mind since centuries. Due to it’s sound frequencies it is possible to resolve blockades very effectively in a quite easy manner.

The Sitar

The Sitar is a long-necked lute and was created 700 years ago from the well known musician Amir Khusru. The instrument is a further development of the Persian Setar and the Indian Rudra Veena. The Sitar has through many resonant strings a very fine and lyrical character. The sound is suitable for heart openings and meditative concerts. Certain works in the world needs only physical strength. For example, lifting a weight. Certain works need only mental strength. For example, working with a computer. It needs only mental power and there is no need for physical strength. But sex is the only work, which needs mental and physical strength. A lot of people suffer due to this and they go to a sexologist for their health check up. They undergo a lot of medication but the result will be nothing. Some people face horrible situations in their life. Some people have gone to the extent of divorce and some have gone even to the extent of committing suicide. What is the reason for all these things? The horoscope and the position of the planets in the horoscope are the only reasons for all these things. According to Atharva Vedic Astrology the planet Venus, which is called as Sukran, is the in charge of enjoyments. The planet Venus, if he is in his own house individually in one’s horoscope it is very sure that the person will have a satisfied sexual life. If the plant Venus is in his full power (uccham) it is very sure that the person will wander for more and more sex. If the planet Venus is powerless in a male’s horoscope he will have the problem of premature ejaculation. If the planet Venus is powerless in a female’s horoscope she will wander for having sex with more than one man. If the planet Venus is seated along with the Planet Moon in on female’s horoscope it is very sure that she will have more than one partner for sex. If the planet Venus is seated with the planet Mars in a male’s horoscope it is very sure that he will be a homosexual personality. If the planet Jupiter is seated with the planet Venus, in one’s horoscope, he/ she will have no interest towards sex. The aforesaid are only examples. There are a lot of things to analyze regarding one’s sexual life and how much enjoyment one will have in the life. The transit of major planets like Jupiter, Saturn, Raaghu and Kethu also play a role in deciding the capacities of an individual. The planets are the only authorities to decide on the life of an individual. There is a vast different between the regular astrology and Vedic astrology. According to the regular astrology only the planetary position of an individual is analyzed. But in Vedic astrology the Karma, is also being analyzed. Especially Atharva Veda deals a lot in all of these aspects. Our ancestors were intellectual giants. They have foreseen what will happen in future and how to come out of those troubles. It will be the best to consult an Atharva Veda scholar before taking any important decisions. Only by taking the consultation and adopting the procedures advised by the Vedic scholar anybody can come out of their

problems very easily. The procedures may be tough at times to adopt but having in mind to get out of the problems one should adopt the procedures as prescribed by the Vedic scholar. We all consult the doctor to come out of our physical ailments and we take the medications as per the advice of the doctor. Like that we should undergo the prescribed procedures prescribed by the Vedic scholar to have a beautiful life.

Life is not a bed of roses. Things are not that smooth as we expect them to be. Marriage is the most beautiful relationship that happens to everyone at some point of time. In today’s world each and every one faces many problems in life. All need salvation for the problems. Marriage is the most important part of a human life. According to the words of Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar), “There is neither dependence nor independence but inter dependence but the inter dependence starts”. There is an old saying “Marriages are made in Heaven”. As per the Vedic scriptures the marriage is a social, spiritual, or legal union of individuals. This union may also be called matrimony, while the ceremony that marks its beginning is usually called a wedding and the married status created is called wedlock. Marriage takes many forms: a union between one man and one woman as husband and wife is a normal and regular marriage. It is called as arranged marriage. The marriage is decided by the elders of the couple. The next is the love marriage. Vedic scriptures define this kind of marriage as “Gaandharvam’. Some marriages are done in a very secret manner. These kinds of marriages are called as “Raakshasam” (the system of marriage followed by the demon kings) and many more like this. A man who marries more than one woman is called as polygamy and a woman who marries more than one man is called as polyandry. These were not very common in ancient days. But nowadays these things have become very common. What is the reason for this? Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Selvam Siddhar), the only living Siddhar of the entire western countries and the only scholar of Atharva Veda in the entire Western countries, reply in a word. The reply is “planets”. Siddhi Times USA 25

Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar) scrutinizes the horoscope and paves the wonderful path for salvation. Before going deep to solve the problems, it is a must to analyze why the problem happens. The analyzing tool is astrology. The usage of the tool is horoscope. The preparation of horoscopes is to be done by a well learned Atharva Veda scholar and the horoscopes should be scrutinized only by him. The planet position clearly tells about the married life of the couple. Some couple has a long and peaceful married life. Some couple has a long married life but without any peaceful ness in the family and often quarrels between each other. Some couple has a very short span of married life. Some women become widow at the later stage, some at the early stage. Some men become widower at the later stage and some at the early stage. What is the reason for all these kinds of problems? The answer is “Planets’. Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri. Selvam Siddhar) is well versed in Atharva Vedic astrology. Among all different techniques of astrology Atharva Vedic astrology is the most ancient one and is the most accurate one. According to Atharva Veda techniques, the horoscope is to be scrutinized in 144 angles. Then only we can have a clear solution for the problems. According to the Atharva Veda, astrology is only a tool to find the root cause of a problem. It is not a solution to solve the problems. Atharva Veda tells about the rituals for the wonderful Yaksha/Yakshini devathas to solve the marriage related problems. The request to gods is called as Siddhi Times USA 26

prayer. The request to the Yaksha /Yakshini devathas to solve a problem is called as rituals. By properly performing the rituals as per the directions of Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri. Selvam Siddhar) and by the blessings of the almighty and Yaksha/Yakshini devathas the problems will be put to an end. To know about the problems in marriage and salvation of the problems approach Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar). The problems related to pre marriage issues are unable to find a suitable life partner, unable to find the proper time to get married and so on. The post marriage problems are, lack of understanding, unable to have the proper sex, unable to lead a peaceful family life and unable to get proper income to run the life peacefully. Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar) has wonderful mantra powers and knowledge on Atharva Veda. He gives wonderful salvation for the problems through the rituals. Atharva Veda rituals means finding solution of problems related

to an individual’s Health, Wealth, Career, Obstacles, Happiness, married life, relationship and many other problems based on principles of Vedic astrology. After analyzing the horoscope of an individual Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri.Selvam Siddhar) suggests unique remedial measures to solve even chronic and critical problems in day to day life.

A Direct Experience of God

By Father Peter Bowes

Many say they believe in God, but believing in God is not the same as having a direct experience of God. Direct means firsthand, not second-hand. It is not hearsay or conjecture. Direct means something happens to you. You go through something, and then you can say you have had an experience. Throughout history, belief in God has resulted in people gathering for worship in churches, mosques, and temples. All over the world people still congregate based on similar beliefs about God. But how many can really say they know God? Love and faith are the two most important qualities that make a substantial relationship with God possible. Love pulls you to the Divine Being; faith expects that something real will happen. Love connects you and God together; faith brings trust that God will respond to your hopes. Love creates the opening for something genuine to occur in relationship with God; faith reaches out beyond what is comfortable, stretching you to feel and see what you long for with your whole heart, mind and soul. A direct experience of God requires love and faith, both of which play integral roles in preparing you to meet God. With love and faith, you let the Divine Being know you care enough so that God will come and give you God’s Self. You have to silence the mind and the emotions, and develop a stillness that can wait for a response from God. With meditation and prayer, a person can clear the mind of the world and the distractions of the senses in preparation for this meeting with God. God will come when you have cleared away all the other gods in your life, and this takes work, patience and diligent effort. The initial phase of this preparation can be somewhat discouraging because the most dark and detrimental parts of your nature show up for review. You just can’t ask God to come into a place soiled with dirt, confusion and negative energy, so you will have to make a clean and wholesome space before you invite God to reside in you. Often you will need a Teacher – someone who has had a direct experience of God, who can see what needs to be drawn out of you – to help you clear the space within you. All the mystics and saints have described direct experience of God in much the same ways. Each describes experiencing the love of their life in the embrace of God’s kiss and God’s presence. No fear can exist in the presence of God since God is all love and light. God is inside you and is loving you with every ounce you are willing to receive, and this experience will move you from belief to knowing. When you come into a direct experience of the God at the center of your being, it will change you completely, and you will know a profound peace that cannot be disturbed by the confusion of the world. How many days to take benefit Another common question is how soon can one expect to experience the benefits of wearing or installing a Yantra. This usually takes 45 days but this is a conservative estimate. Some Atharva Yantras activate results almost immediately if one’s karmic potential is ripe. Others work better over the long term, gradually but steadfastly increasing stages of blessings. Atharva Yantras for prosperity and wealth are usually of this category. Hence patience is required. For example, the Yaksha Atharva Kuber Yantra may or may not bestow immediate results but the patient person will eventually see benefits. It is known that the greatest bounties that can be conferred by the Yaksha Atharva Kuber Yantra come after 3 years in many cases. Atharva Yantras for health, preventing accidents and mishaps and the like, are known to be working if nothing is going wrong! However, despite one’s best intentions, the desired results may not always be achieved. This is usually due to reasons of karma that have to be worked out and experienced before the organism can achieve its desire.

Sri Sri Selvam Siddhar- Dr. Commander Selvam “Siddhar” Yantra is an instrument, or a talisman or a mystical diagram usually in copper. It is a technique or path, considered the simplest and shortest, through which one can attain one’s desires, and fulfill one’s wishes. It is said that the ‘Deities’ reside in the Atharva Yantras and by performing ‘Rituals’ or worship of Atharva Yantras, one can appease them, remove the malefic effects of planets, and increase the flow of positive energy. Procedures to be followed by you to place this energized Atharva Yantra. 1. First purify your body and start with a clear and positive mind frame 2. Find a place on the floor facing east, where you will be undisturbed. 3. Light the incense or diya. (It does not matter how many you light). 4. Lay a fresh flower and a fresh fruit on the altar. 5. Open the Atharva Yantra and place it along with the image of the deity of Atharva yantra and your isht God. 6. Take the water with any leaf from any tree and sprinkle the water on yourself followed by sprinkling the water on the Atharva Yantra. 7. Close your eyes and concentrate on the deity to bless you with wishes. Now with all sincerity, ask God to grant you the desire of your life that you wanted to be fulfilled in your own language. Vedic Yantras are Energised (Pran pratishta) by learned purohits, by reciting the vedic mantra of the particular Devi or Devata. Siddhi Times USA 34

Attorney Mr. AP Jeyachandran Coimbatore, India Now, thousands of people have been asking about the status of the criminal case against the Hindu Temple of Atlanta’s board members which is on hold since, the judge on duty is undertaking some type of training. But as soon as he comes back to his seat, we will have some interesting news on the case updated in our world famous Siddhi Times magazine. We do have an update on the two priests who fled from our Hindu Temple of Georgia after stealing $ 16,200.00 the Temple’s donated cash, with the support of the three criminal conspirators, Valmikinathan Raghunathan, Sundaram Raghunathan, and Chandramohan Loganathan. They got arrested by the Indian police and were taken into custody and then released.. After a few days they went with weapons to murder the Indian employees of the Hindu Temple of Georgia, under the advice of the three conspirators. These three international terrorists, Valmikinathan, Raghunathan, Sundaram Raghunathan and Chandramohan Loganathan,( who for so many years never held any proper

Out of the accused, Mr. Muthukrishnan became the state witness for the police and admitted to the murder attempt on the Indian employees of Hindu Temple of Georgia! The balances of the criminals are awaiting and sentencing from the Judge. Most likely they will go to jail for attempt murder and other crimes. A Tamil magazine called Nakkeeran which joined forces with these criminal conspirators is also facing serious criminal charges and they are waiting for their trial date! As

the

infamous

terrorists

Chandramohan Loganathan, Valmikinathan Raghunathan, and his closest brother

Sundaram Raghunathan are waiting to be taken into custody by the police, since they are in contempt of the court. They have not attended a single required criminal court appearance. Indian lawyers are working with law & enforcement to get these criminal conspirators to India soon. Chandramohan Loganathan who appears to be the head of all this criminal conspiracy is being sued in Cobb County for two counts of Malicious Prosecution and one other serious case of physical assault on a Hindu Priest. His wife Ananthi Palamuthu, who goes by the name Ana Palamuthu, who is believed to be the owner of Kumon math and reading tutorial center in Kennesaw,GA is also named in one of the Lawsuit in the Gwinnett County. The beauty here is that, Chandramohan Loganathan who has not had a proper job for many years is now spending most of his time running the conspirator’s team. I expect that he will end up in some more lawsuits.

“TERROR’’ One piece of interesting news is that one of the brothers of Mr.Valmikinathan Raghunathan who goes by the name Dr. Sankaran Raghunathan has started a management school in Chennai, India by the name “National Management School”, where the students must pay around 9.00 Lakhs Rupees for a degree that is not even recognized by any Indian University. One of our under cover agent as a student ,who spoke with Dr. Sankaran Raghunathan informed that, getting admission to universities in the US and getting a Student Visa is very difficult right now. But an easy way of coming to

as soon as he comes to Atlanta (USA). This is called a “Paper Marriage” and may cost between US $ 10,000.00 and US $ 20,000.00. When the undercover agent asked, Dr. Sankaran “Don’t you think that it’s fraud and forgery? ” Dr Sankaran replied coolly, that ,”he is well connected with all kinds of people in Atlanta and also he knows someone in the US consulate in Chennai, India to help his school ,to get Visa and he will take care of everything!” once you give Rs 9 Lakhs to him! Here is the question. When Dr. Sankaran Raghunathan, who is one of the Raghunathan brothers in Atlanta, where they are the founders of Blueshift India, Private Limited, which has been running under heavy losses for many years now, how is he going to teach his management students to manage someone’s business profitably, when he himself can not manage his Blueshift business profitably? Currently, one of the Gwinnett County Police officers, who is also the part of the conspi racy, is under Internal Affairs and FBI investigation! This officer, in a mad way took his gun and put in front of the chest of three Hindu priests and threatened them to withdraw their complaints against these criminal conspirators! Why are all of these things happening to a place of worship or to a Swamiji? As per our Swamiji Selvam Siddhar‘s word, “It’s KARMA!” According to my word, it is jealousy and irritation at someone’s growth, name and fame, and success. Anyway, let God bless all these evil minded people to get restored to good thoughts and good attitudes. More breaking news to come in the next edition of Siddhi Times.

not distinguish between human beings and animals or between animate beings and inanimate things. They were all alike eligible for peace and happiness. The Veda treats all aspects of existence equally as sources of comfort or distress for man depending on how he approaches them. By adopting spirituality in the day to day life one can enjoy a comfortable life fully well. Dr. Commander Selvam (Swamiji Sri. Selvam Siddhar) is the only living Siddhar and Atharva Veda scholar in the entire western countries. He has established a wonderful Hindu Temple in

All religions have all along their history cherished and held peace which is the most valuable treasure for mankind. All the schools of thought, all the saints and seers, all the visionaries and poets have advocated the cause of peace. Indeed, all the religions of the world and all prophets have sung the praises of peace; and whatever may be the doctrinal or other differences between religions and sects, there is perfect unanimity in their appeal for peace as the most honored possession of man. Naturally, one may wonder why in spite of such unanimous advocacy of peace, mankind has been witnessing wars and conflicts without a break all through history. There is not a single country in the world, which has not suffered by the breach of peace to a smaller or to a greater extent. Great saints and prophets have come and gone. They have all preached peace eloquently and honestly, but their influence has not been considerable in preventing dissensions and conflicts. The doctrine of Atharva Veda says that ‘na hi kadachid anidrasam jagat’ (The world was never any different from what it is now) implies that the affairs of the world do not alter with the passage of time and that human nature remains identical whatever the affairs of the world. History,

in a sense, truly repeats itself. Wars have always been fought; and violence, deceit, ambition, envy, hatred, fear, suspicion, anger, pride, revenge, passion and prejudice have dogged man all through his career on the globe. The course of mankind has not changed despite prophets and messiahs, sages and seers. But this is no justification for pessimism or cynicism. It is the nature of all phenomena that when things go wrong, corrections are promptly applied and the original state is sought to be restored. Wars are fought and peace is sought thereafter. Periods of agitation and turmoil are always followed by spells of calm and comfort. Depravity soon gives place to good sense. But is a significant detail to note that such corrections do not occur spontaneously or mechanically. There are always at the back of all these changes. And such individuals are divinely inspired and operate as emissaries of Destiny. Whenever evil prevails and the good suffers, God manifests Himself to put down the evil and support the cause of the good.

Hypocrisy of Hindu Temple of Atlanta, Riverdale, Georgia, USA

Ex President Hindu Temple of Atlanta

The so called Sudarshna Saharanama Parayanam by the Hindu Temple of Atlanta in Riverdale Georgia performed in a shopping mall just above a BAR? The practice of religion is not like taking out the garbage. There are a lot of rules and restrictions to be observed in the performance of prayers and rituals. The nature of the performer, the participants, and the place are all mentioned in detail in the Vedas and the Agamas of Hinduism. Not only do they clearly specify the mentality of the devotee, organizers, and the priests, they even state rules right down to the location where the prayers are to be performed. The poojas and the chanting is to be done only at specified places. That place should be very pure. That’s why the Temples are called “Sanctum Sanctorum.” The Mantras should be chanted in a holy place. There is a Temple on the south side of Atlanta called the Hindu Temple of Atlanta. Even though they have roughly twenty physicians and several multimillionaires serving on different committees and as trustees, its construction has still not been completed after approximately twenty-eight years since their inception. Recently their board members conducted a “famous” SUDHARSHANA SAHASRANAMA PARAYANAM few weeks back in the Global Mall, a public shopping mall located just one block over from our Hindu Temple of Georgia. The great physician Dr Ravi Sharma, the Ex-President and spokesman for the Hindu

Temple of Atlanta, presented himself as an authority on Hindu Agamas and Vedas on a local cable television station last year. He gave his candid opinion, public ally, about how a Hindu Temple should be run. Now there is nothing wrong about giving an opinion - that’s a freedom of speech – however, before giving an authoritative opinion about something, one should make sure that they actually follow their own advice! That is what is known as proper leadership. They conducted this Sudarsana Sahasranama Paryanam in a public shopping mall where no Hindu Agamas are required to be followed. Nothing wrong about that; since after all, it is just a shopping mall where all kinds of people come, sometimes without taking baths, drinking alcohol, and eating meat, and women during their menstrual periods (females traditionally should not come to a place of prayer at the time of their menstruation). Here are the shocking facts. This Parayanam occurred, with many of their board members and their family in attendance, where two restaurant and bars are located less than approximately fifty feet away. These places cook all kinds of meats! The unfortunate Lord Sudarsan must have been sitting sadly without knowing how to give the proper mentality to the great leaders and priests of the Hindu Temple of Atlanta who profess they are the authority on Hindu Agamas! Another shocking thing is that directly under the first floor of the shopping center where the Paryanam was held, and where Lord Sudarsan was sitting very sadly, a huge restaurant

which serves all kinds of Drinks and Meat is also located. The Parayanam proceeded very well with Lord Sudar sana surrounded by active alcohol drinkers, smokers, meat eaters, dancers, and socializers. Wow! What a great Sudarsan Sahasranama Maha Parayanam! The word Sudarsana means a person who exhibits correct and good behavior, and I believe Lord Sudarsan was not comfortable in showing the right ways and attitudes for these organizers. We don’t know if Dr. Ravi Sharma forgot to mention to his followers his authoritative opinion about how temples should operate: “The Temple is a place where meat, alcohol, smoking is not allowed!” However, it is all very unusual. Another interesting fact is that for many years this mall has had three small temples located in little rooms, or shops, within the shopping center, where just under all the Hindu Gods are sitting, a very large amount of dancing, drinking, smoking, and meat eating are occurring daily. Apparently there a lots of Temples within close proximity to alcohol and meat! But, it appears that Dr. Ravi Sharma and his board members must be living on the moon and they just aren’t aware of what is happening in Atlanta! However, they sure purport to know exactly what’s happening in the Hindu Temple of Georgia. Dr. Ravi Sharma’s hypocritical opinions appear to be motivated out of jealousy and irritation at someone else’s rapid growth, pure and simple.

What is rightly said by our Swamiji Selvam Siddhar, “Correct yourself, before you correct other one?” (Christians say the same thing: “Remove the plank from your eye, before you attempt to remove the splinter from another’s eye.”) Being true Hindus, how are people able to participate in these kinds of so called religious ceremonies?

All over North America our Siddhi Times is the only Hindu Spiritual Magazine available for free. Millions of people appreciate this; however, one always lives with people who are jealous and irritated by your growth. It is even more inevitable when there are crooks in the community.

Whoever went for the 20 Sudarsana Sahasranama Parayanam where meat and alcohol is supplied just fifty feet from the saddened Lord Sudarsana, I would say that either they are not proper Hindus, or else they must feel that advice is for someone else and not for themselves. It looks like traditional Hindu rules are changed according to their needs, whims, and fancies!

Even the priests in their Temple are getting around $ 1,500.00 to $ 2500.00 in their paychecks. This was reported by a priest who left the Hindu Temple of Atlanta because of the politics and inside fighting. After so many years of their excellent duty they were still getting only a small wage. And they were forced to collect from the THATTU KANIKKAI, whatever comes on the Arathi plate. I am a priest, and if I am forced to watch my Thattu Kanikkai, then how I would I do my Archana properly to Lord Balaji, or to Lord Shiva? Why have so many people left Hindu Temple of Atlanta? Talk to them and they will give strange and scary stories about the inside politics, fights, ego clashes and so on between the Board members. Pundit Rudra, India

As rightly said by Swamiji Selvam Siddhar, “You will live according to your thoughts.” It looks like that’s why the Hindu Temple of Atlanta’s construction is still not 100% completed approximately 28 years after their inception, even with lots of multimillionaires as their Trustees and Board members. A few of the dancing instructors who are holding classes in the Hindu Temple of Atlanta came to the Swamiji of the Hindu Temple of Georgia. As usual, they wanted everything for free. They only wanted to pay $ 50.00 a month to the Temple to rent dance class space. The wise Swamiji advised that, “You guys are going to end up paying 30% on your income as taxes! Why don’t you donate=2 01/3rd of your fees to our Temple and use our Community Center for your dance needs.” Well that was it! Every one of them flew back to the Hindu Temple of Atlanta saying that the Swamiji is asking a lot of money! Now, let’s look at what was the real problem here. When you make money, definitely you will have to pay taxes on it. However, most of these people don’t show their real dance and music incomes. They take it as cash, so that they won’t have to show it to the IRS! Let’s look at another big rip-off. Lord Balaji and Lord Shiva. They make easily around $ 5,000.00 per Arankettram. So, what about the Poor? Lord Balaji only gets $ 50.00, some times little more as his share; however, Lord Balaji is always trying to settle his debt to Lord Kubera. With these type people, even Lord Balaji does not know when he is going to settle his long held debt to Lord Kubera!

Vedic Astrology M

arriage problems ? Family Problems ? Business/ Job Problems ? Love problems ? Advise by by Sri Selvam “Siddhar”- Dr Commander Selvam What does it signify? Do these planets have any influence on the earth? How can one define these influences? During the Vedic Era, the Sages and the Saints known as Rishis and Munis used to calculate the time from the sunrise till sunset by viewing the shadows. During night time they used the stars positions to judge the time of the moment. Unlike these days they never had any clock and measuring instruments, yet they were far more accurate in finding the planetary positions and their movements. What they found is astonishingly accurate to today’s developed science and technology. They identified the planets and its influence on the earth and its particles so precisely that each planet has some relative element in its existence. Listed below are some of the links and examples that are quite relevant to Astrology and its notions. Sun being the largest star in our Solar system, while passing its rays to the earth, also touches many other planets before entering into the earth’s atmosphere. Thus radiation emanated from the Sun is a mixture of rays with contamination from other planets. These mixed rays are suitable for some and not so for others, whether human or otherwise. To overcome these problems they found simple solutions from nature itself and discovered that each planet is, in one or other way linked to the nature, viz. tree, plants, grain, mineral and color too.

They precisely found the links and identified it with remarkable influences. For instance, wheat is identified with Sun and if a person has the Star Sun placed in a weaker position, then he is advised to substitute wheat with other food items. This is a corrective measure which helped the sufferer from the ill effects of the planet/star. Like wise, for each planet they marked a particular grain, mineral, metal, tree or plant, color and flower. Within my limited knowledge, I give below the list of each planet and its relative substance on the earth. 0ne can then easily understand why an astrologer suggests some gem or other to weed off the ill effects of a specific planet. I am giving hereunder the sample stones also for one to recognize. Alright. Now what about its effects and influences on humans? How can one be sure which color or stone suites someone best? What effect these gems will have on a person? Let us study these points one by one. First, let us discuss the planet Saturn. People in general tend to fear saying this planet’s name and are scared once they find that they are under the influence of Saturn (Saade Sathi or the so called Seven and half years period of Saturn’s cycle). Saturn Saturn is identified with Iron & Steel and its rays contain Iron particles. When Iron substance is excessively found in one’s body then the neuron chips in the brain gets disturbed. Thus the emitting of brain wave is also disturbed or scattered and this puts a person under Saturn’s effects to great hardship. People tend to ignore this person. Many a time clashes occur. A person under its influence is likely to slip

Sri Sri Selvam “Siddhar” from his or her routine. They are more often attracted towards unwanted and unlawful activities. Greed takes them for a ride and they may even tend to go for gambling, howsoever a refined person he or she may be. Saturn is a very slow moving planet and it takes roughly two and half years to cross one sign of 30 degrees. Unless it is a new moon or full moon day, generally during all Saturdays, the atmospheric pressure is very minimal. This low pressure in atmosphere causes lethargic attitude in most of us and for those who suffer from the Seven and Half years (Sade Sathi) period of Saturn, in particular. That’s why persons affected by it become lazy and lethargic during the ill effect period. This I have seen in many peoples’ horoscopes that practically during the Saturn’s ill effect periods known as Sade Sathi, they tend to forget even most important assignment, lose valuable items, become very lethargic and inactive, lose weight, and spend money more than usual and mostly borrow it even if it is for higher interest rates etc. thus taking him to a bad debt trap. Many a person who suffered these bad effects were given some remedial suggestions according to astrological considerations. If a person wears a blue sapphire stone during that specific period, the Saturn’s ill effects are minimal. But how a stone or gem can bring solace is questioned by many. The fact is that the mineral content in a particular stone and Siddhi Times USA 43

the cosmic radiation combined together are beneficial, that much one can be sure of. And there is always a link between our Mother Earth and the Celestial movement of planets; even the researchers inform, that some sort of sound emission from other planets too reaches the Earth; this sound vibration too causes some disturbances with any person affected during the 7and half year (Saade Sathi) period. Some alternative methods are also suggested to weed off Saturn’s radiations. 0ne such suggestion is to light/burn the gingili (sesame) seeds soaked into gingili (sesame) oil and inhale the carbon. This method is practically done on every Saturday evenings in the famous South Indian temples which hold a separate location for the Temple of Planets. This method supposedly relieves one from Saturn’s ill effects, viz. by inhaling the gingili Carbon, the ventricles take it directly to the brain and the chemical reaction caused in the brain releases the excessive Saturn Radiations from the brain, through the seven visible holes in the face itself - i.e. nostrils, ear, eyes and mouth. In addition, the skull punch or the focal point, (from where brain waves are emitted) also ventilates the Saturn’s radiations. Saturn’s rays are, presumably, thick containing more iron substance/iodine. Another such method is, just to keep the gingili seeds into one’s palm for few minutes and then to gift it to a Brahman. It is said, that gingili seeds absorbs the Saturn’s rays directly from the body and gives relief to the sufferer. This is also done on a Saturday. It is widely believed that the receiver of this gingili gets the ill effects of the Planet Saturn and the receiver is mostly a Brahman who should take remedial measures to correct the imbalances. This I shall discuss in a separate article under Duties of a Brahmin. RAHU Next to Saturn, the people in India are generally scared of the Shadow planet called Rahu which is known as “Dragon’s Head” or Ascendant Node. Though this is called a shadow planet and it takes anti clock wise move, its influence in one’s horoscope is very high. Very particularly during its Dasa period of 18 years. Rahu represents many ill aspects in general. Rahu is identified with Black Cobra, poison, Zircon, black magic, gambling, black

gram, black stone, blade grass (Dhruva in Hindi) menial jobs, slavery, all sorts of skin ailments, venereal deceases, impotency, childlessness, jail/imprisonments etc etc. In short this planet mostly gives only negative results when it is ill placed in one’s horoscope. If Rahu is placed in the fifth house from Lagna or Ascendant, then the native is most likely (he/she) childless and in some cases only female issues and surely no male child. If there is any conjunction with other planet, this result may, however, vary. Likewise, if this planet is placed in the 6th house, the native is likely to suffer from skin ailments, skin burns, dryness, sore skin etc. That too when the Rahu Dasa is running; and if Rahu is transiting through the 6th house, then ill effects are sure to be there and critical too. To weed off the negative aspects of this planet, there are many remedial suggestions given in the ancient astrology. One such suggestion is to consume the essence of the Blade Grass daily, about three to five tea spoonfuls, for a consecutive 48 days. This way one gets his/her blood purified and the skin ailment vanishes. This medicinal remedy is so powerful that I have seen people getting better after consuming it. Another kind of remedy somewhat resembles pressure therapy. It is believed that if a person under Rahu’s influence is made to lay on the black gram seeds for a particular no. of hours then the seeds absorb the ill effective rays from the body. Also the pressure of the seeds on the body itself gives some massage like therapy thus one gets a maximum benefit achieved by using the Black gram. Now for the fourth alternate suggestion given in the astrology scripts. It is widely known as a pilgrimage to the temples which cures any ailments that relate to Rahu’s placement in a native’s birth chart. There are 3 such temple locations for Rahu and Ketu. 0ne is in Trimbakeshwar in Maharashtra, other at Kaalahasthi in Andhra Pradesh and the third is Thirunaageswaram in Tamilnadu. To get more details on these and the benefits one receives on a visit to any one of these places, please read my article under head “Astrology, Myth & Facts” in this site. It is self explanatory. The third Planet people worry about is Ketu. This is also a shadow planet and it is always at 180 degrees opposite to Rahu. This planet too moves in anti clock wise direction. Ketu is the kaaraka or cause for many good and bad events in one’s life. MARS The well known Manglik, Kuja Dosham or what they call as Chevvai Dosham. Mars, is identified as the Ruling planet of earth and known as Bhoomi Karaka. It is denoted with brothers, Fire, Accidents, cuts, wounds, injuries, rudeness, anger, short temper, lethal weapon and War. It is also a most feared planet in general and marriage alliance seekers in particular.

People in India are too scared about the planet Mars known as Kuja or Mangal. If this Planet is placed in the 2nd, 4th, 7th or 8th houses from one’s ascendant or from the Moon sign in their horoscope/Natal Chart, then it is really difficult for them to find a suitable match and get married. It is a very foolish idea that marriages in India are delayed only on this count. I know a number of persons affected by branding them as “manglik” They fear that if a person is married to a non manglik either one of them will die soon. The fear of reduced longevity for one of the coupled makes everyone to think twice before the wed lock.

I emphasis here, for the readers to understand that manglik is not any untoward. Nor should one have any fear of it. It is nothing but a classification of Blood group that can be judged by the placement of Mars in their natal chart. In simples terms, Negative goes with Negative and Positive with Positive. Whether it is electricity or human body, the rule is same. So when next time you search for an alliance, if you find the match is perfect in every respect excepting the placement of Mars, then better you go for matching the blood group rather than fully depending on the unpredictable astrology!!

As many astrologers profess this as a major cause or set back for one’s marriage, many of the match making efforts are tactically rejected showing only on this count. No doubt, the planetary influences are to the maximum extent causing some imbalances in everybody’s life, it certainly cannot be taken as granted to reject an alliance only on the ground that the person is “manglik”.

I am not blaming the subject Astrology as unpredictable, predictably, most of the astrologers do it in haste, without considering the consequences. The rules, exceptions and inclusions are there to see, but just simply they stamp a person as manglik, if the Mars is placed in the houses of 1-2-4-7-8 & 12. This is where they fail and mismatch many horoscopes that fails in practical life.

A number of matches can be found and suitable alliances can be arranged, if a proper study of the horoscope is undertaken. For example, majority of the people who fall under Positive Blood group are having the planet Mars in their1-2-4-7-8 or 12th houses. However, there are exceptions given based on the placement of Mars occupying or in conjunction with some beneficial planets. If these valuable points are ignored, then really one misses his/ her suitable alliance and wrongfully confined and coupled with other non matching ones.

There are two systems to calculate one’s horoscope viz. Nirayana and Sayana; The Hindu and Indian system mostly follows the Nirayana System that is vastly experienced as the best suited one. Now let us study the effects of Chevvai known as Kuja or Mangal (Mars), as per the Nirayana system. The placement of Mars or Mangal known in Tamil as Kujan and its house-wise position effects are listed below. If the Lagna or Ascendant and the Moons sign is same for a person, then it is considered that the the Kuja dosham is doubled! It is most vital to see the Hindu System astrological calculations, which is considered as an effective one in finding the results. However, once should read the chart before coming to conclusion as Mangalik, thoroughly from the Moon sign & Ascendant. According to the Devakolam

Likewise, majority of the Non manglik horoscopes, which I have seen are of Negative Blood groups where Mars is placed in their Natal Chart at 3-5-6-9-10 or 11th house from Ascendant or Moon sign. Here again, many exceptions are given, someone having Mars in the 7th house can be of Positive Blood group and some one who has the Mars placed in the 3rd or 5th of their natal chart can be of Negative Blood group. But leaving the exceptions, majority of the cases are as aforesaid. Although it is the placement of the Mars that is now being considered here, let us discuss some most vital points too. If the birth time given is wrong, then the entire horoscope is wrong and meaningless. In some cases, the Longitude & Latitude of the birth place is wrongly given, then too, the natal chart erected goes wrong. In most cases, when the birth is taking place in the hospitals, the birth timing is not so seriously taken. The staff nurse found her time to note the entries only at a time that was suitable to her, hence she fixed the birth time! In such cases, can one fully depend only on the horoscopes’ matching? Is there any astrologer who takes the risk and blame for rejecting a perfect match, otherwise found to be manglik? Also, there is a risk of of classifying a person as manglik, if her/his birth takes place during a time, whence even the fraction of minute can change the natal chart housing positions. They are known as border cases or the junctions, when actually they may not be one!

and death of spouse. So an alliance with Mars in seventh house shall be avoided. If both are having the same proposition then sure you can consider this for a match The 8th house is for health, longevity and death and if the Mars present here then it is a potentially a danger to the native of the chart because it is considered the native as an accident prone and hence an alliance with short life span person be avoided. system now prevailing in Kerala and in some parts of Tamilnadu one should also check this Mangal’s effect from the Venus (Sukran) also. As per the Ancient Indian Astrology Kuja Dosham is considered an important aspect in marriage match making and compatibility. The very word scares and sends shivers along the spine of the alliance seekers. The moment they hear that Kuja Dosham exists in one chart, they drop it and say you find a match with similar Dosham. Chevvai or Kuja Dosham means the placement of MangalKuja (Mars) in houses 1, 2,4,7,8,12 from Lagna as well from Moon sign is bad and will cause death or separation of spouse and hence should be avoided for marriage alliance unless both the parties have the same extent of Chevvai / Kuja Dosham -Mangalik. The second house from Lagna defined wealth, eye sight, tongue, longevity, communication and transport and the presence of Mars - Kuja in this affects the smooth sail of life in these fields and thus may cause death or separation of spouse/ life partner and hence should be avoided. But there are exceptions for this, that is dealt in detail separately. The placement of Mars/ Kuja in 4th house from Lagna, the house that deals with the subjects of family, mother, and thus Mars, a harsh and fiery planet, causes danger to those fields governed by the 4th house and hence should be avoided for marriage alliance. If the Mars is placed in the 7th house from Lagna, the house of spouse and partners, should not have the presence of Mars Kuja and if present may cause disputes Siddhi Times USA 48

The 12th house is considered for Sayana, Moksha & Viraya ( expenditure) and if Mars present in this house. it will affect the longevity of the native hence an alliance with short span of life should be avoided. For the above reasons an alliance with a person having Mars placed in 2,4,7,8 & 12 houses of the horoscope are considered as people having Kuja Dosham or Mangalik and be avoided unless the other party is also having same value and extent of Kuja Dosham-Mangalik. Mars represents of a persons ego, self esteem, energy, will power, confidence and temperament. If mars dosham is there then it can make a native’s temper volatile. Such natives have troubles adjusting with spouse, friends & colleagues can at times become ruthless. However traditional Indian system of Hindu Astrology has given certain exemptions even if the Mars - Kuja placed in these houses with the following simple conditions. 1. If Lagna or Moon sign is Capricorn (Makaram - where Mars is exalted) OR in Cancer (where Mars is debilitated) or Leo (Simmam as the Sun, Lord of Leo’s Exalting House is Aries) Aries (Mesham) or Scorpio (Viruchikam) as the last two being Mar’s own house. The Kuja/Mangal dosham will not affect or apply nor will do any harm to them. 2. If Mars is in 12th house and the 12th house is Taurus or Libra then also the native will not have the applicability of Kuja Dosham. This exception is given because both Taurus and Libra are the direct 7th houses from Mar’s own house.

3. Like wise Mars in 4th house and if the 4th house falls in Aries and Scorpio then Kuja Dosham does not apply. 4. If the 7th house is in Capricorn or Cancer and the Mars placed in any of them, then also Kuja Dosham does not apply. 5. If Mars is positioned in the 8th house and the 8th house falls in Sagittarius or Pisces then Kuja Dosham does not apply. 6. If Mars is in conjunction with Jupiter (Guru) or Sun (Suryan) or Sani, then the Mangalic effect is nullified. 7. A general opinion is that if Mars is in 2nd or 12th in the male horoscope or Mars in the 4th & 7th houses in female horoscope or Mars in 8th in either of the horoscope, there is no escape from Kuja Dosham. This single placement is considered too harsh to have Mangalik or Chevvai or Kuja Dosham. 8. If Jupiter’s 5th, 7th or 9th house aspect is visible, then the native need not worry at all. If Mars is in conjunction with Jupiter and Moon, then it is considered more lucky as Guru Mangala Yogam and Gaja Kesari Yogam is combined together to weed off the ill effects! 9. Quite apart from the above, if Mangal or Mars is in 8th house in conjunction with Venus known as Sukra, then it is really more harmful. It is a must to find a suitable alliance only with the same combination of horoscope. Venus in the 7th house aspect of Mars from 7th or 8th house Drishti is still worse. It this happen to be the exalted house of Mars, i.e. Makara, then surely a same combination of alliance should be sought. It is just because, the physical and sexual demands will be more, or to say critically high, so the partner should match this criteria. If a person is born on a Tuesday, then not to worry as for them, they are surely not a Mangalik, since the day lord Mars Rules for the day, the Manglik effect is nullified to a maximum extent. If Mars is in conjunction or aspect by Jupiter, Sun or Saturn, then too the ill effects are nullified. According to Deva Kolam, even exchange of house with Mars by any other planet causes this Dosham nullified.

In terms of Astrology and the Indian system I have listed few vital aspects of the Kuja Dosham - Mangalik - Chevvai dosham. Now it is for the reader just to judge and value the the above, comparing it with Science and nature. The general and known house-wise effects of Mar’s placement is listed below: Mars dominated natives have a tremendous fire like energy and if this energy is not utilized in something constructive then the above related problem arises. This specific Mangal Dosham or Chevvai Dosham is generally affect the marital life. Ill effects of Mars/Mangal in the houses are as listed below; Let’s see the house-wise effects of Mars in a native’s chart: Mars in Lagna (Ascendant - 1st house) :

It will directly aspect the houses 7th house and also Its aspect (Drushti) is powerfully fall in the 8th house. 7th house being the house of life partner, Mars will create quarrels even on minor issues. Here it indicates physical violence and sexual abuse. Because of cruel behavior of such a native will be despised by society. Will not be able to gain assets. Mars in the 2nd house : The second house represents for Family, left eye sight, Money, cash flow, and tongue. If Mars is placed in the 2nd house, then the person is of curt, temperament, harsh, talkative and with rash in nature. Mars in 4th house: This house also represents happiness. This also affects the work area. Will frequently change profession and jobs. Will not be economically successful. No job security. Mars in 7th house: Here it causes great anger. The native possesses extra energy. If Mars placed equally in the 7th house of the couple, then the physical pleasure would surely make them as happiest couple. If otherwise, the person with Mars in the 7th house will never get any physical/ sexual satisfaction from the partner as it will be a mis-matched couple. Therefore it is most likely that the native has tendency to look from outside for his pleasures, thus putting a question mark on his/her character. It makes such a person with an

abnormal interests such as domination, fetish, bondage. It is most likely, that he/she will have some differences with family members. Mars In 8th House: Loss of paternal property and bad relationship with the elders of the family. A person with lethargic attitude and lazy. No help he/she will get from the co-borns. Will vile away the time and will expect the spouse to earn. Mars in 12th house: Sudden financial losses are indicated in this house. Lot of enemies and the enemies will always trouble such a native. Will have lot of mental problems and anxiety. Lack of co-operation from brothers, or No brother at all (Sahothra Nashtam). However, the alignments of other planets, the Drushti known as aspect and the conjunctive effects of rest of the planets are more influencing factors in judgment. So, please do not conclude that the above statement alone valid; it surely depends on of other factors too, which must be considered before branding any one as mangalik. No doubt, the ancient scholars did a splendid job by identifying many of the planetary influences on the Earth, but they never would have thought about our present day astrologers influences! Oh, how many perfect suitable marriage alliances are rejected, how many mismatched ones are coupled and how many divorces and death takes place just because of horoscope mismatched bondages!

terms, I did come across as many as 300 horoscopes, that were matched by astrologers as best suited, but actually the female partner suffers more, when the blood group is a mismatch. This too, most often occurs, when they are pregnant and also post birth problems are of more serious in nature. Father is positive - mother is of negative blood group. And if the child born with positive group, then the breast feeding is a complicated one as the child’s intake might make a lots of complication right from the first time. At times, even the child may have to be kept under medical observation for a longer period than the normal times. Like wise for the negative blood group father and positive blood group mother and if the child is of negative blood group, again same sort of problem occurs. So, be sure, you match the blood group, when you are branded as or in doubt about the Kuja Dosham, Manglik or Chevvai Dosham. This will certainly give you the scientific value, if you consult a medical practitioner too in this regard. OH, NO MORE MISMATCHES, please. Just check the other qualities of the prospective bride or groom, if only on the ground of manglik it is rejected, then better you go for Blood Group check and match it fine from there on. And this way, you can escape and be saved from the HIV infected alliances too! I am sure, the contents given above are an eye opener to many of the alliance seekers and I write this with good intentions. Surely, I am not blaming any Astrologers or their profession, but underline the need to go for soul searching. In practical Siddhi Times USA 49

All my life I have helped people and thanks to your grace and prayers I am hoping to get out of my current financial predicament and repay the financial debt I owe you and others. The emotional debt I will never be able to repay. Please convey my sincerest wishes and pranams to all of your priests. Although from an age-standpoint I am older but from a knowledge standpoint I am a lot younger and hence I cannot bless them, but my wishes are with them. It is truly impressive that you are doing such an impressive job of up-keep of our age old traditions and valuable treasures, something that very few people do these days. 20. Raghav K Iyer, Granite Falls MN When I went for shopping, I picked up the magazine Siddhitimes. I thought that it will be an ordinary magazine but after reading it completely I understood that it is a special one and not the usual magazines. From that day onwards, I became a regular reader of the magazine. Thanks a lot and pranams to Swamiji Sri Siddhar for bringing out such a wonderful magazine.

Deity adorning the cover page. The wonderful image of Lord Shiva drinking the worst poison adorns the cover page of this issue. Lord Shiva is a major Hindu god and one aspect of Trimurti. In the Shaiva tradition of Hinduism, Shiva is seen as the supreme God. Shiva is usually worshipped in the form of Shiva lingam. In images, he is generally represented as immersed in deep meditation or dancing the Tandava upon Maya, the demon of ignorance in his manifestation of Nataraja, the lord of the dance. According to the Hindu Philosophy, Brahma is the creator, Vishnu is the maintainer or preserver, and Shiva is the destroyer or transformer. Halahala is the name of a poison created from the sea when Devas (Gods) and Asuras (Demons) churned the sea in order to obtain Amrita, the nectar of immortality. Fourteen different ratnas (gems) were recovered in this exercise mostly retained by Gods after Demons tried to cheat them. Before these were recovered, halahala (“the most vicious and venomous poison”) was produced which started killing both sides. Both parties prayed Lord Shiva to help. Shiva being the supreme one chose to consume the poison. His wife Parvati, alarmed, stopped it in his throat with her hands thus earning him the name Vishakanta (the one who held poison in his throat). The poison made his throat turn blue. Hence he is also known as Neelakanta (the one with a blue throat). The Devas and Asuras represent the positives and negatives respectively of one’s personality. The participation of both the Devas and the Asuras signifies that when one is seeking bliss through spiritual practice, one has to integrate and harmonize both the positive and negative aspects and put both the energies to work for the common goal. By praying this image one can easily get the capacity to overcome all the negativities and make the negative as positive. Lord Shiva symbolizes the ascetic principle. His role in this story as the consumer of poison suggests that one can deal with the early problems of spiritual life by cultivating the qualities of Lord Shiva, namely, courage, initiative, willingness, discipline, simplicity, austerity, detachment, compassion, pure love and asceticism.

Tantra Sex Techniques by Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar a Living God

T

he name Tantra is made from the two words “tan” and “tra”. Tan is an abbreviation of the word tanoti and when translated from Sanskrit means to extend. Tra is an abbreviation of the word trayati and when translated from Sanskrit means liberation. So the word Tantra is a combination of these two words and means to extend your consciousness to be liberated. Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar’s thinking about Tantra is that he wonders why the western world mainly associates Tantra with sex only; this is the wrong thinking and understanding about Tantra. It is also widely known in the western world that people are associating different colours with Tantra such as white, red and black Tantra. Colour plays no part in Tantra, the origins of Tantra bears no colours. In the Sanskrit tantric scriptures there is much referencing to sexual energies in Tantra. This is because sexual energy is a big part of our consciousness and does not belong to any pornographic sick sexual mentality. In the tantric scriptures sexual energy is very divine and meant for yogis and not bhogis. Tantra is for creating energy of love to liberate.

Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar feels much regret towards people who are selling sex in the name of Tantra. Tantra is about working with the chakras and kundalini to achieve consciousness and this is what Swamiji Sri Selvam Siddhar teaches in his workshops and not about tantric sex. Tantra is about making love with the soul. Just like technology helps us to enhance and advance our lives in this modern day of living, similarly with Tantra we use “yantra & mantra” which are methods we use to liberate our consciousness much faster just like technology. Detachment is the key to liberating ourselves in Tantra. Detachment means when you love someone without having to have any reason to love them, because when you love someone with a reason you’re loving with attachments. You need to have compassion, feelings and emotion in your heart to enable you to love someone without having to have a reason to love them. By Swami Mukundananda

Nelson Rockefeller, in his time the richest person in the world, had a business decision to make. The Standard Oil Corporation required the transportation of goods by train, from Houston to Chicago. The insurance of the cargo would have cost $150. Rockefeller was in a dilemma whether to have the goods insured or not. He decided to take a risk and save the insurance expense. As luck would have it, a snow storm developed en-route. When he came to know of it, Rockefeller was besieged with anxiety. He lamented his decision, and decided to pressurize the insurance company into giving a last-minute insurance coverage. It was late evening; the insurance company had closed its office for the day. Rockefeller contacted the manager at his home, and forced him to open the office. By ten o’clock at night he was able to procure the insurance. The next morning, he received the news that the train had safely reached Chicago, and that there was no damage to the goods. Rockefeller was so upset at having spent $150 unnecessarily that he could not get to work until two o’clock in the afternoon. The stress of business took a heavy toll on Rockefeller’s health. Doctors warned him that his physical condition was critical, and that if he continued in the same manner, he would not survive. That shook him up. He changed his priorities, and developed an interest in other pursuits, besides earning money. He set up the Rockefeller Foundation

that did remarkable philanthropic work around the world. His change in attitude towards his work had a salubrious effect on his health and he continued to live for another twenty-five years after that. This account is from the nineteenth century. Today, in the twenty-first century, stress has become a widespread ailment. While we march forward boldly in harnessing nature with ever-new technologies, when it comes to the conquest of the mind, humankind seems to be standing still. As the world speeds up with cell-phones, emails, faxes, and the internet, an increasing number of people complain of stress. It is particularly common among high-achieving company executives, and is sometimes called the executive’s disease. Stress leads to a gamut of negative emotions like tension, fear, distress, apprehension, and anxiety. On the physical level, it causes health problems such as headaches, acidity, ulcers, high blood pressure, and heart diseases. How do we define stress? For an engineer, stress is the force in a beam or a machine part that tends to distort, crush, bend, or break it. We humans too are subjected to forces at home, at work, and in the world at large. The tension and anxiety in our emotional being, as we adjust to our continually changing environment, is what we call “stress”. As babies, we experienced stress when we were hungry, and we cried out to our mother. As grown-ups, we experience it when our boss hints that our performance has not been satisfactory and we will soon lose our job. The situations for stress can be innumerable.

Before we get into the techniques of stress management, we must bear in mind the distinction between the emotional stress within us and stressful situations outside. Stressful situations are not harmful in themselves; they are catalysts for progress. They inspire us to develop our abilities, as we attempt to face them. A world without stressful situations would be as insipid as a school class without exams. Good teachers never permit the latter, and God never permits the former. The Creator has designed the world in such a way that it continually throws up challenges and obstacles in our path. Ramakrishna Paramahansa said, “Life is the continuous unfoldment of a being under circumstances tending to press it downwards.” The Bhagavad Geeta conveys this message very vividly. Shri Krishna chooses the most dramatically stressful situation there can be in the world, an oncoming battle, to impart His teachings to Arjun. He thereby conveys the message to us all that even in the midst of a war one can remain serene and peaceful. No one can claim that his external situation is more stressful than Arjun’s. Hence, our goal is not to eliminate stressful situations. Instead, we wish to eliminate the emotional stress these situations generate within us. This stress varies from person from person. Someone may be perfectly calm and adjusted while administering a country; another person may be a nervous wreck while managing a single factory. Thus, the stress we experience is dependant on our own inner psyche, and not on the external situation.

How can we reduce or eliminate stress? Consultants on Stress Management offer a plethora of solutions for reducing stress. They talk about time management, situation management, meditation, yoga, tai chi, etc., as solutions to stress. While these are wonderful activities in their own right, as solutions to the problem of stress, they all have one shortcoming. They deal with the symptoms of stress without tackling the cause. This is like suppressing fever, without curing the typhoid within. If we wish to get rid of stress, we must get rid of the cause. The first step in Stress Management is thus to try to understand the cause for stress. To explain it simply, stress develops when we are attached to a particular outcome, and things do not turn out the way we desire. If a businessperson decides to make profits, but the business runs in a loss, stress results. If a sales representative wishes to meet a particular sales target, but fails to do so, stress results. The reason for stress is thus our own attachment to a particular outcome, and our inability to adjust to any other outcome.

duty.

Once we understand the cause, the remedy for stress is simple – give up attachment to the outcome of your work. Learn to work without attachment to the results. The Bhagavad Geeta instructs:

Shri Krishna does not describe a yogi as one who can perform a spinal twist, or one who can stop breathing for a few minutes, or one who can stand on one’s head in shirshasana. He says, “A yogi is one who can work in even the most agitating conditions, without any attachment to the results of his actions.”

“You have the right to work, but not to the outcome.” Relish your work, but offer the fruit of your efforts to God. The outcome of our work is not in our hands in any case. It depends upon several factors such as circumstances, assistance from others, efforts of competitors, sheer luck, coincidence, will of God, and so on. Thus, wisdom demands that while working, we put in our best efforts, but when the results come, we be content. To work without attachment to results is not a new activity that we have never heard of. There are innumerable examples of it in the world. A nurse in a hospital tends to patients with great care and attention. If a patient dies, she does not lament; if a patient recuperates, she does not celebrate. She merely discharges her duty. But if one of the patients happens to be her close relative, she experiences intense anxiety while tending to him or her. Here, she is attached, while with the rest of the patients she is only doing her duty. A cashier in a bank receives and disburses millions of dollars. In doing so, he experiences neither anxiety nor jubilation, although he works with great care and diligence. But if he collects his salary and accidentally drops $100 from it on the way home, when he discovers his mistake, he is terribly upset. Here, he is attached, while in the bank he merely does his

The above examples illustrate how we perform a number of works in the world without attachment. Now, if we can learn to do this always and in all our situations, we will have a permanent solution to stress. The Bhagavad Geeta states that one who gives up attachment finds perfect peace. But if we give up attachment to results, will it not decrease our performance at work? Definitely not. In fact, when we become free from negative emotions like tension, anxiety, apprehension, and nervousness, in most situations our effectiveness will increase. For example, competent surgeons conduct hundreds of operations on others, but they are never willing to operate on their own children. They know that attachment makes them prone to error. All business people know that if they become anxious in conducting their business, they are liable to make mistakes. Thus if we can become detached from our work, we become even more effective. Accordingly, the Bhagavad Geeta states:

Let us now carry the argument one step back. If attachment is the root cause of stress, how can we get rid of attachment? The Bhagavad Geeta gives a simple answer. It tells us, not give up attachment, rather, to transfer that attachment to God. When we develop devotion or attachment to God, it will result in two benefits: Firstly, we will become free from the stress that results from attachment to the world. Secondly, our work will become an offering to God. This spirit of working in devotion is called “Karmyog” in the Bhagavad Geeta. “Karmyog” literally means union with God by offering the fruits of our works to Him.

perceive the presence of God, who always resides within our hearts. We must now add this perception to our consciousness. At first, at intervals of an hour we must stop our work for a moment, and think, “Shri Krishna is standing before me. He is watching me. He is my witness and my protector.” Now, when we realize that God is the witness of all our activities, we will automatically be prevented from sin. Simultaneously, we will be reassured and strengthened by the feeling that the Supreme Lord is always with us as our protector and benefactor. Then, we must practice the same at intervals of half-an-hour. In this way, we have to keep reducing the time interval until we reach the state where we constantly perceive the presence of God with us. With the mind fixed on God while working, we will feel the constant flow of spiritual energy. Our work and sadhana will go on simultaneously. The day we can live constantly in the presence of God, we will have accomplished success in karmyog. It goes without saying that such a karmyogi becomes totally free from stress. Swami Mukundananda is a senior most disciple of Jagadguru Shree Kripalu Ji Maharaj from Vrindavan, India. Swamiji received B.Tech and MBA degrees from two world renowned colleges in India - Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) and Indian Institute of Management (IIM) respectively. However, the call of God was so strong that a short while after landing a top corporate job, he renounced his professional career to take sanyas in the quest for God realization. Swamiji will be touring major metropolitan cities giving lectures and speeches in the summer of 2009. New Jersey will be his first tour stop at Gandhi Centre & Hindu Temple in Wayne NJ the week of May 30th to June 5th. You may visit www.jkyog. org for more tour details. Shri Krishna tells Arjun, “Whatever you do, whatever you eat, whatever sacrifices you perform, whatever you give away in charity, and whatever austerities you perform, do it as an offering unto Me.” How can we reach this state of union with God while working? The Supreme Spiritual Master of this Age, Jagadguru Shri Kripaluji Maharaj teaches a wonderful technique for the practice of karmyog. He explains that throughout our waking state we constantly perceive ourselves. “I am eating. I am walking. I am thinking. I am speaking, etc.” However, we fail to
