Sidney Stella ENGL 205 Kevin MacPherson Dina Del Bucchia: A Bibliography For my bibliography, I decided to explore the existence that is Dina Del Bucchia. Mainly because, as noted on her website, she is super professional and wears dresses. Basically, it was a match made in heaven. She is a native to British Columbia, currently residing in Vancouver, and co-hosts a podcast called Can’t Lit. So, she’s clearly super legit. She holds an MFA in creative writing from the University of British Columbia where she currently teaches writing for comedic forms. She also performs at comedy events around Vancouver– so cool! As if I didn’t like her enough already. She is the author of three collections of poetry and her short story landed her as a finalist for the Writers’ Trust RBC Bronwen Wallace Award. Her most recent work consists of a collection of short stories that was published in September of 2017. Her work has appeared in literary works across Canada and she is currently the artistic director of the Real Vancouver Writers’ Series. She has also guest edited the Humour series of Poetry Is Dead Magazine. Although she has many accomplishments to her name, my favourite thing, thus far, that I have learned about Dina, is that she simultaneously updates three separate Tumblr. accounts. As someone who has a hard-enough time updating one, I can’t imagine updating three. Oh yeah, she also recommends self-medicating with cheese, television, and candy. So, she’s clearly a genius. Dina’s preferred genre of writing is comedy. Her debut story collection Don’t Tell Me What to Do, is a collection of poems that is rich with irony and imagery, capturing the quirky instances of everyday life. Her next body of work was another collection of poetry titled Rom Com. This body of work also exudes comedic excellence. The book discusses romantic comedy
in a pop-culture, sassy, self-aware way. Her next collection of poems, Blind Items, also falls into the category of comedy– this time making the subjects of her poems well-known celebrities with a personal twist on her take of each individual. Her first collection of poetry, Coping with Emotions and Otters, is, as you guessed, comedic in every sense. Her debut collection has been deemed sassy, witty, sly, and hilarious. If that doesn’t establish her as a comedic writer, then I don’t know what will. A recurring theme throughout her work is the modern every day; emotions, self-awareness, budding questions, indulgences in pop culture. Dina publically addresses what it means to be a “cool, but sad” individual in this crazy thing we call life.
