The 1992 election contained a democratic domination in the congress and a republican president. The 1992 election to choose if George H.W Bush would stay another term or bill clinton would defeat him.. Bill Clinton's campaign was announced in 1991 october 3rd in little rock Arkansa. He campaigned was shaky but still defeating all his competition despite having charges with avoiding the vietnam war draft. As well as admitting to smoking pot on multiple occasion which didn't concern his voters. Even with his shaky campaigned he blew past the competition beating all of his democratic runners. Going into George H.W Bush’s he was a very qualified candidate with many years in domestic and foreign affairs. As well as 8 years of being a Vice president which made him a very qualified candidate. Even though he had these experiences a did do some good things for the us with foreign affairs voters said he was not able to deal with domestic affairs causing voters to go the other way electing bill clinton as the 42nd president of the US. Bill Clinton’s presidency took care of domestic affairs which satisfied many voters. He grew the home ownership rate crime rates went down and brought the lowest inflation in 30 years. Bill half way through his presidency brought a new approach were he wanted said “the era of big government is over”. He upgraded education, restricted handgun sales and protect the jobs of parents taking care of sick children. He followed this model for the rest of his presidency which led him to get re elected in 1997.

Bill Clinton’s Scandal By: Gaby Alonso

The Clinton–Lewinsky scandal was an American political sex scandal that involved 49 year old President Bill Clinton and 22 year old White House intern Monica Lewinsky. The sexual relationship took place between 1995 and 1997 and came to light in 1998. Clinton ended a televised speech in January 1998 with the statement that he "did not have sexual relations with that woman, Miss Lewinsky". Further investigation led to charges of perjury and to the impeachment of President Clinton in 1998 by the U.S. House of Representatives. He was subsequently acquitted on all impeachment charges of perjury and obstruction of justice in a 21 day Senate trial. Clinton was held in civil contempt of court by Judge Susan Webber Wright for giving misleading testimony in the Paula Jones case regarding Lewinsky and was also fined $90,000 by Wright. His license to practice law was suspended in Arkansas for five years. He was disbarred from presenting cases in front of the United States Supreme Court. Lewinsky was a graduate of Lewis & Clark College. She was hired during Clinton's first term in 1995 as an intern at the White House and was later an employee of the White House Office of Legislative Affairs. Some believe that Clinton began a personal relationship with her while she worked at the White House, the details of which she later confided to Linda Tripp, her Defense Department co-worker who secretly recorded their telephone conversations. In January 1998, Tripp discovered that Lewinsky had sworn an affidavit in the Paula Jones case, denying a relationship with Clinton. She delivered tapes to Kenneth Starr, the Independent Counsel who was investigating Clinton on other matters, including the Whitewater scandal, the White House FBI files controversy, and the White House travel office controversy. During the grand jury testimony, Clinton's responses were carefully worded, and he argued, "It depends on what the meaning of the word 'is' is,"] with regard to the truthfulness of his statement that "there is not a sexual relationship, an improper sexual relationship or any other kind of improper relationship.” The wide reporting of the scandal led to criticism of the press for over-coverage.The scandal is sometimes referred to as "Monicagate","Lewinskygate","Tailgate", "Sexgate", and "Zippergate",following the "gate" construction that has been used since the Watergate scandal.

The Giver Book Review

By: Gaby Alonso

The Giver by Lois Lowry is a tale of an orderly society which is free of pain and chaos caused by humans but is also devoid of emotions and feelings. Therefore, there is no place for love, joy, guilt or remorse or any other human emotion in this society. Freedom of choice and individuality are unknown concepts. ONly two people know and understand feelings, The Giver and 12 year old buy Jonas. The two main characters are Jonas, a young boy whose apprenticed to The Giver and The Giver himself, a kind old man who gives emotions and feelings to jonas.the Giver is the “human memory bank” the only person who carries memories fall forgotten human emotions within himself his job is to gi ee them all to Jonas who is successor. I liked the book very much because it made me think about how important it is to have freedom and choices not have your life set out for you in this book, birth mothers give birth to children but they do not nurture them or bring them up as their own. The babies are taken away from the birthmothers as soon as they are born, and are brought up by a different family, never again to be seen by the Birth Mother. They give birth three times and are then dismissed to work labourers for the rest of their lives,. It is not just the Birth Mothers whose lives are unfair. Every family has one son and daughter and all families eat the same food which is cooked in a central location and delivered to them every evening. In their pursuit for sameness and absolute equality, thee community has lost the ability to feel any emotion. Everyone's life is predetermined and the lives are more robot than human. The crisis comes when Jonas experiences feelings for the first time , thee first tingle of snowflakes, the first time he sees color, the first time he sees a family celebrate Christmas, the first time he feels love. Overall, this is a great book. It shows how important it is for us as humans to “feel”. Humans do cause wars and chaos but the books gives an idea of a society where no one “feels anything” and how that can only make us like robots, it is not the right solution to the problems of chaos and destruction powerful read for me. I will give it 4.5 out of 5.

Music influenced fashion in that completely transformed the mainstream of dressing. Musicians such as Kurt Cobain associated with dirt, filth and thrift shop clothing influenced the adolescents of the time to dress similarly. It eventually made its way to Marc Jacobs, and Vogue. In the 1990 it made it a lot easier to speak with people, as phones, and communication devices would allow people two for an affordable. Americans got hooked with the new technology. Later the development of communication devices created an opportunity for the business company apple to start creating their own phone. As time went on, a new trend occurred, Americans started to buy convertible cars, as they were a good 4 seater, with an affordable price. The fast speed made it much better, as you would be able to feel the breeze and the top of the car unfolded, the cold wind, and the soothing sound of the outside. that is how convertibles became a trend The reality show genre became widely popular in the 1990s and its popularity still continues to this day. MTV created the first popular reality show with The Real World. Other networks followed suit with CBS’s widely popular Survivor, which helped to pave the way for the plethora of reality shows on television today. This is the time when the Beatles started kicking in, this means that there were more people listening to music, and people who are becoming hippies to be the exact opposite what the government is telling the people to do. Gangsta Rap was also one of the big hits, meaning it also happen a huge impact on how Americans dress up, talked, and acter

By: Gaby Alonso The 90’s was an amazing decade with some weird toys every boy and girl wanted for either their birthday or holiday. Some of those toys were, Furby, Furbies were an electronic robot toy. It rose to fame immediately grabbing headlines in 1998 when mothers almost killed each other to get them for their kids. Furby sold 1.8 million units in 1998, and 14 million units in 1999. But it left almost as quickly as it came. Pogs Who would believe that a piece of cardboard similar to the ones found on the base of a smarty tube or a party popper would prove to be a big toy of the nineties. Pogs was that toy The word “pog” refers to the discs used to play the game. The name originates from POG, a brand of juice made from passion fruit, orange and guava; the use of the POG bottle caps to play the game pre-dated the game’s commercialization. The game of pogs possibly originated in Hawaii in the 1920s. Pogs returned to popularity when the World POG Federation and the Canada Games Company reintroduced them to the public in the 1990s. The pog fad soared in the 1990s before rapidly fading out. Pokemon, Pokémon is a media franchise published and owned by the video game company Nintendo and created by Satoshi Tajiri in 1996. Originally released as a pair of interlinkable Game Boy role-playing video games, Pokémon has since become the second most successful and lucrative video game-based media franchise in the world, behind only Nintendo’s own Mario series. One amazing store all 90’s people will know is blockbuster. A store where you could rent/ buy movies, T.V shows, games and Dvd’s. It was a main part of the 90’s culture. Going on the weekends with your parents and picking up a movie to watch was probably the best part of your week. Sadly, blockbuster has shut down everywhere except for one store in Bend, Oregon. Saturday morning cartoons with sugary cereal and cozy pajamas were the best. Just a few cartoons we fondly remember are Rugrats, Hey Arnold!, CatDog, Ed, Edd 'n Eddy, Dexter's Laboratory, Dragon Ball Z, The Powerpuff Girls, Sailor Moon, Scooby-Doo, Looney Tunes, and so, so many more! Cartons were all the rage in the 90’s. Having cool and different cartoons for kids to watch influenced them and taught them morals. Kids just didn't watch cartoons, they also read Where's Waldo books. Looking through a crowd of people just to find one person is a meticulous thing. Kids spent hours searching for Waldo on each page of the book.

Fashion By: Gaby Alonso

The 90’s was a decade with some amazing fashion. It’s weird to see how they comeback now in 2019. Some popular fashion trends were... Crop Tops, exposing your midriff was a hot trend in the 90’s women’s fashion. Major celebrities like Madonna and Gwen Stefani were known for wearing crop tops at red carpet events. Grunge Style, this style was fueled by the rebels of 90’s rock like Nirvana and Pearl Jam. Essential items to put together a grunge look included band t-shirts, grungy flannel, acid wash or ripped jeans, and anything with studs. Doc.Martens, these boots were another staple in a grunge wardrobe in the 90’s. As the grunge scene became more mainstream, the boots became more popular and widely worn, especially at music festivals. Platform Shoes, another footwear trend of the 90’s was the platform shoe. A blocky 4 inch platform was added to just about any type of shoe from heels to sneakers from sandals to boots. Colorful Prints, neon and brightly colored prints were a fun part of the 90’s fashion. Think back to the crazy fashion from The fresh Prince of Bel-Air worn by Will Smith. From neon snapbacks to zig-zag printed button-ups,Will would wear the boldest clothes. It wasn't a faux pas to mix prints either.

Animal Print and Faux Fur, leopard print and faux fur were wild ways to express yourself through fashion in the 90’s. Mel B.also known as Scary Spice from the Spice Girls, was known for her iconic animal print looks. You would also see a lot of faux fur jackets layered over satin dresses on a variety of celebrities at red carpet events. Velvet was a popular fabric in the 90’s. Crushed or smooth velvet gave your outfit a vintage feel. You could have anything velvet: pants, headbands, skirts, tops and more. Velvet was classy, glamorous, and cool. Adding the unique fabric was an easy way to dress up an outfit, and popular for wearing out to parties and dance clubs. Preppy Sets, just look to the ladies of the 1995 movie Clueless for guidance on this trend. Matching you tops to you bottom was very important. Monochromatic and dichromatic looks were the way to go. Tartan ruffle skirts that came with a matching tie or jacket were the coolest. It also helped if you could use your parent’s credit card like the character Cher to buy designer brands. Windbreakers, you were ready for any weather with color- block windbreakers. These were trendy for both guys and girls, You could get them in an endless variety of colors and patterns. Don't forget to make sure the brand logo is printed somewhere big and visible. Denim was a huge part of the 90’s outfits, especially flare and bell bottom jeans. No one would be caught dead in the ankle hugging skinny jeans that we prefer today. Designers like Tommy Hilfiger lead the way in denim fashion, with celebrities like Britney Spears and Justin Timberlake sporting head to toe denim looks award shows.

Food By: Sienna Alonso

In the 1990’s food changed for the better. The beloved Food Network launched in 1993 which helped americans learn and cook amazing food. Some of the most delicious home cooked food from the 90’s were Cesar Salads, Veggie Burgers, and molten lava cakes just to name a few. Besides the delicious home cooked meals there were also iconic, and unhealthy, snack foods as well. These snack foods consisted of Lunchables, Dunkaroos, and Chef Boyardee. Although these foods are not considered healthy, they were a big hit in the 90’s.Many new products that were introduced in the 90’s included Campbells Cheddar and Broccoli soup, Stouffer's homestyle entrees, and Lays Baked Potato Chips. Although weight loss diets didn’t start in the 90’s, people became obsessed with it. In the 90’s, the FDA declared that all containers of food must exhibit the amount of calories, fat, and fiber intakes per serving. In 1996, more than six million Americans were taking dieting pills such as fenfluramine, the appetite suppressant, and amphetamine phentermine, a weight loss prescription drug. These products were removed from the market because fenfluramine was said to cause fatal heart disease. Celebrity chefs started to become famous because of the start of the Food Network. Some famous shows were Everyday Italian with Giada De Laurentiis, The Barefoot Contessa, and Ina Garten. While Alton Brown was explaining scientific food facts, Bobby Flay was traveling to America for Clambakes and a soup called Burgoo, and Mario Batali ate his way through Italy. Wolfgang Puck opened a restaurant called Spago in West Hollywood, California. Puck reimagined pizza by adding smoked salmon, goat cheese, and chili oil. Film and Theater By Gaby Alonso The 90’s were full of amazing t.v shows for all ages here are some of the most popular shows. Friends, Rachel, Ross, Chandler,Monica, Joey and Phoebe. How many series can say that all of their main characters are instantly recognizable by their first names alone. Few series have had the long lasting impact that Friends has had. Its second life as a result of platforms like Netflix has resulted in millions of new fans the world over, and its popularity doesn't seem to be slowing down any time soon. Frasiers, It’s not often that a spin off series is better than the series that preceded it, but it's not hard atall to make the case that the 1993-2004 series Frasier's surpassed its predecessor, Cheers, in every way. Chronicling the life of unlucky in love and loveable conceited radiotherapist Dr. Frasier Crane, the series takes a character who was already enjoyable among one group of characters and finds an even better one for him to coexist with. Seinfeld, for a series often known as “the show about nothing”Seinfeld sure did have plenty to sayin its long run. Airing from 1989-1998 Seinfeld followed the everyday lives of a foursome of misanthropic friends. Stand up comedian Jerry Seinfeld, loveable and loathsome loser George Costanza, free willed and feisty Elaine Benes, and perennially unemployed Cosmo Kramer. The

Fresh Prince of Bel-Air, now this is a story all about how, the sitcom genre got flipped, turned upside down.

The 1990’s found the form of the sitcom finally 18 embracing the young African American voices that had long been ignored. One of the series to do the most successfully was the 1990-1996 NBC series The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. Boy Meets World, coming of age stories became a huge thing of sitcoms around the beginning of the 90’s and few of them were as well made as Boy Meets World. Running from 1993 to 2000, the series followed the loveable eeveryboy and total nerd Cory Matthews as he navigates the confusing world of adolescence and young adulthood. X-Files, a series that follows detectives as they solve crime have almost always been a guaranteed hit. But it was a real change of pace when, in 1993, the Fox series The X-Files premiered. Following FBI Special Agent Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, the series chronicles the cases of the really weird and bizzare and downright supernatural that these federal agents secretly deal with. It’s hard to imagine a television landscape these days without plenty of teen- focused series stirring up plenty of drama. But long before there was the CW,there was Beverly Hills, 90210. Airing for ten years from 1990-2000 on Fox, the series was ostensibly a prime soap opera, but it was one of the first of such series to be marketed specifically for teens.

Domestic Affairs By: Julio Degreas

On November 29, 1990, in an unprecedented step, the UN Security Council authorized the use after January 15, 1991, of "all necessary means" to achieve the withdrawal of Iraqi forces from the territory of Kuwait. On January 12 the Congress of the US authorized President Bush to use American armed forces to implement that resolution. the foreign relations of Iraq were influenced by a number of controversial decisions by the Saddam Hussein administration. Hussein had good relations with the Soviet Union and a number of western countries such as France and Germany, who provided him with advanced weapons systems. He also developed a tenuous relation with the United States, who supported him during the Iran–Iraq War. However, the Invasion of Kuwait that triggered the Gulf War brutally changed Iraq's relations with the Arab World and the West. Egypt, Saudi Arabia, Syria and others were among the countries that supported Kuwait in the UN coalition. After the Hussein administration was toppled by the 2003 invasion of Iraq, the governments that succeeded it have now tried to establish relations with various nations. Because of the primary roles taken by the United States and Britain in deposing Saddam Hussein and establishing interim governments to replace his regime, Iraq's relationships with those countries, particularly the United States, are expected to remain paramount for the foreseeable future. Government and nongovernmental aid from the United States will continue as a crucial support in reconstruction. Iraq's main foreign policy issue was the war with Iran. This war had begun in September 1980, when Saddam Hussein sent Iraqi forces across the Shatt al Arab into southwestern Iran. Although the reasons for Saddam Husayn's decision to invade Iran were complicated, the leaders of the Baath Party had long resented Iranian hegemony in the Persian Gulf region and had especially resented the perceived Iranian interference in Iraq's internal affairs both before and after the 1979 Islamic Revolution. Their objectives were to halt any potential foreign assistance to the Shias and to the Kurdish opponents of the regime and to end Iranian domination of the area. The Baathists believed a weakened Iran would be incapable of posing a security threat and could not undermine Iraq's efforts to exercise the regional influence that had been blocked by non-Arab Iran since the mid-1960s. By early 1982, the Iraqi occupation forces were on the defensive and were being forced to retreat from some of their forward lines. In June 1982, Saddam Hussein ordered most of the Iraqi units to withdraw from Iranian territory; after that time, the Ba'athist government tried to obtain a cease-fire based on a return of all armed personnel to the international borders that prevailed as of 21 September 1979.

Domestic Affairs (continued) It is finally the end of the cold war, US and Russia can stop pointing missiles at each other, and finally be living in peace. Later in 1998 the US bombs Iraq, following a weapon inspector agreement by the UN, on december 17 in the middle of Clinton’s impeachment trials. President Clinton orders American and British airstrike on Iraq. just a little after, the US bombs Al-Shifa plant in Sudan, and over 20,000 die, many lost their houses, and many others left in famine. US military bomb a pharmaceutical plant in sudan it produced more than 50% Sudan medicine, but the main cause of 20,000 deaths are the children, because the children did not get the medicine they needed for their curable diseases the US government said it was “counter terrorism” and later said it was an “accident” However the US did not pay for the damage inflicted in the country’s economy, and the people. In 1991 the US increased its security due to the fall of communism. This assembly took up the question of security, calling for greater multilateralism in foreign policy and stronger regional security agreements. Right after that, in 1992 during the Cold War, american national security seemed clearly defined to protect against the overarching threat of the Soviet Union and Communism expansion. But with the demise of Communism, America must reconsider its role in the world as dramatically as it did after victory in World War II. During the same time period after the collapse of the Soviet system, the United States was presented with the opportunity of a political and military shift in the heartland of Eurasia. This meeting and report sought to discuss the potential of filling that void the potential filling that void the Soviet states that left behind, while taking into account the economic collapse and ethnic tension that threatened the stability of the region. Participants in this Assembly focused on the concepts of partnership and leadership with a multilateral outlook.

The 1990’s, music, was like no other decade. With new styles like grunge rock, rap, and alternative rock. The band who created grunge rock was Nirvana, their most famous song was Smells Like Teen Spirit. Although with a successful start to their career, the lead singer of Nirvana, Kurt Cobain, committed suicide. Because of the rise of Nirvana other bands formed in their footsteps. A few bands were Radiohead, Alice in Chains, and Stone Temple Pilots. Besides Grunge Rock, another music style that became famous in the 90’s was rap. Hip-Hop is a type of music that the singer speaks very fast. Some famous rappers or groups where Coolio, Cypress Hill, and Will Smith. The feud between Gangster-rap rivals Ice Cube and Eazy E led to an even bigger feud called the East-Coast West-Coast Feud. During the feud many artist rose to fame. The rappers consisted of Warren G, Nate Dogg, Puffy Daddy, Jay Z, Nas, Wu-Tang Clan, Busta Rhymes, Snoop Dogg and Eminem. Many colleges became popular with basketball like Duke University, with the amazing Coach Mike Krzyzewski and the jump that defied gravity with Christian Laettner. Later, Shaquille O’neal terrorized backboards, for LSU, then he took his talents to the Orlando Magic. Magic Johnson, who played for the NBA team the Los Angeles Lakers, shocked everyone when he announced his retirement because he was diagnosed with HIV. In the 90’s the best player of all time started his career. If you haven’t heard of him yet, his name is Michael Jordan. The other teams knew it would be different once Jordan retired, in 1993 and in 1999, after he joined the NBA in 1995. The Chicago Bulls, because of Jordan, was the dominant team of the 90’s.

Football in the 1990’s was crazy. The NFC “claimed” they owned the AFC. The teams that won the superbowl were the Giants, the Cowboys, the 49ers, the Redskins, Bills, and the Packers. The all-time best running back was Barry Sanders, he played for the Detroit Lions. In college terms, the schools that had the best college programs were Nebraska college and the University of Miami. There were many off-field criminals, that range from drug offensive to murder. One of the most recognisable football players that went to jail was OJ Simpson. He was arrested for the murder of his wife, Nicole Brown Simpson, and a friend, Ronald Goldman, in 1997. Another felon was Rae Carruth. Carruth was a wide receiver for the Carolina Panthers. He went on trial for murdering his pregnant girlfriend in 1999.

Education

25

By: Julio Degreas

During the 1990s the education method hasn’t changed, meaning that students, sit down on a chair, and there is a teacher teaching students different subjects, the teachers to this day still use some kind of white board depending on the school. This method stayed like this because in the 1980s the US tried teaching different methods but failed, so they decided to stick with the old and fashioned way. During the 1990s thought, there was some kind of different teaching method attempted, such as teachers having a larger role in school management functions and also have greater autonomy and flexibility in choosing instructional methods and materials. With more input into school management, teachers would also have a forum in which to contribute to using the learning environment, school resources, and time at school to improve student learning. Student learning and achievement was another area of focus for restructuring efforts. With changes in teacher’s roles and responsibilities in the learning environment, proponents of restructuring believed students would have increased opportunities to learn and could learn at higher, more rigorous levels. Restructuring was to make schools more inviting places that would be more aware of and responsive to the needs of students and their families. In the 1990s there were different job applications instead of following their parents’ footsteps Mining decreased 30% in 10 years and so did manufacturing for 10% decrease, but more people wanted to be political and government increased by 15%, such things also increased such as wholesale trade, retail trade, finance, insurance, and real estate. Transportation and public utilities also increased as the population became more advanced and more cars, trains needed to be built, construction and services also increased, as more money came in the US, more housing needed to be build to keep the money flowing.
