The masthead is a bold and eye-catching text which would straight away tell the audience that this magazine is a horror. Additionally, the text is white which stands out against the dark background. The outline of the text is in red which reinforces the ‘horror’ theme as it connotes blood and danger. Alongside this, the font looks as though its sharp and the ‘F’ and ‘A’ replicate vampire fangs which again fits with the theme as vampires are consider as a big part of horror. This also links in with the fact the magazine has the word ‘fang’, signifying horror.

The selling line above the masthead is in bright yellow which links to the puff. This suggests it is there to attract the customer’s attention. As well as this, it shows it is a global magazine looking at movies from all parts of the world; appealing to a larger audience.

The main image on this magazine is very dark and gloomy with mostly using grey and black. However, you can just make out a face; this makes it scarier and heavily emphasises the genre of the magazine. Additionally, it gives some clues as to what the movie is about because it is a ‘ghostly’ figure. The use of the candlelight also reinforces typical horror conventions used in movies and adds a bit of colour to the image which would grab the reader’s attention.

The cover lines link in with the masthead as the colours alternate red and white. The font is all in uppercase which would make it easier to read; additionally, the letters are very close together but this is probably so it frames the main image nicely. Puffs are occasionally used on magazines; these are often to grab the reader’s attention. The crimson red background of the puff could symbolise blood as it looks like it is ‘splattered’ and would relate to the horror theme. The use of the bold yellow font makes the text standout even more and would easily been seen and read. The ‘fold out poster’ would attract many horror or film fans and they would be more inclined to purchase the magazine.

The barcode is a typical convention seen on most magazines. This usually includes the price and date but will be in small print so it doesn’t distract the reader from the main selling points of the magazine.

The bottom of the page features a photostrip showing images of films that are also in the magazine. Using images as well as cover lines on the main cover makes it more interesting and appealing to the audience; thus inclining them to purchase it.

The main cover line is in bold white text which stands out against the dark background. Additionally, two of the letters within the cover line are in red which relates to the rest of the cover. This also makes the cover line stand out more and links to the actual movies’ title; this makes it recognisable to the audience which is more likely going to attract their attention.
