INTRODUCTION
A word from the Director Dear guests and visitors, Our valley is a treasure trove of leisure activities for you to enjoy! You will find in this booklet all of the necessary information you need for a successful holiday. In addition, summer hiking booklets and brochures of all kinds are available at all four Anniviers tourist offices in Chandolin, St-Luc, Grimentz, and Zinal. Our team members in these locations are pleased to respond to your enquiries seven days a week.
If you spend one night with a commercial accommodation provider or two nights with a private accommodation provider, you are entitled to an Anniviers Liberté Freedom Pass Card which offers access to many activities and sites of interest. (Note : the pass requires payment of a nominal tourist tax). Use of the transportation infrastructure is included in the Freedom Pass benefits and will enable you to fully appreciate the region’s breathtaking natural beauty.
Anniviers has preserved its unique and deep-rooted cultural heritage which you will learn more about on historical tours of the area’s 19 villages and hamlets. The century old raccards-traditional granaries- burnished by the sun, are a testimony to the fascinating and hazardous past shaped by people so poor that they had to travel several times a year between the Rhone plain and the alpine meadows in order to subsist. Hence the name “Anniviers,” which means “all year long on the road.”

Each historical circuit, recalling the lives of the inhabitants of each village, exposes you to different aspects of the history of Anniviers, enabling you to marvel at the region’s architecture, local stories and traditions.

UTILISATION SOUMISE AUX CONDITIONS GÉNÉRALES
Terms From 31 May to 2 November 2014, anyone staying in the Val d’Anniviers* who has paid their tourist tax will be given a pass that provides free access to a range of transport and leisure facilities, as well as entrance to various attractions and places of interest. The pass is obtained : - after one night spent with a commercial accommodation provider (in the area of the Anniviers municipality) - after two nights spent with a private accommodation provider (in the area of the Anniviers municipality) or as someone's guest. N.B. : Journeys to and from Sierre are not included in the benefits of the “Anniviers Liberté” pass. The full journey from the departure point to the destination should be paid for. The “Anniviers Liberté“ pass card is personal and non-transferable.
General Conditions The Freedom pass cannot be combined with other offers and is dependent on dates and opening hours, as well as the general conditions defined by participating partners. Special conditions for parties of 10 or more. Please inquire at the Anniviers Tourist Offices or ask your host. Conditions subject to change. * Payment of tourist tax with the name of the rented apartment / or chalet and the full name of the leaser required under the terms of the Tourism Act of February 9, 1996. Not valid for those exempt from paying the tourist tax

Tourist Tax Rates The amount of residence tax (for the entire territory of the Commune d’Anniviers, regardless of the type of housing, in the area of the Anniviers municipality) is : CHF 2.50 / adults (over 16) CHF 1.25 / children (6-16 years of age) Exemption for children under 6
Services included in the “Anniviers Liberté Pass“ The Freedom Pass covers a wide range activities and services listed in this booklet. For people who do not hold a Freedom Pass card, the rates quoted elsewhere in this brochure apply.

INTRODUCTION
Chandolin is popular. Without a doubt... Is it because of its altitude that allows to almost touch the sky, and making it one of the highest inhabited villages in Europe ? Is it because of its location on the edge of the pines and larches bathed in the evening by the last rays of the sun when it bows out on the horizon ? Or for that “ je ne sais quoi ” that makes Chandolin the muse of poets, the stop for travellers and a hideaway for illustrious guests ?
Speaking of this little village perched on the mountain, the small town she loved so much, Corinna Bille, wrote in her novel “ Chandolin entre deux abîmes ” ... ... “ Two thousand meters. A village clings to the slope, a little grass, a source of water for the thirsty, a forest to stop the avalanche. That’s it. The land of nothing, of emptiness. Then we find (in contrast to the easy countries where dust waits under the palm trees), that this is a land of great wealth. Here it is impossible to stop, here equilibrium is abolished, and even the sweetness is violent. To live we must walk, climb, descend and ascend. But the air is present, air that you can touch, that you see, that has form, colour and odour, that gives a new rhythm to our blood, and gives our soul a new intensity. There is more than the earth itself, for here the earth ends. ”

INTRODUCTION
Situated at the end of the Val d’Anniviers, in a place of calm and serenity, Zinal is a kind of ” ultimate destination “. In those magical places where you can not go any further, there is a paradoxical feeling that this is where everything begins ; a little like landing in another world. At the foot of the highest mountains of the Alps, a small village has retained the power that propels toward the heights, to make us look up in admiration. When one enters, there can be no doubt, this is the white heaven of Zinal.
Those who believe that after a week in Zinal we return to earth more tired than when we arrived are wrong. It is true rest and peace of mind that visitors find here ! When you have lived these moments, breathing in the fresh air, you know that you no longer can do without it, and that this brief pause has become required annual parenthesis.
