Delle tradizioni ben vive
Living traditions Houses and barns darkened by centuries of sun, glacier wine stored in high mountain cellars, cow-fighting in the mountain pastures, the fifes and drums... traditions here are still very much alive. Sierre and the Val d’Anniviers are firmly rooted in their architectural and cultural heritage: the heritage of the Anniviards, a semi-nomadic people until the middle of the 20th century. They had several homes and «moved» between the valley and the mountain pastures according to the seasons and the work which needed doing. The «inalpes» and «désalpes», the ascents and descents to and from the mountain pastures, are still occasions for processions and colourful celebrations today. In the high mountain pastures, the Hérens breed of cows fight for the title of «queen», and these duels are enjoyed by a very wide audience.The old villages, Grimentz, St-Jean andVercorin, to name but a few, are the soul of today’s resorts.The traditions and customs of ancient Anniviards have their place in museums: the «Maison du Remuage» in Sierre and the Patois Museum in Vissoie, whereas in St-Luc, the rye, barley and wheat mills and the walnut press still function today, just as they did in times gone by.

Le case e i granai anneriti da secoli di sole, il vino dei ghiacciai lassù nelle cantine d’alta quota, i combattimenti delle regine all’alpe, i pifferi e i tamburi... Qui, le tradizioni sono ancora ben vive. Sierre e la val d’Anniviers sono radicate in un patrimonio architettonico e culturale forte: quello degli anniviardi, semi-nomadi fino alla metà del 20o secolo. In possesso di svariate abitazioni, si spostavano tra la pianura e gli alpeggi al ritmo dei lavori e delle stagioni. I giorni di salita e di discesa dall’alpe sono tuttora occasione di cortei e feste piene di brio. All’alpe, le mucche della razza
d’Hérens combattono per imporsi da regine e le loro lotte sono molto apprezzate da un folto pubblico. I vecchi villaggi, come per esempio Grimentz, St-Jean e Vercorin, sono l’anima delle stazioni attuali. Gli usi e i costumi degli antichi anniviardi hanno i loro musei: la Casa della transumanza a Sierre, il Museo dei dialettanti a Vissoie, mentre a St-Luc, i mulini per la segale e il frumento, il torchio per le noci e la macina per l’orzo funzionano come in passato.

Clima, natura, convivialità: la regione di Sierre-Anniviers propone un cocktail soleggiato, propizio al rigeneramento. Il clima secco della regione di Sierre è rinomato per i suoi effetti benefici e salutari. Il suo sole ha la fama di essere il più generoso di tutta la Svizzera. La natura è preservata e s’offre in mille modi a seconda dell’altitudine e delle stagioni. L’estate, nel cuore del Vallese, si modula al ritmo del verde e dell’acqua tra i vigneti, le pinete, i pini cembri, gli abeti e i larici, i tappeti verdi e fioriti degli alpeggi, i laghi di pianura e di montagna, i canaletti tagliati nella roccia dagli Antichi, i torrenti, le cascate... D’inverno,
l’acqua diventa neve, tutto è bianco e blu, d’un blu puro, come possono esserlo i cieli alpini con il sole. E con l’avanzare dell’autunno, quando la natura diventa tutta dorata, sembra proprio di essere in piena cura di luminoterapia. In ogni stagione basta immergersi in questo bagno di natura preservata. Arrampicata, trekking e escursioni
Climbing, treks and hiking Sierre-Anniviers, a paradise for climbing and mountaineering, also offers hundreds of kilometres of walking paths at lower altitudes. Resorts and hamlets bordering glaciers, the choice is as rich as it is diverse. Take a short stroll or a longer excursion - to one of the 8 Anniviers cabins, for example. You can choose to be accompanied by a mountain guide who’ll tell you all about the fauna and flora, the secrets of plants and local traditions. It’s also possible to do a tour of the Val d’Anniviers, a week-long trek for serious walkers.Your bags will be transported for you from one stop to the next. The high altitude routes attract many mountaineers and climbers here in the land of the five 4,000 m peaks (the Weisshorn 4,505 m, Zinalrothorn 4,221 m, Obergabelhorn 4,063 m, Matterhorn 4,477 m and the Dent Blanche 4,358 m).These very demanding routes should in principle be undertaken under the guidance of a guide. However, the ascent of the 4,153 m Bishorn is a relatively accessible must, hence its nickname «the ladies’ 4,000».

Regno dell’arrampicata e dell’alpinismo, la destinazione Sierre-Anniviers offre ugualmente centinaia di chilometri di sentieri pedestri in mezza montagna. Stazioni sciistiche e paesini sul limitare dei ghiacciai, l’offerta è ricca e varia. Si può scegliere tra brevi passeggiate o percorsi più lunghi, per esempio a destinazione di uno degli 8 rifugi anniviardi. Si possono effettuare delle escursioni accompagnate da una guida di montagna che vi svelerà la fauna e la flora, i segreti delle piante e le tradizioni locali. E’ possibile pure intraprendere il giro della Val d’Anniviers, un trekking di una settimana per buoni cam-
minatori, con trasporto dei bagagli da una tappa all’altra. Le escursioni in alta montagna attirano molti alpinisti e scalatori nel paese dei cinque 4000 (Weisshorn 4505 m, Zinalrothorn 4221 m, Obergabelhorn 4063 m, Cervino 4477 m e Dent Blanche 4358 m). Si tratta di escursioni esigenti da effettuare con una guida. L’ascensione del Bishorn a quota 4153 m, è tuttavia una meta relativemente accessibile, soprannominata appunto il «4000 delle signore».
L’estate in tutti i suoi stati
Summer in all its moods Summer in the Sierre-Anniviers region is about cooling down in Lake Géronde, practising your swing at the Brèche Golf Course, or going for a mountain bike ride on 230 km of marked paths weaving through vineyards, villages, Alpine pastures and forests... whether lazing around or seeking adventure in the mountains, the possibilities are endless. The Brèche Golf Course, an 18 hole course just 10 minutes out of town, stretches over 20 hectares between the Rhône river, lakes and a canal inhabited by beavers. A lake and nature-relaxation area are to be found very close by. You can also go for a dip in Lake Géronde, nestled in a setting of wines and surrounding countryside. Its beachgarden, giant water slide and pedalos invite you to take a break in stunning surroundings. As for adventure, those in search of an adrenaline rush have the choice of rafting down the Rhône,a trip to the Adventure Forest in Vercorin, fun and extreme sports from the «Spider Bridge» in Niouc, the amusement park «Happyland New» in Granges, climbing, paragliding flights, horseriding, the Via Ferrata in Moiry-Grimentz, canyoning etc.

L’estate nella regione Sierre-Anniviers significa: rinfrescarsi al lago di Géronde, fare uno swing al Golf di Brèche, o passeggiare in MTB sui 230 km di percorsi segnalati attraverso i vigneti, i villaggi, gli alpeggi e le foreste... Il dolce far niente o l’avventura in piena natura: le possibilità sono tante. Il Golf di Brèche, un percorso di 18 buche, situato a 10 minuti dalla città, si estende su ben 20 ettari tra il Rodano e molti stagni e canali popolati da castori. A due passi: un lago e un’area natura-relax. La possibilità di tuffarsi nel lago di Géronde, incastonato in uno scrigno di vigne e di natura. La sua
spiaggia-giardino, lo scivolo gigante e i pedalò sono un invito a fare una pausa in una cornice privilegiata. Per chi ama l’avventura e le sensazioni forti c’è molta scelta: il rafting sul Rodano, la Forêt de l’Aventure a Vercorin, gli sport fun e estremi a Niouc dal ponte dell’Araignée, il parco attrazioni «Happyland New» a Granges, la scalata, i voli in parapendio, il turismo equestre, la via ferrata a Moiry-Grimentz, il canyoning, ecc.
Nel regno della neve e della discesa
In the kingdom of snow and downhill sports The Val d’Anniviers is a paradise for downhill sports. The four ski areas, Grimentz, St-Luc/Chandolin, Vercorin and Zinal have a total of 220 km of pistes and 45 ski lifts. Thanks to their high altitude, between 1,340 and 3,026 m, the Anniviers pistes enjoy some of the best snow conditions in the Alps. Just one ski pass gives you access to all four ski areas.Winter attractions also include three snowparks, a freeride area, off-piste ski routes, an Avalanche Training Centre and sledging and snowtubing runs. Walking and snowshoe paths and cross country skiing mean you can plunge into the area’s unspoilt countryside and great white silence. Other winter activities include ice skating, curling, paragliding flights, ice climbing, night sledging and torchlit ski descents.Winter is also a time to explore with a guide the depths of the Zinal Glacier, a fascinating universe of snow and ice.

La Val d’Anniviers è un paradiso degli sport di discesa. I suoi 4 comprensori sciistici, Grimentz, St-Luc/Chandolin, Vercorin e Zinal totalizzano 220 km di piste e 45 impianti di risalita. Le piste anniviarde, grazie alla loro altitudine elevata, tra i 1340 e i 3026 m, beneficiano di condizioni d’innevamento tra le migliori delle Alpi. Un solo ed unico abbonnamento dà accesso a quattro comprensori sciistici. L’offerta invernale include anche tre snowparks, una zona freeride, degli itinerari di sci fuori pista, un Avalanche Training Center, le piste da slitta e di snow-tubing. Le escursioni a piedi o in racchette, e lo sci di fondo
consentono di immergersi nella purezza e nel gran silenzio immacolati. Altre possibilità invernali: il pattinaggio, il curling, i voli in parapendio, l’arrampicata su ghiaccio, le discese notturne in slitta o a sci. L’inverno rappresenta inoltre l’occasione di scoprire con una guida le cavità del ghiacciaio di Zinal, un affascinante universo di ghiaccio.
Sierre, conviviale e meridionale
Sierre, a friendly, Mediterranean-style city Sierre, «The Sunshine City», also has the nickname «Pleasant Sierre». Nestled between vineyards and hills, with its towers and medieval castles, Sierre looks just like a Mediterranean city. The city’s friendly, urban feel and its exceptional climate have much to do with this. Sierre, a city of 14,000 inhabitants, is made up of picturesque old Anniviard quarters, although it is actually a very young city: its colleges accommodate over a thousand students and researchers, specialising in the fields of tourism and high-tech computer science in particular. In the town centre, the Château de la Cour (17th century) and its contemporary gardens today house the town council. This building was once a hotel,with important guests such as R. M. Rilke, whom Sierre celebrates in a festival every three years. Among the natural jewels of the Sierre region are Lake Géronde and its beach, and the Finges Park.Finges,well known internationally for its abundance of fauna and flora, also contains Switzerland’s largest pine forest.

Sierre, «la Città del Sole», è soprannominata anche «Sierre la piacevole». Situata tra vigneti e colline, torri e castelli medioevali, assomiglia proprio a una città meridionale. La convivialità urbana di Sierre ed il suo clima eccezionale ne sono i fattori determinanti. Sierre, 14 000 abitanti, è costituita da vecchi quartieri anniviardi pittoreschi ed è al contempo una città molto giovane: le Alte Scuole accolgono più di mille studenti e ricercatori, particolarmente nei campi del turismo e delle alte tecnologie infomatiche. In centro città, il Castello della Cour (17o secolo) ed i suoi giardini contemporanei
sono oggi la sede dell’amministrazione comunale. Quest’edificio, un tempo adibito a hotel, accolse ospiti illustri come R. M. Rilke, celebrato da Sierre in occasione di un festival triennale. La regione di Sierre annovera tra le sue gemme naturali il lago di Géronde con la sua spiaggia e il parco di Finges. Rinomato internazionalmente per la ricchezza della sua fauna e della sua flora, Finges ospita la più grande pineta della Svizzera.
Gastronomia e vini
Gastronomy and wine Sierre is known both for its gastronomy and as a wine-growing capital, it is famous for its wine, both white and red, and also for its liqueurs.You can also try typical local products such as unpasteurized milk raclette, cheese from the mountain pastures, dried meat, cured ham and sausages, as well as fruit and vegetables from the nearby valley-garden. In the Sierre-Salgesch region and its typical hillside villages, the local wine growers are happy to open their cellars to passing visitors.The «Sunshine City» is a reference as far as wine is concerned. It also houses the headquarters of Vinofed (Fédération Mondiale des Grands Concours Internationaux deVins et Spiritueux) and the Mondial du Pinot Noir, one of the top international wine competitions, is held here every September.The Château deVilla, a Mecca for wine tasting, harbours the very best thatValais produces, with over 500 different vintages on offer. This beautiful patrician residence, which dates from the 16th and 17th centuries, is also considered to be theValais temple to raclette. One half of the Valaisan Museum of Wine andWinegrowing is to be found here too, while the magnificent Maison Zumhofen in Salgesch houses the other part of the museum.

Tappa gastronomica, capitale viticola, Sierre è rinomata per i suoi vini, bianchi, rossi e liquorosi. Da degustare dei prodotti locali di carattere: la raclette al latte crudo, i formaggi d’alpeggio, le carni secche, il prosciutto crudo e le salsicce, la frutta e la verdura provenienti dai grandi orti della pianura in prossimità. Nella regione di Sierre-Salgesch e nei villaggi tipici delle colline, i vignaioli aprono con piacere le loro cantine agli ospiti di passaggio. La «Città del Sole» è una referenza di spicco in materia di vini. Ospita la sede della Federazione Mondiale dei Grandi Concorsi
Internazionali di Vini e Alcolici, e ogni anno in settembre il Mondiale del Pinot Nero. Il Castello di Villà, sede rinomata di degustazioni, custodisce il meglio della produzione vallesana che si declina in ben 500 vini diversi. Questa bella dimora patrizia del 16o e 17o secolo è conosciuta come il tempio vallesano della raclette. Una parte del Museo vallesano della vigna e del vino è ubicata nello stesso sito, mentre la magnifica Maison Zumhofen a Salgesch ospita l’altro polo del museo.

From one festival to the next In the Sierre-Anniviers region, sporting and cultural events follow one after the other throughout the year. We know how to party here! Every year in early January, the Three Wise Men on their sledges make a stop in Chandolin.The magic of Epiphany is part of the great traditions in this region. Summer is marked by the «inalpes» and «désalpes», processions of cows heading to and from the mountain pastures, and also cow-fighting. In August, two of the great Alpine challenges, among the toughest and most famous in the world, are held here: the SierreZinal running race and the Mountain Bike Grand Raid Verbier-Grimentz. Finally in early September, it’s time for Vinea, the largest annual meeting for wine lovers in Switzerland. Just a few of the other big events which mark the year: the Fééries de Noël in Grimentz, and in summer, theVercorin Jazz Festival, theVissoie craft market, the culinary market in Chandolin,the «Sismics» cartoon festival and the Marche des Cépages (Vineyard walk).

Nella regione di Sierre-Anniviers, le manifestazioni sportive e culturali si susseguono al ritmo delle stagioni. Qui, si ama far festa. Ogni anno ai primi di gennaio, i Re Magi sulla loro slitta fanno tappa a Chandolin. La Festa dei Re e la sua magia fanno parte delle grandi tradizioni della nostra regione. L’estate è segnata dalla salita delle mucche all’alpe, dal loro ritorno in paese e dai combattimenti delle regine. In agosto, due grandi sfide alpine, tra le più dure e le più celebri del mondo, sono in programma: la corsa podistica Sierre-Zinal e il Grand Raid MTB Verbier-Grimentz. All’inizio di settembre
infine, Sierre vive al ritmo di Vinea, l’appuntamento annuale più importante degli enofoli svizzeri. Tra le altre grandi manifestazioni popolari che ritmano l’anno, citiamo le Féeries di Natale a Grimentz e, d’estate, il Festival Jazz di Vercorin, il mercato artigianale di Vissoie, il mercato culinario di Chandolin, il Festival del fumetto di Sierre e la Camminata dei Vitigni.
