Dear Supporter I first became compelled to start supporting Sightsavers many years ago, when I discovered that most people who are blind in the developing world could have their sight restored through highly costeffective treatments.

It’s incredible to think that with just £17 Sightsavers could help pay for an adult cataract operation – knowing that the treatment will improve their lives so dramatically makes it all the more special.

But the real tragedy is that trachoma is such an easy disease to prevent and can be treated quickly and effectively in its early stages with antibiotics.

Our work with Glaucoma Code: 11266 Glaucoma is more common in older people but children can be born with the condition.

Sight loss can take away a person’s means of survival or prevent them from getting an education.

A tumbling ‘E’ chart is used to test visual accuracy. It’s used with children or illiterate adults who can’t recognise letters.

Rehabilitation involves working closely with blind and visually impaired people, helping them to regain their confidence through orientation and mobility training, teaching them how to recognise objects and even help setting up a small business.

The letter ‘E’ is turned in different orientations so the patient can simply indicate which direction each ‘E’ is facing.
