Dear Supporter I first became compelled to start supporting Sightsavers many years ago, when I discovered that most people who are blind in the developing world could have their sight restored through highly costeffective treatments. It’s incredible to think that with just £17 Sightsavers could help pay for an adult cataract operation – knowing that the treatment will improve their lives so dramatically makes it all the more special. It’s very hard to think of a better way of spending £17 than giving the gift of sight to a person.

Tumbling ‘E’ chart Code: 13751

Sight loss can take away a person’s means of survival or prevent them from getting an education.
A tumbling ‘E’ chart is used to test visual accuracy. It’s used with children or illiterate adults who can’t recognise letters.
Rehabilitation involves working closely with blind and visually impaired people, helping them to regain their confidence through orientation and mobility training, teaching them how to recognise objects and even help setting up a small business.
The letter ‘E’ is turned in different orientations so the patient can simply indicate which direction each ‘E’ is facing.
• Your gift will help support our rehabilitation work and could literally turn someone’s life around. “I am very happy at school” Nine-year-old Devilal, India
• Your gift can provide eye charts which are essential for assessing vision. The day after her cataract operation, 68-year-old Muanamadane from Mozambique has her vision tested using a tumbling ‘E’ chart to assess how well her sight has been restored.
