EMERGING TECH STARTUP PITCH

The AIBC Summit is all about the future of emerging tech, which is why we’re committed to helping this innovation industry grow by offering support to startups and entrepreneurs boasting bright ideas. For the past two years more than 200 startups have benefited from this platform. Over 100 companies based in this dynamic and emerging sector will be selected to showcase their products and initiatives throughout the event. Each startup selected will have a 1x1 booth at the AIBC Summit expo. The selected 100 will also have the opportunity to be surrounded by top investors and mentors, being invited to lavish networking dinners as well as benefiting from online exposure. The Startup Pitch is only open to startup companies, meaning recently launched startups that aren’t supported by a public company. In the final leg of the competition an independent panel of judges will select 10 of the best companies and entrepreneurs to make it through to the live Pitch - which is held during the summit conference. Taking part guarantees valuable insights and critical feedback from the judge, although just one finalist will be in for the opportunity to receive a potential equity investment prize - giving one lucky startup a head start when it comes to expanding their business plans. In this reflective thought leadership piece, SingularityDAO’s Ben Goertzel draws inspiration from the science fiction titan and visionary Philip K. Dick to discuss how we can build a Metaverse that lasts.

As my long-time friend David Hanson and I work together through the process of creating a new AI-fueled metaverse — the Sophiaverse, aka Sophia’s Age of Singularities (SAOS) — I find myself musing about the role of simulated realities in the thinking of Philip K. Dick, the great surrealist SF writer whom both David and I have admired since long before we met.

Sophiaverse, a joint venture between Hanson Robotics and my AI/blockchain network SingularityNET, is thematically centred on avatar-NPC versions of Sophia, Earth’s first robot citizen and David’s best-known creation so far. However, David’s PKD robot is the only one of his robots with whom I’ve had a profound I-Thou experience, feeling in the moment like the robot was fully conscious and I was mind-melded with it. PKD is powerful stuff.
