The Balkan states were amongst the strongest countries to recover after COVID with a strong growth rebound in 2021. The WHO recently launched a digital health network in the region to accelerate the adoption of digital technologies in health. Independent of this, most Balkan countries have been making strides towards digitally transforming healthcare, including innovative and world-class information systems and open-source telemedicine platforms.

It makes sense then, that we also set up our Med-Tech Hub in the region where we strive to continue fostering innovation and enable all stakeholders from investors to start-ups to connect. We chose Belgrade as our home base for this new undertaking.

We believe strongly that the Balkan states will be able to replicate the success that their neighbors the Baltics have had in recent decades. The diversity of these countries including their own language, culture and legislation is not a hindrance but rather can be the centre of innovation. Each country can learn from the other’s challenges and so together they can push each other to become better.

By being present we hope to experience the rapid shift these countries are experiencing in digitalization. We hope that our events can act as a springboard for companies interested in helping solve the healthcare problem in the Balkans but also enable companies arising from the region to export their ideas and innovations to the rest of Europe. It’s always good when the major stakeholders in these countries understand the opportunities that lie ahead and that they can be of incredible benefit not only to the patient, which should always remain the number one priority but also to the economy which will accelerate the process.

Furthermore, we don’t think it’s a one-way streak. Just as much as the Balkans can learn from each other and the rest of the visitors, we can learn from them too. We’ve seen this happen when we went to Dubai and Toronto and there’s no reason why this shouldn’t be the same. As always, it’s important to have close cooperation between government, academia and healthcare innovators. This doesn’t stop here though. Being open with other countries, and sharing their practices will enable the global shift to better healthcare, something that we are trying to achieve by offering a stage to start-ups and established companies alike on a world platform. Med-Tech World has been steadily growing over the past year and we intend to keep doing so. This will be our last roadshow stop before our flagship conference in Malta which we expect to be bigger than last year but keeping the same quality of content, speakers and networking opportunities.

Мы видели, как это происходило, когда мы ездили в Дубай и Торонто, и нет никаких причин, почему это не должно быть таким же. Как всегда, важно иметь тесное сотрудничество между правительством, академическими кругами и новаторами в области здравоохранения. Однако это не останавливается на достигнутом. Открытость с другими странами и обмен их опытом позволит глобально перейти к лучшему здравоохранению, чего мы пытаемся достичь, предлагая стартапам и уже существующим компаниям возможность участвовать в мировой платформе. Med-Tech World неуклонно растет в течение последнего года, и мы намерены продолжать это делать.
