HOMELESSNESS
Our City continues to make strides in helping those affected by homelessness in our community. Earlier this week, your City Council joined local dignitaries, volunteers, community members and the team from Bridge to Home to mark the completion of the new permanent shelter facility on Drayton Street. Thanks to the support of the City Council who donated funds and the land the shelter now sits on, this new facility will soon provide interim housing for 60 individuals. This facility also marks the first family shelter in the City, offering eight separate apartment-style units. In Newhall, work is well underway on the Family Promise Resource Center and Interim Housing Units. Santa Clarita continues to be a model for how cities should address the growing homeless crisis by creating critical infrastructure.
BE A HEADS UP! RESIDENT
With summer right around the corner and school just about done, there will be a lot more people out and about on City streets; it’s time for a serious chat about road safety. Recently, we have seen a troubling increase in avoidable car accidents on City streets, especially those that involve pedestrians. While the overall number of accidents has mostly stayed the same over the past few years, there was a notable rise in pedestrian-related incidents in 2023 compared to 2022. Most of these crashes occurred at intersections, primarily because of inattentive drivers (72 percent) or pedestrians not obeying traffic rules and crossing when they shouldn’t have (28 percent). Now’s the moment for all of us – drivers, walkers and cyclists – to be Heads Up! residents. Drivers, ditch the distractions like your phone when you’re behind the wheel – that text message can wait. For pedestrians, pay attention and make eye contact with drivers before you step off the curb. To learn more about traffic safety and being a Heads Up! resident, please visit SantaClarita.gov/HeadsUp. Let’s make our streets safer for everyone.
MORE IMPORTANT THAN EVER.
More than the people. More than the setting. Even more than the spirit of place. It’s all of these elements that make our communities so compelling. Our homes are designed for engaging life to the fullest, blending nature and neighbors together for a happier, healthier life. This is your invitation to explore what makes life in a Williams’ community unlike anywhere else. Because our way of doing things is remarkably unexpected.
It’s time to raise your expectations. williamshomes.com
Raise Your Expectations with Williams Homes
BY ALICIA DOYLEWilliams Homes is a family-owned and operated land development and homebuilding company native to Santa Clarita that has designed and built many communities here since its founding in 1996.
“Our founders, Lance and Sadie Williams, and much of our team of almost 200 employees, call Santa Clarita home,” says Dan Faina, Chief Marketing Officer.
From the initial concept through completion of a new community, “the whole Williams family is intricately involved to ensure we are building communities that will enrich the lives of the residents and stand the test of time,” he says. “We love the many cities we build in and take great pride in our homes being ‘Built by our family for yours.’”
One of the many special aspects about Williams Homes is that it’s the only long-standing, family-owned homebuilder delivering new homes to families in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“Our team is heavily involved in the community as well as in all the other cities we build in,” Faina says. “There are very few large family-owned homebuilders in the country and we are very proud to have grown our company here in Santa Clarita.”
In addition to Santa Clarita, Williams Homes serves Southern California from Ventura County to Palm Springs; Central California including Santa Barbara and San Luis Obispo counties; the Sacramento area; all
over Montana; Boise, Idaho; and Austin, Texas.
Services that cannot be found elsewhere include uniquely designed homes and communities specific to each location.
For instance, at Williams Ranch in Hasley Canyon, “we are offering many fantastic amenities that cannot be found anywhere else in Santa Clarita like RV and toy garages, Accessory Dwelling Units, many single story floor-plan options, huge lots, and unbeatable views of the entire Santa Clarita Valley,” Faina explains.
The most popular local offerings are located at Williams Ranch in Hasley Canyon, and Finch Ranch located 15 minutes from the Santa Clarita Valley in Piru. Additionally, “we have become popular for our wide open spaces, huge RV and toy garages, and larger lots than any other new development in Santa Clarita.”
Williams Homes is also dedicated to giving back to the community. In current endeavors, the company is building a brand new facility for Family Promise of SCV, which will serve to support families in this valley experiencing homelessness.
“Lance Williams himself has worked for nearly 10 years alongside Family Promise, the City and the LA County Supervisors office to bring this facility to life,” Faina emphasizes, adding that the entire Williams family has given “very generously” to fund this build as well.
In other philanthropic efforts, Williams Homes gives “time and treasure to many local charities, including
Bridge to Home, Triumph, Carousel Ranch and many others,” says Faina, who serves on the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital Foundation Board of Directors, as well as on the board of the Santa Clarita Valley Economic Development Corporation “to insure we are investing in our economy and most treasured healthcare organization.”
As far as accolades are concerned, Williams Homes has been recognized in the top 100 homebuilders in the nation; celebrated as one of the top 10 development companies in L.A. County; and has been named for multiple years as Builder of the Year by the Building Industry Association of Southern California.
Business philosophies that have propelled Williams Homes into success include “a people first approach” — from employees to homebuyers.
The community, too, has been a big part of Williams Home’s success.
“All of the city staff, city councilmembers, L.A. County Supervisor Kathryn Barger — and thousands of supportive real estate professionals and local trade partners — have been crucial to Williams Homes’ growth and success in Santa Clarita and beyond,” Faina says. “We would not be where we are today without the incredible business environment fostered here and without the city being such a fantastic place to call home.”
Faina invites everyone to tour “our crown jewel of a community” in the Santa Clarita Valley at Williams Ranch in Hasley Canyon.
“You will not find larger lots, better views and unique amenities like RV garages, ADUs, vineyards, citrus orchards and parks anywhere else in the Santa Clarita Valley,” he emphasizes. “Whether you are looking for a new home or may tell a friend, we would greatly appreciate the continued support from our great community in spreading the word but you have to see it to believe it as Williams Ranch is truly unlike anything this valley has ever seen.”
Above all, “we hope to continue to grow and offer attractively priced, energy efficient new homes in well planned communities throughout the Western United States where people value a great Western outdoor lifestyle in highly engaged communities.”

BUILDING SCV COMMUNITY PRIDE
Pleasantville Industries Helps Those with Development Disabilities Find Jobs
BY ALICIA DOYLEPleasantview Industries is an agency that helps individuals with developmental disabilities find and keep amazing jobs — and helps local businesses find and keep amazing employees.
“The bigger picture is helping individuals with disabilities in this valley who want to work connect with the businesses in this valley who need employees,” emphasizes Ricki Macken Chilvers, executive director.
Pleasantview has been providing services to this community since 1969, making it one of the oldest nonprofits, businesses and service providers in the Santa Clarita Valley.
“We have a great reputation among the businesses in Santa Clarita who have worked with us,” Macken Chilvers says. “But even more importantly, the experiences of the businesses who have worked with our clients have been positive.”
For instance, Pleasantview Industries has clients who have been employed with local businesses very long term — one recently celebrated 20 years, another celebrated his 10-year anniversary, and many have been employed for five years with the same employer.
Craig McCrary, president and COO of Neotech Products LLC, noted that Neotech has worked with Pleastanview clients for more than 15 years.
“We’ve even hired some of them directly to work for the company,” McCrary says, adding that the services they provide in the Santa Clarita Valley “are a true benefit to the employers and their employees.”
In January of 2020, Neotech hired a Pleasantview client who continues to be an employee, says Netta Garcia, production manager at Neotech who works with the clients directly.
“She is one of the best employees we have and that is a testament to who Ricki is and the importance of her job to the clients we have had in house,” Garcia says. “We appreciate the close relationship we have had with Ricki and the team over at Plesantview.”
Greg Waugh, CEO and president of Pacific Lock Company with 40 employees, says that having a workforce comprised of 15% workers with disabilities “makes us more competitive and profitable.”
See PLEASANTVILLE, PE6
Amanda Stegall, who has worked at Pacific Lock for five years, says “I enjoy working and (enjoy) the company, too. Hopefully it goes smooth as planned and I can work here for a long time.”WHO OWNS YOUR SEWER SYSTEM
1
Your Pipes. The pipe that connects the draining plumbing in your home or business to the sewer in the street is known as a sewer lateral. The owner of the home or business is responsible for maintaining the drainage plumbing and the sewer lateral.
If there is an overflow from your plumbing (e.g., toilet, sink or shower drain), stop using your water immediately and contact a licensed plumber (or the property owner). You may also need to contact a specialized clean-up service to help remove spilled water and disinfect property that came in contact with spilled water.
2
Local Sewers. Local sewers transport sewage from neighborhood homes and businesses to larger, regional sewers. Your city (or other public agency) maintains these local sewers.
If you suspect a problem with a local sewer, please contact one of the following who are available 24/7:
• City of Los Angeles: 213-485-7575 (LA Sanitation)
Other cities in LA County: see www.lacsd.org/overflow for contact information
Unincorporated LA County: 626-458-4357 (LA County Public Works)
3
Regional Sewers. The regional sewer system transports sewage from local sewers to a treatment plant.
In the City of Los Angeles, these regional sewers are maintained by LA Sanitation. Otherwise, the regional sewers are maintained by the Los Angeles County Sanitation Districts who can be reached at 562-437-6520 (24/7).
When you call about a sewer overflow, please provide the following information:
• The address where the overflow is occurring or nearest cross streets.
• The time the overflow started or the time was first noticed.
Whether the overflow is ongoing or, if known, when the overflow stopped.
• Estimated area of the overflow (e.g., 10 feet long by 3 feet wide).
“I can count on their dependability, attention to detail, and dedication to the job in ways that is sometimes challenging to find in my non-disabled workforce,” Waugh says. “All of this means I can manufacture my products on-time and on-budget.”
These employees also reap great rewards beyond the monetary level.
Krystiaan Dekok, who has worked at his current employer, Pacific Lock, for the past two years, says “I feel perfectly great when I work. It’s important to me.”
Amanda Stegall, who has worked at Pacific Lock for five years, says “I enjoy working and (enjoy) the company, too. Hopefully it goes smooth as planned and I can work here for a long time.”
Pleasantview Industries was created in the Santa Clarita Valley by people who resided in this valley more than five decades ago, and “we have continued to keep our focus in our hometown,” Macken Chilvers says.
Community residents who have developmental disabilities also offer a lot to the employers they work for, she emphasizes.
“Research shows that employers who hire individuals with developmental disabilities experience the following: increased retention, increased morale, increased profits and revenue all from hiring from the largest untapped employee resource we have—individuals with developmental disabilities,” Macken Chilvers says.
One of the most popular offerings at Pleasantview Industries is the paid internship program.
“We will provide the employee and pay the wages for up to one year with the hope that the business sees the value in hiring the intern at the end of the internship,” Macken Chilvers explains.
“We also offer businesses the option for our clients to apply directly to open positions, interview and potentially hire our clients,” she continues. “We support the client through on-boarding and employment to ensure that the client continues to perform to the expectations of the employer. We are the employer’s partner throughout.”
Krystiaan Dekok, who has worked at his current employer, Pacific Lock, for the past two years, says “I feel perfectly great when I work. It’s important to me.”
The ultimate goal of Pleasantview Industries is to help local businesses see the benefit of hiring individuals with disabilities.
“To support that goal, our secondary focus is to erase the myths that business owners or HR managers may have about working with people with disabilities,” Macken Chilvers says. “They express being unsure about how to work with or engage an individual with disabilities, when in reality, they should treat them the same as other employees.”
Additionally, they might believe that individuals with developmental disabilities will need significant or costly accommodations, when often simply having a job coach—free to the employer—is the only accommodation they may need and most accommodations are less than $500 on average nationally.
“Businesses may believe there is increased risk of lawsuit or injury with individuals with disabilities, which is not true,” Macken Chilvers says.
It is important to note that there are a number of agencies in the Santa Clarita Valley that do similar work, she adds.
“We want to see every business in the Santa Clarita Valley commit to actively bringing individuals with developmental disabilities into their workforce, even if Pleasantview is not the agency they connect with,” Macken Chilvers says. “There are many individuals who could be their next amazing employee if businesses would give them that opportunity.”
Pleasantview Industries is located at 27921 Urbandale Avenue in Saugus. For more information, call 661-296-6700; or visit https:// www.pleasantviewindustries.org/ pleasantview-for-business.
Pleasantview Industries, established in 1969, is one of the oldest businesses, non profits and vocational service providers in Santa Clarita Valley. Having supported businesses in this valley for over 50 years, we are skilled at matching excellent candidates with available positions in the community. We are dedicated to helping businesses maximize their bottom line by connecting them to the largest untapped candidate resource, workers with disabilities.

Santa Clarita is Proud of Our Education System
Team Garcia is Always Engaged in the Community
Every day, I meet someone in the Santa Clarita Valley who reminds me why I’m so proud to represent our communities. And every day, it’s the men and women of CA-27 who remind me of the goodness of the American people. That’s why I’d like to take the opportunity in these pages not to tout my own experience, accomplishments, or goals, but to say thank you.
Thank you, Team Garcia, for being the most enthusiastic, sincere, and hard-working team of volunteers in the country. This isn’t a team that only engages in election years or as the ballot boxes open — this is a team that works year-round to better our communities.
Team Garcia is grounded by the same four principles that guide me: Constitution, Capitalism, Competition, and Charity. This team has organized and executed 30 charitable events over the past three years, known as our Saturdays of Service, to give back to our law enforcement, kids, small businesses, and more. They’ve donated enough blood to save more than 250 lives, picked up countless bags of trash throughout our communities, and fed thousands of families in CA27.
Former Supreme Court Justice Louis Brandeis said the most important office in a Democracy isn’t the president, prime minister, or congressman. “The most important political office is that of the private citizen.” To say that I agree with this sentiment would be an understatement.
It’s your values, participation, and vision that drive us forward, and Team Garcia has done an extraordinary job as citizens. So, once again, thank you. Thank you for supporting me in my mission to stand up to career politicians, protect the American dream, and ensure our country doesn’t turn into what our home state has become.
I hope to see you out on the campaign trail, at one of Team Garcia’s Saturdays of Service, or around the neighborhood. And I look forward to continuing our all-important work to create a stronger, freer, and more secure America.
SCCS Celebrates its Forty-Second Graduating Class!
Since 1982 Santa Clarita Christian School (SCCS), a ministry of Santa Clarita Baptist Church, has discipled students with the gospel of Jesus Christ to prepare the next generation to impact the world for God. Being accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI) demonstrates the rigor and integrity of our K-12 academics. Recent CIF State Championships in Basketball (2018), Volleyball (2021), and Swimming (2023) testify to the ongoing pursuit of athletic excellence. Our primary objective, however, is “to partner with Christian parents of like faith to challenge students’ minds and train their hearts for God through a distinctively biblical education.” Thus, our motto is: Teaching Minds and Training Hearts for God!
Ultimately, the evidence for our effectiveness is seen in our students! With nearly one thousand graduates deployed to make a difference in the world for God, each has been prepared to…
Love God (Deuteronomy 6:5-7)
That which owns our affections controls our words and moves our hands! Knowing and loving God through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ is the critical foundation for education. A Christian’s love for God and the knowledge of God’s love for them prepares students to have both confidence and joy in a world that desperately needs help for today and hope for eternity.
Seek Truth (Matthew 6:33; John 14:6)
Those who seek Truth find everything! Students who not only love God, but remain in pursuit of Him through His Truth, have purpose. We aim for every student to have the skills necessary to be life-long learners of truth for God’s glory and the good of all. Those who know that Jesus Christ is the Truth, also understand that all in Him are found all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.
Discern Error (Hebrews 5:14)
Thinking critically is an absolute necessity for survival in this world of information overload! Now that ‘common sense’ is not very common, students must be prepared to collect, evaluate, and analyze information with great discernment in order to not be caught up in worldly philosophies and arguments.
Live Wisely (Colossians 1:9-11)
Our greatest joy is to see our students and graduates walk in the truth. Living a life in service to God and others is how Christians express their faith and gratitude. Wisdom is found in the Word of God. Wisdom is practiced by the Spirit of God. Those who live wisely bring glory to God… and that is why we exist!
We thank God for the opportunity to disciple and deploy graduates who continue to make a difference in the world for God. May He grant us the grace to continue this work until He returns!
Please join us in congratulating the graduating senior class of 2024!

Green Thumb: The Garden Experts
Known as the home of the garden experts, Green Thumb Nursery in Santa Clarita is a second-generation, family-owned nursery and garden center that offers quality, experience and expertise unmatched by big box stores.
Customers are the priority, “and giving the best customer service is our goal,” said Bryan Payne, General Manager.
Customers choose Green Thumb Nursery for the quality of plants at an affordable cost. For instance, they offer a wide variety of landscape plants, flowers, fruit trees and vegetables, including common and more unique plants that are compatible with the climate in Santa Clarita, such as evergreens, ferns, drought-tolerant varieties, bonsai trees, annuals and perennials.
Best sellers include roses, fruit trees, citrus, and flowers that go into your flower beds and hang from your patio cover, as well as cactus and succulents. Green Thumb Nursery also offers house plants, sod, pottery, soil amendments and fertilizers, both traditional and organic, as well as lady bugs and other beneficial insects.
Their wide selection of up-scale patio furniture includes bistro-style tables and chairs, designs made with wrought iron and wrought aluminum, adjustable chaise lounges, and tables that can be customized with a variety of materials, such as copper, aluminum, like-wood porcelain and like-tile porcelain.
They also carry items for the home, including candles, pillows, doormats, wreaths, silk plants, lanterns, placemats and decorative baskets. For outdoor décor, choices include fountains, birdbaths, wind chimes, decorative stakes and garden gnomes.
Green Thumb Nursery – which has been serving California since 1946 – opened its Green Thumb International Garden and Patio Center in Santa Clarita in 1970.
“Green Thumb Garden Center is an extension of the original owners’ desire to offer a premier garden center to the residents of the San Fernando Valley,” Payne explained.
Since the beginning, Green Thumb Nursery has taken pride in its consistent effort to better the environment through moral business practices by always making the environment a priority, and continuing to provide products that are safe and responsible. Their environmental commitment includes striving towards becoming 100% “green” and leaving only positive impacts on the community and the world; and maintaining a commitment to sustaining the environment by only selecting products that meet rigid eco-friendly criteria.
As far at the future is concerned, Green Thumb Nursery will continue incorporating technology and social media.
“However, even in today’s on-line world, this does not replicate the joy of walking into our stores and experiencing the peace and beauty that comes from nature concentrated in our outdoor and indoor spaces,” Payne emphasized.
Ultimately, “we hope to impact the world by providing products and services that bring people back to nature and into the garden where humans have been designed to labor from the beginning of time,” he added. “Gardening is therapeutic.”

Cinema Park tenants pride themselves in offering their customers unique products and unparalleled customer service. At Sofa Interiors, you can choose your custom design, fabric, and unique look as they produce your dream sofa in their very own factory. Jewelry World specializes in concierge jewelry repair and custom designs. If you can dream it, they can create it. Perfect Tux is a fashion forward men’s formalwear boutique offering a colorful assortment of trendy outfits in all sizes and styles from kids to seniors.
If you have heard of Red Light Therapy, Infrared Salt Cave and Cupping, then you need Illumi. Illumi’s philosophy is to enable their patients to pursue a lifestyle of wellness through these unique treatments. Should you have any issues with your skin, Emina Beauty with a medical approach to skincare and rejuvenation, has a solution for you. They specialize in lip enhancements, chemical peels, and plasma fibroblasts, all by using the latest technology.
Now that you look better, how about feeling better? It is time to give Massage with a Healing Touch a try. They believe in targeted structural treatments which is highly effective in relieving repetitive use injuries — sports, muscle trauma, and chronic pain to achieve greater range of motion and a Pain-Free Life.
I dare to say that one of the most unusual tenants is Candle Corner where you can create your own scented candle masterpiece as you celebrate your special event such as birthdays, bachelorette parties or even girls night out.
Whichever tenant you may wish to patronize, we are sure you will be delighted!
Small Businesses Play a Major Role in Supporting the Local Community
Conscientious consumers who want to help local entrepreneurs thrive may not need any extra incentive to support small businesses in their communities. However, that doesn’t mean it isn’t worth noting the tax benefits of buying local compared to buying online or in other towns or cities.
Small businesses pay sales taxes to the city and county where the business is located, which means a significant amount of the money spent at local businesses is ultimately going to the community at large.
In addition, local businesses tend to hire local residents, who pay taxes on their incomes. Those taxes also benefit the towns and cities where workers live and work.
This ripple effect of supporting local businesses is one reason why the Small Business Adminstration estimates that, for every $100 consumers spend at a small business, $48 remains in the community. (MC)

CBC Cleaning & Construction
CBC Cleaning & Construction has been proudly serving the SCV and Los Angeles County since 1978. CBC was founded by Gordon and Debbie Glasnow. It has been a pleasure serving SCV and giving back to our wonderful community throughout the years and after 40 years it was time to pass the reins over to a new management team to take CBC to its next stage and in 2021 Gene and Veronika Kucherov of Scope Environmental were the right team for the job.
We have incredible staff that have been with CBC for as long as 35 years!! Since Gordon and Debbie began spending more time away from the office things are being run the same way and sometimes even a bit better, but please don’t tell them, CBC Cleaning and Construction continues to provide the same great service to all its clients both existing and brand new.
The company has experienced significant growth in the past 2 years and will continue to work hard on completely satisfying each and every client in order to become the best cleaning and restoration company in the SCV. This merger made us better, and our client love that. We continue to provide the same excellent service, with the
same awesome office staff, talented technicians, and the same convenient office location! Nothing has changedexcept we are bigger and can respond faster to all your cleaning, and restoration needs. Okay, so we must admit that this also allows Gordon and Debbie to have more play time to enjoy their “golden years” while still working part time! Thank you SCV for 40 great years! Here’s to 40 more!
Sincerely,
Gene Kucherov,DirectorCinema Park

How Communities Benefit When Consumers Shop Local
Ideas about shopping are never set in stone, and the pandemic illustrated just how quickly consumer trends and opinions can change. Many individuals are now reevaluating how they spend their hard-earned money, particularly since inflation has affected just how far a dollar can be stretched. When consumers think about which stores to patronize, locally owned businesses may be the smartest option for a number of reasons — not the least of which is the way such enterprises benefit the communities they call home.
More Money Kept in the Community Shopping locally means that more money will stay in the community. According to recent research from Civic Economics, local eateries return nearly 79% of revenue to the community, compared to just over 30% for chain restaurants. Overall, for every $100 spent at a local business, around $73 remains in the community, verus roughly $43 when shopping at a
non-locally owned business.
Get a Personal Touch
Local business owners typically are inclined to go the extra mile for their customers and are personally invested in the services and products they are selling. As a result, shopping locally tends to be a personalized experience. Furthermore, a local business owner may be more amenable to ordering products for specific clientele. Such personalized service is typically not accessible when shopping big box stores or other shops where owners are off-site.
Lines are Short
Waiting in long lines for checkout or to pick up merchandise ordered online can drain consumersÕ energy and contribute to stress. Local businesses tend to have short lines and small crowds, which can lead to a more pleasant shopping experience.
Support Nonprofits
Local businesses often support good work in the community, such as
nonprofit groups. These can include schools and sports teams, among other groups. According to Dr. Sue Lynn Sasser, professor of economics at the University of Central Oklahoma, studies indicate nonprofits Òreceive 250% more support from small businesses than larger ones.Ó
Support other local businesses
Local business support other local businesses by buying and selling among each other. A local, independently owned restaurant may source its ingredients from local farms, which means visitors to such eateries are supporting multiple local businesses each time they dine out.

My wife made me come in to Advanced Audiology because she kept complaining the TV was too loud and she had to repeat herself all the time. They told me I had a loss in the range where my wife’s voice was and I would have problems in noisy situations. I still didn’t believe it but they said I could do a trial at home with the hearing aids. After just one week my wife was so happy and I couldn’t believe what I was missing. These hearing aids have changed my life and saved my marriage because I thought I’m too young to wear hearing aids.

Veloz Cardiovascular Center have the right skills, technology, and expertise to provide top-notch heart care. With faster diagnosis recognition and rapid cardiac intervention, the Henry Mayo team of experts can help prevent, treat or even reverse some types of damage to your heart.
The Corventis Coroflow Cardiovascular System: A Game-Changer in Heart Health
One of the many technologies available in Henry Mayo’s Roberta R. Veloz Cardiovascular Center is the Coroventis Coroflow Cardiovascular system.
90% of blood flow to the heart goes through small blood vessels instead of the major arteries. If there is a blockage in one of these vessels, it can cause significant health issues. The Coroflow Cardiovascular System focuses on these tiny blood vessels, known as the coronary microvasculature. When these vessels don’t function well, it can lead to angina (reduced blood flow to the heart), even without significant blockages in the larger arteries. Coronary Microvascular Dysfunction (CDM), a specific form of this issue, affects the heart’s blood vessels and is associated with symptoms like angina.
Approximately 50-65% of patients with angina and non-obstructive coronary artery disease may be suffering from CMD. This is a condition where the small blood vessels supplying oxygen and nutrients to the heart muscle are not working properly. 60% of those who have blockages in small arteries are women.
The Corventis system includes the Coroflow Pressure Wire, a cutting-edge tool designed to detect microvascular dysfunction blockages. The Pressure Wire provides a clear diagnosis and treatment plan for patients experiencing inadequate blood flow in small blood vessels, minimizing the need for additional tests and imaging.
While the Pressure Wire doesn’t remove blockages, it can detect blood flow issue which can be managed through medication and lifestyle changes.
“We are pleased to have such a cutting-edge device at Henry Mayo for our patients,” said Jennifer Whitcomb, Director of Cardiovascular Services at Henry Mayo. “Inadequate blood flow in small blood vessel can be difficult to detect and treat, and is especially common in women. Now there is an effective therapy available in our community.”

Child & Family Center’s Domestic Violence Program Provides Life Saving Services
Child & Family Center helps individuals and their children who are in abusive relationships by providing domestic violence services and operating Santa Clarita’s only emergency shelter. Services are free and include safety, shelter and support for survivors.
In the past ten months, the 24/7 hotline answered 3,647 crisis calls from those seeking help.
1800 group counseling sessions were provided where participants learn life skills and how to choose healthy relationships. Counselors help with emotional support, safety planning and access to resources such as clothing and housing. In addition, the program offers court approved education classes, parenting and domestic violence education.
140 survivors were aided with legal assistance by helping to obtain restraining orders and accompaniment to court proceedings.
The emergency shelter provided 382 nights of safety for individuals and families fleeing a dangerous situation last year alone.
But did you know that all across California, all domestic violence programs are receiving drastic funding cuts for these life-saving services. For many of the men, women and children, the Center is their only life line.
Funding comes from the Victim of Crimes Act (VOCA) on the federal level and through CalOES (California Of-
fice of Emergency Services) from the state.
Consequently, this cut will reduce funding for the Center’s D.V. program by 44.7% or $105,766 less than the current allocation.
VOCA supports thousands of victim services providers serving millions of victims annually throughout the country. It is facing a $700 million, or 40%, cut in federal fiscal year 2024.
When survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence reach out for help, it is often due to life-threatening violence. Survivors must be able to access services at these times—yet the VOCA cuts jeopardize victim services and put survivors in grave danger.
The Center needs your support to help maintain this life saving services.
The annual fundraiser Domestic Violence 5KPurple Walk will take place Saturday, October 12 at the Center’s main location on Centre Pointe Parkway. The annual event is widely supported by generous local businesses, service organizations and hundred of community members. Funds raised are critical to continue providing domestic violence services.
In addition, all donations to the program are greatly appreciated throughout the year.
For more information on the program, or to join the walk visit: www.childfamilycenter.org
